    We drove the Shelby GT350R back in 2016 when it was new, and it was game-changing for what the SVT team was able to achieve both with the Voodoo engine, a once-in-a-generation mill, and also the agility, the best ever for a front-engined Ford. Now that Ford has announced the end of this generation of GT350, we took the opportunity to take the last California press car for a proper blast! The 2021 Ford Mustang GT350R follows Porsche's GT3 playbook to a T, and offers not just one of the most rewarding experiences available in an American car, but one of the most rewarding experiences available in all cars.
    Ford provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of gas for this review.

    It goes without saying the GT350R (and the "normal" 350's) are legends, and will remain legends. More over, its one of THE last great analog drivers sports cars. GT500 is great if not greater but its paddle shifting a very different experience. But the GT350R... Shelby, Mustang, sweet looks sweet sounds (voodoo v8 8250rpm FPC) a first for mustang, and worth a hell of a lot down the road. The car will never loose its value.

      I always tell my friends it's like an American S2000. Everything is just....more. More power, more speed, more weight, more room inside, more room outside, more cylinders, more cams, more noise. It even feels like VTEC kicks in at 3500RPM when the Ti-VCT shift profiles.

    • @JacesOwnWorld
      @JacesOwnWorld 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The GT350 is like a Japanese S2000 I agree. In European terms, the GT350 is basically a European M3 (E46 or E90/92 version). All these cars rev high, and handle well. The GT350 is the pinnacle of “track street car” for America, just like the S2000 and E46 M3 was for Japan and Europe.

    I recently bought a 2020 GT350R in this exact specification and had the pleasure of getting it out on track last month. What Matt says here about it being a "momentum car" was really brought home to me on the track. It turns in so nicely and with the track camber settings, carries a surprising amount of speed through corners. This thing does 100mph in 3rd, so there were stretches I was able to take flat where most other cars would have to shift. A bystander videoing the event came up to me after and told me the GT350 was the best sounding car there. I'll take that :)

    It is a pure pleasure to see these cars build a legacy. The fact that the R is not mass produced makes them desirable and the privelege of driving one is something you cannot replace. Personally one of the beat american cars for the track. Naturally aspirated and that noise is spectacular up here in canada there's only a few and you know it's an R before you even see because of that noise. If straight line bullshit is your thing, send it to Fathouse Fabrications and blow away that purple Viper you had on "Sorted" lol. I owned a 2016 350 Tech Pack from new and daily drove it for almost 2 years, putting on 27k miles before I sold it. I came into it from an E92 M3 with over 100k miles, and ultimately the thing that made me sell it was the perceived lack of build quality, or that Ford sold the car without figuring out some issues first. For example, in those 27k miles I had the AC compressor go out *3* different times, and I had the exhaust literally rattle itself apart causing some exhaust clamps to completely fall off the car, only to be told by the dealer that it's the owner's responsibility to retorque *all* bolts underneath the car every 10k miles. "It's a racecar for the road bro" - Service Advisor.
    The car also drank oil unlike any car I've owned, and I'm a longtime BMW guy lol. Additionally, being a 2016 tech pack car, it would overheat in the canyons after about 20 minutes, or after exactly 6 laps at Laguna Seca, which was incredibly infuriating as Ford ultimately fixed these issues the next model year, and offered no support to 2016 tech pack cars. Aside from that, getting the car serviced at Ford for warranty work was a complete joke. I needed to have an oil change done while it was getting the AC replaced for the second time, and had an SA try to convince me to get the basic conventional oil change package to save myself like $40 compared to the spec full synthetic Motorcraft oil that the car requires.
    TLDR: Ford made an extremely competent car with little regard to ownership experience and longterm build quality

    Farah, appreciate the awesome videos as always. Can't even recall how long I've been watching them. Pretty much my go to for actual reviews.
