  • In this video we put out a buyers guide outline of things to look out for when buying a Shelby GT350. The Shelby GT350 is an absolutely amazing car but it isnt without flaws. Throughout my 3 years of ownership of my very own 2017 Shelby GT350, i have compiled a list of commonly known issues that i have either read about or experienced myself.
The Shelby GT350 has an amazing engine but at the same time the 5.2L flat plan crank V8 has a tendency to fail at random. Additionally, the GT350 5.2L also has the tendency to consume a higher than average amount of oil when driven hard. Its important to keep track of oil consumption in the GT350.
We put this video together to outline a GT350 buyers guide so that buyers out there in the market for a Shelby GT350 can know what to look for, what's normal, and what questions to be asking. This Shelby GT350 buyer guide video points out several items that buyers should be looking out for ranging from paint quality, fit and finish, along with a couple mechanic items as well. I hope this shelby gt350 buyers guide is a useful tool for anyone looking to buy a shelby gt350.
Thanks for watching this video of things to look out for when buying a Shelby GT350 buyers guide.

The panel gap on the bumper is a bad bumper from the supplier actually easy fix if under warranty and the crack is from the mold and it’s from the supplier as well Ford doesn’t paint bumpers only the actual body shell the bumpers come from the supplier painted

Good summary. My car, special ordered for me in 2017, has been great. The comments about blown engines are funny. My car hasn’t consumed oil but I understand many have...but a lot of Porsche 911’s do too. In the pantheon of terrible things it’s not such a big deal. The car is a one of a kind. A clean one under $40k would be a steal.

My friend one year or 10,000 miles for an oil change on a Shelby GT 350 pretty much guarantees you’re going to damage the engine! Six months 5000 miles absolute maximum. With checking the oil in between. Do that and switch up to Amsoil while still using the factory filter and you can guarantee you won’t have any engine problems whatsoever!
I certainly hope everyone who owns a GT 350 follows this advice that was given to me.
I have a 2016 with no oil consumption‘s or abnormal noises whatsoever.
It doesn’t even consume a quart in 5000 miles, If it’s not on the track.

Mine has the sagging bumper issue even I had it “fixed” by Ford. The other gaps are not perfect but not as bad as yours. Also less paint issues. No engine failures and just a light consumption. Personally what bugs me are the rattles in the interior and the bad sounding stereo without a subwoofer. 2017

I compared and test drove both GT 350 and Bullitt. Bullitt was very nice comfortable and fast plus cool looking in understated way. GT350 was more visceral and very loud. Both great cars. For me the $15k higher cost for the GT350 was the bottom line that I decided for Bullitt. Both great though. I don’t think the 350 is that much better for my driving habits which don’t include track driving only commuting.

“So guys, there are a few issues to be aware of”, soon after puts a brief excerpt of the car driving around at healthy revs…
My reaction was “what was this video about? Issues?”, suddenly I don’t care about having to be careful for oil, panels and whatnot.
Regarding the thump sound when putting it in gear, I have a normal Mustang GT and sometimes it does a “thump” that might be the same, don’t have to be doing anything just maybe stopped, turning it on, putting it first (no matter how light) and sometimes it might do it. Definitely noticeable, never an issue.

You can make it new looking again by brushing it with a tooth brush and water. The shifter thump may possibly be your not pushing the clutch all the way down before you go in gear. That could be why you couldn't get it to do it for us. Is because your pushing the clutch down all the way, because my fox body will do the same thing. Anyway nice car & good luck with it.
