  • If you were to ask me what my favorite dining table is that I’ve ever built, it would be this beautiful
    round trestle table! Round tables like this have so much character, and the pedestal base adds
    interest and intrigue to any space. The walnut that I used actually needed to dry for two years before
    I was able to use it! The wait was well worth it...the color and grain of the wood added to the
    fantastic trestle table design. Let me know what you think!

    Just found this video as I'm finishing up a very similar build for a customer! It's quite massive, too, with a 5" square column, but my braces aren't quite as thick.
    I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one building thick furniture.

    Love the (classic) video! How do you deal with squeeze out when using epoxy? I'm always nervous to use it for glue ups because it's so messy, even with the benefit of more open time

    • @KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
      @KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For epoxy squeeze out, I wipe the excess with acetone. Nowadays, I use TotalBoat THIXO which is a 2-part thickened epoxy which is much easier to control how much of a mess you make because it doesn't run all over the place. It comes in a tube, like caulk, and uses a mixing tip to combine the 2 parts as it comes out of the tube. I swear by that stuff. Gives you about 30-35 minutes of open time.

    I always love how we always say "don't forget to check for square" haha. As a newer woodworker if it wasn't square at that point all I would know to do is curse haha. What are some mediation tricks if you come to that point and you're not square or are you just screwed?

    • @KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
      @KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this case, I could cut a slightly larger groove and put in an angled wedge to get it back to square when I did the dry fit. However, I would have checked that my miter gauge was square to my blade after I made my first test cut before I cut all the joinery.

      @@tomleed2818 Woodpeckers Tools. I don’t really recommend those because they tend to slide. You’re better off making your own like the ones I had in the video which were two pieces of plywood glued together and then notches cut in them

    If it didn't take 2 years, it's not a Keith Johnson piece.

    Like....straight up legitimate question....
    How do you price your work?

      It varies. Sometimes it’s best to ask the client their budget and work backwards from there, so you don’t waste your time pricing something they can’t afford.

    How longer were the pieces that you half lapped? I am about to make a similar one for a 5x5 table and I’m unsure about how long to make the pieces.
