As a former motorcycle rider…..if you come across a stranded motorcyclist. You stop and help any way you can. In 1965, I towed a boat through Boca Inlet with my ten HP Evinrude. Being 16 I didn’t know better. But outboards were really unreliable back then, and we helped each other.. No towing companies, radios or cell phones. There was no on water LE or Coast Guard anywhere.

I find it amazing that here on the Great Lakes recreational boaters will go out of there way to help others at the ramp. Especially the elderly or the novices that just aren't ready yet or don't have the experience or correct equipment. Florida is the complete opposite, Its a argument or fight to get someone to lend a hand down there.
All depends on where you are. I worked a couple of summers in Chicago on Lake Michigan, and plenty of boaters there were assholes
that's crazy, you might need one of those other boats help. I never pass up the chance to tow someone with a nicer boat than mine lol

I would say that it was probably a missing plug.... I've seen it a few times. Helped a guy out by giving him my spare plug. Once I put it in for him, his bilge pump did the rest.

Used to work at a Fishing Resort and saw a customer launch his boat and take it out for a spin immediately after getting it in the water.
5 minutes later I see him come flying towards the launch site because he forgot to put the plug in his boat before launching it lmao.
Took about 3 minutes for the water to start splashing up past the floorboards and that's when he realized he forgot to put the plug in and just hauled ass back before his boat sunk lmao.
I think the tow boat captain should have ASKED them to move NOT tell they have to move out nobody likes to be told what to do

I purposely didn't state the cost in the video because it was a special rate. If someone heard that rate and then we go and quote our normal rate, they wouldn't be very happy

That would've made me an ass for sure...still justified, but definitely an ass. But if I didn't have the trailer in the water and they did, I wouldn't have made them back out anyway

Lots of people and congestion. Few of them know how to handle a boat, even less how to backup a trailer. High stress brings out the crazy in them.

Loss of courtesy? We can split hairs, but when a random person comes up to you and says, "I need you to move out" as if they're some type of authority figure... you aren't going to respond too kindly. The issue was initiated when he basically demanded they move instead of asking politely.
This is an example of why I have been saying that any boat over 18ft should REQUIRE a license.
Commercially we need to have a merchant Mariner license but federally they should implement a “light” version that skips the security aspects and medical cert to ensure every captain knows the rules of the road. Boater safety courses are OK but I promise half the boaters don’t even have that.
The boater safety course covers rules of the road. The main problem is that it's an open book test that takes like 30 min to complete

I don't think it's by state...more of who administers the test. Most states follow the NASBLA accreditation, so they offer a free online test. There are plenty of places even in Florida that will charge people to take the same test, so it's important to do some research first!
@@CaptKenO no I’m born prior to 89 which in my state means I have to get a permit from a marina or other store selling TWRA licenses and this permit allows me to sit for a test which I have to take at a designated location and it is not open book.

I have enjoyed many of your videos. Just a thought, have you tried soft shackles on any recoveries? They are much easier to hook and unhook than D rings.

I don't know of any operations that do use them, so I assume there's a good reason for it.
My guesses are they're more expensive than a similarly rated D ring, maybe don't hold up great in saltwater, and aren't abrasion resistant 🤷

I'm on my third Bay liner, went from 25Foot to26 then to 28 used for transportation to and from the Channel Islands usually Catalina and Scuba Diving....When I was in the Army I was stationed as Coxswain on a 45" Patrol boat powered by Two 671 GMC Diesels in Alaska !!!!

That Four Winns makes a real nice little lake boat. But lake boats don't always make good salt water boats.
I can't speak to four winns as a whole, but yes, freshwater boats tend to have issues here

As a Capt. My self I'd have taken boat tag of the not so nice and when they ever put in a call either double charged then or black listed them. But that's just me. Come try some SAR out in Ocracoke:). It's some nasty work.
The dispatches don't come in with an FL number...and if they're members, we don't charge them anyways...but if I get on scene and recognize them...we'll see 🤔😂
I guessed drain plug only because I've done it myself 🤦♂, but at least I realised as soon as I returned from parking the trailer, I just put the plug in & switched the bilge pump on.

They did give up their spot, almost immediately. I think their initial reaction was mostly based on how the tow captain pulled up and sorta just ordered them to move.

Did they have dead batteries that made the bilge pump inoperative? Were they taking on more than the pump could keep up with?
Not really sure on this one. Usually, it's taking on water, bilge pump keeps up until it drains the battery, and then it sinks

Yes. I believe if the audio isn't clear enough, TH-cam more or less say f%=k it and doesn't do the auto captions, and therefore there won't be an option for you to turn it on because there's nothing there

@Animalwon No problem! I think creators used to be able to turn them on and off, but TH-cam likes to control things how they see fit...so now the only options are to add your own as either a preloaded script, or to type it out as the video plays
Missing plug, ive seen guys ram a small branch into the hole to get them back to dock before and we have those impatient people everywhere. Here in the uk at the marina where im moored (i always help out boat moves) we were craning in two boats into to slipway and we were forced to put them in the order they where on the hard standing (no room to move the crane around the first boat) the first boat went in (a 70ft widebeam narrowboat) and then pulled it to the end of the slipway to make room for the second. In an hour both boats in the water and the owner of the second boat wants to leave, we have no key for the widebeam to drive it out the slipway (owner on his way) he starts getting irrate we end up pulling the widebeam out by hand 3 guys on ropes me on the widebeam keeping it from hitting other boats (there is a 3-4 knot flow on the river) we pull it as far as we dare and let the irrate guy out he has a few feet of clearance to get through so i sat on the front of the widebeam to protect the widebeam and guide him out as he passes i have to push his stern over as he was about to hit the widebeam with my feet (on his rub rails) and he swears at me to keep my feet off his varish to which i reply better my feet than this steel bow! And with him gone we fight the river flow to get the boat back in the slipway and the guy saved probably half an hour by being an ass

I don't know anything about boats, But Why can't someone come up with a drain plug that acts like a CHECK-VALVE? water flows out but can't enter .
We have check valves on boats in different places (usually on deck drains...the problem with them is that they can fail. I've seen those fail more often than someone forgetting to put in a drain plug. My guess is that's why we use a solid plug instead of a check valve

The boat was on a lift before, but still didn't look like it was in great condition to begin with. That being said, the guy taking possession of the boat agreed to the terms, so to him it was worth it
