We got to stop making the hair journey so hard and stick to basics. At this point I feel like we just want to run around in circles for absolute no reason causing set back from pure boredom. No more new methods no more new trends, no more new products no more using our hair as a test dummy or letting other ppl play in our heads. PERIOD
Yes. I cut my hair an inch short and hated it. So I decided to braid it up for a year. So I used a leave in and grease then installed the braids. A year later healthy hair, no split ends.
We were wrong about grease, oils, and butters definitely. Our natural oil doesn't reach the end so we don't get as much lubrication that we would from using these. I never thought it made sense to go without em lol as long as we clarify regularly and moisturize properly first
Wait people actually stopped using all hair oils? I know hair oil can weigh the hair down or cause product build-up, but people stopped using it altogether is crazy to me.
@@AyeliaGDorenwhat I had understood is that people would still use ready made products that may contain oil, but not raw oil. Which I agree. If you ever felt the smelt of rancid on the end of the day… that’s what made me stop using it even before it was trend
I never stopped using grease. It definitely doesn’t grow the hair, but I enjoy the softness and texture it give when using after shampooing and conditioning. Thx for the video
Started using grease on my daughter’s hair this past year and the length retention is undeniable and shocking 😂❤ the before and after pictures do not lie
Hi, are you only using it on the end and a bit on the scalp? What does rest of your regimen look like? So the question is What are you using for shampoo/clarifying and moisturizing?
The no oils no butter trend was my saving grace. I never tried it, but it was then that I discovered my hair loves thick, moisturizing creams and Blue Magic hair grease. 🤩 Late last year, RazorEmpress turned me back on to hair grease. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I won’t be without it. Thank you for this video. ❤
@@EpicRealistTV SAME! The Indian Hemp is in my hair as we speak, along with Nature’s Little Secret Irish Moss Styling Cream. 🤩 EPIC, beautiful, shiny twists.
My length retention has been on POINT since I started using it correctly and implemented it back into my routine. I’ve been natural for almost 10 years and legit started seeing consistent length retention after adding grease back into my routine. I blow out my hair amazed that my hair is nearing my childhood length. All because I started sealing my moisture in with grease
I started going back to grease slowly. I keep the oils as well when just needing to put on scalp when wearing braids. But, you're right. Grease holds moisture longer. Going back to the basics with some newly learned methods definitely won't hurt.
I love non petroleum hair grease. There are so many good ones from companies like Natural Oasis, G Naturals, Kemistry Organics and Naturelle Grow. A little goes a long way and I never have oil all over my pillowcases. I never have buildup and it's not hard to wash out. My retention is great and my hair stays so soft.
I love how she says we. I have been watching her channel and when she went no oil and butters. The comment section pushed back. I never stopped using oils and butter.
Yesss I just started using grease again, recently and I got the best twist out I’ve ever done. It definitely helped keep my hair moisturized for a full week I was SHOOK! Just bought more today, let me go buy more before it becomes the next “trend” and they triple the price 😅
Hey Jen, thanks for sharing your truths! My natural hair became discolored also… My mama kept saying it look like it’s burnt or some chemical done altered it. I didn’t even use flat irons or curlers nor did I have color so I didn’t know what was going on. I also was very afraid to start back incorporating a little oil and/or grease. It may sound crazy to some, but honestly quite a bit of the things that were taught by some licensed professionals really seemed to have made sense. Some may have really meant well cause it seemed to have made sense to them too. However, as imperfect humans it can be hard to admit when one is WRONG or didn’t have something quite right. HUMILITY is definitely needed. Anywho, thanks again for reading my comment & sharing your truths.
What I learned from the No oil/butter movement was to clarify my hair. I think we can use the oils/butters as long as we ensure we r washing them off completely and allowing our tresses hydration through shampooing. Once that’s done then proceed with slathering the oils/butters on again and style as desired. Those r just my thoughts on it
Looking back, reflecting on the whole motive for discouraging/shaming folks for using o&b's, I believe, was to claim the benefit would be "simplified" hair care (i.e. w&g's) to create a new stream of clientele for the stylists they trained to do curly cuts. This was a mission to get them clients so that it justified the expensive training the stylists paid for. There are plenty of ppl who do not prefer a w&g, yet those alternative styles were rarely, if ever, addressed. Why? No need for a curly cut. The main thing any of us needed to be reminded of is the importance of washing regularly and using the proper shampoo for the hair's needs (i.e. moisturizing vs. very cleansing).
Yes, I think it might have been financially motivated. There are no Amazon commissions to be made on buying Shea butter, almond oil or blue magic too, so those products aren't profitable hence they were demonized
Girl the way you was hooked on no oils no butters. Love to see you rethink becsuse that trend had me side eyeing too many things in this life if oils was no good for my hair. Could never part with my thick, thick castor oil.
my oils and my thick styling creams get on famously with my hair, they have been together for a short time but already they are well matched and happy together. i foresee a lengthy union, maybe even a golden jubilee
Avocado oil makes my hair feel softer. But if I need some definition I cant use it for that style without a gel. So my hair feels soft it just gets super undefined
Sixty eight years old, soon to be sixty nine, been using grease and straightening my hair with a pressing comb since five or six years old and my hair is still long and full. Grease and heat training has been a no-no because incorrect info from some self proclaimed hair experts/ influencers. They know so much but always seem to end up big chopping their own hair because the very methods they promote ends up damaging it, go figure 🤔
Love this video Jenn! Definitely food for thought. I remember using grease as a little girl . But I also remember it everywhere on the pillows in the bonnet . But probably my most vivid memory of grease is my mom putting it on so thick she would run her hands in my hair and be able to moisturize her hands with it. Literally she was rubbing her hands together like it was the best lotion 🤣.
Jenn, I am smiling while watching this video with grease locking in the moisture in my 2-week old braids/plaits. I don't use a lot so my hair is not greasy. I also wear wash and gos with leave in conditioner and cream with hold that contains oils in the first 5 ingredients. My curls are always very defined for 2 weeks so clearly, the oils and grease did not prevent moisture from entering my hair. I have always been a natural hair rule breaker because I use sulfate shampoos and products with silicone. I watched the no oils, no butters videos for entertainment only. Just continue to assess your hair and pivot as required.
@@caribqueen63 I currently use Nature's Blessings Hair Grease for my braids and twists. I use African Pride Olive Miracle Leave in Conditioner and African Pride Moisture Miracle Shea Butter and Flaxseed Oil Curling Cream plus Jamaican Black Castor Oil for my wash and gos.
I watched the no oils and butters videos as well for entertainment as well because my high porosity hair could never I use blue magic grease, creme of nature shea & mango shampoo which she sulphates, the conditioner which has silicones and the Leave in which has cones. Blow dry or flat iron basically when I feel like it. Natural hair ain’t that complicated
Hair grease never left the chat for me😋😂. Always kept grease, oils and butters as my staples. My ancestors looked at me like child if you dare to drop those😂😂. Even if I use a thick butter, for a protective style the only thing that keeps my hair moisturised is grease🤷🏾♀️
Lol it's because of Africanhairgod I went back to grease 😂 he suggested a few greases like Nature's Blessing Grease. Also bought Blue Magic and a few others that I used when younger. Klassically Kept put me on the chebe grease. Love it! Between the Africanhairgod and Klassically Kept, I now have a great routine. So yeah, no more trends for me😅
@@JennJackson I keep my hair in two strand twist for two weeks. Wash, deep condition, leave in,, grease, and repeat. I do updos for work with the two strand twist in. Easy for my busy life and the grease keeps my hair feeling soft for the two weeks. Edited to add, I use castor oil once or twice a week on my scalp and hair.
I use the chebe grease that klassicallykept uses. I used too much the first couple of times and it made my hair greasy. Now I use a little bit making sure I don’t get it on my scalp. Time will tell if my hair likes it or not.
i have been following you for 4 years. i remember you started no oils and butter, and you never mentioned the dandruff or flaky scalp. my aunt was a beautician i had dandruff she tld me stop using water and grease together, so it was good for something. your hair is gorgeous by the way
I went back to hair grease! Definitely was influenced by Afrikan hair god!! That natures blessing is teeewwww good. I stopped using it originally because I was using blue magic at first but very improperly. I was using too much. So of course my hair didn’t react well. So I was using oil but after watching his videos i figured out what I was doing wrong and why grease “wasn’t working” when I used to use it. So glad I figured it out because grease is so much more cost effective than buying oil to seal my hair.
Hey Love Yes African Hair God made hair grease come back and as a little girl our hair dressers and care givers used hair grease. However Just an FYI in my 20's when I started going to Dominican Salons my hair grew healthy and the longest it had ever been (with a relaxer) at that point. In my early 40's as a natural I continued to my oil blend of hair oil to grow my hair to waist length. It seems to be more about having a consistent routine and sealing in the moisture more so than a specific product. The "crime" LOL is the mineral oil and petroleum used in the products so I hear you and I appreciate your feedback on this topic. I actually have the Design Essentials Peppermint and Aloe hair grease that African Hair God recommends and I still use my oil so I'm just sharing my thoughts but I'm not really advocating for one side or the other. With our individual strands it seems to be about trial and errors because we are all different. Best wishes to everyone along their hair journey. I apologize for the long paragraph LOL Love!
From my experience with grease you'll also need a clarifying shampoo or a shampoo with sulfates in it. It's what's going to clean the grease off your hair strands. I find liquid oils for my scalp and hair then putting grease on the ends works for me. Good luck in your journey.
We were definitely wrong about hair grease. I started using it again recently after over 20 years (I was a kid), and I find that it keeps my high-porosity, very coily hair sealed and moisturized better than oils and butters! I used grease incorrectly in the past, but thanks to Narada and EfikZara, I know better. I can't believe I went so long with dry hair and scalp when I could have been using grease. I used it for a twist out and my hair was hydrated for over 2 weeks.
I really appreciate you still making hair content even if you’re slowly moving away from the topic. I’ve been watching you for years since I was a confused teen trying to learn about my 4c hair and now a young adult confident in my routine ❤️
You know how your hair felt when that stylist used a clarifying shampoo? My coarse/thick 4c hair feels like that often. I’ve started using grease for a few weeks now and that feeling is slowly going away. Like a night and day difference. It’s shocking how effective it is because oils and butters have never worked for me. Honestly deep conditioners and leave ins barely help. Also, I’ve washed weekly for years because that’s when my scalp would start to itch. But I put plaits in hair (with grease on the roots, not really the scalp) over four weeks ago, and there’s no itching yet. Again insane, because oiling my scalp has only caused more itching. The real test will be when I take my plaits out and see how my hair feels after washing, but for now grease seems like a hair life saver. All I do is use Curl Origin’s hydrating curl spray once or twice a week, and my hair feels softer with more movement and looks shinier and not as dull than a couple months ago. Yeah I should’ve listened to Natural Academia sooner🙈 I recently started watching AfrikanHairGod and he’s the one who finally convinced to make the switch. Oils and butters didn’t work. No oils and butters didn’t work but did give me crazy good definition. Grease seems to be the thing that makes me believe my hair doesn’t have to be perpetually dry.
I use grease in my hair.I use it as a sealant. I put it on my scalp once a week only. And the grease that I use is the nature's blessings hair grease. Hair grows regardless, especially if you're keeping your scalp and your hair clean. This is how hair grease oils and butter's help aid in hair growth. They help it alone as long as the hair is healthy.I teach this on my channel every so often. This is a great video.Thank you ever kindly?God bless you❤
A part of me on science or biology thought process…..maybe it worked back in the day bc we were growing kids in the 90s. Our hair and scalp was growing leaps and bounds. We were eating healthier and were growing kids. Hair down our back. The other side of me is thinking maybe grease works. 🤔 I guess you got to just wash your hair more often 🤷🏾♀️ so many questions I got. But now I have locs and it’s growing a lot without grease or lots of oil. The loc community is a whole nother thing too! If you ever decide to go over there 😅 lol
Nah, I was never a big grease fan, always made my scalp itchy! Also never gave up my deep conditioners. I am going to incorporate lightweight oils back into my regimen too. Especially for the colder months.
i started using beeswax again this year after trip to the salon I used to go in my teens and I'm pleasantly surprised. My hair dresser used beeswax to my twists and I was shocked at how moisturized my hair was after 2 weeks with no added products. I didn't want to believe it at first but I' trying it with my extensions today. Like to remind me to update
@@JennJackson surprisingly none. Been using it as a sealant with my usual leave in and it's been going well. I'm doing mini twists with extensions today with this method for the first time Fingers crossed it keeps the moisture
I grew up in a time when all we knew and had was grease. Then I had options, many new products formulated and marketed for my 4c tresses, of course I was curious so I went on a journey of exploration to find that "perfect" product. And that was good because I learned a lot about my hair that I didn't know before, and now, I am reconsidering......Grease. I'm glad we have options. Thank you Jenn for sharing your journey.
Listen Jenn, I’ve been watching your content for a while now. And when you dropped oils and butters, I didn’t hop on that tip. But I did watch out of curiosity 😅
Thank you for sharing. I dropped grease more than 20 years ago back when I was relaxed, always weighed my hair down. Not back to oils and butters but using leave ins… I also cut my hair off prior to the debacle with no oils no butters and enjoy going to the barber and being able to wash and go in 10 minutes. 😂 (menopause will make you look at everything differently). I think it’s important to do what works best for your hair. There are lessons to be learned as we navigate this hair journey and I hope people are able to take the good and drop the bad. We just have to remember to give ourselves grace along the way.
I’m all for hair grease but I can’t use it due to having seborrheic dermatitis. It makes my scalp itch like crazy. I just wash, deep condition and keep my hair hydrated during the week with water and my hair is fine.
@@JennJackson Yep just water. I’m too sensitive to products with oil, fragrance or essential oils. So water works just fine for me and my hair is fine..
Yes I think we were wrong about it! The main issues were 1. Using too much 2. Using it incorrectly 3. Expecting hold out of a non- hold product. 1. A little bit of grease goes a looooong way. 2. I've been using it recently after leave-in and parting but before other styling products, especially for braids, twists, or other confined styles. 3. I've been experimenting with using grease as a base for wash and goes, sometimes just by itself, sometimes with a gel on top. As long as you accept your natural curl pattern and don't try to make it look different, I find it works quite well! (It still does feel a bit crispier for my tastes though, compared to a braid out and such) So glad you brought up vaseline, because vaseline is safe to be used on adult and baby skin and grease is basically coloured vaseline with maybe a couple more things for scent and conditioning. I've been experimenting with using it to elongate a style a couple more days when my scalp starts to itch, and so far, that's been working, and my hair feels nice and soft. Another nice bonus is the SHINE it's been giving my hair lately. I'll pass a mirror and see something glinting and realise it's my strands. 😁 Also, my hair literally absorbs oil and grease, so I find that if I use the right amount and let it dry, I'm not having any issues with my hair actually being greasy and sticky. I'm still experimenting, but I'm liking what I'm finding so far. And best of all, some of the cheapest and beat greases on the market are black owned, by companies that literally built/played a huge hand in supporting the black beauty industry, so let's give them their flowers and go recover the hair knowledge that was lost after the 60s-90s.
I've learned something from every haircare trend, including "no oils or butter" "no raw oils or butters" (NROOB) detox (the latter of which I never did). I tried the WoW (water only wash) and learned the techniques of "prining" (?) that really helps get water (and product) into low porosity strands; I learned that running to water instead of avoiding it can do amazing things for my hair (Maximum Hydration Method, MHM )and knew the benefits of water before NROOB, so I nodded my head at that part of their approach. I DID venture out to use mousse after the NROOB discussions that arose over the past three years and I have found some that work for me. But I have NEVER stopped using raw oils and butters AND hair grease in my hair. Every "method" has a good thing and some stuff that needs to go down the drain with the dirty water...lol (My favorite hair greases: Hollywood Castor Oil and Royal Crown. My can't live without hair oil: Castor Oil).
Jenn, I went back to grease a while ago. I decided that if our hair was growing and doing so well when we were kids and our parents were shampooing, greasing and then pressing our hair the next day, then it was good enough for me to return to that. Now, I grease my scalp, run a little down the length after washing it and then just use a spritz of water, oil and leave in conditioner whenever my hair needs it. I have locs and they are growing like crazy. My grease is a mixture of all the things you had on the screen (or something really similar). My hair seems to itch less, break less and retain length when I stick to this regimen.
Girl the other thing is to go back to legacy brands for your moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. They were formulated with hairstylists in mind, who touch hundreds of heads of hair; the new natural hair products are formulated with consumers in mind; who only know their head of hair. Try the Deep Moisture Shampoo and Balancing Moisturizer by Aphogee or the Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner from the professional Keracare line (not the curlessence line). Truly a game changer.
@@msboro No problem! Permed hair is just natural hair that’s undergone chemical processing. So if anything, products for relaxed hair will be even more moisturizing. Also the Balancing Moisturizer has petrolatum (aka hair grease) in it- so once you rinse it out you have a thin film of hair grease on your strands and may not need to add more afterwards.
Agreed. I had bought my brother a tresemme set from the dollar store to help him out. I noticed how shiny and soft his hair was getting. Tried it for myself and was surprised. Had to get it for myself.
Good Video. I am in my late 50's. I have been natural all my life. For a few years I started using butters and oils and it did not keep my hair from being super dry. It did not work for me. My hair started breaking off. I just started back to using grease last year and my hair is breaking way less. I add a little oil to my grease and my hair looks more healthy and is not that dry. I also use a hair lotion then add grease. This is way cheaper than all those fancy expensive so called natural hair products, easy to find in stores and work better for me. I did a lot of resource on ingredients they have in natural hair products and found out A LOT of them have LYE ingredients in them, such as benzene alcohol, benzyl benzoate, benzyl salicylate and sodium hydroxide. A lot of new hair products whether natural or not are using these ingredients. Also some old products have changed their ingredients using the lye containing ingredients. BEWARE.
I have locs and recently went back to grease and ever since then my scalp has not been itchy and my hair stay moisturized longer. I am not a huge fan of trends so I didn't get into any of them. I went back to grease after remembering my hair thriving when I was younger when my mom used to put beads in our hair. Will continue to use it for sure.
I love Blue Magic! I use it every wash day and when I’m protective styling. My hair is never dry when I’m taking down a protective style. I stop using all these other products on my 4b/4c hair and it has been flourishing. I’m glad I went back to hair grease. I really wasted money on hair products and I should have just kept it simple!
Instead of grease I went back to silicone deep conditioners and a light silicone oil for styling I also clarify once a month to wash out the silicone and repeat since I am not using too much either way literally one drop of the oil is enough when I do this I experience zeroooooo breakage and maximum length retention!
I missed the drop the grease memo...that coconut blue magic grease is my favorite. Ive used it forever. Ive had waist length and now short hair due to my going gray big chop. Gray hair has a mind of its own i couldn't make this transition without grease.
I went back to grease only on my ends of my hair. I was using the blue, blue magic at first. Then i realized its not suited for weekly washing (for me, at least). Now im using the softee mango butter grease (got it from the hair store for $2). It's way easier to wash out. I do believe that we shouldn't be putting products on the scalp unless we are treating it. I have seen a difference in my scalp. I believe in sebum and all its wonderful benefits. But how do we get it to coat our coily strands?
Jenn, you are cracking me up. You are so entertaining and informative. Thank you for your videos. We are all learning for ourselves. Tell those folks with all that judgement to pick someone else. We not trying to hear that. 😅😅😂😂
It’s so interesting that people are convinced that we need to keep our hair “moisturized” with water based products when it’s no mystery that the areas of our bodies that need to stay moist moisturized itself. Our scalp produces an oily waxy type substance that is called sebum. If it needed watering all the time it would make that naturally. I use grease and butters on my hair and only wet it to wash it 😅.
I've never stopped oiling my scalp. I've been more attentive to this as I've gotten older too.I use Blue Magic on the ends and tea tree, castor oil, and peppermint oil on my scalp. Also I use a coconut oil/castor oil mixture on my hair as a conditioner after shampooing.
I think grease would be great if you're doing protective styles. Actually I used to seal my hair with grease when I had a twa and was doing coils. It was very shiny and soft. But the buildup was real. Grease has always attracted dirt in my hair. And touching your hair?...leaning on something?... not for me. I really can't imagine using grease with a wash n go at all... except on ends of hair... possibly.
Hi Jenn! I am going to revisit grease now that i know how to properly cleanse my hair. I think we were itching and burning because we used so much and didnt clean it out properly 😂
Hey sis, have you checked your water to see if you have hard water? Hard water can change the color of your hair too. Try a filtered shower head. Also, try "Malibu" hard water hair care system. Many blessings to you💜💛♥
It made sense for me to drop grease because as a child, I did braids but using grease or conditioners didn't stop my scalp itching and when I stopped using, my scalp felt relief. Anytime I tried incorporating it back, my scalp would itch immediately. I've since found that using a dandruff shampoo helps remain itch free has helped a lot and last week, I tried the design essentials itchy scalp grease (AHG recommend) and it does make even more of a difference. with the shampoo I could get one week itch free, I feel with the grease I might be able to get two or three weeks. also, considering I was experimenting past few years with wngs, twist outs and braid outs, products with hold makes sense (and a leave in). I never thought I would use grease but this time round, I'm going to be alternating with the wngs and braids/twists so I'm keeping my gels and adding in the grease.
YT always needs more content, I blame that for all of these confusing trends/fads. I never dropped oils and butters and I always use grease on my edges. I have 4c healthy hair. I just know what works for MY hair
You look amazing by the way❤️😍 Meanwhile there was never a probelm with oils, butters,or grease. It was always the amount used. Do they seal in moisture?yes. But at the same time, it never made sense to me with the loc or lco method and always layering butters and oils everytime when you are nowhere near washday. The buildup tends to be crazy. I feel with protective styles u really do not want to do much. You could layer after a wash then subsequently you moisturize without using the sealant. Then midway into the protective style, you can use it. Not every 3-5 days, you layer a whole thick butter. Which now brings me to wonder, is it about the method of use or about the product being used?🙃
I’m going try the both. I’m finishing up this huge tub of shea butter and my hair has been fine. Once I’m done with this I’m going to buy the Blue Magic. I don’t remember which one I used but will compare the two. I must say I’ve been using on a regular the Chebeauty Chebe Hair Butter and this will be my staple. It’s GREAT!!!
I got the natural hair grease African Hair God uses. I’m going old school this winter and use it to silk press my hair. We used to use it when getting our hair pressed and our natural hair snapped back.
When I was a loose natural, I went back to using blue magic. My twist outs were perfect! My hair was so much more manageable. My thinking was that, when I was a child, my hair was fine. If it ain't broke don't fix it right?!
The blue Ultra Sheen was my jam. It's hard to find, but when i do, i buy a couple. I also am using Dax Indian Hemp. Love the ingredients and nice smell. And for those who like to do a press out, a creme press is best. Not grease. Again, for me. Ultra Sheen Creme Press is my first choice. Kera Care has a good one, but I add the Kera Care Wax Stick for a longer press and hold. Anything with beeswax is good for your hair. A natural and beautiful emollient. Get with a bee keeper on that one.
I use grease I've never stop and I'm over 40. I use Blue Magic Coconut and Sulfer8, I use them on my scalp on wash day and that's it, I don't break them out again until my next wash day or my scalp gets itchy because I missed my wash day. I use grease on my scalp and creams and oils on my hair and ends to seal my ends. My hair was relaxed for most of my life, transition to natural 2x in the last 5-years, so there has been a lot of trims, each transition took me a year to get all my relaxed hair off. Been over 2-years full natural and my hair is the longest it's ever been. I credit you (Jenn) for a video long ago where you said, something about, your hair is going to grow, protect your end and you will retain length. And, that's what I do, get my scalp protected and cared for on wash day and the send the rest of week keeping my ends moisturized and protected so they don't break off. I love me some grease, my family is has really bad dandruff got worse for all of us when we moved to a different climate, which is I use Sulfer8, between that, Selsun Blue, and Tree Tea Oil, I've been able to help most the family get rid of their flakes if they use what I use, they are still working on the regularly part. The other best advice that you (Jenn) and others gave to me so far is "do what's works for you", which I why I never changed, I was too scared to stop doing what was working for me, if I wasn't retaining length, I probably would have tried it.
i've been using it for a while now, i dont use it on my scalp however. but i got the best results using it for my mini twists (less knotting, less dryness, etc compared to using creams, oils, or gels). Now that i've big chopped my hair quite short, i use it mostly after washing, just a little bit. i wash more frequently now as well
Stopped using oils and butters and lost hair! Back to it again.. Grease was what our parents used for our thriving beautiful hair as kids..I don’t know if I can follow another trend though.
Wow the timing of this video is impeccable 😅. My daughter is turning one soon and I’m like should I use grease or oil for her as some what as a pre poo a few hours or night night before shampooing her hair.
For me the key is using formulated butter and leaving in with oils. And not the raw stuff. Definitely not going back to that, but also not only using gels. 😊
Ok so I never used grease when I was younger. I was a PINK moisturizer kid. And I never ever tried that no oils and butter trend because I know my hair better than that lol. But I started using Blue Magic a few months ago and my hair has literally NEVER retained moisture so well. I’ve always struggled with dry and brittle hair and I’m so excited about this!
Jenn you remind me of the young lady in the Nollywood movie Not My Sister 🧐🤔😏😎😊 Bronner Bros Super Gro with coconut oil and Lond Aid K7 hair and scalp conditioner(for pressing hair especially)was my go to back in the day. Just using olive oil, Jojoba oil flaxseed oil and vitamin E for hair instead. (Jojoba oil more closely resembles natural hair sebum) Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏽💐💜😀
i went back to grease! I noticed a grease scarcity laterly. Went to $ store, all the grease was gone. Went to a few more stores, no grease! I was Royal Crown jonesing. Finally broke down and bought a jar of cocoa butter Vaseline. I do 2 strand twists, slather on curl custard and "coat" my strands with grease! I went back to some of my ole' school favs: LIV, VitaPoint, Pink oil and Grease!
I use grease(Sulfur 8) on wash day. I treat my scalp with it. I allow it to sit on my scalp for 1 hour. After allow the grease to sit, I shampoo my scalp and hair. I follow with deep conditioning my hair for 30 minutes. After washing out my deep conditioner, I use hair cream leave in conditioner and hair butter(on my ends) to style(twists all over my head). Then I top that with hair oil. Hair grease is important to my hair care and it has its place in the regimen.
I never stopped using grease, or oils, or butters. I am on my 2nd set of locs and I still use grease as needed. The grease I grew up on and still use is Royal Crown. ❤. Lol just got to the part where you said delete that comment sis. 😂 Jen love you.
@@dumfriesspearhead7398 it’s great. My hair has gotten thicker and longer. I use it once a week on clean hair and scalp. I also used it while my hair was in protective styles.
14 years natural and I went back to grease. It did feel like I was doing something illegal 😂but it really helped my hair to retain moisture on wash days (I never use it on my sensitive scalp).
lol the way my hair set up i definitely didn’t drop it 😂 but im not going to lie… I thought about it. But I NEED GREASE!!! My scalp just cannot survive! I have stopped with so much oil though. I use a light one to seal twist and take down but not nearly as much as I used to!

grease on your ends when you're installing braids is top tier split end protection 👌
Yes, it keeps your from drying out while you're wearing braids.
Yes. I cut my hair an inch short and hated it. So I decided to braid it up for a year. So I used a leave in and grease then installed the braids. A year later healthy hair, no split ends.
The way Blue Magic got my hair in a chokehold 😮💨 Imma stick beside it
It has always worked for me. I'm loyal
Me too! My hair is a lot more manageable, it doesn’t need a lot just a tad bit after oil!
Which one do you use?
@@staceyshere the original formula. It's the blue one.
How are you using the grease?
We were wrong about grease, oils, and butters definitely. Our natural oil doesn't reach the end so we don't get as much lubrication that we would from using these. I never thought it made sense to go without em lol as long as we clarify regularly and moisturize properly first
@@ShesSoDesi yeah sounds like most had a washing problem
I definitely had a washing problem. Doing 2 rounds of shampooing each wash day has changed everything for my hair
So the question is what are you lady’s using for shampoo/clarifying and moisturizing?
I never stopped using grease. It definitely doesn’t grow the hair, but I enjoy the softness and texture it give when using after shampooing and conditioning. Thx for the video
Hi there, what do you used for shampoo/clarifying and moisturizing?
What are using for shampoo/clarifying and moisturizing?
The blue magic super gro works with growing my hair along with water intake and great dieting.

Why would I stop cause someone else said to 😅😅😅...
Most people with good sense didn’t.
I have a dry skin and I can not afford to let my scalp free of grease
@@Edvanaultme either. Grease keeps my scalp from itching and adds extra moisture to the hair.

I don't use grease, but a hair butter never did me wrong.
I wonder if it has to do with the hairs porosity? 🤔
Hi there, what do use for shampoo and moisturizing?
I started going back to grease slowly. I keep the oils as well when just needing to put on scalp when wearing braids. But, you're right. Grease holds moisture longer. Going back to the basics with some newly learned methods definitely won't hurt.
I love non petroleum hair grease. There are so many good ones from companies like Natural Oasis, G Naturals, Kemistry Organics and Naturelle Grow. A little goes a long way and I never have oil all over my pillowcases. I never have buildup and it's not hard to wash out. My retention is great and my hair stays so soft.
I never stopped

I’ve been using hair grease and oils, and my hair has been soft and growing
Thanks for sharing!!
@@JennJackson your welcome
Hi there, how does the rest of your regimen look?
What I learned from the No oil/butter movement was to clarify my hair. I think we can use the oils/butters as long as we ensure we r washing them off completely and allowing our tresses hydration through shampooing. Once that’s done then proceed with slathering the oils/butters on again and style as desired. Those r just my thoughts on it
But are we supposed to clarify each wash day when using grease? If so, would that be too much?
I mean… allegedly it works for a lot of people but I had to find out for myself 😅
My hair and avocado oil are in a deeply committed relationship and together they are thriving.
my oils and my thick styling creams get on famously with my hair, they have been together for a short time but already they are well matched and happy together. i foresee a lengthy union, maybe even a golden jubilee

Do tell what you use please.

I still use oil on my scalp though! And I love natures blessing bc it is the most forgiving grease if you get a lil carried away.
@@kam1776hi there, what does the rest of your regimen look like? what do you use to shampoo and moisturizer?
Loved the editing! Super fun🤣👍
Hi there, what kind of grease do you use and what does the rest of your regimen look like?😊
@@krystalmarie5637 Nature's Blessings Hair Grease and Design Essentials grease.
For the rest of my hair regimen, I use Sienna Naturals.
I really appreciate you still making hair content even if you’re slowly moving away from the topic. I’ve been watching you for years since I was a confused teen trying to learn about my 4c hair and now a young adult confident in my routine ❤️
I’d love to see your journey of incorporating grease into your routine!
I been thinking about going back to grease again!
I love these little chats 😊
Listen Jenn, I’ve been watching your content for a while now. And when you dropped oils and butters, I didn’t hop on that tip. But I did watch out of curiosity 😅
Yes, I've gone back to my hair grease. I'm loving it.
We are a grease household ..one of my favorite memories is picking the scent of grease I wanted when I went to the beauty supply with my mom 😅
Since we are talking about going back to the basics…. I hope braiders will understand that’s it’s so much easier to braid UNSTRECHED natural hair. 😓
Been using grease for a year and my hair is at its best!
Do you use it with a leave in?
@@mintind73 I do. I haven't tried it without leave in conditioner.
I’m all for hair grease but I can’t use it due to having seborrheic dermatitis. It makes my scalp itch like crazy. I just wash, deep condition and keep my hair hydrated during the week with water and my hair is fine.
@@Lifewithpmdd just water?
(It still does feel a bit crispier for my tastes though, compared to a braid out and such)
So glad you brought up vaseline, because vaseline is safe to be used on adult and baby skin and grease is basically coloured vaseline with maybe a couple more things for scent and conditioning.
Also, my hair literally absorbs oil and grease, so I find that if I use the right amount and let it dry, I'm not having any issues with my hair actually being greasy and sticky.
Also for all the people saying "we? No you"; obvs the we is those of us who had stopped using grease for whatever reason lol.
Yes, using too much and never thoroughly cleansing the hair!
I still use grease. Never stopped. It has always worked. Grease and water do wonders for coily hair.
Yeeesss ! That’s it, that’s all , grease and water
I've been using amla oil and hair grease since I was a child and have neva stopped.
I thought those were for permed hair! Thanks for the tips, I'll try them 🇬🇭🇬🇧
@@msboro No problem!
@@shanchip1 Thank you
Agreed. I had bought my brother a tresemme set from the dollar store to help him out. I noticed how shiny and soft his hair was getting. Tried it for myself and was surprised. Had to get it for myself.
That's great Jenn! Would love to seenyour journey with grease if you decide to use it!
yes we were very wrong about grease
I’m actually so mad I stopped I’m back using grease & my 1 month results are impressive!!!
That’s what a lot of people say. Glad you had something in your arsenal that helped
And touching your hair?...leaning on something?... not for me. I really can't imagine using grease with a wash n go at all... except on ends of hair... possibly.
And how do you use grease properly? Give us a video Jenn❤ much love sis
You look amazing by the way❤️😍
Meanwhile there was never a probelm with oils, butters,or grease.
I 👏🏽 NEVER 👏🏽 STOPPED 👏🏽 and no, it never made sense to do so !
I’m doing the same thing. Thick butters and creams & no gels.
My mom used hair grease on my hair, I used it on my girls and my daughter uses it on my two granddaughters- we never stopped.
My 4c locs love kuza hemp hair grease ❤
“Back to grease.” That’s funny. 😂 You’re such an amicable young lady.
Jenn you remind me of the young lady in the Nollywood movie Not My Sister 🧐🤔😏😎😊
Bronner Bros Super Gro with coconut oil and Lond Aid K7 hair and scalp conditioner(for pressing hair especially)was my go to back in the day. Just using olive oil, Jojoba oil flaxseed oil and vitamin E for hair instead. (Jojoba oil more closely resembles natural hair sebum)
Thanks for sharing.
🙏🏽💐💜😀
i went back to grease!
Not a scarcity! Thats crazy
Have you tried Qhemet Biologics MSM and Rosemary hair pomade? You may change your mind about hair grease not growing your hair.
I've been thinking about getting it. Have you tried it? If so, how is it going?
@@dumfriesspearhead7398 it’s great. My hair has gotten thicker and longer. I use it once a week on clean hair and scalp. I also used it while my hair was in protective styles.
We are big fans of grease over here! ☺💙
14 years natural and I went back to grease. It did feel like I was doing something illegal 😂but it really helped my hair to retain moisture on wash days (I never use it on my sensitive scalp).
Oh tell me more - do you feel the need to remoisturize midweek? How about buildup?
I definitely love hair grease. On my ends is how I can prolong getting a trim (and keeping the combs to a minimum).
lol the way my hair set up i definitely didn’t drop it 😂 but im not going to lie… I thought about it. But I NEED GREASE!!! My scalp just cannot survive! I have stopped with so much oil though. I use a light one to seal twist and take down but not nearly as much as I used to!
When you think about it, what is oils and butters? I would save a level of grease. Just saying❤
