can i hook up the original instrument cluster to a swapped engine? i have a gxr swap and the old owner turned it into a cafe racer and ive been trying to restore it to its original glory, but all the wires have been butchered. does anyone know exactly where i need to connect all the wires to reed the gas, speed, gear et. your video has been super helpful thank you. very clear and understandable👍
Hmm, you’d need the wiring diagrams from both bikes then compare colours. A bit of googling should get you the diagrams. The speedo is manual so that’s easy. The lights are pretty straightforward just need to match the colours. Tachometer could be interesting though as it’s electronic. A matter of trying it and see if it works and also if it seems accurate.
@@plaxsax thank you so much. I got the tail light hooked up super simple. There are these two twist locks on the instrument cluster, do you know what I'm supposed to connect them to. probably a stupid question but I've never owned a bike so I'm really confused.
@@averagewhacker5991 Should be only one of those metal wire hooks from memory. Under the triple clamp part of the frame there are two openings. The wiring harness goes through the left one as you sit on the bike. If you look just above the opening you should see a 6mm bolt hole. The metal clip bolts on there and holds the wiring harness in place.
Looking Good! I see that you buy Genuine Suzuki parts from Partszilla I find that no one can come close to the walk in price i get from my local Queensland Dealer
MrDeanoos yeh, I can get some parts from Mick Hone but Partzilla has almost everything and the prices are quite reasonable. Used to use Suziparts in south Australia but he went out of business.
Can you tell me which carb pipe, did you run the vacuum tube to the tank from, and have you run hoses from the rest? Also Where do they go ? Float bowl hoses to, where do they go ? Please.
Sure. There are 8 hoses in total. The 4 float bowl hoses go over to the right hand side and drop down between the back of the motor and the swing arm next to the engine mount bracket. Nothing really holding them there from memory although you could use a loose cable tie to hold them in place. Then there are three hoses from the tops of carbies 2, 3 & 4. The ones from carbies 2 & 4 are breathers. They go over the top of the airbox, between the mounting brackets, go down the back of the airbox, through a little metal strap on the back of the air box and then to the same place that the first 4 bowl hoses go. The hose off carby 3 is the vacuum for the fuel tap and the final hose is the fuel hose from the T piece up to the fuel tap.
@@plaxsax Thank you. Do that today, Excellent. Now to find out why it wont fire on cylinder 3 unless I take off the vacuum and then, it wont fire on 4.
@@bob4bob3bob2bob Hmmm weird. There may be a leak in the vacuum part of the fuel tap. You can test it by putting a hose on the vacuum pipe and sucking. Fuel should start to flow but you shouldn't be able to suck air constantly. You should also not get fuel in your mouth! To test things you could block off the pipe from the top of carby 3 three and run the tap on prime, then the bike should run correctly. Remember not to leave the tap on prime otherwise fuel will eventually fill your sump. Takes a few weeks though. There may be other air leaks as well. I replaced the O rings between the 4 small rubber manifolds and the head as they had turned rock hard and were leaking. I guess you have checked compression on all 4 cylinders?
@@plaxsax Done the mouth suck test- all good. Would an inlet rubber leak stop firing completely? I have ordered 4 more. I have checked compression and rebuilt carb3 3 times it has new jets too. Compression is good.
I'm going through the same on my old 1981 gs750 lx....thanks for the videos
Glad you like the videos. Good luck with your resto.
