    I was asked if I could fix a leaking transfer case in a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD but it looks like this one is too far gone to be worth rebuilding.

    Everyone of those transfer cases wears that hole in it. It only leaks when your driving it. So most of the time the customer doesn't know all the oil leaked out. Theres a company that makes a kit for the oil pump that fixes the problem. I've done a lot of them.

    Had a question. have a 2002 gmc 1500HD. recently locked in and have a popping noise when it moves (i think it the chain itself slipping) put back in 2wd and no noise or symtoms. drives fine. no notice of holes in transfer case like so many have pointed out. has 211k on it and has been very well taken care of. any suggestions?

      Same issue with my 2004 with 188k. Exactly the same. Guessing something in the transfercase. Maybe a broken snap ring

    Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a junkyard one?

    • @bah53
      @bah53  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what my name is The cheapest used one that I was able to find within about 150 miles was $700. So it was cheaper than a rebuild but not by much.

    well bah; at this point it looks like you would probably be better off getting that used one for 700; or just putting one of the 2 yer uncle has in it and call it done.cause I dont think rebuilding it is worth it at this point cause that whole thing looks like its been torn to shit.

    u know that case can be welded

    • @stephendee7839
      @stephendee7839 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's magnesium. Cheaper to get a new case half, and cheaper still to not even bother taking it apart, just get a used one for $100-150.
