      Hasbro should be ashamed that others companies (smaller than them) are not only engineering better products but bringing brands of the past to the present.

      @@edwinsmith-jones6205 I agree with you about Hasbro not developing fresh concepts for a new generation of children, but that is more a problem with a creatively bankrupt society when it comes all related to the entertainment industry (movies, comics, video games, music, toys, etc.).
      Now, taking with good faith your: "relying on decades old I.P. middle-aged men's nostalgia." Star Wars is an intelectual property that as well as Marvel, DC & Transformers is making new content every now and then, so Hasbro like a company that is, is going to capitalize going for olds fans and new fans of any gender [since Grogu, more females are interested in ST] having said that my comment criticizing Hasbro and agreeing with @manko8852, is that small companies like Stan Solo & Paleetoys (the one in this video) are making better products (design, quality, imagination, etc.) than one of the biggest toy company in the world in lacking in not only engineering better products but bringing brands of the past to the present, to us the consumer (middle age, teen, children, women, old people, etc.).

    I'd love to see someone do something like this for sets that would interact with modern figures, say for example, Jabba's Droid Dungeon, with a space to put POTF2 EV-9D9's datapad / desk and U-8D8's branding iron. Or maybe an Echo Base Medbay, with places for the POTJ Deluxe Luke Bacta Tank parts and FX-7. But that's just me, pipe-dreaming.

    • @jpatt1000
      @jpatt1000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Or since it's on paperboard, a three sided Echo Base large enough for the Falcon and maybe a Snowspeeder or X-Wing. Vacform crates, walking platforms and the wedge looking hanger lights could be included to sprinkle around the ships. The med bay could have an appropriate doorway to align with the hanger! (Could even have a clear plastic tube with a vac-formed cap and base for the bacta tank in the medbay.) Anything in Jabba's palace would be cool too.

    Dave, I LOVE what Lee has done here! It really has a very nice, professional, retro feel to it that captures the spirit of what Palitoy was doing back in the day!
    That said, I think that THIS is an opportunity for you and your channel. The only major weakness (that I can see) to this playset is the flimsy nature of the cardboard. It's just not sturdy enough, IMO, and I'd love to see you make a background out of two pieces of styrene. You could cut on a doorway, build some consoles to attach to the wall, add some greebles and paint something up! It would be a very interesting video for viewers because it would show how you could improve on an already amazing product, and people at home could actually modify their own based on what you come up with. I know that there's nothing particularly wrong with what Paleetoy has done here. It's not broken, and it is good enough, but there's also nothing wrong with going the extra mile either. It's just an idea. I know for a fact that I'd love to see you take on something like this in a future video. Even though you're not a customizing channel, I don't think it would hurt to modify and improve existing toys sometimes, especially if you have the ability, materials and know-hot to do it. I think it could be a lot of fun. I hope you'll consider doing something like that in the future.
    Regardless, thank you for showing us this great new product! I would have bought one, but they were already sold out by the time I visited the site! Keep up the great videos!

    Nice diorama set, this kind of idea shows how creatively bankrupt companies like Hasbro are, imagine how much money they would be making if they came up with this concept first. If Paleetoys wants, he can do this kind of thing for vintage G.I. Joe or Kenner Super Powers.

    • @subraxas
      @subraxas ปีที่แล้ว +4

      But the thing is that Hasbro does produce this kind of dioramas for Star Wars; they only use much more plastic in them rather than cardboard, and therefore stylistically they come across as different. Recent examples would be the Nevarro Cantina, Endor Bunker, or Tantive IV Hallway.

    • @kingvagar
      @kingvagar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@subraxas I know Hasbro makes diaromas for the vintage line, but like you said, they use more plastic... the ones presented here use little plastic and have cardboard to complement the set, not just making it feel like a 70s or 80s toy but making it much cheaper for the consumer. Parents then can buy a playing set without spending big bucks if Hasbro decided to make them.

    • @kingvagar
      @kingvagar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Boyer316 Yes they are hard to find and if you do find one they cost an arm... Solo movie for small space display purposes they are good. Just as well as the one presented here in this video.
      And if a small company like the one Toy features here can make them. Imagine Hasbro, which is a big company, they can make them available and would cost less than the plastic diorama they have for the vintage line, as well as make them feel like they belong with the original toys... thus my original comment.

    Think the only playsets I picked up as an adult were the detention block rescue set which Woolworths just couldn't shift and ecentually marked it down to about £4.99. And the other I got was the cardboard Jabba's throne room. The good thing about these cheap sets is that they do the job of giving displayed figures an interesting backdrop that represents the set from the movie. Doesn't need to be 100% lifelike, as the figures aren't 100% accurate to the actors.

      And that is why the cardboard sets made at the time are so hard to find today. Many kids destroyed them.

    NGL as amazing as this is, the use of English wording instead of Galactic Aurebesh does kind of bum me out. IDK perhaps old Palitoy sets all did that?

    It's not a playset, since it doesn't have any action features. This is called a diorama.
    But I do love it!! 🙂 ❤

      playset
      noun
      "A themed collection of similar toys designed to work together to enact some action or event."
      Action features are not required for a playset. The main difference between a playset and a diorama is that a diorama is not intended to be played with. This set is, and it emulates the adventure playsets Kenner released in the 1980s.

    This looks amazing! But "Paleetoys" is looking to get themselves a C&D by copying Hasbro and Star Wars branding so closely. This could easily pass for an official toy release and according to Hasbro and The Mouse anything that could be confused with an official toy is a big "no-no."

    Like the set but not a big fan of the figures displayed on the cardboard background.

      Take a look at some of the old playsets and you will see exactly the same thing done there.

      Please let me know when you have your own set made and for sale. A lot of work goes into something like this and they are produced in limited numbers. I understand they are not for everyone, but lots of people will be very happy to have them. Cheers

    Let’s be honest it’s a diorama or a display set looks cool but not much play value

      @Rocket1377 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is plenty of play value in this set, you just need a little imagination, and some figures.
