I've been listening to Eric for 57 years and I cannot begin to understand how he can sing this song without breaking. I guess that's the level of professionalism he's acquired over all the years. Me, I can't get past two minutes of this song without the tears running down my cheeks. 💔
I remember when this song was released and it was on every single radio station. A bitter song to your son. Not much more is needed to be said. He's singing from his soul, I hope and pray his son hears him still today every time we watch his video. Eric had a really tough life brought on by fame and excess but the love for your son remains unchanged. His MTV Unplugged performance was really great too, lots of other tracks.
Love his soothing voice and relaxing guitar. Such a sad song. "Tears In Heaven, and "Wonderful Tonight" are my favorite Clapton song. I'd like to believe that the answer is yes. Even with the short time spent together, they would know each other in Heaven. Loved the video and as ways great reaction.❤❤❤❤❤
To me, dear Aaliyah po, this is more than just a beautiful and heart-wrenching song. It's also an incredible feat of inner strength just being able to write it, much less record it. I write and co-write songs for my own band and, while I am nowhere near the level of Eric Clapton, I know how difficult it is to write something so personally painful. I've tried many times to write a song for my brother, only 6 when he was tragically killed, and it tears me apart just trying. That Clapton could finish this gorgeous, haunting piece is testament to an inner strength that he's managed to tap into, let alone share it with the world. In the process, Clapton created a song that touches all of us in a very personal way. Ingat ka lagi, kaibigan. Blessed Be ♥
Hello Aaliyah, A very sad true story & song🙏While Eric was busy touring and just being the busy musician he is Conner was being looked after by a friend of Conners mother when he climbed an open window and fell 53 floors to his death
You mentioned the good job the actors do here. They are Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patric and the clips you see in the music video are actually from the movie, Rush (1991). It's well worth a look for anyone interested in gritty crime dramas.
I still remember how shocked I was the next day standing next to the building on 57th St. where his son Conor fell out of the window on the 53rd floor. This is from an article a few years later. The shattered mother of Eric Clapton’s son Conor - who plummeted to his death from a Manhattan high-rise that had no window guards - says the tragedy turned her into “a zombie” who couldn’t think straight. And Lory del Santo adds that she’s so freaked out by Clapton’s poignant tribute song to his dead 4-year-old, “Tears from Heaven,” that she has to flee when she hears it. “For five years after the accident, I hardly felt as though I was there, hardly alive,” del Santo told London’s News of the World in her first interview since the 1991 tragedy. “I was like a zombie and just couldn’t cope.” Del Santo, 39, clearly remembers March 20, 1991, when she was living in a 53rd-floor apartment in the Galleria Condominium building on West 57th Street. “The window had been left open. Eric was on his way to pick Conor up,” she says. “I heard the fax machine and checked it out before going to check on Conor. I walked in just a fraction of a minute too late. He had gone. If I hadn’t checked the fax, he’d still be alive. “When I told Eric what had happened, he froze solid. It was like he’d just stopped functioning. He didn’t say anything. It was all so unreal. When Conor died, the relationship between Eric and me died.”
*I met Eric Clapton at the time of his worldwide tour some time after his son's passing & this song was a hit. Got a autograph too.* (The video you watched is from the movie RUSH where this song was used.)
I can remember when this song was getting a lot of radio play. Then he also performed it on his “Unplugged” special. The success of the song might have led to that performance. At the time I didn’t know the tune’s backstory, but I learned it soon enough. And while I always thought it was a tender ballad, knowing the subject of the lyrics just makes it hit so much harder. And I knew the owner of a record store whose favorite guitarist was Clapton. (The film clips in the video were taken from a movie called “Rush”, about two drug enforcement agents who go undercover in the drug culture and become addicts themselves.)

What a wonderful woman you have become.I have followed your podcast for awhile and enjoyed your podcast.Your open mind to music and that beautiful smile and talent you have I only hope for the best
Still waiting for you to drop down the Japanese rabbit hole "LOVEBITES" (Epilogue), "BAND MAID" (Hate?), "NEMOPHILA" (Oiran), "FATE GEAR" (Sky Pirates)!!!!! Thank you for what you do!!!!!
Clips are from a movie that used the song in its soundtrack, a movie called "Rush" that was really good - movie has nothing to do with the songs and was nominated for a few Oscars - kind of confusing - Jennifer Jason Leigh is a fantastic actress
No, his name was Conor. And no, the poor little one fell from a 53rd floor window onto the roof of a 4-story building next to the building. No, the windows were not open because it was a hot day, it was because the housekeeper cleaned the pivoting window, and left it open so it could dry. Please do a simple search on your favorite search engine and check your facts before you post.
Although this was used in a movie, I find this particular video distracting. It takes away from the lyrics and deep emotion of the song. Eric has a great number of other live performances. I agree. Even without knowing the story, the song presents the emotion clearly and deeply. For another emotional but more upbeat song try his "Wonderful Tonight".
Eric is one of the best guitarists ever, but even though I love his work, I have to admit he isn’t the best vocalist ever. The video is taken from a film and not specifically designed for the video
This song was used in the soundtrack of the movie RUSH. The film is about two undercover cops' struggle with addiction. This video does a great disservice to Clapton's song as the movie footage confuses the listener. It's an incongruity with Clapton's lyrics. Bad choices.

Wow, that high? I thought it was a fourth floor window! Thanks for correcting!
Great song that should break anyone with a heart into tears. Glad to see you give it a go.

The song alone soars way above any damned movie.
Legendary musician. He is such an amazing guitarist. Hope you're doing well. Keep up the great work
I hope she explores more of Mr. Clapton. His music is well worth it.
Merci 🌳.
Très bon film "Rush" et très bon album de Clapton pour le film.
Respect ✨
There is a great live version of this song from "MTV's Unplugged" that I think you would really enjoy! 🙂

Crawled out a fourth floor window! To his death! ALMOST a church song to deal with grief!
The poor young boy FELL out of a 53rd floor window and landed on a 4-story building. Please, Google a story before you share incorrect information.
@@SP-ui8bk you are correct, I was in the wrong and had incorrect information I passed on, I heard it was a third or 4 floor window!

You realize he was a drug addict at the time ... people who have addiction he's has thousands to get sober. God bless Eric

Google “Clapton Is God”. Headline from 50 years ago.

This video does a great disservice to Clapton's song as the movie footage confuses the listener. It's an incongruity with Clapton's lyrics.
Bad choices.
This may be the saddest song I know.
