The Box is more or less the same price as the Leviathan box but contains much higher point values then Leviathan did. Depending on how points might change with the new edition, these are more then 1000 Points each and actually playable (as opposed to getting totally mismatching Heroes / Units in Leviathan) Stormcast did somehow resemble Space marines early on, but these new Sculpts are much more their own identity. And FYI purity seals origin from Warhammer Fantasy, especially Flagellants, so having them on AOS miniatures makes more sense, then 40k adapting them :P

I think the idea of the terrain is that if you get 4 pieces in the GW style your more likely to buy more in the GW style to match then to buy other sets.
- A single evening at the restaurant and going out for drinks is 100$ CAD, easy. - A single AAA videogame is 89$ CAD + taxes, easy. - A single box of 40K Combat Patrol is now 200$ here in Canada. For like 15-20 miniatures. - With Skaventide, for 300$, I'm getting weeks (if not months) of hobby time. Assembling, airbrushing, painting, playing - not to mention the time to enjoy reading both books cover to cover. These new edition starter boxes for AoS/40K are BY FAR the best value-for-money products sold by Games Workshop. Period. Auspex Tactics made a value breakdown, and ballparked the regular MSRP for individual components at around 900$, and that's not including the terrain and some of the Spearhead cards. I will also note that this channel made a "what to buy for KillTeam in 2024" video about 3 months ago, in which you said the Octarius box offered great value. That Octarius box was 240$ CAD, and included objectively way less in terms of gameplay and hobby elements.
I think they rumbled about the textures because they want new people to buy contrast paints more often. Texture is what all the youtube channels talk about when painting with contrast, and for new people understanding what texture is isn't probably the easiest job ever (?), so mentioning that your minis have good and interesting textures, will help you sell your expensiver than gold paints
The ratling Warpblaster as well as the Sniper rats has a big tank of warpstone gas that compresses in the gun into bullets It is why u also see the snipers having tanks on their back. so no squirt just boollet
the reasons the gryphhounds look different cuz they are different breeds of the creatures according to the lore in the description The one with the lord veritant is called a Gryph-crow
"It's the launch box and they should cut you a deal" is a wild thing to say when already play warhammer and openly admit you get not a little but alot more than the 40k 10th box...you get the ghb with it. So for 15 bucks more, you get 14 more models 4 terrain pieces and a generals handbook. It gets old hearing 40k players feel like 'My games more popular and if you want me to even look at your game, you have to sell me more than leviathan for 80 bucks, because I deserve it and I play the more popular game.' Look into AoS more as it sells out of kits and sits out of stock not as much as 40k but it's not far behind.
Yeah I agree with you on his take.. I had to stop watching because it felt so entitled. Like you said it's $15 bucks more than Levi was and we get more models and terrain for Spearhead. Like what else do you want lmao
"aos is the cheap baby game not like my COOL BIG KID WARHAMMER" is the entire energy of that segment of the video and its fuckin insufferable holy shit
7:12 the new gryphhound doesn't look like the other gryphhounds, cause it's actually a gryphcrow, which steals souls i think??? it's a totally different thing, trust me same with the big mounts, where they have gryphhorses, gryphlions, gryph dragons & dragon lions & actual dragons. it's just the same 3 animals remixed
15:15 Gatling guns/miniguns have the extra barrels so they can cool down before having to fire again. It’s still just one “chamber” that all the shots are going through. The fire rate would melt a barrel if it were just one, but now you have 1/6th the heat generation from the 6 barrels instead!
0:45 “they had the reveal that there would later be a reveal. But now we’re later!” This absolutely feels like it comes from Space Balls “When will then be now?” “Soon…”
I just got back into Miniature painting and Warhammer stuff after moving to Tokyo and leaving my stuff behind in Germany. So since I was into 40k I thought it's cool to go more into AoS since I also saw a new edition coming out soon and got a box of the regular dudes from Seraphon. That pricetag for this box is insane if it's true. I also think it would be better to keep this box on a lower end ( yeah maybe make a loss ) but get people into it make them buy then more stuff afterwards. Colors, more miniatures etc. I just dropped a few hundred to get all the tools and colors again -.- now this box is so much?
I *LOVE* this Launch Box! Sure, it might be pretty expensive, but I know that I'm getting *everything* that I need to start 4th edition. Including the year's Generals Handbook for matched play. I'm also very excited for the Stormcast, I think you're being a bit too sour on them, I think the modern Stormcast look has drifted alot further from Space Marines than you claim. And I think you should really compare the new Stormcast to the old sculpts they're replacing, the Liberators, Prosecutors, Knight-Questor and Lord-Veritant look *SO* much better than their original iterations, far more than the "15%" you claim in the video. Also, I hope you realize that the "edgey armor" on some of these new Stormcast is supposed to represent the ones closest to losing their humanity. That's why they have skulls on their shields instead of the usual stylized Sigmar face. Also, the Reclusians have one-handed axes(styalized ones at that if you compare them to the other Stormcast with axes in this box) while the Praetors have Halberds/Poleaxes, which are completely different weapons. Finally, there's not "3 different eras of Gryph-Hound." The Gryph-Hounds we got in 3rd edition werent wearing radically different armor like the Thunderstrike Stormcast, the Lord-Imperitant from Dominion had a Gryph Hound with an armored head, but thats it. The Gryph-Hounds that came with the Knight Judicator were just in more dynamic poses, but they were still just regular Gryph-Hounds. Finally, the Lord-Veritant's companion isn't a "Gryph-Hound" it's called a "Gryph-Crow" yes, I'm going to be that pedantic. My last point is about the Skaven, I think you're being a bit too hard on the Rat Ogors. They're *supposed* to be Frankenstein mutants, so the separation of fur and flesh just sells that effect of them being horrid abominations, to me at least.
the models look cool and if I liked the factions better I would maybe get it but nothing will beat the Dino dudes for me , so it looks like they will be my first AOS Army
Those terrain pieces are specifically for the Spearhead mode, which you get everything you need for in this box , a playmat and a hard cover book with the rules. So this box is more than 2 armies + core rules , it also includes everything you need to get started for the new mode, this is why i think its better than Dominion , it has that new player appeal.
Jay cant wrap his head around the fact that space marines being influenced by medieval aesthetics means that the literal medieval fantasy knights are gonna also be medieval knights lmao
Someone might have already mentioned this, but multi barrel weapons are usually built for heat dissipation, letting the recently fired barrel cool down before having it rotating back around for an other shot. You might be thinking of a revolver handgun when considering rotating recharging, but in those cases you usually have only one barrel. Also I think it's meant to fire Warp-stone instead of ooze, but not quite sure on that point.
On the topic of what the other 50% of the newer Stormcast design is: it’s Chaos Warriors. They look like Chaos Warriors. The belts, the feathered cloaks, the chainmail, the weapons wrapped in strips of fabric, the armor plates on the sides of the thighs… it’s all classic Chaos Warrior design elements, smoothed out and given a celestial finish. I’ll eat my hat if they were not a major inspiration behind the Thunderstrike design. I’m certainly not against this, btw, Chaos Warriors are one of GW’s most beloved and striking classic designs for a reason. They are exactly what I’d go for if asked to create “space marines, but for fantasy.” At this point, most of the original “hoplite space marine” design idea has been removed in favor of “Order Warriors,” and it is probably for the better.
You mentioned them saying stormcast is all dark and grit and that they’re trying to push the narrative of them losing a bit of themselves each time they die. That’s always been a thing tho…. They’ve always been that way for all stormcast
I recently purchased Dominion for a really good price. I have yet to build and paint them. I’m wanting to start a Stormcast Army because I also have an Arena of Shades box set. I’m going to do some research regarding the new Stormcast that are being added and seeing if I can kitbash a proxy for them and paint them up with the new colour scheme.
I'm gearing up to paint these and I would really really love to watch one of your videos as inspirations. My play group are into age of sigmar and so I'm I'm using the same bases as the orc player so that I can say I'm conquering the swamp. I hope you have a lovely day
11:00 The liberators are just hallowed knights. Not part of the guys who are on the verge of losing themselves. So the reclusians, veritant, terminus and the guy on the gryph are the ones more close to losing themselves. I want to say the prosecutors aren’t either but their wings are kind of 50/50
GW tried the low cost starter boxes with Battle for Skull Pass and Battle for Macragge. Those were like 40 euros each, but they didn’t have a full hardcover rulebook. Skull Pass had over 100 models so it was great value even if most of them were goblins. Macragge wasted the space with those crashed lander bits. You could say the newer small starter boxes are kinda same idea.
In Australia- Dominion was about 286.00 - it was 190 as you state for your area. If we go off that and the information you have stated. 260.00 for the prize - so the skaventide box for Australia is likely to be a 400 dollar entry price.
@8:20 lifting your leg even just a little bit helps a lot of the blood that has pooled in your legs to flow back to your heart. Trust me, when you've been standing for a few hours, or walking for a few hours carrying heavy packs, the best thing in the world is to put one of your legs on a thing on the ground to get the blood flowing away from your legs.
I was annoyed at first by the stormcast squats but if you look through the codex for them there is so much redudancy in 3rd eidtion. It's a good idea to narrow those options down instead of having 3 different units who all have hammers on foot. It's what they should've down with Space Marines this edition.
The price that people are assuming based on those terms and conditions is about what we should expect based on their past boxes like Dominion. This box has two expensive hardcover books, rule cards, and terrain on top of a slightly bigger model count than Dominion. Add on the recent GW price hike and it’s right what we should expect.
Also it’s two spearhead units plus some extra models for both sides. the price would be worth at a minimum of $240 just on the fact it’s two spearhead units, being $120 a piece based on the pricing of the SCE spearhead box and the cities of sigmar spearhead. Idk seems fair if you consider any of games workshops other prices fair
I suspect the lower price point would have been difficult with the two books, the Minis are a *lot* cheaper for GW to make, they can throw them in to make the whole package look like a sweater deal. I would also guess that we will see some lower cost entry points into the game like we saw with the last edition.
I think the paintjob hurts the rat ogres I reckon they're a lot cooler than they look. But the old box is so unbelievably ugly maybe I'm biased. My faves are the ones that came in the Fantasy Battles Isle of blood box. They're so monopose but just brilliant iconic poses.
Given that you get more than two Spearheads worth of models ($140 each), the AoS core rule book ($70), the Spearhead book ($50-$60), 1 sprue terrain ($60), 1 game board ($30), and assorted accessories (cards, measuring sticks, etc...), if you needed at least most of it, it's not a horrible deal (considering GW prices). The rest you could sell below retail to try and make some of your money back. Or go in with someone else and split the cost based on how much of the box each person is getting.
In you're already in the hobby sure, as a pick up & get started box that is quite a step buy-in price. Which could easily be cut down by replacing that weak and massively overpriced terrain by a sheet of cardstock buildings. Then again GW doesn't seem to care about the onboarding of new players anyway..........
@@JohnathanJWells Further counterpoint The whole battletome/Codex system is old and tired. Rules should be online and UPDATED FREQUENTLY. That avoids the whole 'codex being out of date before it even launches' crap GW have been doing for years.
I absolutely love the non-basic new Stormcast. Yndrasta was my first Stormcast model and was stoked to hear the new ones would be more like her. The basic Stormcast have a weird helmet to me, with the pronounced nose, not a big fan of that. If we get new rattling guns, I’ll have to get a couple for my shelf, they are one of my favorite units in TW3.
Reclusians have two handed axes and Praetors have halberds so there is the difference there, but I do think they are very similar and wish they made them a tad different
And just to make that clear, the price was set to 265 USD if bought directly from GW, the content is worth roughly 750 USD if you would buy the content individually, even considering getting Spearhead Boxes, etc. The 2 Hardcover Books, the board, terrian and the Card Sets for Spearhead and GHB are easily worth the full price of the Box as opposed to buying them seperate. And then you get like 70+ Miniatures for free.
Lord Terminos is so special he found a tactical rock on the battlefield so large that he can fit both his boots, allowing him to finally place his hands over the end of the battleaxe's hilt.
the terrain in the box is for the Spearhead format included in it... 11:40 the losing personality through reforge thing isn't new. It's been there at least since i started playing in 2nd edition. What's new is the Ruination chamber guys, who consist of veterans this happened to as ofter as to complete that journey. They already lost virutally all of their humanity.
Ive been collecting sce since release, i have just about every model in the range outside of the commemorative ones, and I love the new models and sculpts. My dad was collecting skaven for ages but i inherited all of his armies and he genuinely might have had all the skaven models, including a few dozen metal jezzails, so honestly for me around 250 is worth it
So the price point is not only two armies the core book and the spearhead board/terrian/rule cards. But you also get the Generals hand book which is for competitive play right at the start of the edition. Am I defending the price point? No it’s pretty high but you do get your moneys worth compared to last edition since the GHB was later on and like $40-$50? (It’s been a minute since I played) so it’s nice it’s in the launch box.
Got dominion for a hundred on Amazon well after its launch, would not have gotten had the price not been halved so you make a good point. I wonder if their new price increase is affected the prices difference between them
Sounds like a bad take, box is giving you so much more than 40k box and yet its a bad value? It sounds like your only reason for harping on the value of the box (without even listing all of its contents) is because you play 40k so it should be cheaper. The argument is bad because if AoS was more popular people wouldnt expect the 40k starters to be cheaper just because its less popular.
You took the take wrongly. He is saying 40k has a much higher player base. If you want to intice new players you will do so better with a lower point of entry.
@@jestinkimmet5042 I see what you're saying, but you are ignoring the fact that You already get MORE per dollar than 40k box and he is saying they should give you a discount because its not 40k. Thats not taking it wrongly its understanding the value per box content, and him making the correlation of, even though you are giving me more I want it for less if you want me to consider buying it. Switch it around and it doesnt make sense either, the argument is Give me less charge me more because AoS is less of a player base.
The Skaven look fantastic. They’re what’s going to move this boxed set. The Stormcast look like they’re in the box to facilitate a range refresh. The troops look better than the old sculpts, but don’t knock my socks off. The characters have character, but since I’m Not a huge fan of the faction it’s a bit meh.
There's a Dominion box at my FLGS that just won't go away... Feels like the new box is going to be expensive for sure, and I can understand why. They're trying to position Spearhead almost as it's own game, and turning this into a "2 for 1" box. It's just unlikely that most people would see the value there. Consider it like a new warcry boxset or kill team boxset and the price starts to make a bit more sense I guess? I dunno. I hope it's not that expensive. and there's always the follow-up starter sets that should be more reasonably priced
Scaven power all their tech with wyrdstone (warpstone) all their guns shoot wyrdstone irradiated stone shards. The pipes on the gatling gun is just a link to the wyrdstone power source in the back.
I don’t actually mind this box set. My mind is conflicting two try and play which Wargaming. And. Somehow. The trailer of Sigmar Lies, really gave me a perspective of seeing the Stormcasts being reforged with the cost. As such, the revamp of the Skaven. The mass numbers, the Yes-Yes, the jazzlock magepunk-steampunk rule of cool.
Anyone considered that the tactical rock is actually part of the armour? Like it just goes with them wherever they walk so when they stop they are always standing in an epic pose?
Great video! I’m wanting to get more into AOS with Spearhead, but I’m afraid that the vanguard boxes will be fully changed with the spearhead name change..has there been any word on that? I’d get a non-storm cast starter, but that ain’t happening.
That little wendigo model you randomly pulled from hod knows where is incredible! Is it conversion? Or bought from somewhere? Great video, mate! Oh, gatling guns rotate barrels for barrel cooling as well as reloading! :)
Twitch chat is roasting every GW preview, so it doesn't matter. It's good that pre-recorded reveals allow to have subtitles and they get to the point without pointless chat and pauses between new things. People come to see new shit, not to see two guys chatting between each other.
Oh this is a hard box for me. Im a skaven player and a stprmcast player friend wants to split it, but i already have a grey seer, a few warlock engineers and too many clan rats. I wish it had more pestilens, eshin or moulder representation.
I love all the characters of the stormcast so I will probably try just get them and convert them to SOMETHING in 40K (not sure what yet!) and I think the axe guys might have to be used for some of SoB crusaders or something
Love your videos Jay ! You got me in WH40K Combat Patrol (well painting Combat Patrols :) ). Just found a deal for brand new Dominion box for like 125$. Would that be worth it or are the Stormcasters changing too much ? Wouldn't play in stores or tournaments, well not for a while.

The ratling Warpblaster as well as the Sniper rats has a big tank of warpstone gas that compresses in the gun into bullets
It is why u also see the snipers having tanks on their back.
so no squirt just boollet
the reasons the gryphhounds look different cuz they are different breeds of the creatures according to the lore in the description
The one with the lord veritant is called a Gryph-crow
Should be a Crowhound surely.
@@boltgunmetal Should be, but as much as i try to defend AoS worldbuilding i cant defend GWs skill with names
I misread that as "Griffcow".🐄

Damn Jay, that Wendigo looks really good
"It's the launch box and they should cut you a deal" is a wild thing to say when already play warhammer and openly admit you get not a little but alot more than the 40k 10th box...you get the ghb with it. So for 15 bucks more, you get 14 more models 4 terrain pieces and a generals handbook. It gets old hearing 40k players feel like 'My games more popular and if you want me to even look at your game, you have to sell me more than leviathan for 80 bucks, because I deserve it and I play the more popular game.'
Look into AoS more as it sells out of kits and sits out of stock not as much as 40k but it's not far behind.
7:12 the new gryphhound doesn't look like the other gryphhounds, cause it's actually a gryphcrow, which steals souls i think??? it's a totally different thing, trust me
same with the big mounts, where they have gryphhorses, gryphlions, gryph dragons & dragon lions & actual dragons. it's just the same 3 animals remixed
But now we’re later!”
This absolutely feels like it comes from Space Balls
“When will then be now?”
“Soon…”
Hard to make a loss when often the boxes cost more to produce than the models themselves.
4th Edition Box looks awesome.
I really like the most recent reveal-show. I wish there was even more conversation with the designers and studio staff, but I really enjoyed it!
The generals handbook is in there too which hasn't been in any of the starter boxes before.
I picked one up for 174 at my local store. I've always wanted to try skaven and this seemed like a good price.
Jay cant wrap his head around the fact that space marines being influenced by medieval aesthetics means that the literal medieval fantasy knights are gonna also be medieval knights lmao
I came to the same conclusion
Someone might have already mentioned this, but multi barrel weapons are usually built for heat dissipation, letting the recently fired barrel cool down before having it rotating back around for an other shot. You might be thinking of a revolver handgun when considering rotating recharging, but in those cases you usually have only one barrel. Also I think it's meant to fire Warp-stone instead of ooze, but not quite sure on that point.
The static grass does actually look really cool - it gives more dimension and life to the model!
Definitely want to see that grass idea done in a video
I recently purchased Dominion for a really good price. I have yet to build and paint them. I’m wanting to start a Stormcast Army because I also have an Arena of Shades box set. I’m going to do some research regarding the new Stormcast that are being added and seeing if I can kitbash a proxy for them and paint them up with the new colour scheme.
That Wendigo model is absolutely amazing, I love that. I have nothing to use that technique on but now I want to buy something just to try it myself.
I'm gearing up to paint these and I would really really love to watch one of your videos as inspirations. My play group are into age of sigmar and so I'm I'm using the same bases as the orc player so that I can say I'm conquering the swamp. I hope you have a lovely day
11:00
The liberators are just hallowed knights. Not part of the guys who are on the verge of losing themselves. So the reclusians, veritant, terminus and the guy on the gryph are the ones more close to losing themselves.
I want to say the prosecutors aren’t either but their wings are kind of 50/50
I can't wait to see someone put a service dog vest on the gryphhound with the blind guy. Maybe this will be the thing to push me into sculpting.
That Skaven Warlock Engineer or whatever REALLY makes me want to paint it. That’s a cool friggin model.
Great to see I might be painting more Skaven in the future!
My flgm has 3 skaventide boxes rn
Counter argument: the books are incredibly overpriced by themselves.
@@JohnathanJWells Further counterpoint The whole battletome/Codex system is old and tired. Rules should be online and UPDATED FREQUENTLY. That avoids the whole 'codex being out of date before it even launches' crap GW have been doing for years.
No one is going to pay 60 bucks for that terrain sprue.
I do think if you treat this as a spearhead launch box it's nice, you can get right into spearhead. But for an AoS box it's meh
I'm suuuuuper excited for this box! Especially the skaven, they've needed these resculpts for a while now
'and speaking of coming with a friend'.... Man, I though this video was about to take a very weird turn.
7:22 this fellow looks great for kitbashing
Funny you mention Dominion. I actually just picked up the box a few weeks ago from a 3rd party shop for about $120 CAD after shipping
In regards to the texture on the SCE they were referring to the paint jobs to make them look more worn from long service, not the sculpts
I feel like you could Make an unique space marine chapter out of these stormcasts
the terrain in the box is for the Spearhead format included in it...
I wonder if their new price increase is affected the prices difference between them
Do you have a video showing your process with the static grass?
The terrain in the box is included to play Spearhead, not full AOS persay
Looking to get into Skaven but held off as I knew there would be new models. Glad I did
With all the models they retired, I can’t even think of considering new GW stuff, and now with the price increases? I just can’t anymore
Skirmish games, if any then small considerate purchases
Sounds like it's time for a 3d printer 🤔
@@klaykid117 normally, yes, but small children and little space, fumes… have to wait
The characters have character, but since I’m
Not a huge fan of the faction it’s a bit meh.
"And speaking of coming with a friend..."
Jay please! It is far too early in the morning for that kind of dirty talk!
Several at our local store as well...still sitting there, still 40% off retail...
Yeah, nothing ever gets discounts like that but ours is the same
Im not playing the 4th edition rules because Im opting out of the buy more books model of business, Glad I can try spearhead with the box though!
Side note, the editing in the video was excellent with all the pictures lining up. I really appreciate the compare and contrast here on mobile

Please make a video showing how you did the fur on that model!
Man, please I need a video on that tecnique for the wendigo fur, that was way too perfect
Splitting the box means it's still less than a combat patrol, even with the price increase.
That new Questor is going to be my base for a Kaldor Drago conversion for sure.
I love all the characters of the stormcast so I will probably try just get them and convert them to SOMETHING in 40K (not sure what yet!) and I think the axe guys might have to be used for some of SoB crusaders or something
Hey Jay, if you decide to make Drukhari terrain, could you include scatter terrain that replaces the card pieces in Gangs of Commorragh?
As someone who's never bought stormcast before these ones look great
Love your videos Jay ! You got me in WH40K Combat Patrol (well painting Combat Patrols :) ). Just found a deal for brand new Dominion box for like 125$. Would that be worth it or are the Stormcasters changing too much ? Wouldn't play in stores or tournaments, well not for a while.
