Regarding toilet paper. I used to work for a cleaning company. We had to change toilet paper, and paper towel rolls once they got to 1/4 or less. After putting in a fresh roll, i didn't have the heart to throw so much usable product away. So i kept it. I was allowed to, so there was no problem. So after 2 years of taking home so many rolls of TP, my wife and I had no problems when the shortages hit the US. In fact, we discreetly gave away some surplus to friends and family. In the end, we used up the last roll of TP I took home from work in mid 2022. By then, I was working somewhere else. It sucked having to buy TP once again.

i remember laughing at americans for hoarding toilet paper then few days later seeing on news my country people did the same lol

Fun fact: The reason people often call president of Australia CEO is because, technically, due to certain weird investment grab attempts made after Black Thursday Australia is a company

  • @NuclearWinter69

The news manufactured the tp shortage. I was literally standing in the warehouse looking at tp stacked to the 30 foot ceiling laughing with the employees. They said there was enough to supply the country for 5 years without making anymore.

The toilet paper thing was so stupid here in finland. A sizable chunk of our whole economy is forestry and paper products, and still people hoarded the paper. The paper makers just increased their shift amounts and ran the machines day and night

  • @wittyreviewer

Unironically, it is quite incredible how quickly nature reasserts itself when people aren't around to prevent it.

There was a guy who bought like a truck load of toilet paper, and for some reason tried to give it back but the store denied him, he was stuck with it

It was crazy but I hardly noticed it because it wasn't as bad in germany and I mostly buy the big economy packs so I had enough toilet paper even before the pandemic... When the war started in Ukraine there was a cooking oil shortage that was the worst part the prices went through the roof just for sunflower oil and fryer oil 1 per person and almost €6 for a liter....

This whole situation made my realise just how close the modern civilisation is to complete anarchy. A slight delay in the delivery of toilet paper and people are literally throwing fists and pulling weapons.

Lets be honest, they didn't need to leave those pages blank. If you've gone to using magazine pages you don't give a shit about the pretty pictures.

As someone who works in logistics and shipping, and has an IQ not at Alaskan room temperature, the whole toilet paper crisis made me simultaneously laugh my ass off at how stupid people were and hate humanity with HOW LONG IT LASTED! I thought it'd take maybe a few days before people realized how dumb bulk buying toilet paper was, but that shit went on for WEEKS!

Pro tip:The old farmer’s almanac printed here in the USA has a hole in the top corner of the pages as when it was written in the colonial era it was used as TP in outhouses. So next time you’re at the the grocery store and see one, pick one up just in case

Give a man a toilet paper, and he is clean for a day. Give a man a bidet, and he is clean for a lifetime.

I work at a grocery store and it was so infuriating people either try to mass buy toilet paper or having my family members try to guilt trip me to buy more than what was needed. Had to help escort a pallet of TP and personally hand out 1 pack person so people got what they needed.

  • @sugoistalin7809

As someone who has used a bidet for over a decade, i felt like a god when the whole toilet paper shit happened.

What is also hilarious about the tp shortage was that it had happened in US history once before. During the gas shortage of 70s(people lining up for limited gas, only allowed gas on certain days of the week depending on your license number...tons of crappy stuff) Johnny Carson decided to make a joke on the Late Show. He joked that about there now being a toilet paper shortage to go along with the gas shortage. People went nuts not understanding it was just a joke and caused an artificial shortage just like during covid.

  • @quietrioter

The mass hysteria thing has always made me laugh. Before the varus, when Hurricane Harvey hit, the media, and some of my neighbors were going around saying there was gonna be a gas shortage. The oil refinery is in Houston, and they were told that they couldn't take the hit of the hurricane

As someone who’s been in rural agricultural communities during COVID, I can confirm that the virus hit farmers and ranchers hard. I’ve had my uncle have to sell his already struggling traditional family farm (which had suffered from a previous damage from a wildfire and competition from larger producers) just to make ends meet in mid 2021.
