Love the channel but I have a suggestion for deck management. Lots of trip hazards are inherint in marine towing. Maybe a second large trash can kept on the Starboard aft corner to put the pump hose and power line in when not in use. Would always be on the same place for quick access and would be out of the way for you when you have to move fast to grab a line or another boat etc. Just a suggestion. Was watching and thinking with all the lines and hoses laying on your deck I would end up wrapped up in them at some point. Lifetime boater here. Lines are always a nemesis on boats.
Thanks Brent! Glad you're enjoying my content! The pump and hose/cord live in a forward compartment where it's protected from the elements, and usually goes right back there after use so it's not all over the deck like this. Same with the extra towline. That lives in that starboard deck hatch when not in use. This was definitely not one of my best showings for deck management, but I'm usually pretty good about putting things away, because like you said, always trip/entanglement hazards on a boat
@@CaptKenO I have watched several of your video's and I agree with Brent. You have the tendancy of just throwing everything on the floor creating those trip hazards yourself. You should get into the habbit of putting things away as you work. You are Not organized at all... You should alsxo look into re organizing your boat. It is not efficient at all...

First time I've seen your channel... I grew up on a 60 foot staysail schooner. I won't armchair you... I saw some stuff I'd do differently, and some stuff I think you did pretty well on.

Maybe going a bit slower initially and tying to a substantial piece of the t top would have maintained some more flotation, but hindsight is always easy, I ripped a handle off my outboard doing the same and only after realised my mistake, good job to get it back!

If it wasn't so rough I probably would've spent some more time trying to tie to a stronger part of the T Top...but considering I was worried about hitting bottom and getting stuck, I wasn't too concerned at the time 🙃

That seemed like way more of a headache then it was worth. Unless it was separate pay from the actual boat. Think a mini barge, like a pontoon boat with a flat deck and a engine hoist, would have been a whole lot easier and faster. Time is money!
It was part of the original job. It's not something that I could just leave out there anyway...but between the 2 jobs, I probably only spent 3 maybe 4 hours, so still well worth the effort.
I think I saw you on sunday 9-10 by ringling bridge and 10th st boat ramp. Looked like you were doing hip tow training with another tow boat catamaran.
Yes we were there, but that wasn't training unfortunately...the worldcat had partially sunk at the dock due to a through hull fitting failure, so we were pulling that boat out to see how bad the damage was. The 2 captains thst were on call that day were moving the boat and I was driving the truck and trailer

As I was watching, I was thinking float bags, and then you even mentioned that you do have some but didn't have them aboard.
I would think that this is something you'd carry on board all the time. Just as this video shows, they aren't doing you any good sitting back in their storage locker back on land when you need them, and this is definitely one of those times where they'd have been the perfect tool for the job.
Isn't there a cabinet you could stuff them into on board your boat?
I'd figure they'd compress down fairly small when not inflated.
It's like I went to a motorcycle dealership to buy my wife a pair of textile overpants for riding in the rain.
The salesman showed me that they came with this really nice wardrobe bag to keep them stored in at home when not in use.
"You don't get it", I told him. "These will get rolled up into a little ball and stuffed into the back of my saddlebag, so that if it starts to rain, we can simply pull over to the side, dig them out, and she can put them on....instead of thinking "oh yeah, we've got those nice rain pants back in the closet at home! Sure wish we had them with us NOW!"
A tool is useless unless you have it when you need it.

Unfortunately, the float bags do not store well at all, and this boat doesn't have much storage to begin with...so we only keep the equipment on board that we use on a somewhat regular basis

A taller hard point, power winch and grappling hook at the end of a rope will make your job a bit easier.

This job, yeah, it would've been nice. If you watch most of my videos however, you'll see that a mate really isn't needed and those are the more exciting videos. Imagine what it's like on the jobs that are so boring I don't even feel like editing and posting them 😂

Jus found the channel. Cool stuff. Do you think it may have helped to tie the fenders to the leading corners to keep the front up? Similar to what a wakeboard does to get on plane.
There wasn't a way to know which way it was going to want to float, and it was so large, that even keeping part of it above water wouldn't have made much if any difference
A winch like are used on sailboats sure would be useful on your boat.
It really wouldn't actually be all that useful and would just get in the way for the most part

Great video and another suggestion, why not a sawzall and cut the top into pieces while in the shallow and put them in the boat to carry back.
Too much time and effort, plus I wasn't expecting it to come detached from the boat. Also, there wouldn't have been a good way to access the T Top to cut it from the boat, and I sure wasn't getting off it in that surf.
Towing a giant "Rubik's cube" and hoping all the colors line up. Might have taken to a closer ramp and brought a trailer.
The ramp was further away and they wanted the boat back at the marina

A crane barge would be nice if we had one, but we don't. Do you mean OSHA? If you did, then no. We don't operate under their regulations

I was hoping the t top would start to plane out. I can say with confidence though that it still would've taken longer if I towed it slower and it still probably would've broken at some point

Does it look like a shark has been nibbling on it? That might be why it came loose? Also, in a previous vid you pulled a boat off of the mangrove roots. She was up high and dry. I was on the lookout for gators and crocs, but you showed no concern. When do they show up for a party? We have nothing like that in the Seattle area.
Hahaha nah. That boat had only been there for a couple of hours and sharks don't tend to find fiberglass all that appetizing 😂
For the mangrove job, it's brackish water so gators don't really like it and neither do most sharks, us it's far enough away from the inlet that a shark has no reason to be back there

you are towing it like its a parachute holding you back.......tie is tight to back cleat and then over top and pull it out of the water one side at a time
I don't think you have any clue how heavy a T Top is...with the mostly intact console, that whole thing probably weighed somewhere around 300-400lbs

You folks seem to operate on the margin, no crane, no winch not even a windless. Some high dollar rigs out there. Hoe do you get by?
Because salvage isn't our main business. We are a commercial assist tow company first and foremost with the ability to do salvages. Salvages are not our specialty
The videos are entertaining to say the least. I pillow bag and slower speed would have been better. I'm assuming you get paid the more jobs you do in a day. Equipping the boat better would behoove you. Good job.
If I had one available at the time, yes it would've been better...or as other people have said. why don't I have a crane barge? Well, it's not my operation or equipment

On some jobs, yes it would be nice to have a 2nd pair of hands, but insurance won't let us have non employees help

Removing the console and T top from the water was an important event for safety. The currents and wind could have taken it anywhere. Those waters are very popular and used for many different sports.
Can you imagine a water ski accident catching a fin on that debris?

They pulled the boat a few days later and scrapped it. It's unfortunate because I had some of the guys who are mates with me on the parasail boat who were willing to pay some money and take possession of the boat to have a cheap project boat to work on over the summer
