So many spectators are WAY too close to the active tracks--with no clue how dangerous that is. All the same, this videography is some of the best I've seen so far! A beautiful job, and in beautiful country. Thanks for posting it!
Makes me worried we'll se a repeat of when 844 hit s woman who was trying to get pictures and somehow didn't hear the crew blasting the whistle trying to stop in time
Awesome video! I absolutely love that steam whistle, gives me goosebumps every time. Specially when in the 2nd half of the video the echo in the woods makes it sound even better! It's hard to capture the true loudness but that forest echo really helps getting an idea. I live in Europe so I'll never see and hear this in real life, so I try to enjoy these video's to the limit! Thx for sharing!
The balcony located at the end of the last passenger car reminds me of when Harry Truman did his WHISTLE STOP CAMPAIGN while he ran for President in 1948.😊😊😊😊
What an amazing restoration. Sure many hours spent on this. This is the only Big boy still operating but there is another at Steamtown National Park. Awesome
Fantastic footage and thanks for sharing 👍, especially for those of us from Down Under who rely on this footage so we can enjoy in some way the “Big Boy”,……but just in my own opinion, how good did that big brute SD70Ace sound in some of those scenes!…bit of a scene stealer i think 👍👌😉🇺🇸🇦🇺
I got to see #4014 come into Oroville, then to Marysville and Roseville, toured him at Roseville. But damn, I should have kept going south when he did!😢
Adds dynamic brakes, PTC (which is required by law to run on the main) and it helps to extend the range of big boy along with the aux tenders also the dynamic brakes help a lot with brake shoe wear on big boy which probably saves a ton of money for UP since the shoes are custom made for big boy
The diesel provides dynamic brakes which helps lower maintenance cost on 4014 since they have to custom machine brake shoes for it, also it helps greatly to extend big boys range since they don't have water towers and fueling stations on the track for steam loco's anymore
It's doing what it's meant to its less to prevent the exhaust from going up and more to slow it down before it hits the roof of the tunnel to prevent damage
From the 11:55 mark gave me goose bumps. So beautiful.

@@KiRiTO72987 And let's also not forget CP 2816's incident hitting a woman as well.

Yo this was filmed on my sisters b day
what is the diesel train for?
dynamic braking and range extending.

why is the diesel engine running? is it also pulling?

Smoke diverter doing almost nothing lol
not sure what you're looking at, but the stack hoods are doing their job just fine.
