This is such a sad song, Clapton wrote it about his 4 year old son that fell from a high rise window to his death. Having died so young Eric is asking the question that when he dies will his son recognise him when he arrives in heaven.
@musicmaniac6124, though Eric and Stevie Ray Vaughan were touring together when Stevie Ray passed, the song was singularly about the death of his son, Conner. Eric did participate in the tribute concert for Stevie Ray and has talked about him in great detail.
In addition to tragically losing his son on March 20, 1991, there was another tragic event which occurred in his life about 7 months earlier when Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash after a concert he performed with Eric Clapton at in East Troy, Wisconsin. If not for a stoke of luck, it very easily could have been Eric Clapton in that helicopter that night.
Crazy sad story from a legendary talent. I was fortunate to see Clapton in 2008 and it was a treat for this old guitarist to watch one of his heros play. I have about ten including the likes of Page,Hendrix,SRV,Saturani etc. LOTS OF GOATS 🐐 🐐 🐐 🐐 🐐 🐐 FOR THIS OLD 🐐 to love ❤ listening too. Yes Lulu the goats LOL Keep it up Y'all. Bluesfingers1 ("The Music of Everything ")
This isn't the only song about Conor's death. One of Eric's close friends is drummer and singer Phil Collins. He, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford were working on the Genesis album We Can't Dance at the time, when Phil got the tragic news from a phone call. So in tribute to him, they wrote the song Since I Lost You and, with Eric's approval, included it on the album.
Please do Eric Clapton - Layla. It's a song about George Harrison's ex-wife while he was still married to her. But it wasn't enough to break the friendship, since both guys marriages to there partners at the time were falling apart.
The movie is called "Rush". It's about two undercover narcotics cops who become addicted to the drugs they are trying to take out of circulation. It's from about 1992.
Eric and his son Connor had spent the previous day at a fair. Eric had finally arrived at a point where he thought he could be a father to Connor. He was going to take his ex and Connor to the zoo and Connor was so excited he was bouncing off the walls. A building maintenance man arrived to fix the latching mechanism on a floor to ceiling window for safety reasons. Connor and his nanny were playing hide and seek in other rooms and his mother was getting ready for the day. Eric was arriving at the building and the nanny was stopped by the maintenance man to advise her of the safety hazard as the window was open. In that moment of inattention Connor darted out the window and fell 49 stories to his death. Eric arrived just a couple minutes later to the chaos in the household. A truly sad event.
First time I saw Clapton was with Cream in 1967. Saw him solo 6 more times thru the mid 90s. The man is simply incredible - beyond words. Even on nights when we wasn't at 100% he amazed. I have no idea how many songs I watched where I literally had tears running down my checks. He can bring that level of emotion out of you thru the message of the song or his pure talent of his play. He is simply one of a kind and one of the very best ever. I feel very lucky to have lived during the times I have. WOW !
At 1:50 Lullu almost scared the sh*it out of me, even though I could not hear the sneeze .. I think its very funny how people look when the just about to sneeze.. thanks for a great reaction, its a beautiful song.. :D
The clips were made specifically for the music video, and were not from a movie. The original presentation of the song was on MTV's "Unplugged" Series in the early 1990s, but the clips were not used. That presentation was simply Eric, and his group playing and singing. There was a mix of songs; this song, some blues, and some pop music of the time. The is an album called "Eric Clapton Unplugged" that has the set list. My favorite album.
Okie dokie, lulu you gotta remind those two mamas there with ya.. the movie soundtrack that this song is from is called RUSH...now you can TH-cam it or search on one of the streaming channels... YOU'LL LOVE 💕 THE MOVIE..u may have to weed through a couple references , but trust me it'll be worth it... ..as a big time bonus Sam Elliott and Greg Alaman are in the movie
Your next video should be Bee Gees' "Too Much Heaven." Many others on TH-cam have reacted to it. It's a beautiful song just like this masterpiece. This song should be followed by Genesis' "In Too Deep." Please do this favor.
Great song, horrible video. It is such a waste to tie this song to a movie that leads people in an entirely different direction from the facts behind the story. I realize it was used in the movie, but it just leads people away from the more interesting and sad story.
I think you first look at what you are commenting on, then write down comments and continue "responding spot-on" to the "first watch ever". try to respond spontaneously and not keep reading from a board...

correct
I think Stevie Ray Vaughans death was also an inspiration for the song

@@musicmaniac6124 Incorrect, it was about his son.
@@musicmaniac6124No it was not!
😊😎🎸🇺🇦🇬🇧
How he managed to get through the performance is bewildering.
Beautiful song
Beautiful tribute to his little boy
Equally beautiful reaction❤😊
I'm surprised he was able to play it live.
I believe he's stopped playing it now.
This is such a beautiful song. It brings tears to my eyes every time.
I'm not crying, there's something in my eye. lol, it's a beautiful song! Thank-you so much ladies!
The movie is called Rush. Jason Patrick and Jennifer Jason Leigh play undercover drug agents who become addicts
Eric wrote this song as therapy after losing his 4 year old son. He said it helped him deal with his loss.
A very beautiful song, sadly on a tragedy in his own life, I’ve never been a parent, but I love Eric Clapton, a true legend
Written about his young son Conner who died falling out an apartment window

The movie they used this song in is called Rush from 1991.
Thanks for the reaction, ladies. Glad you enjoyed this sad, but wonderful, song.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@KathyLuluandDonnawell I did request it. 😊

This song is ❤ Wrenching.
It's always so hard to listen to it.
So sad for his loss 😢
6:23 Lulu is fighting it. 😊 Almost lost the battle. It's hard not to. Especially when you know the story behind the song. (Why he wrote it)

Check out Clapton in the 1970's decade. Some of his best hits.

A beautiful song, I agree. But the story behind the song will rip your heart out. I agree Donna, I don't know how he was able to sing this song.
Rush is a terrific movie, you should watch it.
My Mom died. February 16 2024. I really want to just have a little time with her.

Please know that the pain will step back and you will be able to smile at the memories. Wish you peace and ease.

If you realized that it meant, his 8 years old son dies, would that have made it different?
Just a thought.
All the best.
Cheers.

He has a fantastic voice . If you get the chance to listen to cocaine. Thank you. ❤❤😊
Oh. Was played and my baby son’s funeral. Hard to listen to.
I am so sorry. It was so terrible losing my wife, but I can imagine the pain burying your child. God bless you.
I’m sorry to hear that. Yes it’s hard losing anyone. I hope you’re coping.
How you didn't cry to this one (when someone died) but did to monsters (when he lived) come on now lol
