My gaming club puts the money together for these box sets as they comes out, then together we build and paint them. At some point I really should consider getting some people other than just me in the club, but that's just how it works some time.
YES the painting and modelling should be a group activity - i moved away and i miss my painting evenings with my friends where we helped eachother, painted eachothers models when someone was burned out after painting too many of his own, or someone was better at eyes ect. Work gets done faster and more pleasantly
@@ratdoesgaming feel free to hit me up dude, we can chat hobby, I'm part of a very friendly small Facebook hobby group and we regularly hang out and run fun events and competitions and stuff
@Daniel Rogan I'm just good at army painting haha. Had to get it ready for a local channel for release day so had a deadline. Painting every day for atleast 7-10 hours..
@@duathhadron5040 It is a game that takes up a lot of time at the start with painting and stuff. Biggest factor though I reckon is money. It is way to expensive for most people to invest into unfortunately.
This is one thing with me. I like to spend evenings painting with my wife She inspires me to keep going as do I her and its calming for us if we had a stressful day with our 2 year old son who is not old enough to paint minis yet.
I'm so happy to know that I'm am not the only one who starts projects but does not finish because... "Oooh, Squirrel!" Or, "Ooooh Shiney!!" I have recently gotten into collecting and painting minis, and I love the Warhammer figures, but it really is difficult to not buy more before I get done with what I have. Aaaand... cue the Dominion Box! Now I have in excess of 200 minis to build and paint. LOL
Over lockdown a group of us started having a weekly paint club over zoom. Recently we started to play a warcry campaign together with everything we painting over the last year. It's such a great motivator to get paint on those minis.
Heck yeah this is why some stores host group building/painting events, helpful with motivation and pacing and lets you ask for ideas and opinions as you go. Not surprised your Day 4 was less fun, when the rush of building & base coating gives way to more detailed work. That was a good idea taping the old paint to a big saw as a supercharged shaker.
I have friends that play wargames with me but none of them really like painting. My 5 year old is the only one who I can get to paint with me and he's too fast of a painter for me to keep up xD Also, awesome video as always and great work on the dominion box. I'm about to get into my Kruleboyz so this is great inspiration.
My 7-year-old often sees me painting and begs to paint something, so I've let her slap paint on some of the free models of the month, and let her have the Nighthaunt half of Tempest of Souls since she loves Halloween.
I'm the DM at our table and used to paint a lot by myself. Then I roped my players into painting their characters & then later terrain. (It helps bribing them w/ snacks & ingame bonuses f.x. inspiration dice.) When they can't make it for crafting, I fire up you guys or MWM, etc and its almost the same. Cheers from the D&D side of the table.
This video makes me happy, it's such a great thing to buy a box together and have it painted and ready to play. And you both succeeded so congrats to both of you ! I personally don't care about warhammer be it 40k or age of sigmar, I'm more of a SW Legion player, but seeing two friends manage to do this and sharing the painting is just amazing ! great video guys ! :D
I'd love to see you both do some more in depth tutorials on how you did these. I love those orange hobgrots and the metal on the TMM on the stormcast look amazing, shields in particular. Well done to all the EOB complete peeps as well
Hey EOB, I wanted to say i love your videos and have spent a lot of time watching them and going through your archives, i find your content wholesome and enjoyable to watch, you have also inspired me to give air brushing a go and i cant wait to try it out. thanks :)
After calling yourselves shills, that "It would probably be more accurate to say..." joke with the receipt is the loudest laugh I've had on TH-cam all year. Great video, guys.
My imperial guard army is huge but I only have the tanks painted and that's because I painted with a friend. He wanted an army of tanks, my army included tanks and we ended up in sort of a arms race trying to outdo each other. I got 2 Chimeras, 2 leman russ and a baneblade painted up pretty quick plus a couple of sentinels. But I have other hobbies and a lower paid job. He didn't have a baneblade but crushed me with hellhounds and leman russ. Eventually, like the soviet Union, I conceded as I had no money left. I also couldn't keep up with too little time. I really need to get my infantry done but it's a huge task and I need extra motivation, like a second arms race lol
To be honest I think the look of the stormcastes after airbrushes looks really good already. They look like an army of bronze statues! I am seriously considering of making my army to look like that
Hey Jay, for painting the white runes in the banners etc, I usually thin down a bit of white layer paint with a lot of medium, then use a very small brush to soak some of it up. If you thin it down enough, it will run off the brush into the rune pretty much by itself and pool there, leave it to dry and it will be done. Will also only spill a very little bit and thus be easy to clean up.
I discovered that your wings look amazing. I'm doing celestial vindicators for my stormcast half, I have too many golden stormcast already. I've spent two days looking at bird wings and still not any closer. Might have to settle on the good old British pigeons wings 😀 All the models looked fantastic
My wife is interested in hobby so I'm lucky. I can imagine painting with her, but that's an exception. A completely solitary experience for me. I also am super backwards so if I have a box of Hellblasters I will paint. On. At. A. Time. Start to finish. This batch painting video tho was very informative.
Great results guys - massive kudos to Nick for those Kruleboyz, that's a lot of models, with a lot of little details, to get done so well in such a short period of time!
wassup dudes. loved this one! You talked through what you found difficult and how you overcame any issues which helps me alot. my biggest problem is finishing a model and calling it finished. I'm never happy with the result and strip the paint. This episode gives me some confidence to get on with finishing one completely.
I usually decide a head of time how far I am willing to take a model. For example my troops get a base coat and wash, rarely any highlights. If I don’t do this I will spend months on a single unit and never get anything done. My character/hero units get the full treatment.
I'm painting my Stormcast from Dominion in Stonecast form. I am currently working on 4000pts plus of Stonecast. It's fun. Loved the video! Can't wait for the Battle Report 😉
Man, all these look absolutely gorgeous! I just got into 40k like 3 months ago and I've only managed to paint like 10 models so far, averaging 4 hours a day..lol
I'm in the same boat. But I have a friend on the east coast I started painting with over zoom or livestream. I also found watching painting channels on twitch while I paint is entertaining too.
Hello! Can't wait to watch this video. Just saying hello beforehand :-) Edit: That was really good! Loved the video, easy to watch and understand. Batch painting sucks the fun out of painting for me. Once I painted the whole box of Zombicide Black Plague (70 minis) in about 7 days and then stopped painting for nearly 2 months.
Great video guys, absolutely worth a sub! Can I ask how you achieved the almost weathered effect when washing the stormcast, like the right arm shoulderpad on the mini at the 22:19 mark. My washes always look too 'smooth'.
It's the combination of several washes, I washed the whole body, then drybrushed, then added more wash just to corners and edges, then more hilighting then a little more wash where I wanted it to get darkest.
@@EonsOfBattle Ah, I see it now! The texture isn't from the wash it's from the metallic being drybrushed back on top of the wash. Thanks for that, I'm feeling inspired to crack open my Dominion box now!
