Nice understanding, Aaliyah. It is difficult to create such a free-flowing, happy-sounding song about a state that can be frustrating or distressing (running on empty). The fact that Jackson Browne was able to do so, and so effectively, is a tribute to his talent. Thanks for the reaction!
The female harmony voice you hear is Rosemary Butler, who has the ability to blow the headphones right off your head. As many have suggested you do The Load-Out/Stay, you will hear her at full power, especially if you do the live BBC version.
That summer of 77 when this album came out was a wonderful time for music. Loved David’s playing on this and miss him so much. I suggest The Loadout/Stay live performance. Pay attention to David Lindley’s lap steel playing and falsetto voice.
Yep, that's an iconic voice that Jackson has. He sounds exactly the same way live as he does on his records. No auto tune here! Jackson's ability as a singer-songwriter is legend. His storytelling makes you see and feel what he is singing about - mostly human emotion - and I should know, I've seen him 17 times in concert!
Aaliyah, great reaction. Jackson Browne is a wonderful musician and songwriter. He has been doing this since he was 17 years old. Music is a journey and there is no destination, it is the soundtrack of our lives. I love how you have the ability to appreciate all genres because it is like a spider web 🕸️ it’s all connected. You are a wonderful soul. Thank you for all your hard work.
He’s one of my favorite songwriters, and the eternal fight between living for love or survival is a recurring theme in his songs. The Pretender is another example. He has a deep catalog worth exploring. As an untrained music lover, I really enjoy your musically informed reactions, especially to some of my favorites. ✌️❤️🎶
For a Dancer, In the Shape of a Heart, These Days, and Your Bright Baby Blues. And about 50 more. Saw him in 1978 or so for the first time, saw him many times after including last year.
Great classic song! Jackson Browne and Bob Seger are two of the best motorcycle lyricists. Try "Doctor My Eyes" and "Call It a Loan" for my other two favs of his.
“Look around for the friends that I used to turn too to pull me through, Looking into their eyes I see them running too” When you realize that the world isn’t just about yourself.
At 2:29 they eyes raise because.... here's the harmony! For me, this time listening to this old, well known favourite THAT is the highlight. This is why Aaliyah can enjoy a song without a video, because she is a musician who can actually hear with her ears - without having to see moving pictures. I'm late, I almost missed this one but I just had to say it!
One of the Greatest Songs Ever. And Trust Me Aaliyah. The Older you get. The More it means to You. You can interpret it many ways. For Me. It's About Memories and Years Going by Quicker the Older you get (Which they Do)
This is from his album Running On Empty. A lot of the songs are about the life of a musician on the road. Some were recorded live at a show, some in hotel rooms, and at least one was recorded on the tour bus. One of my favorite albums.
it's kind of funny that the album with the title song about working hard, traveling, playing crappy gigs was the album that really put him into the big time
Rock Me on the Water - from his first album... a thoughtfull, soulful effort, he was so young when he wrote it in the early 70's ... he was a little over 20 years old... the lyrics and the narrative still hold truth today...
To those who know, there is no difference between Jackson in the studio, and on stage. Many of his best, and cleanest performances, suddenly are followed by applause.
You pegged it not easy to express these feelings through a song, your an awesome soul,I love your humility and desire for learning and growing, Jackson Brown is great a writer and singer, check out "Doctor my eyes" is another great song
Hit song in 1980. Written by Jackson Browne. He used to be the neighbor of The Eagles. They used to live in Topanga Canyon in the 1970s. Browne and the late Glenn Frey wrote Take It Easy. They, Bob Seger, late JD Souther and Don Henley wrote Heartache Tonight. Both were hit songs for The Eagles. Warning ⚠️ The Eagles especially Don Henley are notorious for takedowns of their audio and videos. The sane with other clients of Irving Azoff. Rick Beato, Leland Sklar and Wings of Pegasus had some of their videos taken down because of them. Suggested video 📹: Jackson Browne sings Somebody's Baby 👶 1982 performance version.
Aaliyah, I absolutely love that you have discovered Jackson Browne. He is one of my all time favorite artists and songwriters. His ability to touch you through his words and music is so powerful. I would highly recommend The Pretender, For a Dancer, Late for the Sky, and These Days. There is a great live performance of The Pretender here th-cam.com/video/xowaOsutxA4/w-d-xo.html.
Aaliyah, this was the opening track to Jackson's album by the same name. It was, for lack of a better explanation a musical documentary of a concert tour. It contains tracks written on the tour bus, in hotel rooms etc. interspersed with live tracks from the tour they were documenting. For perspective look up a review for the album. There are some real hidden treasures on the album that most don't get to hear due to our current predilection for hit and gratification.
Back when this came out the baby boomers were feeling like this. After the 60's, after Vietnam, after Nixon and after the Beatles the boomers felt kind of emptied out. Hence, running on empty.
I’d like to hear your take on a sadly neglected sleeper from that era: “Farewell Song” on the album “Live at Winterland ‘68” by Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin. - -
Watch the live version recorded with the original performers, late 1970’s. The guitar is a lap guitar played by David Lindley. Awesome player. The whole band is top notch. And great song writing by JB! th-cam.com/video/V4Q-447zVPY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=v1532hBQwzsaFlyH
I don' think you have reacted to Stevie Ray Vaughan, especially to his "Texas Flood" live at the El Mocambo. You will not see a better guitar solo and good straight 12-bar blues. And Stevie has a very cool voice as well.
He wrote a song that was made famous by the Eagles called take it easy. Please review that one. You're great I love your reactions. Take care and all the best.
This whole album is basically about life on the road...its challenges and everything it entails.
I’m 65 years old and have always like Jackson Browne’s music. I’ll suggest one song, my favorite of his which is called “Doctor My Eyes”
@@michaeldezego340 one of the first one of his songs I ever heard - PS I’m 61 so not so far behind you
I passed a car yesterday that had a license plate that read; DR MY IS that I took to mean Doctor My Eyes…
How about In the Shape of a Heart? Side note, he wrote it when he was 16
Loved this in high school and it takes on more and more meaning every year that I get older. Never get tired of hearing it..
As you age these lyrics become so prophetic. It is a simple song but truly one of the best ever written.
Always loved this song. Another one by him I love is Doctor My Eyes, very meaningful lyrics to that one as well. Such a talented guy.
Great music. Your smile says it all
The songs that take me back where I get an old 70s trucks and drive
Great reaction! After this introduction to Jackson, time for his performance of The Load Out/Stay live on BBC from 1978.
Yup 👍 - I was just playing that - my favorite Jackson Browne Song.

15 when released on vinyl and 8-track yes I had the best of played a lot in my 1968 Ford Fairlane 500
Jackson Browne is a wonderful songwriter. 'Great lyricist.
Such a beautiful genuine smile while analyzing the talents 'most' of the artists have
One of the finest Songwriter/poets of the 20th century. May I suggest his song "For A Dancer"
New to me, and I enjoyed it. He has a great voice. Hope to hear more. Enjoyed your analysis and, as always, great reaction. 😊

Clarity, and wisdom. Jackson Browne is a treasure. 🤘🕊❤️🤘 for ANY nation
Wonderful slide playing from the late great David Lindley
For a Dancer, In the Shape of a Heart, These Days, and Your Bright Baby Blues. And about 50 more. Saw him in 1978 or so for the first time, saw him many times after including last year.
Songs about life and a perspective of moving through time, I was a teenager when he release this album
Great classic song! Jackson Browne and Bob Seger are two of the best motorcycle lyricists. Try "Doctor My Eyes" and "Call It a Loan" for my other two favs of his.
“Look around for the friends that I used to turn too to pull me through, Looking into their eyes I see them running too”
When you realize that the world isn’t just about yourself.
Superb song. Great for long highway drives. Fantastic analysis as usual ✅

I'm late, I almost missed this one but I just had to say it!
He is still performing and releasing records .We have all his records
The guitarist is David Lyndley. A great artist in his own right
It should be Danny Kortchmar on guitar.
Lindley plays Lap Steel Guitar on most tracks with Browne.
Jackson Browne is one of the great troubadours of the rock era.
Jackson Browne had so many ladies that fell in love with him. I had all his albums. Brings back my days in military school
You have to hear his dedication to his roadies The two songs in one The Load Out/Stay. It's a Must hear
Thanks for sharing💕
I think the analogy is of a truck driver out on the road, but also... just LIFE. he's had it with all the hassles of life.
One of the Greatest Songs Ever. And Trust Me Aaliyah. The Older you get. The More it means to You. You can interpret it many ways. For Me. It's About Memories and Years Going by Quicker the Older you get (Which they Do)
Like Against the Wind and Roll Me Away by Bob Seger.
@@laurakali6522 Absolutely 💯Agree

Cara Aaliyah, sei meravigliosa!😍💞 Amo così tanto i tuoi video 🫶
I'm sure you'll appreciate the vocals in "Stay".
Funny how a song called "Running On Empty" gets me up and energized to dance! At age 60!
To those who know, there is no difference between Jackson in the studio, and on stage. Many of his best, and cleanest performances, suddenly are followed by applause.
Hi beautiful cool song running on empty sounds like my 1968 Ford Fairlane 500 I had back in 1978 when 16 lol heard all over radio when teen
The guy playing that distinctive steel guitar, David Lindley, passed away last year
RIP Mr Dave
Brown is one of the all time great lyricists. Check out -Sky Blue & Black.
Wonderful that younger people like older rock music, glad it still lives on
His writing is so meaningful. I suggest "The Pretender". Delightful reaction.🤘😎❤
I've been a fan since I was in middle school in the early 80s. The Pretender album and song are incredible.
Beautiful 😍
Such great songwriting.
*Super great song of its time*
Aaliyah, love your beautiful smile!
You pegged it not easy to express these feelings through a song, your an awesome soul,I love your humility and desire for learning and growing, Jackson Brown is great a writer and singer, check out "Doctor my eyes" is another great song
What a nice smile this young lady has. It makes me a little bit happy to see it. There's a lot of JB music to discover.
Wonderful reaction - great song - love it. You need to check out The Load Out and Stay. Maybe my favorite song 🎶
You should try his song " The Load-out/Stay" . It tell about what the fans never get to see.
do the load out/stay live please.

Somebody's Baby is another classic Jackson Browne song...
the load out/stay is mandatory

read the lyrics then listen to jackson browne's lives in the balance !
Used to look to my friends to pull me through, look into their eyes i see them running to
He was also the one playing the piano.
Lord, you're too damn cute. God bless!!!

What he said (can't find the up arrow)

Try " The Load Out/Stay " next
RIP David Lindley(JB's longtime guitarist)

Rosemary Butler.
22 million seems like a very conservative estimate...
