The Kenner Death Star is probably the coolest playset I never had. I never even got to play with it more than a few times at someone else's house, but I loved it.
This year was the 44th anniversary of not getting this for Christmas thanks to a friend. I accidentally saw it after my parents bought it and I happened to say something to him about it. He shot his mouth off to my mom and she took it back to the store.
My childhood one came from a family friend who out grew it. Loved it!! It didn’t have instructions so my six year old self had to figure out how to put it together.
Man I remember the rope. Looked kinda goofy with Luke just hanging there. Vaguely remember an accessory hook on a belt from a mail away that seemed like a revision.
When it comes to value, I realised that I value my old and heavily used toys more than buying anything vintage from the market. They are a great memory and were made to play with! I couldn’t afford the Death Star at that time, but played with it at a friend’s house...can’t remember there was a rope with it, but if we never used it...that playset was full of fun, can’t think of wasting our time hanging on the rope;) we always jumped the bridge and could just make it to the other side without the rope...next one maybe cantina set or x-wing, since there were also distinct palitoy and Kenner versions...cheers
I was watching one on ebay recently. Complete, stickers unaplied but with original sheets, no box. It went for $71 and thirty something for shipping. Still kicking myself in the pants not grabbing it
I find the majority of the playsets and ships somewhat reasonably priced sans the sealed criteria. It's when you get to the '85 Power of the Force line things get bonkers.
I think the "Battle Station" backdrop would look great at the base of the Death Star playset. Park the Falcon close to the backdrop, you got yourself a nice little scene. :) Thanks for the info. Thanks for the video.
OMG...I still have my original rope! Never thought I could part with any of my Star Wars toys, but wow...I think I can live without my rope for that price.
So cool that you and Mr. French did a video together! Though, how come Mr. French didn't talk in this one? I grew up during an odd time for collecting Star Wars toys. The toys were long gone from the stores, but they were still easy to find in theft stores and swap meets for super cheap prices. And I was the only kid in my neighborhood who had Star Wars toys too! I remember my dad was able to acquire a nearly complete Kenner Death Star playset. I remember it was missing the foam for the trash compacter and the rope and I think that was it. Anyway I only had it for a while and I think my dad sold it because "screw the kid I can resale this for more money then what I bought it for!" Wish I still had it considering how much this stuff sells for now!
Going value to me? Zero. When it comes to vintage, the stuff I had is worth more than whatever was available in other countries. I get why completists feel the need to own it, though. Also the hardest part to find is the trash compactor foam. who thought to keep that? NO ONE!
Say Junk ! ~ 😀👍 U ever get a hold of NE of The Mandalorian , Obi-Wan Kenobi Kenner-style artifacts in Hasbro's Retro Collection ? If so - did U ever review them ? Must've miss'd it ~ 😪
Its only worth what some one is willing to pay for it ....I don't like it when "collectors" start talking value.. If your more interested in what something is worth your an investor not a collector. To me value doesn't matter.
The value of something is important if you're looking to add that item to your collection. It gives you a reasonable expectation of what you might have to pay to get it.

You gotta find a spot for that Jawa sandcrawler
Video Idea: Not sure if you've done it. But it'd be cool to see a video on the evolution of all the different figure cases Kenner offered.
do not forget about the foam in the trash compactor everyone or their mother threw it away because of the mess it made.
My understanding is that that foam is known to disintegrate over the years, so it is hard to find intact.
I still have mine.

Thanks for the video.
I had the Kenner Death Star. Played the living sh*t outta that thing, trash monster, rope, and all!
Had this for my 8th birthday, along with the X-wing & Landspeeder - great days. Regret selling my vintage stuff off in later life now.
I've always wanted a trash👾monster figure...🤘🏼💯✔️
OMG...I still have my original rope! Never thought I could part with any of my Star Wars toys, but wow...I think I can live without my rope for that price.
Remote control sand crawler would be cool 🤘😎
Thanks 😀

Collectible toys are only worth what my wife is willing to allow me to get away with paying.
I got 2 sets courtesy of eBay with both boxes.
The Kenner Death Star sets.
I don't know which was easier to lose the rope from the Death Star or the Jedi training ball from the Falcon. Both are small and really easy to lose.
How can u put a value on Larry???
AT AT or Falcon next.
Did you do the Y-wing yet? How about the Ewok Village?
Hey Junkman about all those prices for the vintage Death Star, does it come with the missing rope that everyone loses ?
Yes
I don't know. does it work?

List it on craigslist for 1,450,750.00

Not a seller, but a “going price” does set a reasonable expectation if I’m looking to pick one up.
Well if you could ask everyone on the planet maybe you could see what it’s worth. :)
