Oenology: The study of fine wine. I only know this because of star wars the old republic. One of the characters was described as an Oenophile and I had no idea what that was so I looked it up.

Wine is such a dumb “fancy” thing. I live in an area that has a LOT of vineyards around and every town has their local vineyards wine for sale. My brother flew out to a business meeting in Texas and during the big ending dinner at a steak house, they were selling a bottle of wine for like 200 bucks because it was a “high end” bottle. One the big bosses liked it and wanted to buy a few bottles but didn’t want to drop a grand on wine. My brother took one look at the bottle and laughed because it was one of the wines that’s made near us. In the grocery stores it’s like $15-$20 a bottle where we live. He told his boss if he wanted he could get him a crate (like 15 bottles) of that wine for the same price as 1 bottle there. His boss tells him to go for it and send him the receipt when he sends it. Sure enough my brother gets back from Texas and we go to the store and buy the wine. It comes out to like 180ish bucks and we ship it to his boss. He got a call a week or so later and his boss is just dying laughing saying that anytime he needs more wine he’s just gonna send my brother the cash and have him send him more crates of it.

I think there is a general rule about which wines pair with which food. Not so much a based on the brand, but more the general flavor profile. Like reds tend to be a little more "peppery", so pair better with red meat. Whites have a more citrusy and grassy profile, so pair better with chicken and fish dishes.

I love the fact that as someone who is interested in wine my favorite happens to be sangria, which wine snobs tend to be super judgemental about. The best part is I'm also Basque which is a region in France and Spain that's known for making some of the best wine and I had my first glass when I was 5.

I do gotta agree that the superior wine is from $20-$40. However because I’m poor I’ve been drinking boxed wine willingly for the past year and honestly it’s not that bad. Definitely wish I could afford a $14 Malbec but right now that’s pretty pricey.
