    I discovered this info when I decided to buy one, so I only looked at 2019 and 2020 models. I decided to spend the extra money and get a 2019 since it’s a daily driver and I will be using it for a few years. I’ve put 3k miles on it with zero oil consumption. Side note, the initial Gen 2 voodoo’s were built by two people in the first few 2019’s. Mine was.. but it is verified as a Gen 2 by looking at the tag under the driver side valve cover shield. It’ll have a KA 555 AA & also a GT350R.

    I have a 2019, it's got about 1500 mi on it - I love it! TBH its way to much car for me,but that's a relative term that I am sure I can grow into! I did the same research as you did fwiw and you are bang on, I had no idea the car was going to be discontinued, but so far 99.8% trouble free fun. My only tip is when you change to oil (if you are a diy'er) it comes outta there like a geyser and my catch pan couldn't handle and it overflowed so it so it made a huge mess. Next time I am using a fluid extractor first....other than that - there is noting better than that exhaust!!! Enjoy it !!

    for anyone that hasn't done more research into the oil issues across the GT350 line, every single person I've come across with the oil consumption issues has been self-inflicted or there were extremely early signs that there was a major issue which was ignored...
    TH-camr #1: Claims went through break-in process perfectly normally! On no engine blows up at 8k miles! If you actually deep dive into his channel, his GT350 (2017) was using a quart of oil every 500 miles brand new (before heavy track days). Then it ramped up to 4 quarts every 1000 miles before it eventually blew up. He should have known from the start that if it was hogging oil that early and that much, under break-in stress that there was a serious problem.... "but ford states in the manual that oil consumption up to XX is fine." I would forced a buy back if it were my car, that's seriously not normal for any engine that early on in ownership. Eventually Oil leaks all over the inside of his engine bay on a track day, tops it off and KEEPS DRIVING! then BOOM. I mean what did you think was gonna happen.....?
    TH-camr #2: it was a 2017 or 2018.... (of course all forum posts stat, I didn't do anything to harm the engine!) But then i happened upon a video with an explanation from said youtuber. This time at 1000 miles tuned the car for E85 with aftermarket intake, ran E54, then diluted the E54 with 91 on an extremely hot track day. Engine had given an overheating warning, which is when the 91 was put in for some reason.... One bad decision after another. Do not boost the GT350, its already at max performance, if you want more buy something else. If you tune a car for specific fuel you literally cannot put anything else into it!
    What I'm getting at is the oil problems show their face from between 2k-20k miles in every scenario I could research and find online. And of these cases every single one I've deeply researched has been user error or the willful ignoring of a serious problems. If it hasn't shown up by 20k, I would assume that GT350 was probably broken-in and built extremely well.
    I discovered that for some reason in 2017 Ford switched production of some engine parts from Germany to Mexico. The speculation on the G6 forums was that it was to save cost... and my inference on that is because they now were forced to include the track pack on the premium GT350 for 2017 because of the lawsuit that occurred from the 2016 pack differences. Its my guess that both the youtubers I found that blew their engines, both 2017/2018.... might be from this manufacturing change.
    Based on this and all other info, as far as I can research online the most reliable years are 2016, and 2019/2020. I would not get anything other than a 2016 track pack, even for a daily driver if you get one. It would seem the kind of power this engine can output only desires the very best drivetrain components.
    Although this youtubers oil filter concern is legitimate, you just have to make sure to take it to Ford for oil changes or a real competent mechanic so that the desires 18-0 newton meters of force can be achieved. (check the manual for actual numbers, this is what I remember from a few days ago)
    Then again you could just go for a Gen 2 motor in the 2019, 2020 models. but these still have the same issues although in much rarer cases that I can find so far.
    I did happen upon one instance of a Gen 2 swapped 2017 that blew his motor an additional 2 times in addition to the original Gen 1..... and what's been the theme of this essay? yes, user-error. You cant blow 3 motors by chance.

    We have two 350s. Mine is a 2017 and I got my wife a 2019. My 17 came with the upgraded oil filter cover because it was built halfway through 2017. One additional thing the 19 has over mine is the carbon fiber radiator brace has mounting spots for hood pins that come on the GT500. My car doesn't have those and the replacement bracket is 900 dollars. Also, my 17 burns some oil. There are no leaks, but if we go on a long cruise and I run at a higher RPM, I can eat a quart of oil in a couple hundred miles. Hers hasn't burned any oil yet. At 6 buck a quart, that is something to think of. I put her Cup 2 tires on my car and she got PS4S tires for her 19.

    Where did you see the 350R engine is different than the 350? It’s never been different. It’s been a common rumor that pops up from time to time.

      Hi Moldygreenbean. Thanks for the comment. I found this information on the mustang6g.com forum. They seemed to get all of their information from this article: www.mustangandfords.com/features/built-ford-fast/
      I think the forum I reference later in the video is going off of the engine data tag that 2019+ owners are seeing on their engines. They all seem to say GT350R now.
      If you zoom to 7:17 I show the section of the page where the GT350R valve train components were different before. Nothing else in the engine was different from what I can find.

    How can you tell if your MY19 has the Gen2 Voodoo Engine visually? I've read about the 1 Vs 2 signature assembly plaque...Gen2 should have only a single signature...
    There is also the barcode on the engine block - Driver side under the coil cover...if Gen2, then there should be a KAxxxx number...Anyone can verify this?
    My '19 recently blew up at 600mi (last November)....Mr Valve met Mr Piston on Cyl 6...Ford replace the entire engine within 1 week being at the dealership. Because this happened before I stored the car for the winter, I did not have a chance to look if I got a Gen1 or Gen2 Engine...So, I am keen to learn what version of this engine I received..
    (No, the ford repair paperwork does not state what "version" i received)
    Any ideas?

      @ProjectCarMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you pull the car out for the summer definitely look at the build plate for the one builder name. That's probably the easiest way to tell if its a gen 2 engine. The other way of popping off the driver side coil cover to reveal the KA tag works too. I haven't actually looked under my coil cover yet so on my upcoming video on Tuesday I'll do that and show you where the tag is. Hopefully this helps!

    • @johnrichards9189
      @johnrichards9189 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw the engine when it first arrived on a wooden palate....It was just a block i.e. no lower or upper intake, TB, etc...The service Manager was super good with me and he ordered a lower and upper intake - he did not want to clean the old one as particles could still remain in place. So the only component from my blown engine that made it to the new engine, was the TB.
      As for the built plate, it was a carry over from my old Engine...so that will not work.
      I find it hard to believe that there is no "EASY" way to differentiate Gen 1 Vs Gen 2 Engines visually beyond the built plate.
      As for the KA tag, has this been confirmed?

    • @ProjectCarMedia
      @ProjectCarMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnrichards9189 Without the tag on the engine or the build plate I would think it would be really hard to tell without tearing apart the engine. This forum shows a picture of what the tag looks like about 5 posts down. I'll take a picture of what mine looks like on my next video Tuesday. www.svtperformance.com/threads/how-to-tell-if-you-have-a-gen-ii-engine.1182478/

    I bought my 2019 GT350 a year ago. The Dodge dealership where we were buying my wife's jeep had just taken it in on a trade. I saw it in the lot and could not stop thinking about it. I had no Idea what it even was. Needless to say I went back for a test drive and Oh my goodness..what a ride that was.. I had to have it. I sold two cars one was my Dodge Challenger and I have 0 Regrets. I had no idea what I had baught. To be fair I still probably don't fully but I can say NO REGRETS. She is my Pride and JOY!

    lol this video came out with only limited amount of mileage on 2019's. 3 years later, same amount of failures. Low tension rings are the main issue causing oil consumption. Driver ignorance is what caused engines to fail. The changes made to the cars produced very minimal if any changes to driveability, speed, or reliability. The R version has minor tweeks and $15k wheels. Other than that, same car.

      Yeah that is an odd one that I haven’t figured out yet. It’s sounding like engines built on the Niche line at the Romeo plant had the one builder. What does your plate say under the names?
