😂 I was just In bed w/ a plastic cap, bonnet on and deep conditioner in my hair. I planned on leaving it in overnight b/c I got tired but after hearing #2 and doing research expeditiously, I hopped out of bed so fast lol couldn’t risk it. Thanks again for another GREAT video🫶🏾
I find it ironic that now all of a sudden what our parents were doing for us which was wash, condition, grease and oil your scalp and hair is now what people think was their idea. Lollllll
I pre poo, wash, and deep condition with heat weekly per my stylist recommendation. I also blow dry my hair on medium heat with heat protectant before I style in twists or a twistout. I see my stylist every 3-4 months. I have no heat damage and my single strand knots disappeared.
@jdbailey442, Hi, which blow dryer do you use? I have 4C hair but am struggling with products and everything. If you don't mind, can you also recommend some products? But if you can't, I'll be OK with just the blow dryer. Thanks
@@Evolve378I am 4c too! I have had a difficult time keeping my hair moisturized. My hair will feel soft at first but then a few days later it becomes dry. The products that I vacillate from are Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Moisturizer Mask $12-13 dollars and or Pattern Beauty, intense conditioner (black &white packaging) and leave-in (yellow &white packaging. Pattern Beauty Products are high end but they keep my hair moisturized longer. I wait until there is a sale. African Hair God has videos on hair products and how to care for coils, curly and tight textured hair. I hope this helps!
Great video. I know I don't need to deep condition every week, but I do. I have very fine strands and find that my hair feels better when I deep condition.
I definitely prefer deep conditioning outside the shower, not soaking wet. When I use a deep conditioner on soaking wet hair, it dilutes the conditioner and I rather deep condition on wet hair to get more absorption of the conditioner. My hair is on the dry side, so I make it a point to deep condition weekly. Thank you for sharing.
I also find using a tangle teaser/wet brush to detangle while I have the conditioner on really helps with the penetration and smoothing of my cuticles for a better application
Sigh, I'm just sitting down to pre-poo because I haven't washed my hair in 21 days!!!! And been styling it like a crazy woman. So just seeing your lovely face is giving me the vibe I need to get started. Happy Sunday, Jenn J
@@JennJacksonCan you do another video on different types of deep conditioners? For example, reconstruction conditioners, protein conditioners etc and what ingredients constitutes them? Like they say, not all DCs are equal and not all DC actually deep conditions!
Honestly, the best treatments, are the ones that address both of the hydration and protein levels of the hair! That way, you don't have to worry about which one, when you're addressing both! It's definitely my motto! To stay centered and balanced, rather than maybe over treating something
a lot of these deep conditioner labels literally say to towel dry your hair before applying it. there's not much of a massive difference between conditioners and deep conditioners so I wouldn't say that deep conditioners are necessary for everyone. as long as you are using the conditioner after shampooing, coating your strands in the conditioner, and leaving it on for a good enough amount of time is enough (and adding heat if need be).
Thanks Jenn. Yes my stylist recommends a $60 jar. It's very popular, but I can't stomach that price, so im off to find a comparable brand. Great tips as per usual 👌🏾
I didn't go through all the comments bit just in case it wasn't mentioned. You had an error at the end. After you wash your hair it may be negatively charged which helps the positively charged conditioner to 'bind' to the hair better.
The biggest mistake that I did was leaving my deep conditioning in my hair overnight, and the next day, when I rinsed my hair, my hair turned out dry and brittle. I will never do that again
Great tips!! I can tell by ringlets forming that the conditioner has done it's job..and that usually at the 5 to 10 minute mark..just like most labels recommend.
@@JennJackson Not sure how long you thought I was talking about but 15-30 minutes with plastic cap under dryer or without under steamer. I guess we are going to agree to disagree.
My hair fully and totally accepts deep conditioner when it's dry. It works for me. My hair sucks it up and the curls just pop like crazy. I use the deep conditioner to detangle, then i section into four loose braids and use a heat cap for a while. Next I hop into my shower, shampoo scalp first then loosen each section to wash the hair and finish with rinse out conditioner. I wash myself then rinse out the conditioner. Saves time, water and my hair loves this routine. The only time I shampoo first then deep condition is if I'm clarifying, which is only from time to time. I can't sleep with deep conditioner. It makes my throat hurt and gives me headaches if I keep it in for more than a couple of hours
Well done vid, Jenn. Content, editing, vibe...all of that. Seriously well done! And thankfully wash day was yesterday...and I did all da right things you mentioned!! 😂😂 I like DIYs tho, so made a strengthening herbal hair mask and did that between clarifying shampoo and moisturizing DC. And did a tea rinse afterwards before styling. Rosemary, thyme, green tea, enchinacea, ginger❤ I know you not da DIY girlie but its fun for me 😁
I agree with your stylist, back in the 70’s and 80’s deep conditioner was not a thing. We only got those treatments if and when we went to the Salon. And we all had long natural hair without using deep deep conditioners every week or 2 weeks.
hi Jen, i tried Rihanna products. I love all of them, But that The Comback Kid is the wash an go s best friend . i am gonna order i just don t want to run out. my hair texture feels so good , i can even skip jel or cream to style
I have implemented deep conditioning after each wash and 30 minutes maximum. I remember over night deep conditioning what a mushy mess. 😅😅 I know better now.
"Dirty hair grows" may come from tribes in Africa that uses herbal mixture to grow their hair to very long lengths like in Chad and Mbalantu women. Hair takes in no more than it needs as far as conditioning is concerned. Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏾💐💜😀🙋🏾♀️
Yes I’m definitely going back to my TH-cam university notes so I can keep my hair on track lol. Oh @Jenn Jackson what is the color and brand of your lipstick, it looks so nice on you ❤.
Is it fine to not use a DC if you use a regular moisturizing conditioner? In my house you have to pick one or the other when my mom shops😅 Also do i have to drop Indian hemp cream? Like is it bad?? I've been on the natural hair journey for a little over two years now but I don't really have anyone around me to help and the internet is scary 😢 I'm 17 btw so don't be mean please 🥹🥹
If it's Indian Hemp blue magic you can keep using it if it's working for your hair. I have it too and it's very heavy compared to Dark&Lovely. If I want my hair to have some movement when I style it I use dark&lovely. I would advice you buy deep conditioner only. Buy the biggest jar you can find so that when you go shopping again you can buy a protein treatment instead.
The natural hair journey can be so confusing and stressful at times. This video mentioned Hydral Fatigue. I just watched a video with Anthony Dickey from Hair Rules that says it’s a made up term.
It's not made up, but it's not caused by water. It's caused by conditioning products used excessively or incorrectly. If you're one of those people who sleep with their deep conditioner on it could happen to you. Also be careful with styling creams, they're more likely to have one of those ingredients that shouldn't stay in your hair too long. Grease and butters don't cause that problem though. I use grease. If Anthony Dickey can convince you that hydral fatigue doesn't exist, then I wonder what your stand is on protein treatments. That's what some people use to restore hydral fatigued hair. Although I've found that too many single strand knots may be a sign that you need to use a protein treatment on your next washday.
@@Icreatedthisbymistake Thank you for clearing up “my confusion” in regards to hydral fatigue. I’m not sleeping with my conditioner on. That’s not a bad routine I used to do that. My hair was always moisturized. Now I don’t deep condition at all except maybe once a year when I use oil beforehand.

Towel dry aka means damp hair! It doesn't mean that the hair should be dry. It means that the water content is high in the formulation

Steaming is great but also putting sitting under a drier is good too. Making sure your hair is covered with a plastic cap or bag.
