During the few years it took to film Peter Jackson's _Lord of the Rings_ trilogy, the cast became so friendly that they started doing practical jokes on each other. OP in the story could easily be sued and would lose badly for that stunt. Even if the customer didn't know that it was OP, he could still sue the store, which would probably result in OP being fired even if the store didn't know and/or didn't throw him under the sueing bus.

Yeah... But HOAs sometimes appear on your doorstep even if your family already have lived there for decades.
Hire a lawyer and ask for restraining order. Put up security cameras, and file incident reports (everytime HOA came to visit) to the police so you'd have paper trail.
You might need to befriend cops and media so they'd take much interest in case something happens.

And OP could also get charged for damaging the phone and sued for the cost of unlocking and resesting the phone then further sued for the loss of any data that wasn't able to be retreaved like pics or videos. There's some knomiras (karens) who've recently moved into our area who are trying to start a "neighborhood association" and they're now harassing people, calling the cops on people, going up to people's fences and screaming at them, etc, because except for the two, no one's willing to sign their stupid petition for such an association. She even came to our house screaming she was going to sue us for mental anguish if we didn't sign and for "harassment" because we refused to take down the fence in our yard. We told her to bugger off.
The fence is actually a really nice, black, chain-link fence that blends in well with the area. There are lovely flowering lilacs along the fence and, in the evening, you can't see it at all. And it's fairly new so it looks really nice, too. To make sure I chose a color that neighbors would like, this was before the biddies moved into the neighborhood, I asked my nearest neighbors to help me pick a type and color that we all could agree on that they wouldn't mind seeing in the area. The reason for the fence was because I got a dog and my husband hates the idea of chaining a dog up when letting them out, so we fenced the yard instead so she could have lots of run room.
Once the neighbors and, and me and my husband, agreed on what the fence around my back yard would look like, we had it put up. Again, this was before the old biddies. Neighbors were not offended by it, because they helped pick it out, it looks nice, and my dog is safely kept in the yard.
But these old hags want a bylaw where there are "no fences." Yeesh.

Story 1 - In my personal experience in working fast food, retail, security and more, it's always TP dispenser that people leave their phone on when it goes missing, my own phone included. In fact, that experience is why I've never lost my phone outside my house because I either remember to check the TP (or in one case towel) dispenser as I'm leaving or a few steps after checking my pickets. Working security in particular, I've saved so many phones doing this, and in one case, I even recognized the phone and gave it back to said employee.
Always pay it forward, and save your fellow co-workers and such from this embarrassment... unless you're enacting revenge. In that case, have at it, but only if you're sure that it's your target's phone.

That third Story, the father of the OP is a spineless weak POS!
She literally said that her father was the owner of the house, yet she can be thrown out by the wife why? If a police officer said that that's bull! Just because you've got some platypus hippopotamus sitting on your couch giving out orders doesn't mean those orders have to be followed if hers is not the name on the freaking title deed.
So I don't think it was the cop that said that I think it was the father said that the police told him that his daughter had to leave because he didn't have the balls nor the spine to stand up for his own daughter in the face of literally a hippopotamus! And that disgust me because then,
( and in the next paragraph or two), you see the mental breakdown and all the dreams of OPs youth, Psychology, Vet, Teacher, Counselor, etc.,HELL EVEN GOING TO A BETTER SCHOOL, INCLUDING ONES SHE HAD SCHOLARSHIPS TO.....
HER DREAMS WERE LITERALLY RIPPED FROM HER AND THEN TRAMPLED UPON GLEEFULLY BY A STEP-MONSTER..(PERSONALLY, I THINK THE STEP-BITCH IS A SITH LORD!!😂😂).
BUT SERIOUSLY, THOSE SCUMBAGS LET THOSE DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS ROT AWAY..BECAUSE GOD FORBID SHE BECOMES SOMETHING SUPERIOR TO THE DISGUSTING VILE THING HER STEP-NAZI HAS ALWAYS BEEN...
    AS FOR "HER FATHER"
"THAT MAN" (WHICH IS HOW SHE SHOULD ADRESS HER SPERM DONOR), ISN'T EVEN WORTH THE TIME, THE TITLE, ANY AFTER THOUGHTS , ETC.
HELL...THAT USELESS Sack of DNA and shit isn't even worth the O² (oxygen) that is wasted by his mere existence! Let alone that mouth breathing TROGLODYTE HE CALLS A "WIFE"!!!
BUT I DIGRESS...all the potential that could have been just get flushed down the effing toilet..
I MEAN YES, the OP MADE something of herself but what did she lose? WHAT did she lose of HER soul ? HER abilities? HER own mental health AND physical health? HOW MUCH did she lose?
THOSE THINGS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO QUANTIFY..BUT I GUARANTEE YOU, SHE LOST PARTS OF HER THAT SHE CAN NEVER GET BACK...AND SHE ALSO LOST TIME..WHICH IS THE MOST TRAGIC THING OF ALL...
TIME IS IRREPLACEABLE..AND THOSE BASTARDS...THAT FILTHY HAG OF A WOMAN BEING THE FIRST AND FOREMOST OF OP's ANTAGONISTS , LITERALLY ROBBED HER. THEY STOLE SOMETHING PRICELESS FROM AN INNOCENT....IF LIFE WAS TRULY FAIR, THEY WOULD BE CHARGED WITH BREAKING AND ENTERING, STRONG ARM ROBBERY, GRAND THEFT,
TRESPASSING, VANDALISM, AND THEN CHARGED WITH PRE-MEDITATED MURDER IN THE FIRST.
They broke into her mind into her psyche they stole time from her they colluded against her they stole her dreams her aspirations they trespassed all over her privacy and borders they gave her no chance and when she tried to stand up to them they strong-armed her and last but not least they killed her dreams and her Ambitions they murdered her literally they did crimes they should pay for them but they won't but this disgusts me. I'm glad that the OP found some semblance of a life and was able to hold it all together because the greatest revenge is living well and I hope she never has contact with them ever again I hope she sees that she does not need to speak to that bag of crap who doesn't deserve to be called the father because he is no father he's a sperm donor and a bad one at that.

Story 2 - I used to fly every week for work prepandemic. Karens were the bane of the business travelers' existence at the airport! I can't tell you how many times I've had bins nearly snatched out of my hands as I was putting my stuff in it, because "I need it more than you, you can go over yonder to get another". Or how abusive they were to the employees in general, and especially when their travel is disrupted. I have so many stories.....
My favorite story happened while we were stuck waiting for a flat tire to be replaced on our plane. They had a hard time finding the correct tire, as it wasn't the airline's home airport. They had us move gates halfway down the terminal because they thought they had a replacement plane, then sent us back when they found out they didn't. I watched as so many casual travelers went up to the gate agents and yelled at them for the delay. I felt so bad for them. As the delay reached 3 hours, I went to the desk and asked if there was an ETD yet. When they said no, said "that's too bad, I hope they find a tire soon", then I asked if I could get a meal voucher. They printed one for me, and I kindly said thank you. Just as I was about to tell the group I was chatting with about the voucher, the gate agent announced that they were authorizing meal vouchers for everyone and how to scan their tickets to print on out at the kiosks. The amount they gave me was twice the amount everyone else got. Nice matters!

My HOA once sent a groundskeeping crew into the neighborhood to handle "too many leaves in the yard" violations. In February. With 2-1/2 inches of snow on the ground. I figured out what was happening when some dude with a LOUD gas-powered blower was on my front porch "because it's the only place with any leaves showing at all." I called the management company and, after a few moments of having to convince the woman I spoke with that this wasn't a joke, was asked to please hold... a few minutes later, the leaf blowers all stopped, and a couple of minutes after that the woman got back on the line with me and apologized for what she said was one of the stupidest things her employer had ever done. :-)

HOA story: Fines are due within 2 weeks, but appeals must be brought to the board meeting that only occurs once a year. So if you get fined the day after the meeting (or is 2 weeks and a day ahead of the next one), you don't have the ability to appeal. If the company planned out their fine deliveries right and avoided that 2 week window, they could ensure none of them are appealable. Either way, I'm claiming illegal, the whole taxation-without-representation spiel the American Revolution was all about.

My husband is the president of our HOA and rules about flower colors, and trash can distances do not exist. He is mostly dealing with inflation and maintenance and repair issues. You do have to get your house color approved if you want to repaint it, and yes, it has to be in somewhat neutral colors. But that rule is set by the bigger community HOA, of which we are just a part.
