    The Death Star Space Station is still the gold standard of playsets. It encompases the ability for any kid to recreate everything that happens in the film. Yet is scale is perfect to add some "new" stories as well. I was lucky to get on one back in 1979 and played with it non stop - of course it didn't survive . Thankfully with being an adult collector with over 2 decades of collecting in now, I have many of these. I have one complete, in pristine condition in the box and I have at least 4 complete (minus rope, foam and dianoga), along with a few that are about 80% complete. it is so much fun to build several of these and put them together. I belive it takes either 9 of them to complete a full circle if they are placed next to each other. It looks like like a super Terrordrome when it is done.

    I loved my Death Star playset! As kid I thought it was too big to be a space station.. 😂 lol. I used it to play as Bespin City mostly because they never made a playset of that. Removed trash compactor, trap door, and the hole was the carbon freeze chamber 🙌😁. The diecast set would have been perfect if it was enlarged for 3 3/4" figures.

I consider both you and Phil friends whom I met through collecting. I loved my Death Star playset set in 1978 and I love the Death Star playset I got last year but I'm still looking for the rope! DAN! - LOL Joey's awesome and this time around, he knocked it out of the park! Huh? The rope is a hard one to find on its own. My OG piece is still also missing it. The gun fix though was something that took me years to figure out. I'm glad it's on film now for everyone to reference. - On that note, great show Joey! I wish you lots of luck on the rest of your run! This will stand the test of time as a good reference for collectors building and reassembling playsets from the Kenner line. I'll certainly continue to watch and cheer you on buddy. You got a winner with the playset you bought! Congrats!

    Frankly, I like the look of the cardboard one better than the plastic one. The plastic one is super awesome though and would also be cool to have. The cardboard one has tons of great looking stickers and art on it that really brings the toy to life. I never had either one as a kid, but I still played that my figures were exploring the Death Star by using old milk crates, tin foil, packing material, and diorama pictures that I drew myself. I wish that I still had pictures of the homemade playsets that I built as a kid. Man, was that fun to do! As cool as it would have been to have the official playsets, I had a lot of fun designing and building my own.
    This video is amazing! You did a great job explaining how to clean and build the official playset and have some great info on the toy itself. It's great how viewers are helping you out with sending you stuff to give away, or in this case, parts you needed for this playset! The collector community is so cool sometimes.
    I'd love to have even just the trash compactor part. That would be fun to mess around with.

      @thepadawancollectorofficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey John! I think that homemade playsets like the one you created are honestly THEE best way for kids to play with the toys! @@thepadawancollectorofficial It was great. There is a good story that I saw at that Celebration. There was a crowd gathering around a dealer's booth and it was because a guy was going to buy a MISB Sears Cantina Adventure Set. Problem was that it was only $80 and therefore he wanted it to be open to see if everything was there, including the Blue Snag. After a while the seller, said: "I am not the owner, I'm just watching the booth for him. He is at a panel so let me call him to see what he says". Calls him and then says: "I'm sorry, it's not $80 but $800! So, the buyer left empty handed. Funny thing is that everybody around him kept telling him to buy it for $80 and take the risk because even without the Blue Snag it was a great deal.

      @@thepadawancollectorofficial Thanks for follow-up. I have gone to TC's Rockets and Toy Addicts (La Mesa) and have bought from both, those are the only local stores. Most of my original Vintage collection was completed awhile, so now mostly buy the new Hasbro The Vintage Collection items (3 3/4" only, not 6"). Any older vintage items though I look at my FB groups, figure conventions (SoCal Joe Show & Toy Convention has had SW as well), etc

      @@thepadawancollectorofficial thanks I really enjoyed seeing a spiffed up clean version - I let my son unbox and gently play with my Death Star playset once when he was younger but he’s like your typical 14 year old now all online gaming and apple too - sadly not many toy playing days like our youths

  • @Tr0nzoid
    @Tr0nzoid 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The inflation comparisons that people tend to make are not quite relevant. A $17 toy playset packed with play features like this was not perceived as expensive as an $85 one would be now. It would have been seen as a decent value, but the mindset of most parents and even kids back then was to consider something big like this as a birthday or Christmas present.

  • @acrodave9287
    @acrodave9287 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Blame Canada🎶Blame Canada🎶😂 Sorry, but I still think the Palitoy version has better play value. Most of the scenes set on the Death Star show the Hero group running and hiding, the Kenner version, though very cool, is too open plan to allow for this. There are plenty of opportunities to hide and move figures around in the Palitoy version, I had mine on top of a swivel seat barstool so I could play with it 'in the round' and you could have figures in one part of the set, and other figures in another part with no line of sight between them!
    Of course, that's just my entirely subjective, personal opinion.
    But I'm right...😂🤣👍🍻

    Don't full inset the gun inside its slot when displaying. That catch on the bottom is infamous for breaking under the stress of keeping the gun locked in place. This is why yours was probably broken. The previous owner probably kept it locked down. It should sit in place without having to snap it in place.
