    update: i made these burgers. i dont have marmite so i used msg and added salt, pepper, garlic in the mix. i didnt add the coconut oil layer, i just oiled the pan as i cooked them. made sure there was enough water and let them set 30 mins. cooked one in the microwave like he did, then in a skillet and it fell apart :( not sure what i did wrong. i added 2 more tsps of methylcellulose and half cup of more water and let it sit in the fridge overnight. that did the trick! if yours do not bind and get firm, maybe let them rest longer? or more water? or more methylcellulose? not sure but this DOES WORK! it turned out so great! Thank you sauce stache!

  • @DonnieX6
    @DonnieX6 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Wouldn' it be easier to dissolve the Marmite first in some tablespoons of hot water and then add it together with the rest of the cold water into the dry parts? But I have to try this, looks delicious!! ☺️👍

      @@SauceStache Usually when I get impossible burgers, I put a little bit of onion salt, garlic salt, and celery salt. But if I want to mix things up for a change, sometimes I sprinkle the burgers with Soul Seasoning. It gives burgers almost a taco flavor, if you used the taco seasoning as a rub instead. 💙

    Yes, I have all these ingredients. I love that it isn't overseasoned. And, the taste test is so fun. I really enjoy seeing that you, and others, eat what you make. And, there was no TVP in school for me. I was blessed with a real lunch lady who was on a mission to feed us well on a shoestring. Process food is too expensive when you live in farm country. Liver and heart in our burgers was likely the excellent flavor I recall.

This can help the prospective cook trying out this recipe to feel more confident in making this and hopefully other recipes. I also like how this burger can be easily adapted to what the cook wants vs. Slavishly follow every ingredient (after the core basics, of course).

    With methylcellulose it depends on the type you are using. There are several grades that all firm at different rates. Some are very mushy and some are very firm. You want a high viscosity for burgers. Other classes (which I used at first) will give you a mushy fall apart burger no matter how long you hydrate because it’s the property of the grade.

    the new taste tests are pretty good! I don't generally like taste tests, but yours are nice - and the new scene is refreshing. More than the taste tests though is my love of the new content you've been putting out. You seem to have a simpler focus and less fats/oils where the ingredients are concerned. That's great!

    I love the taste tests. Love Monica (same first name) and the view point that she brings. I am so glad that you did a recipe with not as many ingredients. I will definitely try. Keep up the great content like your series on making bacon in so many different ways.

    OM, Boca burgers, lol! Totally old school. I forgot about those. Used to eat those all the time. They were one of, if not the first commercially available. I also remember GimmeLean and there was another one I can't recall.
    I've been doing something very similar to that burger when just need a basic, quickie. Except I learned about methyl from saucestache. Usually put in some gluten or konjac to bind.
    Vegemite works great too.
