    Did it like you said but it doesn't work, it says "Circular dependency form image [...] from object [targetToBake]", and then "Baking map saved to internal image, save it externally or pack it".

    lost at 02:23. I selected the original mesh, and then the new one. I waited for it to bake. And blank :(((

    hey is there a way to do this but have it so that it unwarps in 3d space based on the UV of your model so that it can be ported into unreal etc?

    It's crazy how many tutorials you have to look at to do something, I must be more than twenty on the question, I still haven't succeeded, block 2.20 when I click on back I get the error next
    No active image found in material "SSS Skin Shader.001" (0) for object "texturetested"
    So I'm going to keep looking but thank you, I never got that far.

    Can't you just render the image using a 1:1 camera and then using passes to separate the diffuse only and save that. Won't that work?

      You could do that too with an ortho camera, sure.

      @@KevBinge yeah I was trying that , it worked fine , the only prob was the bump maps , basically they already have the blue purplish color , so no need for bump maps , but it doesn't the give the same look even by using a bump map

What would i need to do to translate the guidance in this video to get my procedural texture applied to the uv mapping for my model?       Jim, in a word, no. A good and simple way to get a procedural texture out is to just render it top down on a grid or plane. You can then take that image into an image editor and make the different maps from that.
      There is an addon called “bake wrangler.” It’s a paid add-on (I have no affiliate relationship with it at all,) but lot of people really like it. It might help you out. Thanks, and have a great night!

    Seems like this does not work anymore? Every-time I do it, the bake takes one second and shows up with a blank see through picture.

      Its a method I’ve used for a long time but there’s an add on called Bake Wrangler that makes it way easier now. Give that a shot.

    Hey Kev, thanks for your videos, been working through loads of them. Was pleasantly surprised to see Affinity Photo pop up at the end! (I look after the app in terms of tech things, training, demos etc). I work a lot with EXR multichannel documents from Blender (like to mix Cycles and Eevee passes).       Thanks James! I LOVE Affinity! I bought Photo and Designer during the SUPER generous covid sale and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve already made back the money I’d spent on them using them haha! I’d love to see you guys release an After-Effects style layer-based alternative, but you know... one thing at a time lol!

      blenderBinge you’re not the only one! A motion graphics app with the render engine would be amazing (especially with Metal compute on Mac), but we’re focusing on the core three apps for now. Publisher especially is quite young so there’s still much to come at this point. PS don’t know if you ever retouch EXR/HDR renders but I’ve created some macros that produce the Filmic looks within Photo (no OCIO dependencies or other fiddling required)-might be useful if you’ve ever struggled with that, we always have Blender users on the forums asking how to recreate Filmic transforms within Photo when using EXR/HDR formats..

      Whoa! That would be cool. In time of course. You guys have your data and know how to serve your markets! We’d all love something to replace Motion, as that was really one of the only competitors that AE ever had, and it was a “relatively” distant second.
      I need to jump in the forums and swim around a bit. I picked it up (Affinity) fairly recently and am very happy. I grew up with Photoshop like everyone else and used it since 1997, but you guys innovate and I support that 😀.
      I’d love to check out the EXR transforms! I love working 32-bit outside of the tutorials. I’m always rendering to multilayer EXR format out of both Blender and Houdini, so having a nice filmic transform in Photo would be amazing! EXR gives you more malleability than gold. Thanks!!

    Hi Kev Binge, first of all this is a realy helpfull video for every blender users so i realy appreciate it. Than i have to ask a question. You bake a texture map on planes and it works succesfully when you duplicate it under the original one. But i have to bake a texture map for my clothes and they are not basic as planes. So what i have to do? Do i have to make it smaller or bigger, or move it to bottom just like you did?

      It’s a technique I’d learned a few years ago and it works. Blender has 5 ways to do anything, so if you have a way you like better, use it 😀

      This works well for stills but it would be a pin for animation. A good workaround would be to set an orthographic camera looking straight down in your plane, filling the camera, then add your animated procedural to that, then do a screen render animation of the texture. It’s a process that I’ll probably do a video on soon.

      Yes, yes it would. I’d have to show people where to get it though, and answer tons of support questions for an addon at the change of a version. I don’t see it included in the official release yet, unless I’m missing something...

    Maybe this is a dumb question whose answer I could probably discern on my own by trying, but does the process change when you do it on a mesh that, oh, I dunno, has more than one face? Like a fully realized character? (Not being condescending, just threw in a little sarcasm). :)

      I detect no condescending tone 😀. It can, however, there is a faster way with an addon called render wrangler. I probably won’t do a video on that as this one is telling me there’s not much interest in this in the community. Check it out though. This video is really about just taking a procedural texture that you’d want to write out to an image editing program. Planes are simple.

      Awesome man! Yeah, I think I might have not labeled this correctly or something. You can bake out the procedurals though as flat maps if you want to use this stuff in Unreal or Unity.

    it says that the model isn't enable for rendering when i press bake

      Click the "filter" icon in the top right, it kind of looks like a little key, from there click the camera icon, this will allow you to enable/disable any object in the render right from your scene collection. That's my preferred method. Cheers

      Chloe, yes. “I need to remake this video,” lol... but there is an addon called “bake wrangler” that might help. I have a feeling that 3.0 “may have” messed up this whole method.

      @@KevBinge I did look into Bake Wrangler as well, it's no longer free but after reading up on it a bit, it was worth the purchase. It worked just as I needed it to and then some so I will be looking forward to some visual learning about this more if it's in your new year plan!

      @@KevBinge i just made a plane, applied the procedural texture to it, then rendered a square image. it's the most stupid way of doing it, but i couldn't be fucked to spend time troubleshooting, especially considering the fact that my textures looked like trash anyway.

    Is it possible to render the skysphere or something like that to make custom skysphere/skybox textures? If so would you know how? Thanks in advance, I love that you create these video's that show these methods and abilities the software has that I didn't know about. I hope you continue to keep uploading.

      If you’re just rendering the diffuse pass it doesn’t seem to matter but sure, go for it. Thanks for the tip though. 😀

      blenderBinge if it is connected - error will appear before baking, isn’t it?

      blenderBinge hmm, it was impossible in 2.82 but in 2.83 we don’t need to disconnect image texture and choose it when baking - it works very well. And it is nice. And it is not necessary to put mapping nodes - it works only with image texture as well ))

      You are right, it does throw a circular error, but yeah, works well now in 2.83. Pretty sweet now, right? Blender just keeps getting better 😀. Thanks!

    Will this work if my nodes have displacement?

      The normals will but displacement is tricky. There are paid addons like bake wrangler that handle that better. It’s tricky manually. Make sure too that any height maps should be 16bit to 32bit.

      @@KevBinge How do I export my object for use in Unreal Engine because I've made a landscape. When I export it as fbx, it just becomes a normal flat plane.

      Ah, for that you need to apply the modifier. There’s a drop down arrow on the modifier (I’m not in front of the computer at the moment, but it’s there.). You apply it and it turns the displacement into geometry. It might be heavy, so you may need to reduce it for UE, but it should work.

      @@KevBinge i've just found a problem, this process does not seem to work properly on meshes that have shapes different to planes... still, it was really useful and helped me a lot!
      Do you know if there is a way to bake the textures into a map that properly applies to a mesh's UV map?
