Wow Aaron, you’re the first person I’ve seen to test Cinebench R23 on the new MacBook Pros! Thank you for that. Everybody’s using Cinebench 2024 but something about R23 is so satisfying to watch when you have really fast CPUs just making the rounds filling those squares up as fast as possible. And now I have a point of comparison to my other computers which I’ve tested with R23. Anyway small thing maybe but wanted to say thanks!

Back in my late teens and early twenties I was all for the 13” laptop size but since I work more I’m all for the 16” as its just way more efficient for me and easier on my eyes. I usually have my laptop connected to a 34” ultra wide monitor but love the larger screen on a laptop to have anything extra I need to be on that screen. I’m planning on getting the new MacBook Pro 16” m3 max as that will suit me for a very long time again. Thank you for this awesome video as this really helpful in my decision.

Thanks for the comparison, however the blender section was flawed. You set preferences for metal with ray tracing on but you rendered with the CPU and not the GPU. I know this because the 3:27 on the max is way to slow. My M2 Max rendered the classroom scene on the GPU without RT at 45 seconds. Could you re-render with RT both on and off with the GPU please. I am very interested in purchasing the M3 Max for blender if it's much faster than my M2.

I still have my M1 Macbook Air which i don’t think i ever need to upgrade from, came out in late 2020 and is still a beast! For such a thin, light mac with no fan!
Most people don't need more than that. It's a solid general purpose computer that can handle simple creative tasks with ease. My mother uses one for her office job away from the workplace and it handles everything she throws at it.
Going for the 14" model this year. Definitely bigger than the 12" MacBook I use currently. I did consider the 16" for a while but its not only much larger but also heavier, which isn't what I particularly want.

I love this channel. Was wondering if you have knowledge of what 5G Standalone is on iPhone. Noticed that it is now available on my iPhone 14 Pro Max on Verizon. There’s a new toggle to turn it on and off in addition to the normal LTE, 5G On, and 5G Auto
I leave it on auto, but it really depends on your area and if you have great 5G coverage for standalone or not. I like it to switch to LTE if 5G is not available.
Can you try Total War Warhammer 3 or Warhammer 2 which should be a good test for the M2 Pro or M3 Max

Hey perhaps you should re run the benchmarks with the 16 inch plugged in? Apparently it does make a difference this time around with the gpu like windows laptops, which is kind of disappointing but yeah it might get a nice bump in speed!
Apple has said it does not make a difference whatsoever whether it’s plugged in or not. People who have tested it either way so there’s no difference.

I wonder the increased read and write speeds on 16 inch model is because of the m3 max chip or 8 Tb storage.. Wondering what speed would be with 4 Tb storage

Yes, there is the XcodeBenchmark by devMEremenko that is relatively easy to run and widely recognized for comparing compiler speed of different Macs. The Readme contains a ton of reference data but so far M3 results are still missing. Thank you.
110 Degrees and it’s still cool for the M3 Max Chip? That’s pretty insane for a powerful chip and it’s super cool to the touch compared to intel based Macs. I love ur reviews Aaron! Hope I’ll see u talking about the upcoming M3 Ultra chip soon next year

If there is a specific reason such as video encode or decode of pro res then sure. Or if you use logic pro or something like that. If you are using it for just email, browsing the web and watching video I dont think you would see any gains.

Cinebench R23 is not optimised for Apple Silicon, Cinebench 2024 is the version to use.

@@zollotech The 14" M3 Pro sounds better than the 14" M2 pro despite looking identical. They must have tweaked the internals.

While I appreciate Apple bringing back the SD card slot a couple years ago, it is now outdated. Most high-end cameras use CF Express Type A or B cards. Which basically means that their card slot is useless.
Currently on an Intel Mac still (2018). Cant wait to get an M Series Mac, really just waiting on OS upgrade support to end. I suspect that is this year, would be surprised if Intel Macs get another Mac OS version release.
Im also on the 2018 model but has lost patience with it. Going with the m3 max next month lol. Won’t miss the extra heat and butterfly keyboard tbh.

Heck yeah that's what I was hoping to see. As it's the M1 Max that I'm currently typing on.
I did all the same tests in the M3 Pro video I did. You can see the scores and times there with M1 Max as well.
The Blender Test is wrong and still in CPU...you have to switch the Device to GPU in the Cycles Render Settings! And than it will be 10times faster 🙂

Looks like your Blender benchmark was CPU, not GPU. On the right render properties, Device is set to CPU, not GPU. System devices make a difference when GPU is selected. For reference my $350 GPU competes it in :45 seconds. edit: second watch shows CPU on benchmark start, GPU on benchmark end. No idea what results are from.
I bought one (almost top of the line) Max 16. How come YOU got one so quickly? Not fair.

Great video! But tbh "Space Black" doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be black. I think Apple knows that it'll never be able to properly anodize a black computer so it's never calling it "Black" outright. The space black name, even with iPhones and Apple Watches in the past, always seems like it's never reserved for true black but "the blackest we can get the material in question".

The blender test does’t sound right. I rendered classroom scene in 1 minute 37 seconds on my M1 Max.
$7k for a computer, in which a new model with come out within 6 months and this mode will be half the money. Ouch. We need upgradable laptops back. This is robbery

It shows the difference in processor performance in a simple way is all.
I've watched like 10 or 15 videos of those new Macbooks tests a not a single channel tested battery life 🔋. Same pointless tests on every single channel: Cinebench, Geekbench, disk speed test and sometimes Blender an maaaaybe export times. No real life usage tests, no low power vs high power tests, no Adobe benchmarks test, no multitasking tests, no browser speed tests, no compiling code tests, no LLM tests and I'll repeat it - no battery life tests. Copy and paste, rinse and repeat.

Apple makes great computers. They do, essentially almost everything. Value is another discussion but anyone looking for value is not buying Mac, or at least not the latest and top spec models. 8gb of unified memory and 256gb storage is still dissapointing on the low end "pro" macbook, IMO this config really only belongs on a sub $1k macbook air, but aside from that gimp and the kind of bad value for money pricing it creates, these machines are some of the best tools. If only Gaming was better on Mac, i would ditch windows probably entirely.

That’s typically due to import tariffs from your country as well as your current countries tax. In the United States even though it’s $7100, we still have tax on top of that price that you add once you check out. In the US tax is not included upfront. So the actual price where I live is about $7800, but it changes based on each state.
It's literally cheaper for you to book a flight to the US and buy it there. Just make sure you discard of or send the box home via post, and use the laptop a bit before bringing it home, so it's clearly "personal effects" and not an "import" for duty reasons. I have done this before when prices were similarly skewed between locations.

You almost made good testing with Blender, testing beta and all, but look closely at the panel on the right at 11:37 . The device selected is CPU😅. No wonder your viewport performance is poor.
I tried changing that around, and when I switch it to GPU, it’s barely even viewable. It doesn’t show hardly anything it takes forever to render.
@@zollotech it might be something with the beta version. But in the end you’re benchmarking the cpu, while you claim the opposite.
