I can print both of these boxes in their entirety. You can find the files pretty easily as of right now. With a 200 dollar printer and a .2mm nozzle you can print these at .05mm layer height and you cant tell theyre printed after being painted. It does take a long time though. I have about 30% of 40k ready to print and like 95% of space marines.
As soon as Combat Patrol became its own game, that was the end of the bundled savings. GW saw the popularity, which means money to be made. I picked up the old sets I wanted and have no intention of ever to buy any of the new ones.
Which is a bit sad, because I feel like it kind of is a miss-understanding of why it was popular. Combat patrol as a box was popular because it was a good jumping off point for collecting. Combat patrol as a mode was popular because you just dropped 200$ on gray plastic and should atleast be able to play a game with it. I can’t imagine anyone was ever like “Yeah! I want to play combat patrol and nothing else!” It was just a good jumping off point. Like the scale and want to go bigger? Get more models for higher point games. Do you wish it was a little smaller scale? Your battleline is likely already enough for a killteam. You can buy other kits for different fire teams and options if you want.
Man... Im new to the hobby, and everytime I try and get excited about it, Games Workshop is *really* good at killing my excitement with some good old corporate greed. I dont think there's a company that has actively pushed me away from their own products more with their own decisions... Like man, I just wanna like Warhammer... :(
I think their business brains think "well players are only going to buy one instead of multiples so we need to make them more expensive to get an equal amount of profit". Unfortunately it works...
@Mr_Waffle is correct, the cost to design and to make a mold for a single character is the same cost as designing and making a mold for a squad of 10 units, so a good portion of the price comes down to how many of these are going to sell to recoup those costs.
The biggest benefit with the Genestealer Box is that it's almost a ready-made Necromunda box. I mean, every model is a necromunda model, but this thing can do so much.
As a necron player I’m just glad my combat patrol got “better”? It’s fun to play and I’d definitely buy multiples of it. Really a shame most new CP don’t get a nice centerpiece anymore
Are you new to the hobby? The Necrons combat patrol is just the previous editions starter set with the addition of a canoptek doom stalker. It was better when this set also came with a space marine army for about 30% less money
@@sleeplessknight99 oh yeah for sure but nearly all of the models are nice to have multiple of and it still had big centerpiece with the walker. I’m not saying it couldn’t be better just that it’s okay.
@Kromgar1337 Actually, why can't they? They totally could. But they don't want to. They could have multiple starter sets. They just have to change out the rules in them when the edition changes. Keep in mind that this is what they did for 6th and 7th edition. Same models, but different rules in each starter set. It'd be really nice to have a variety to choose from.

The physical size of and number of sprues is a noteworthy thing to include that I haven’t heard other TH-camrs mention. The old sisters combat patrol with those unique mini-unit sprues is a key part of what allowed such variety
Remember 5 of the units in the old sister box are monopose/loadout, with 3 of the units being partial sizes that are impossible to expand correctly even with multiple boxes. Two of those model counts likely getting removed in the new book.
Yeah I saw that video too. That doesn't mean they had to chop the new box down, they improved pose-ability and squad size (probably because we're in 10th now, not 9th) at the cost of points, unit count and cost savings
I'd be interested in the direct Gameplay comparison between the old and new Combat Patrol. The Arcos can probably take down a Rhino, but you have so much diversity and so many units to score points in the old box
I know the new Sisters CP is a savings box, but it just doesn't look it. Same with the Dark Angels one. We're rapidly approaching a breaking point in terms of price vs. value and it'll be fascinating to see what happens next.
I think enough people are loyal to GW that we won't see any lowering of prices, sadly. I'm guilty of it myself but I think with the direction GW is going I'm nlre likely to look at alternative options
Oh, no, the prices will only move one way, but I do believe that the day will come when people decide that 10 intercessors aren't worth 80 bucks. GW will have to find other ways to create growth for investors-perhaps by revising these kits yet again; otherwise shareholders will leave and the company might just end up being sold off to Amazon or Hasbro.
@BrandonGiordano everyday 3d printing becomes cheaper and easier. Hell, I own a ton of 3d printed nids at as good quality. GW is gonna l ose this war, only a matter of time imo
Yeah, they can only bring savings so low before combat patrols become useless. The worse the cps get, the harder the hobby is to get into so this could be bad.
@AidenTulik well, I can get ever model in a wmranged for an 8th thebprice 3d printed. So the hobby isn't harder to get into, GW just won't be seeing any money for it. That and there are other game systems out there like GrimDark Futjure and Ravaged Syat
19:40 The acid blood of those first waves does melt the facility partially: That's how they get up in the ceiling, whereas before that approach was sealed off to them.
It hadn't occurred to before Jay mentioned it; but, given how far a single xenomoph's blood ate through the Nostomo, I think it would have been fun if the tidal wave of acid released by the Sentry Guns had destabilized Hadley's Hope.
My wife got a 1/2 off Sisters patroll recently, she loves sisters and the old box was so great. I got 1/2 of an old GSC Box Yes I do mean 1/2 of not 1/2 off Because I was bulding a Wyrmblade Kill team and someone else here wanted the Bigger guys and the Vehicle for something he was doing in Necromunda Which was sweet as I could convert the Magus into a Locus and could use all the Neophytes then I just had to add a Kellermorph and a Sanctus (Sniper/Talon) built as Sniperr, and I could use a neophyte body to make the Sanctus Talon My Cult of the Twilight Starchildren was then complete.
The admech combat patrol should be all the evidence that you need to know that GW doesn't balance the products for that game mode. Its purely about extracting value from kits.
I would have personally preferred repentia in place of arcos but that was literally the boarding patrol if I remember right. The only positive I can think of for the new cp for sisters is that for newer players I odd size squads can be a pain. I know personally I own 2 of the old cp and I went through and bought a bunch of singles from ebay to fill out the squads. While that is very easy it is nice to not have to do it. That said I have absolutely no need to pick up the new CP.
as someone who is about to start sisters soon. the new one is much better imo. the old box had weird numbers for the units besides the battle sisters, cannoness and rhino. the battle sisters were the mono pose ones too which is annoying if you would like to have a heavy weapon on there. the new one should be cheaper obviously but everything being the better kits is very nice for me. i'll be getting 2 or 3 depending if i want 30 arco for a meme list or not haha
The Genestealer Cults combat patrol will be a great buy if you play Necromunda Ash Wastes, especially with the GC coming to Necromunda Secundus. I bought the Jackals and Rockgrinder to kitbash Escher vehicles (then they brought out the Clippers before I got round to building them). As for Sisters, the Sanctorum Guard Christmas box has to be one of the best boxes released in recent years and I managed to get one by visiting every game site in the UK on pre-order day to find one where they still had some. At least that's how it felt. As far as the 'old' Combat Patrols keep your eyes open for the Hachette Combat Patrol magazine, 9 full Combat Patrols over 90 issues. Due in August in the UK and probably next year for the rest of the world.
You are correct about your blasting charges. It works like Reinforcements for the Imp Guard whose Sentinels get back their Hunter rkiller missles and Kasrkin get back their Frisbee of Death.
Speaking of the mole launcher, you do not lose cc weapon so it is ok. In addition that beaerk will have more wounds so it doesnt matter in that situation. The mole launcher is more of a bonus in the end
Arco-Flagellants seem more like an Adeptus Mechanicus style unit, like, Heretek Tech-Priests or Skitarii that aren't outright killed, get turned into suicidal servitor type guys.
@@batteredwarrior as I'm sure you've noticed, the Mechanicus are quite religious, and Technology fused with religious practices is kind of their whole schtick.
I got a dark angels combat patrol, it has a blade guard veteran squad an intercessor squad a Hellblaster squad and a Gravis Captain. along with transfers and add-ons. I really am happy with it
As a Votann player, the beserks are fine as is. The launcher is more of a utility weapon since it can reduce all the movement of what it hits by 2" so you can more easily charge it next turn. It also gives the model +1 wound and +1 to the attack profile of its weapons. I font mind him going in on combat. It's also nice for him to more easily FNP and survive a D3 weapon since he has 3 wounds so it makes the whole squad a little tankier.
Ugh, that Battle Sister box hurt my soul a little, I just went down and got the “old” combat patrol with the Rhino yesterday so I don’t feel bad about it. Although, I do love the Sacresants!
Isn't the flavor behind the GSC coming back not that they literally come back but that some other cultist pop up from underground to take their place? in that case yhea they should have their grenades bac
Jay, I would like to point out that in Necromunda there are rules that might make you lose control of you minis! Imagine this epic duel between this escher and a goliath, she kicks him in the stomach, he takes one to many steps back, the turret opens fire. Or the coward bottling out, just too panicked to remember there was a tower...
I am not playing GW's game anymore. I still play their games but earlier iterations, and I usually use Wargames Atlantic miniatures, as equivalents. My genstealer cultists are converted from Wargames Atlantic penal troops, because they wear a utility suit which works well. A few genestealer head swaps make these fit in very well with my two actual genestealer units. The whole army fits into my warbuss, which is a Mattel retro buss that just screams genestealer cult. WA have miniatures you can use as guard, preatorian, catachan, and others. I have done gangs for old school necromunda as well.
All the 10th Ed CP are trash. The Custodes one just looks good be because they removed the Sisters and replaced them with actual Custodes. But in terms of discount, it was still a, reduction
I would say make those turret guns part of the map. Imagine a map with a big building in the middle, but these things are on sentry duty and will shoot anyone who approaches. So you have this area that if you can get there gives you a big advantage, but you have to get past these auto guns to use that advantage. I love features like that in games.
Please look at the sprues from the Darktide board game box. Old minis on new sprues The zealot model was on a Blackstone fortress sprue and now is single but has a slotta base same for the Psyker Plus and the ogryn and kaserkin are on one sprue (sorry too many sprue words) It’s a standard ogryn but new release Therefore are we going to get obliterators and venom crawler in separate kits now.
I was planning to eventually get sisters (I started a kill team for them), The second they announced the new box I bought the old one cuz the new one sucks
I've just started with Sisters. I got a canonness and 3 warsuits through the imperium magazine at a huge discount, and i got the sisters killteam to start me off, but if i get celestine and the new battleforce and im at a comfortable 1000 points at a not terrible price.
Another interesting note about not changing combat patrol is I believe the Drukhari combat patrol still cannot have the Archon lead Incubi, as they didn't receive the datasheet update to allow this
GW let’s hike up the prices & give less models in the CP’s. I’m so disillusioned with 40k at the moment & don’t hold out much hope with the Sister codex being much good. I’m going to give AoS my time & if I feel the same way for that I will just stick to non GW games that I already play & get into Battletech.
The App updates the Combat Parols and GW started to keep the old CP rules in the App. So. You can still use the old GSC with CP rules and the new one.. Jay, you should do an episode to compare the old CP rules and the new CP rules.
So I will say as someone who bought the old genestealer cult box, one thing that I do think they are doing that is nice for the genestealer cult box is it does complement the old one well. It's a lot of the unit the old box didn't come with much of, the kit you should be buying the most of after you got the old box, the other good vehicle the old box didn't come with, and the bikes. I'm going to look at it in the inverse of how you looked at it, I want more acolytes and a ridgerunner, so I get bikes and a jackal for free. Maybe with the codex there will be a more fun way to play the more mad max vehicle heavy genestealers and I will be happy with all of them.
I understand that they try to alternate the types of models in each faction that are offered in discount boxes (why start collecting tsons went from rubrics to tzaangors/terminators), but with around 3 years between boxes does that matter?
just asking btw... with the changes in buisnesses having a harder time to strike down other firms that do the same... can we expect a cheaper version to original figurines and maybe even a heroforge like custom mini buisness ? (i am not that fit in american buissnes news...)
All these box sets combat patrol or army boxes were great starting points AND (big and) if you subscribed to imperial magazine you got all the new necron and new all the primaris stuff (monopose) But you got it all and Ad mech and sisters
Combat Patrol is going to go the way of Spearhead. Mostly infantry, 4 units seems what they are aiming for. They are trying to emulate AOS Spearhead. They are shooting for balanced out of the box, tournament ready, and quick play. A good gateway product, but it will be able to stand on it's own.
Really wanted to pick up GSC before their codex cause I knew they were going to neuter the combat patrol but it’s too late already. Guess I’m not collecting GSC lol. Anyone that wants to collect Drukhari you better get your 3 combat patrols now.
Wait, what's wrong with the Grey Knights box? It makes them one of the cheapest armies to collect and gives you everything you need to have a solid list. Am I missing something here?
As someone that wants to make a Sister display army, the loss of the rhino is a huge let-down. The shield maidens is nice, but at this point might as well just buy them separately. Its weird, especially with the 10x Arcos in the box instead of the rocketpacks or something. Kind of hard to chose and a lot of math to do where to save money in the end.
As soon as the new Adepta Sororitas box was released I bought the old box, it is sooo much better value for money. I don't play, just for painting. I love the old box for the variety and quantity!
Step 1: buy aggressors and BT upgrade sprue Step 2: stick some shit from the upgrade sprue to said aggressors Step 3: move on with your life Hope this helps!
Depends. Custodes might be less of a discount, but you use everything in the box. Old one gave you a bigger discount, but with units that you might use less. But for most. The discount is worse
GW needs to justify 3-5% growth year after year to it's shareholders, meanwhile their market/player base stays mostly the same year after year. Don't expect things to get better.
I was lucky when i purchased my old sister's combat control box over a year ago. I only paid £60 new and sealed from my my local post office (they had a warhammer section) it was reduced for winter sales, then 15% off on top of that for spending a certain amount, then a coupon i had saved 👌
Well there was no way of genestealers coming out of this with a win. The old box was good enough to buy 3 times (expect magos but you could easily kitbash her to somethint more relevant). Only good thing about the new one is probably alphus being discounted but that's about it. On sister box I think the new one is better since the value you got is highly depatable since you got such odd unit sizes and it basically being the 8th edition release box with rhino tacked on. Additionally knowing GW the min unit size for flagelants and repentia will going to 10 so combat patrol units will be useless. Frankly biggest loss is the unique sister sculpt in that box.

If high-cost models cost more money regardless of them being small, can I have low-cost model that cost less money regardless on them being large?
No, cause that doesn’t make a rich person richer, nor make a poor person poorer.

I've just started with Sisters. I got a canonness and 3 warsuits through the imperium magazine at a huge discount, and i got the sisters killteam to start me off, but if i get celestine and the new battleforce and im at a comfortable 1000 points at a not terrible price.
@1:37 Schemes Workshop huh? That's a new one. It kinda fits too 'eh?
I’m painting my first space marines today! Primed first one.
Do a black templar Horus Heresy Legends model
"Hey, 40k is kinda cool, I wonder if I could get an army or tw- *sees price*..... Wow! That Resin printer is an awesome deal!!!"
you need to explain to my partner why I just bought the old sister's combat patrol
I’m about buy one today
I understand that they try to alternate the types of models in each faction that are offered in discount boxes (why start collecting tsons went from rubrics to tzaangors/terminators), but with around 3 years between boxes does that matter?
just asking btw... with the changes in buisnesses having a harder time to strike down other firms that do the same... can we expect a cheaper version to original figurines and maybe even a heroforge like custom mini buisness ? (i am not that fit in american buissnes news...)
brother man the imperium partworks magazines had 3 paragon warsuits for 20aud each which I imagine is like 3 dollars in USD
When I’m in a worst combat patrol contest and my opponent is the Admech Combat Patrol box (260 points worth of dudes 😭)
This. The new admech CP is so few points its just silly
I like the new ork patrol, I didn't have any of these models and you get a full box of beast snaggas for free.
All these box sets combat patrol or army boxes were great starting points
AND (big and) if you subscribed to imperial magazine you got all the new necron and new all the primaris stuff (monopose)
But you got it all and Ad mech and sisters
Combat Patrol is going to go the way of Spearhead. Mostly infantry, 4 units seems what they are aiming for. They are trying to emulate AOS Spearhead. They are shooting for balanced out of the box, tournament ready, and quick play. A good gateway product, but it will be able to stand on it's own.
Really wanted to pick up GSC before their codex cause I knew they were going to neuter the combat patrol but it’s too late already. Guess I’m not collecting GSC lol.
Anyone that wants to collect Drukhari you better get your 3 combat patrols now.
Those sentry guns from Necromunda would look ace as part of a 'Guard army, rather than using using the heavy weapons platforms
Agree 100% with the sentry gun idea.
where do i find rules to the new combat patrols?
Wait, what's wrong with the Grey Knights box? It makes them one of the cheapest armies to collect and gives you everything you need to have a solid list. Am I missing something here?
I am so happy i got hold of the old combat patrol before it, changed
I'm just waiting for that Vespid killteam I'm so excited for new models
Arcos look so much better than sisters on sneakers though
My little Pony Cavalry is canon and has always been part of Kreig lore.
Combat patrol was only meant as a push to get new people into 40K
So new boxes are just stuff some people may want to add to your army
Pleaseee Jay work on your gsc i love the new schemee
The sisters box was from 2018/19 not 16 :P
As someone that wants to make a Sister display army, the loss of the rhino is a huge let-down. The shield maidens is nice, but at this point might as well just buy them separately. Its weird, especially with the 10x Arcos in the box instead of the rocketpacks or something. Kind of hard to chose and a lot of math to do where to save money in the end.
As soon as the new Adepta Sororitas box was released I bought the old box, it is sooo much better value for money.
I don't play, just for painting. I love the old box for the variety and quantity!
I’m about to buy it today
This is such a coincidence. My first game tomorrow is against 1000pt genestealers!
Hello Jay
The Genestealer box is so weird because it isn't a bad new box, it's just not as good as the old one ... weird place to be.
Unless I'm really dumb, how is 26 models in the new box less than half of the models in the old box? There's not 53 models in it.
In my opinion they change the boxes in a way to discourage customers to buy more than one box. Who would need 20 or 30 Arcos?
A minute ago is crazy😅
Just watched the new mad max, WHEN ARE YOU DOING MORE ORKS 🙏🙏🙏
Episode 11 of asking for black Templar aggressors
Cringe
Step 1: buy aggressors and BT upgrade sprue
Step 2: stick some shit from the upgrade sprue to said aggressors
Step 3: move on with your life
Hope this helps!
I don’t think a lot of people run BT aggressors , or atleast the ones I’ve played against
I want BT aggresors!!!

I run my genestealer cults with a baneblade. Because why not
Is there a single new Combat Patrol that's been a better value?
The sentry guns are heavy stubbers, not autocannons.
I was lucky when i purchased my old sister's combat control box over a year ago. I only paid £60 new and sealed from my my local post office (they had a warhammer section) it was reduced for winter sales, then 15% off on top of that for spending a certain amount, then a coupon i had saved 👌
I'm getting sick of combat patrols ditching big vehicles
Also the genestealer cult box is excellent for necromunda ash wastes players
"i'm not gonna paint an other magus i already have 3" said the man who have painted every chaplain ever made in history
To an u trained eye… being myself… the archoflagulents look like a nice drukari unit 👀
I’ve never thought of that
The CP boxes are intended to be more balanced as a game. They're not the same as the old Start Collecting boxes.
Sadly they are the best company at predatory sales
Love how $50 isn't a saving.
