Hello! The highest peak you mention, pico Cristobal colon isn't in the Andes. It is in the sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a mountain seperate from the Andes.
In Colombia each city has a different climate, many foreigners are surprised when they arrive in Bogota the capital and expect a warm and hot weather and find a cold and cloudy city reminiscent of the climate of London or Amsterdam, unfortunately Holywood is not interested in portraying the country as it is in Mr. and Mrs. Smith could to Bogota as a tropical city in the Amazon with architecture of the XVl century If you like the theme of the legend of El Dorado you can also visit the Guatavita Lagoon which is on the outskirts of Bogota, there the legend was born and spaced to the rest of the region, uncharted, the road to El Dorado, everything originated here

Thanks for the vid. I live in Bogotá. I’ve seen in some of the comments people misspelling the country, it’s COLOMBIA (not Columbia). This happens all too often.
18:00 Cartagena also has the best preserved buildings from the imperial period, when the territory was known as the New Granada Viceroyalty. Even today one can visit the San Felipe de Barajas' Castle where the British were crushed during the Jenkin's Ear War, never to return to the city again, until the then Prince Charles and Camilla returned during the 00's to inaugurate a plaque honouring the lives of all the British soldiers that died by the thousands during the 18th century, trying to pray the valuable city away from Spanish control, nevertheless the plaque was destroyed by a local history teacher, hammer in hand, soon after being open to the public. Nearby Cartagena de Indias, there's San Basilio de Palenque, the first town founded on the Americas by formerly enslaved africans, whom freed themselves during the 17th century never to be recaptured by the Spaniards again, today the town is home to the only Spanish-based creole language on the Americas, called Palenquero and the town is also famous for its unique cuisine and western/central african traditions with a colombian twist.

As a colombian, Thanks for the video! It is great to recognize this country as the wonder it is rather than the difficult history that it has had . Couple corrections: the pacific region is not called “Chocó”. That is actually the name of one of the departments (the political subdivisions of the country) that make part of that region. The pacific region is also shared with Cauca, Nariño and Valle del Cauca departments. Also, Medellín is north of Manizales, not south. In addition, in Bogotá, the “Ciclovía” (bike way - literal translation) is the reason for some road closing on Sundays, but this also happens On Festive days (which we have A LOT in Colombia). It is until 2pm, and happens also on other cities like Medellin. Also, the licence plate restriction is true for Colombia’s biggest cities, not just Bogotá. Finally, the Cristobal Colón peak you mention as part of the Andes region, is not in the Andes, it is on the mountain range called “Sierra nevada de Santa Marta” located in the Caribbean region, separated from the Andes mountain range. The highest point or peak in the Andean region is Nevado del Huila, at 5364 meters above sea level.

If you want to see an even wilder and crazier geography, take a look at Peru. I'm not saying that Colombian geography is little, but Peru's is even more extreme and impressive! From the immense coastal deserts, with ruins and history contemporary to Egypt to most of the tropical glaciers in the world, did you know that Peru gives rise to the Amazon basin, which is born in the peaks of the Peruvian Andes, occupies a much larger territory of 967,922.47 km² only in Peru making it the mother of the Amazon and the second most Amazonian country in the world, behind Brazil, Peru has several records and has the largest population of bears and mammals in the Americas! As if that were not enough, this year it just surpassed Colombia in bird records, so the biodiversity figures must be updated every year! Because Peru, Colombia and Brazil do not stop discovering new species in their territories and these figures change all the time, everything depends on the money that the governments invest in the study of their territories, I have no doubt that Peru will surpass Colombia in all records! The only thing missing is money, another point is NOT to fall into the simplistic way of saying that Peru only has "coast, mountains and jungle" it is a serious error to study the Peruvian geography that is extremely diverse, the correct way is to mention all its natural regions that are 11: 1. Cold Sea of the Peruvian Current, Peru has "two types of sea" as strange as it may seem, the cold sea of the Pacific has a completely different fauna than the Peruvian tropical sea, it is thanks to the Peruvian cold current that Peru has 10 times more fishing production than countries with two seas like Colombia, the Peruvian sea is much richer. 2. Tropical Sea, the Peruvian tropical sea is located in the north of the country, in Tumbes and Piura the reefs are large and the fish there are completely tropical, it is a different ecosystem to the cold sea of the Peruvian current, the sea is warm all year round and the beaches are beautiful. 3. Coastal Desert, desert by the sea, with the most impressive views you will ever see, you don't have to go to Namibia to see this. 4. Equatorial Dry Forest, dry forests are not only seen in Europe, in Peru we have the most extreme and beautiful landscapes. 5. Pacific Tropical Forest, someone mentioned a jungle by the sea, in Peru we also have these landscapes. 6. Steppe Mountain Range, impressive views of the Andes never seen before. 7. Puna, there is an entire region with the same name. 8. Páramo, the most incredible paramos you will see in Peru 9. Yungas, the dastric changes in the Peruvian territory are incredible. 10. Amazon, it occupies almost 70% of the country, Peru is an Amazonian country. 11. Palm savannah, large and little explored savannahs.

14:44 This former mayor is a real progressive!☺️👏 He identified real problems and solved them in productive ways without making things worse and actually improved his community. Westwrn progressives, *PLEASE TAKE NOTES!* 😒
His political legacy was recently "canceled and politically burned out because lukewarmness", discourse applied and popularized in order to weaken the political center and strengthen the more radicalized leftist populist/woke ex-guerrilla current president Petro's party and socialists. 😕 These hate speeches and populist behavior lowered Mockuse's Green Party candidates popularity and overtake proper debates, which in turn forces them to ally or work together with more traditional center-right and center-left liberal and conservative sectors, which aren't popular at all because past corruption scandals. This situation is sad because it always ends up in us Colombian having to choose between far right or far left presidential candidates on second turn who's parties are to a level directly or indirectly complicit on the armed conflict, guerrillas or paramilitaries and polarization. Mockus is sadly out of the political world as he developed a pretty bad alzheimer over the last decade and can barely speak 😢
Paradoxically all this previous years of violence in different parts of the country allowed to conserve a lot of fauna and flora, even untouched archeological places, I hope as the country gets better those places will be kept and protected.

Why do people live in the centre of Colombia rather than on the coasts? In most countries population tends to live proximal to the coast because that's where there is the greatest economic opportunity.
Because Colombia being a tropical country, it gets quite hot, oppresingly hot. Bogotá, the capital city, as well as many other cities are situated at a high elevation due to the Andes mountains making them colder cities with great weather all year round.
because we are crazy people... nah, seriously it is because the andean region has a "nice" climate and the lands surrounding the andes are quite fertile (yup, lots of people live near to volcanoes) and lets not forget about politics since viceroyalty times (most of Presidents hail from the andean region).

The only thing missing is money, another point is NOT to fall into the simplistic way of saying that Peru only has "coast, mountains and jungle" it is a serious error to study the Peruvian geography that is extremely diverse, the correct way is to mention all its natural regions that are 11:
8. Páramo, the most incredible paramos you will see in Peru
9. Yungas, the dastric changes in the Peruvian territory are incredible.
10. Amazon, it occupies almost 70% of the country, Peru is an Amazonian country.
11. Palm savannah, large and little explored savannahs.

Hey i live in manizales and let me tell you that is the safest city in the country .
It's not a cheap city to live in but it's worth it, because we have a good transport system (with cable cars), cold weather and lovely people
It's great to see somebody that will accurately portray my country for what it really is, thank you man, you're doing God's work here
Colombia: The country of the beauty and the Magical Realism. 🇨🇴❤️
This video was very informative and told me a lot about Columbia that I did not know.
Happy to hear! Thanks for watching!
Colombia* escríbelo bien.
COLOMBIA!
Amazing place!
Thank you 👍
As a Colombian born in the US, I'm happy that my people's culture is finally getting the attention it deserves for the good that most of the country does, rather than the shit that one man did.
Thank you for this video ! We have problems in Colombia- work is scarce for example. But compared to when I was little and President Uribe lead the country, we have improved. I have hope one day my country will reach its full potential. Love from a Colombian 🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
Great video. Thank you !
La verdad es que estamos desarrollándonos muy rápidamente!
Gret video! Can you do Venezuela next? I’ll be watching for sure
Debo confesar que lloré de orgullo por ser Colombiano. Que hermoso video sobre mi país. 🇨🇴

These hate speeches and populist behavior lowered Mockuse's Green Party candidates popularity and overtake proper debates, which in turn forces them to ally or work together with more traditional center-right and center-left liberal and conservative sectors, which aren't popular at all because past corruption scandals.
@@kingkeeper99 man, that is genuinely sad to hear what happened to him😔Thanks for sharing
Medellin is not South of Manizales. It is North of Manizales. 11:05
Well dang
He’s already edited it … duh
very well informed Body 👌
Paradoxically all this previous years of violence in different parts of the country allowed to conserve a lot of fauna and flora, even untouched archeological places, I hope as the country gets better those places will be kept and protected.
Thank you for this video, really
No mention of the incredible emerald industry.
Excellent video, nonetheless.
I’m Colombia and I love you, Video

Great video, but I think you could have mentioned the role colombian music on the global popularization of its culture. Btw, lets's not forget Colombia gave us Shakira! hahaha
Thank you for showing Colombia!! 💛💛💙❤️
Beautiful place ❤
Mistake, the "cristobal colón" peak is in the north, in the caribbean region, in "sierra nevada", that is a different structure.
Soy de Colombia 🇨🇴❤️🇨🇴
Thanks so much for your video, There are more good things about our country Colombia than bad stuff, hoping my beautiful country continues to strive to get better for colombians and the people who are now moving to our country. 🇨🇴🙏🇺🇲♥️✌️
Awesome job on this one ; great video, thanks! Learned a lot !! Shared
I appreciate it!

@@daveman90000 Correct, that's the main reason, atlhough there is a secondary one, in the center the city was easier to defend
because we are crazy people... nah, seriously it is because the andean region has a "nice" climate and the lands surrounding the andes are quite fertile (yup, lots of people live near to volcanoes)
and lets not forget about politics since viceroyalty times (most of Presidents hail from the andean region).
Sou brasileiro, e admiro muito a Colômbia! A Colômbia é o pais que mais se parece com o Brasil em muitos aspectos. Um dia vou conhecer esse pais incrível! 🇧🇷🇨🇴
I'm from the Philippines but I really love Colombia as a whole country hope someday I can both visit and live there somehow. ❤😊
Excelent vídeo …!👍🏼
can you please do dominican republic? 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Would've loved more info on Cali
MANIZALES MENTIONED!!!! WTF IS A DECENT PUBLIC TRANSIT SYSTEM??? (loved your video)
Thank You, but hoped you talked about how not everything is just fine, guerrillas are still in here and matters should be taken
Hey, Colombia mencionada, let's go!
I think you skipped the Caribbean region.
He could have talked a little bit more about their swamp ecosystems and the magdalena river flood plains system.
Thr Caribbean region is what make us a third world country. Better not show it.
Welcome to our country. It’s not logical, it is magical.
