Actually our best historical friend is Paraguay, in the war of the triple alliance where Paraguay lost around 60% of their population Colombia had a law (and i think it still apply) where if Paraguay cease to exist all it's citizens would be considered colombians, and helped reconstruct Paraguay after the war.

I’m the same way! I speak very little Spanish, but I am in Colombia right now and have also been to Mexico City. Colombians and Ecuadorians are the only Spanish speakers I can follow along and sort of get the gist of what they’re saying.

Most of the countries have their own words -slang- so some terms are not understandable to other countries as well as expressions. Colombians have way too many expressions though like quotes that rhymes. Like "Calladito se ve mas Bonito." Meaning you look better when you stay quiet. That sort of thing.
I was born and raised in Savannah, GA. I lived in Colombia for 5 years, in the 70s. Best years ever. Barbs, I must say this clip is so well done. I follow you and love how you exude respect and love for people around the world. The positive influence that Colombia had on my life is something I will always thank God for. And I'm so especially thankful for all the people who so very sincerely and politely allowed me to live and work among them. I will always carry my beloved Colombia deep inside my heart. I don't want to be the stone in the shoe, but with all due respect, I really hate when US people think theirselfs as the big livesavers when they in fact are one of the biggest trouble. Beginning with the military invasion of the latinamerican countries in the cold war, the chiquita fruit company and the masacre of the bananeras, the almost illegal extraction of primal resources, the "plan Colombia", the recent relation between the Bush and the Uribe administration, and their countribution to increase our debt and the transition of national industry and enterprises into a private and global controled companies. Without mention that the US has been and still is the major consumer of drugs like Cocaine, and also things like Pablo Escobar having DEA people on his payroll. That kind of stuff. apart of that: Good vídeo.

O en español, la verdad la situación del país era crítica y en el momento la decisión se tomó como una medida de emergencia, en ese momento las negociaciones de Pastrana ( el que realmente hizo el plan Colombia) estaban fracasando y no había presupuesto para combatir la guerrilla, en ese entonces se secuestraba gente en los retenes de la calera y se hacían tomas guerrilleras todos los días. Uribe llegó al poder cuando ya los acuerdos con USA estaban hechos, el lo que hizo fue utilizarlos (y ahí viene la parte espinosa de nuestra historia reciente)

I have to say, as a Venezuelan who has been in Colombia for five years: this video helped me understand the many historical conflicts and issues better than anything I've ever read, and I genuinely congratulate you on that, cuz Colombians really struggle to explain it (both succinctly and objectively, for obvious reasons). Been Colombian in a no Spanish speaker country it's really bad, I went to Canada for 6 month's to learn English and they were super racist with most of us, they laughed all the time about cocaine and Colombia and I remember the first thing that someone asked me when I arrived at Canada was if it was true that when colombians sneezed they throw ton's of cocaine, obviously not everyone was like them, I also found really nice people but now I feel shamed about saying I am from Colombia in those countries cause I feel they will make fun of me, SO PLEASE IF YOU MEET A COLOMBIAN DON'T MAKE JOKES ABOUT COCAINE AND COLOMBIA WE ARE TIRED OF IT!!!

haha Peruvians and us have that friendly rivalry on who has the most understandable (neutral accent) spanish... but being fair everybody has an accent still Peruvians and Colombians (depending on region) do have a smooth thing going on that makes it easier to get.

I’m the same way! I speak very little Spanish, but I am in Colombia right now and have also been to Mexico City. Colombians and Ecuadorians are the only Spanish speakers I can follow along and sort of get the gist of what they’re saying.
@@johanherrera6413 ecuadorians as well but depends what part of Ecuador, some have accents. Most of the countries have their own words -slang- so some terms are not understandable to other countries as well as expressions. Colombians have way too many expressions though like quotes that rhymes.
Like "Calladito se ve mas Bonito." Meaning you look better when you stay quiet. That sort of thing.

I don't want to be the stone in the shoe, but with all due respect, I really hate when US people think theirselfs as the big livesavers when they in fact are one of the biggest trouble. Beginning with the military invasion of the latinamerican countries in the cold war, the chiquita fruit company and the masacre of the bananeras, the almost illegal extraction of primal resources, the "plan Colombia", the recent relation between the Bush and the Uribe administration, and their countribution to increase our debt and the transition of national industry and enterprises into a private and global controled companies. Without mention that the US has been and still is the major consumer of drugs like Cocaine, and also things like Pablo Escobar having DEA people on his payroll. That kind of stuff. apart of that: Good vídeo.

O en español, la verdad la situación del país era crítica y en el momento la decisión se tomó como una medida de emergencia, en ese momento las negociaciones de Pastrana ( el que realmente hizo el plan Colombia) estaban fracasando y no había presupuesto para combatir la guerrilla, en ese entonces se secuestraba gente en los retenes de la calera y se hacían tomas guerrilleras todos los días. Uribe llegó al poder cuando ya los acuerdos con USA estaban hechos, el lo que hizo fue utilizarlos (y ahí viene la parte espinosa de nuestra historia reciente)
