    I just bought my first EUC, an S18, earlier this week, got one of the second batch models. The range is decent enough, and the suspension just feels awesome. I live in a small town in NorCal, with a ton of hilly, neglected roads, not a lot of sidewalks, and some off-road shortcuts here and there.
    Today I felt confident enough to take it around town. And it was the most fun I've had exploring my town in the many years I've lived here. It handled EVERYTHING I threw at it, and I'm not even that great a rider yet. I just wanted to keep going, but my legs were getting shaky, the weather was starting to turn, and my parents needed me for a favor.
    Seeing your verdict, as well as Wrong Way's recent videos about how he maybe misjudged the S18 at first, I'm feeling even more confident in my decision. Plus it seems a lot of V11 owners are reporting some issues. But yeah, once you get it dialed in, the suspension is a joy. So much fun to take off-road. I just love this thing. I got home an hour ago and I'm still smiling about how much fun I had. Can't wait to take it everywhere.

    I think this video answers a slightly different question: "Which wheel has the best suspension?" as opposed to "Which suspension wheel is the best EUC?". And it does appear that the type of suspension system that the S18 uses provides a great ride and one with fewer hassles. At the time I was going to buy an S18 I didn't (yet) have a long range wheel so I got a Sherman instead. Now that I have a small (14D), medium (16X) and large (Sherman) wheel, I'd be less reluctant to get the S18 now because I'd see it as a specialty wheel and NOT my daily driver. This video helped to put my personal needs in perspective. Good job.

    • @shoakman
      @shoakman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 14D! Are there any reasons you'd pick to choose a large wheel over the medium one? Or vice versa?

    • @chrischaput
      @chrischaput 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shoakman I have larger wheels because they have bigger battery packs and therefore greater range. I ride with other people for more than 60 miles at a time and if charging isn't an options you need a Sherman or wheel with a huge pack to complete the trip The EX is currently the only suspension wheel with a high end range.

    • @PaulA-pm3gx
      @PaulA-pm3gx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@evXNYC Yes, think 2k Wh would be ideal for range. Elon Musk was talking about them making a major breakthrough with battery technology that increases energy density.

    Totally agree. S18 is great. Kingsong were really good to me too, basically replaced the whole thing after I ruined it after a week (in a lake). They even took extra time and care to correct parts I called out as potential issues. They took the warrenty claim over internally after my Chinese reseller failed. Amazing. I got mine up and running again and couldn't be happier. Range is easily enough for what it's built for :), and close to v11 anyway. Such a great comparison! Thanks Mickey, I know a lot of people are dying for more comparative content between these wheels. Suspension is a very exciting development! I think it's real neat that each manufacturer went such different directions.
    Just nitpicking here, but the EX has a progressive curve too. By nature, air pistons have a progressive force vs travel curve (vs a linear coil spring shock).
    NERD ALERT! More on air shocks: the volume of the positive air chamber will affect how progressive the curve is - the smaller the volume, the more progressive and vice versa, larger volume, more linear. The negative chamber does a couple things: one is assist the compression of the shock for an initial portion of the travel (against friction inherent in the seals and such, that would not be present on a coil spring shock). The other thing a negative chamber can help with is provide some top-out cushioning. The volume of the negative air chamber will affect how much of the travel it will assist against friction - larger will assist for a longer portion of a travel, leading to a more plush feeling shock. It's a double-edged sword though, since a larger negative chamber also means the the negative chamber is less progressive, and will provide less top-out cushion.
    Sorry for nerding out so much! I've been tinkering a ton with my S18 and different shocks and stuff. I have a couple other videos in my todo list, but I'm definitely thinking about a super nerdy S18 video, too =]

      First generations of V11 had a smoother and faster to transfer heat type of bearing, but if left wet, they make a grinding noise unless lubricated. Newer V11 are provided with rubber sealed bearings. So it depends of what V11 you have. I mess a lot with my vehicles and have no issues with lubricating bearings but understand why Inmotion decided to change them. To me a solid built (not as a toy) and using good LG battery cells are way more important characteristics when choosing an EUC on the expensive range.

    Interesting video but is it good to get a suspension wheel at all? The owners of both the S18 and V11 always seem to be complaining of problems while the EX is too new to get any reliability feedback but having a hollow motor suggests the EX is going to have issues in the future with the bearings. It would also be interesting to have some comparison to how much better suspension is compared to current wheels with the larger 3" width tyres which use the tyre for a little "suspension". Maybe attaching a device to measure bumps on a standard route? Like Le says below the acceleration and braking test isn't that useful as it stands but having a simple timed run from standing start up to a brick wall 30m away would give a simple number that could be compared to other wheels. It's a thought anyway.

And already put a dent in my "adjustable" pedals going up a small ramped curb, making them no longer adjustable. I really wanted to love this wheel, but :( I think the V11 is the winner for me.

    The small battery in the S18 helps with keeping the weight low. Lots of plastic parts keeps the weight down. So the S18 was definitely build for jumping. I also think the S18 is not build for heavy people. I feel the S18 deserves a better battery (not bigger) and stronger motor (not bigger).
    The V11 is definitely a city wheel. Great for night rides with that headlight. And the V11 is useable in lots of situations.
    The Ex is build like a tank. Except for the suspension part. The suspension looks very fragile. The hulking motor will definitely help bigger guys. But the Ex itself is just too heavy and not very nimble for lighter people. This limits its use. I am heavy. Part of it is my big strong lower body. So the Ex should be a good match for me.
    Quality wise...each wheel has its own shortcomings. I hope the second revision of these suspension wheels will fix a lot of these problems.

    Dear evX, suspension maybe but I disagree with your final thoughts because you considered just "some" of the rest of the design that is needed for a great experience with suspension. How good can be an off-road suspension when is mounted over an EUC with a common axle motor? I mean, how long can it last if you really make use of it as an off-road vehicle? You may jump all you want but using a generic axle weakened by holes for the cables in one side, does not sound a great to me. Material fatigue will show up eventually, unless used only in the city and casual dirt trails (for which the suspension is no longer needed much). Great suspension without an overall design that fits it, is not for me, specially at the high prices of these vehicles. The KS18S does not even have a cooling fan (forced cooling system) to be able to face serious off-roading. As you said, it is up to the type of use. I love off-roading (the real deal, not just off-street in dirt trails) and thus, I prefer a suspension that is protected (not exposed as the KS18S), power when needed, good autonomy (battery vs motor efficiency), redundancy wherever possible, I need an active cooling system and of course an improved axle system that can deal with the tricks I do with the suspension.
    IMO, the V11 is the winner and by far. It is not build as a toy, I can adjust it also for the city, even the height of the pedals and check again its motor power... you mentioned its "nominal" power, not the level you used when braking hard (on that use, the V11 can be on the 5000W). For your test when braking, I would rather have compared the distance to brake at the same speed instead of the time (more useful to understand why we SHOULD NOT GO FAST in an EUC). "Emergency braking distance" is top in my list of priorities when choosing an EUC or any vehicle. I am so thankful of you taking the "braking capability" in consideration. Not many youtubers do that. Most just compare EUCs by their battery capacity and max speed (listed on the paper). Instead you added a more mature approach (safety). Thanks for that.
    IMO, the EX only for the city, comfortable for long range at moderated speed (to be safe due to its braking limitations) despite personally I would never buy an EUC with "panasonic" battery cells glued with double sided tape. The KS18S as a fun EUC, for short trips on dirt trails or commuting in not so great roads (as in my country). For real Off-Road as well as the best multipurpose EUC, the V11 is the clear winner when checking all the design.

    Funny how this what I mentioned and you EvX said to me on that v11 live dissamebly video at alien rides, "v11 is better period". Meanwhile I was like people open your dam eyes... S18 is on top, it's better designed, better thoughts. Only draw back the little battery which will likely be coremrected at some point or at least have 2 versions. And the linkage, yah Kingston will likely tune that as well or you can do it yourself. Anyway, "I told you".
