Chasing 4014 through Idaho July 22nd, 2024

Chased UP 4014 through Idaho on its way back to Cheyenne, WY at the end of its Westward Bound Tour. Caught it in 4 locations, Cache Junction, UT, McCammon, ID, Alexander, ID, and Georgetown, ID. 4014 had UP 1983, Western Pacific Heritage Unit, in the consist.

Magnificent catches of the steam locomotive Big Boy coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars.
Hearing that puffing and chufing sound and cars coming through is absolutely crazy.

Hopefully one of the trips next year, because there are definitely very scenic spots that would make good pictures or video.

I was SO disappointed when Union Pacific announced it wouldn't be coming through Boise in 2024 after all.

This is great, but I have to say you missed something amazing after you left Cache Junction early. I wish I could find a recording of both 4014 and the manifest (going the opposite direction) getting a highball and passing each other with horns and whistles blaring, 20,000 horses roaring to life in two very different but complementary styles. One of the most epic symphonies I've ever heard.

That's the chance we take sometimes. I could have stayed gotten the horn show and missed getting to McCammon.
