PD TDI BRM fuel in the oil! How to reseal/change PD injectors and set backlash. BHW injector upgrade

  • The 6 speed swapped MK5 Jetta came in with 2 extra quarts of oil, looking like it is fuel. I changed out the BRM injectors for BHW ones to allow for more fuel in the future, and changed the tandem pump as well just to be safe.

    Thank you. Nice video. Very helpful. A few questions from me if you dont mind.
    Did you eliminate the CAI when you did aftermarket intake?
    What brand is it and did you notice any difference in fuel economy? Any tuning needed?
    Also, do you need to soak the valvetrain with oil prior to putting valve cover back on or no?
    How did you rotate the crank?

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok so I did do a whole different intake, and I tried to get fresh air to the filter but I'm sure it's not as good, monitoring IATs though I think the intercooler makes up for it. You do need tuning to delete the MAF sensor to run a custom intake, and the tuning made MPGs better regardless of the intake. And I do usually pour oil over the cam before reassembly. I put the cam sprocket back on to rotate the cam.

    Most excellent video,thanks dude! Fix the+oil?, figure out the issue. Pump? Or inj?

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That did fix the issue but since I replaced both at the same time I'm not 100% what the issue was, I still think it was an injector but I didn't find a cracked oring or anything to prove that unfortunately

  • @Mr617583
    @Mr617583 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just because an oring doesn't have visible cracks means nothing. When you wiggle the injector out of the head see how much force it takes to pull it up. Remove the orings and measure them with a didgital caliper to see if their round, they won't be. Orings compress with time and heat and lose their ability to spring back to a round shape thereby causing leaks. Also the tandem pump seal will be leaking as well, so a reseal kit is needed there too. With oil on the new orings installed on the injector and in the injector hole, the force required to pull up or push the injectors down in the hole should be much higher than with old orings. This is a big negative of the PD engines compared to the VE, plus building much higher fuel pressure with a small diameter cam lobe compared to a 5 inch diameter cog pulley on a VE car is really ineficiant which is why VW made the belt 5mm wider to compensate .

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  ปีที่แล้ว

      100% agree man, I like the PD engines in some ways, but they have unnecessary issues to worry about that make me like the VE engines so much more. Especially when I can make similar power with either setup.

    What is the advantages to using BHW injectors?

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  ปีที่แล้ว

      Partially for future upgrades and adding more power, the BHW injectors can fuel well over 200 HP, but also I was ruling out a leaking injector body. Not very likely but I already have the injectors so it was a good time to swap them out.

    Hey man, Iv got a 2006 Jetta BRM, its stock ATM, what upgrades would you suggest to get the HP up in the 300 range? Thanks Jarrid

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well 250 HP is much easier, just pd150 head bolts, turbo, injectors, and tune. 300 will require all new bigger boost piping, a ported head, probably high lift cam, pretty much about doubles the price for that extra 50 HP honestly

    • @jarridjazza5220
      @jarridjazza5220 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TDISwaps That makes more sense, I’ve got 2 turbos in mind that most guys are using to get to the 300 range, I’m just battling to find the correct injectors, when people say PD150 what does that mean exactly, I can get Malone tuning to do the tune

    • @TDISwaps
      @TDISwaps  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jarridjazza5220 ya I'm using a 350 HP turbo at more like 220-240 haha. PD150 is just a stock engine overseas, BRM is like a PD100 I think, BHW injectors are easier to get here in the states and very close to the same size. As soon as you start building custom PD injectors the price goes to the roof so most guys just settle for used BHW or PD150s

      @jarridjazza5220 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TDISwaps Thanka for the reply, really appreciate the info. I think for now I’m just going to do a tune on the engine and and EGR delete then keep the internals the same, rather going to save the cash and effort for a build that I will be able to have more fun with
