It’s all about different training effects. More static recovery periods are conducive to very intense efforts, such as this one, as it was a tuneup workout. Jogging recoveries are best for very aerobically heavy sessions

I guess the workout is more about getting used to race pace after a block of threshold, rather than increasing fitness so a full recovery allows that.
