    Side Table with Concrete // DIY Concrete Furniture// DIY Concrete Table ...In this video, I show you how to make a concrete side table with a white oak modern base. This is the third concrete side table I’ve done, but this time I had the mold cut on a CNC out of High Density Urethane. It produced a seamless concrete side table top, albeit with quite a few bubbles around the edges - definitely need to find a better way to vibrate the form next time! Let me know what you think in the comments below! Thanks for watching! #sidetable #concretetable #kjsawdust

      Thanks JR! And it's Jerry, not Frank! 😹. A MCM chair is a possibilty...I've been working on some design sketches, but chair making can be quite a process to get the right dimensions, etc. for maximum aesthetics and comfort.

      @@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking THanks for the reply-- my bad. Jerry, of course.
      So, yo;ur answer circles back around to, WHy not an MCM chair? I think it was Mies Van der Rohe who said it was easier to design a good house than to design a good chair. He wasn't all that far wrong. So why not stretch a little? Challenge yourself a bit? See if you can recreate those boss guest chairs from Don Draper's office in the first two seasons of Mad Men? Lots of tasty curves-- bandsawn from thick stock? Steam-bent? Laminated glue-up? And how to tenon the stretchers to the legs? Where do you put the arms?

    On the concrete I use a palm sander and let it vibrate against the sides and bottom to get rid of the bubbles on the surface then put it in a plastic bag and plunge it into the mix to get rid of the bubbles in the main body if necessary.

    I see a lot of makers/woodworkers using the white Scotchbrite pads for applying finish, and probably just as many starting to use Rubio Monocoat. Can the white Scotchbrite pads be used for applying other finishes like wipe on poly, danish oil, shellac, water based poly, etc OR is it specific to oil finishes like Rubio Monocoat?

    • @KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
      @KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When using Rubio, you only sand up to 150, maybe 180. The white scotch brite is to help work the Rubio into the pores. I wouldn’t recommend for things like water based poly or shellac because they dry too fast so it would leave bubbles and streaks and you really need a lint free applicator. You could probably try it with oil based wipe on, but I would probably go with a foam brush or sponge applicator. But give it a shot and see what results you get.

      I guess i was thinking more along the lines of cauliflower mashed potatoes since they are so much more viscous with the pound of grass fed butter I put in there. And you are so right about there hair! I generally keep it very short so my wife isn't shocked one day when she wakes up and it's gone for good. 😂

      It’s the ‘stings’ for each section. As I say, you may love them, in which case more power to you, it’s your programme and your choice. And believe me, I’ve directed films, so I know that everyone will have an opinion and will give it whether asked for or not. Sometimes it’s useful, other times a pain in the arse. All I wanted to do was show my confidence in your talent and your voice. The other stuff means less than nothing if you don’t have what you’ve got. The talent in presenting and the talent in woodcraft. Chapeau, sir, chapeau

      @@luakhurst208 Thanks for clarifying Lucy!! Let me explain...as a content creator on YT, you have to study your analytics. A huge analytic is audience retention. If people don't stick around and watch, your videos don't get pushed by the algorithm and you waste away in obscurity. With quick cuts, transitions, stings, etc. it helps to hold people's attention. Most people, myself included, have very short attention spans when it comes to short form content (which is why TikTok is so wildly popular - they can watch 25-50 vids or 1 YT vid in the same time frame) because there are 100 other videos they want to watch. So, I have to play the analytics to try and succeed. This is how I make my living, so I do my research and digging into my analytics as much as possible and put as many practices in place to help my videos get pushed and exposed to new people who might enjoy my content. Again, I am more than humbled and appreciative of your kind words and support.

    Every time I see bubbles I wonder if vacuum would have helped. With epoxy you have a time constraint, but concrete might have degassed more quickly ... but then the foam might have disintegrated.... I don't know. Just babbling.
