    Dhaba or Punjabi dhaba is a roadside restaurant in the Indian subcontinent. They are on highways, generally serve local cuisine, and also serve as truck stops. They are most commonly found next to petrol stations, and most are open 24 hours a day. Since many truck drivers in the Indian subcontinent are of Punjabi descent, and Punjabi food and music are popular throughout the Indian subcontinent, the word dhaba has come to represent any restaurant that serves Punjabi food, especially the heavily spiced and fried Punjabi fare preferred by many truck drivers.

    Are people here to see the recipe or criticize her accent?! Wtf! Just watch the damn recipe or go away. Hate stupid negativity. She is raised in Britain so she has a British accent. Don't watch if you don't like it! Simple

    • @silverkittyzen
      @silverkittyzen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      To be honest, an accent is an important part of any video. If they don't understand her easily, (a lot of people don't understand foreign accents easily) it might be frustrating to watch the video. "don't watch if you don't like it" is an easy thing to say. I might tell you the same thing - "don't read their comments if you don't like their negativity". I wouldn't blame her at all for her accent or her chirpiness, they seem quite natural, let's just hope people get used to the accent over a period of time.

    • @silverkittyzen

      Oh right. You Brits are happy with her so the rest of the world shouldn't complain...because the world revolves around you Brits?
      You need to pull your head out of your ass. Everybody has the right to have an opinion even if it critical.

      What is there to complain about her accent? Very clear and pleasant-- unlike the Indian accent. If you fee inferior -- get over it.

      Maybe they are jealous because she knows English better than them. Me too surprised at people making inappropriate comments or simply rude. Everyone has their own way of cooking . Guys saying to women cooking you look cute. Some of these cooks are married.

    I’m Indian and my lovely husband is Brahmin and (of course) vegetarian. This means I have learn some classic Indian veg food to keep hubby happy.
    I enjoyed this video and Neelam’s style. And more importantly this recipe is BOMB. My husband loves it!
    I did make some changes to the recipe though:
    To the tadka:
    - added 1 tsp mustard seeds
    - 1/2 tsp hing
    - 3 dried red chilies
    - no black cardamom (I didn’t have any)
    - replaced the rajma
    - Added 1 tsp mango pickle (trust me on this!)
    - A buttload of spinach at the end
    Try it!

    Neelam..having never used a pressure cooker, what do you mean by the cooker giving 8 whistles..brilliant recipes by the way and a pleasure to watch

    • @The_Beast_666
      @The_Beast_666 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Allan Turner It means you have to blow 8 whistles at the pressure cooker while it is cooking with a gap of one minute between each whistle! Thus in eight minutes thy daal will be done!

    I am making this for the second time. Do you think it would be ok to strain the ghee of all the whole seasonings, then move forward to sautéing the onions, tomatoes... I loved the flavor without straining the whole seasonings, but my partner said biting into cloves and cardamom was a little too much and has asked that I strain them out this time. Thank you!

    Is it traditionally supposed to be as watery looking? Apart from that I'm sure it's delicious as..
    Guess you can just heat it for longer at the end or add less water yeah ?

    • @The_Beast_666
      @The_Beast_666 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes of course. Some prefer the daal like a soup while others like it less watery. You can either add less water while cooking or can burn off excess water at the end after removing the lid the former option being the better one.

    • @lilacfunk
      @lilacfunk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dal will thicken up a lot as you stir, as the lentils disintegrate. I also make large batches so I prefer it watery.

    just a view for dabewali dal, why making a dal in a pressure cooker, all the ingredients will lose its taste, and 8 whistles is definitely a big no-no when the taste is concerned. I did this mistake of going for 8 whistles for daal and chole, so I asked my mom whats wrong in my recipe and she said if you are using beans and daal 2 whistles are enough if you go for 3-4 they get more soft and loose taste and after that take a separate pan and give tadka and put your daal with some water and close the lid for 3-4 mins and yes when I tried that the daal was perfect with good taste.

    My god! People are so stupid here, why care about the accent so much when she is showing you how to cook. So if she was speaking in American accent and the food was bizarre, that's all right? The recipe was simple and nice, could be a bit improved for Dhaba style. Btw I am giving my judgment as I'm a professional chef from Culinary institute of America with an experience in the professional kitchens.

      Her accent is more real than Nick Saraf's. The funny thing is he is trying too hard to be British and she is trying to fit in with us and yet I've seen people being more accepting of him.

      Please explain where she over acted. I'm extremely confused at comments like this one.

      She is extremely chirpy. Some people can't believe that it's possible for someone to be so happy, so it must be fake :P

      I come here for the recipes, no matter the host. Neelam speaks the language and accent she grew up with. Deal with it.
