- The Great Mosque of Samarra has a spiral minaret, which is made of sandstone. 52 metres high and 33 metres wide at the base, the spiral contains stairs reaching the top. This spiral minaret is an architectural rarity characteristic of the Abbasid design.
Commissioned in 848 and completed in 851 CE under the patronage of Abbasid Caliph, Al-Mutawakkil, the Great Mosque holds historical significance.
