My dad is from Venezuela. I had the pleasure of going to Venezuela this past summer. Venezuela is a beautiful country with an incredible culture and great food.
@@blueb4829 There's now food, it's just extremely difficult to buy for the minimum wage population of around $4 per month, but the food is delicious, the one we've had for decades before this collapse
Love this! Like you said, tensions between Colombians and us Venezuelans have grown significantly in the past years, but this type of content really shows how much we have in common. At the end of the day we're brothers, and we should embrace that instead of following a pattern of hatred. Thank you for this video, pretty interesting and entertaining. Saludos desde Venezuela!
@@sanexpreso2944 really? I tought it would be more due to immigration. People get mad at poor people when they see them, specially when they can be blamed for being foreign or all painted as lower class thieves. But then again, the same happened to Colombian immigrants when Venezuela was richer, and Colombians have bigger problems than complaining about more poor people, there’s already a lot. Most tensions are just complaining about poor people and accents. Which are already a thing between Colombians from diffenret regions, so not a new prejudice at all
@@yucol5661 It's a mix of both actually, while xenophobia towards immigrants from venezuela has increased in recent years it is worth noting the unfortunate causes that have led to this, you see, while there are a bunch of people that act like a**h0les towards venezuelans just because of xenophobia, the truth is that most of the hatred comes from Venezuelan gangs and thieves that cause a lot of problems. Theres this group mostly made of immigrants from Venezuela that handles a lot of the organized crime in Colombia's capital, Bogota, this group's origins can be traced back to Venezuela's poor handling of their prisons, as the prisoners had total control of them (in the Torocon prison they even had a zoo), and due to the lack of border control, many of these gang members managed to cross into Colombia, and recruit even more immigrants to their gang, nowadays they've become one of the most brutal gangs in the region. We need measures like a proper border control to be enforced to ensure that people with ill-intentions don't cause more problems, as these kind of people harm both Colmbians and Venezuelans (since the vast majority of them are good people), and the gang's forces need to face the consecuences of their actions (which is very hard to do since the Colombian judicial system is full of flaws and corruption), when those conditions are met, it will be much easier for Colombians and Venezuelans to start building a better future.
I'm Colombian. Great video! Thanks for your interest in our beautiful land. We've been growing a lot as a nation, together with our brothers Venezuelans.
No me hubiese imaginado a Mr beat comparando a Colombia y Venezuela , pero no me quejo jajaja . Otro excelente video Mr beat , te quedó genial .
You know, as a Colombian American, this was instantly eye catching. Such beautiful and rich countries with painful histories. I’m going to be in Colombia in a few weeks for Christmas, and it’s going to be quite a party the whole time!
Simón Bolivar was a coward that wanted power. He was a traitor with Miranda and declare himself a dictator of the whole continent. That’s why the people who loved the republic tried to kill him.
I was born and raised in Venezuela, lived there for 18 years and I am now currently living in the US, but before that happened I lived in Bogotá for over a month due to some migration processes. This was such a cool and interesting video! It is true that both countries have a lot more in common rather than differences between them, and almost all the Colombians I've met throughout my life are amazing people. I really liked the part where you said that both countries, and particularly their people, will play a significant role in the future of the world. I believe that to be a 100% true! Gracias por este vídeo 🇻🇪🇨🇴
I am uncomfortable with a comment on a video that talks about Venezuela and Colombia in which the profile photo is communist, especially knowing that Venezuela is the way it is because of that type of ideology.
I'm from Venezuela but I have been living in Colombia for 6 years. Both countries are really beautiful but the currently situation of Venezuela is hard broken 💔.
It's a shame you didn't mention the legendary Colombian figure, coronel Aureliano Buendia. He led nearly 32 armed revolts, and even though he lost all of them, he was still famous for his metallic goldfish. An icon of the nation.
Interesting video Mr. Beat! I just spent 2.5 months in Colombia. Would have loved to go to Venezuela but everyone said I shouldn't go. Will go to Peru tomorrow.
I am colombian, like, REALLY colombian. But I am currently living in Germany, and I struggle every single day trying to explain my friends how´s Colombia. Also with the general lifestyle of the region, and differencing it with things that are only of/from Colombia. This is a big step when taking into account that most of this europeans just think about latin america as the balkans, but tremendously bigger and louder. Apart of the fact that I will be forcing every single german I know to watch the whole video, (because it is great) I also died of complete cuteness when EL SEÑOR BEAT started speaking spanish. The guy is getting there he just needs to relax his tongue a bit (He is at least better than my math teacher that thinks I speak colombian)
Europeans think of South America Like the Balkans? The Balkans are several states devided by religious ethnic lines which cannot at all be said about South America. How did you get this idea?
In Venezuela we drink it as well, although we tend to serve it kinda like a soup (in bowls) rather than drinking from cups, but either option is perfectly normal. The rest of the world don't know what they're missing
Oooh, as someone who has lived in Ecuador for many years and goes shopping in Colombia all the time because of how cheap it is, interesting to see. Lots of Venezuelans and Colombians live here since I live on the Ecuador/Colombia border. The cold weather always gets people confused with the mountains, it gets below freezing quite often here and it's that cold 365 days a year!
Hi Mr. Beat! Wow, as a colombian that has followed you for a long time ago, it's a pleasant surprise. I've never thought that you would make a video about my beautiful country. I've learnt a lot of U.S. history trough your channel and I'm so glad hearing you talk about my homeland. Greetings from Cartagena, Colombia 🇨🇴
I’m taking a college history course this semester, and we learned about this earlier. I think it’s also worth pointing out that Spain’s American colonies were not allowed to trade, not even with each other. All of their goods were to come from Spain, and Spain only. This was because the colonies were meant for resource extraction, and agriculture. The King of Spain would also appoint the colonies’ viceroys. Often, somebody from Spain that the king trusted, not somebody from the colonies proper. These all contributed to the colonies’ demand for independence, but they weren’t what sparked it. If there are any Colombians and Venezuelans who would like to correct me, I’ll gladly take the criticism.
@@iammrbeat It would've been tough to get to in this video, but Colombia had a 50 year unofficial civil war called La Violencia in the middle of the 1900s, which is what led to the ability of narcotrafficking to take off
Bogotá is THE andean megalopolis, You would think countries like Peru or Bolivia would have larger high-altitude cities but that's not the case. Specially since Colombia has vast swaths of plains along both the Caribbean and Pacific coasts.
Venezuelan here! You managed to maneuver through so weighty matters and still keep a lighthearted tone. Probably some people will still criticize you for not furthering more into the political issues. I wouldn't worry about them, I think this video serves a lovely purpose and the information is overwhelmingly accurate.
It is a very interesting video, but as a Colombian I should clarify that the cheese goes in hot cocoa, not in coffee, as it was claimed twice, other than that keep up the good work! 😊
I am Venezuelan and this was such a good video! The rivalry between Colombians and Venezuelans is more so like the rivalry between two siblings, we always argue but we also always end up caring a lot for each other even if we don't want to admit it.
Colombia does have universal health care, btw. You just have to be registered in it, unlike Venezuela, where they’ll treat anyone without need for registration.
I almost corrected you and said "It absolutely isn’t the only country on the continent that borders the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans", but I forget most US citizens consider América two continents 😁 it’s another great video!
Hi there! A few corrections from a Colombian. 1. And most importantly, WE DON'T PUT CHEESE ON COFFE! JESUS CHRIST WE ARE NOT ANIMALS! we put cheese on hot coco, like civilized people. It is very good. 2. Also Muizca is pronounced Mooisca like a cows moo. And the had a ritual where they would throw a bunch of gold in a sacred lagoon near Bogota, and that is where the legend of el dorado comes from. I think that was it. Here are some more interesting things, in the last decade. Somewhere around 25% of the entire population of Venezuela left the country! Also, new granada was the biggest source of gold for the Spanish Empire. Venezuela's name comes from little Venice. Apparently when the Spaniard arrived they saw Indians living in the mouth of a river reminding them of Venice. Arepas, a popular dish in both countries are Colombian, despite what other people say. And fútbol rivalry is not that important between both countries, at least for Colombia jeje we have a bigger rivalry with Argentina I would say. There was a brief span of time where Bolivar was the president or dictator of a territory bigger than Alejandro Magno, making him one of the greatest conquistador in history. For s few months.
As a Colombian-American, I grew up drinking oatmeal and having “chocolate con pan y queso”!! It was such a nice surprise you mentioned it around 18:55 because no one else I’ve met in USA has understood that… you can DRINK oatmeal, esp if you’re of Colombian heritage. Comparing South American history with North American history really puts into perspective just how hard it really was for Americans and Mexicans to build such large nation states.
I think it had a lot to do with the Viceroyalty system, most rebellions started as a way not to shake off Spanish rule... but to get away from Lima, Bogota and Buenos Aires who loved to send their relatives to the choicest jobs and administrative positions in other, lesser cities. So, when Napoleon showed up, Quito, Montevideo, Caracas, Santiago, etc, they all swore fealty to Ferdinand VII... bypassing the viceroys. And so the shooting started, it became an independence issue afterwards. Smaller colonies and a federal system prevented some cities to gaining too much power over others... for a while, it also ended up in bloodshed for the US eventually.
All the big countries on the Americas (Canada, USA, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico) function as federations, all the mid ones and smaller ones are way more centralist, kinda like european countries, with some exceptions...
@@BN.ja05 Maybe, but of all of those only Canada didnt end up killing each other over the issue, and that is beacuse they were a UK province. They may still split though... Colombia was also federal at some point, and Venezuela is still divided in states I think.
I ignore if pabellón criollo is Venezuela's actual national dish, but bandeja paisa is NOT Colombia's national dish, it only represents food from the paisa region which is why it's named like that.

Economic correction - Venezuela was the richest country in S.America but the decline started happening in 1978-2001, the year 2000 saw major growth after decades of slowdown, Chavez came to power in 1999. So Chavez actually handled the economy pretty well. But of course that might not suit the soft propoganda that americans push. Citation- Hausmann, Ricardo and Francisco R. Rodríguez, eds. Venezuela Before Chávez: Anatomy of an Economic Collapse. Penn State University Press, 2013.
Chávez destroyed the Venezuelan economy almost from the moment he arrived. He tremendously affected PDVSA's independence and productivity by exchanging its workers for his activists. He increased the debt, expropriated companies that in the short term were looted and closed down, price controls and his situation led to more than double-digit inflation in a time of prosperity. Worse already at the end of his term: high inflation, the country close to default, falling oil prices and huge public spending.

As a colombian I'd like to see a video comparing Colombia and Spain, since they share many similarities seldom talked about, like being 2 pretty mountainus countries with an square-ish shaped mainland, their capital cities are also the biggest ones, both of the capital cities are located relatively close to the geographical center of each country at high altitude, they both have 2 different coasts, they both had an anglo superpower separate a strategic part of their territory (Co: Panama Sp: Gibraltar) They both have 5 neighbors (Co: Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama, Sp: Andorra, UK, Morocco, Portugal and France) both of them have around 50 million people with sizeable migrant minorities, they both have relatively outspoken and extroverted peoples, both of them are majority catholic countries with 2 different iterations of the Virgin Mary as patron saints (Co: Virgen de Chiquinquirá Sp: Virgen del pilar) and yet in both countries being atheist/agnostic is not rare, in both countries being overly patriotic is looked down upon, both countries have an overly nationalistic neighbor (Co: Venezuela Sp: France) both have a quiet, laid back neighbor (Co: Ecuador Sp: Portugal). Both have good relationships with the powerhouses on each ones' continents/hemisphere (Co: USA Sp: Germany) both have great relationships with nearby countries that don't share a land border (Co: Mexico Sp: Italy) both of them have stereotipically dancy, talkative, hands on and warm cultures, both of them have a long musical tradition and have succesful international artists, both of them have weird national anthems (Spain's anthem doesn't have official lyrics while Colombia's anthem is long af), both countries have beautiful islands and archipelagos with unique flora and fauna, both countries had one major dictator during the 20th Century (Co: Rojas Pinilla, Sp: Franco) both countries are currently ruled by a relatively leftist head of govt (Co: Petro Sp: Sánchez) they both have 2 major separatist movements (Co: Antioquia and the Caribbean region Sp: Catalonia and the Basque country),they both are part of continental trading blocks (Co: PA Sp: EU), they both have issues with drug trafficking, they both have issues with migrants (Co: Venezuelans Sp: africans), they both love cheese, fruits and flowers, they both have a lot of mining but little petroleum unlike some of their neighbors, they both have a hip, flashy, trendy city as the 2nd biggest city (Co: Medellín Sp: Barcelona) they both have a diverse variety of spanish language accents, they both have certain traditions brought from Africa, both of their highest mountains are close to the sea and aren't a part of their largest mountain systems (Co: Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta independent from the Andes and Sp: mount Teide independent from the central system) they both have deserts, they both have several mountain chains, they both have territorial disputes with nearby countries (Co: Nicaragua Sp: Morocco), they both are kinda indifferent towards the largest country on each ones' continent (Co: Brazil Sp: Russia) they both are pretty sunny countries, they both retook islands that the British had taken from them (Co: San Andrés Sp: Menorca) they both have a great work/life balance, they both are family oriented, they both like to converse after having a meal, they both have their population unevenly distributed (Co: Andes and caribbean coast Sp: Madrid and the coasts) they both have pretty rainy areas on the northwestern region (Co: Chocó, Sp: Galicia), they both have a love/hate relationship with a neighbor (Co: Venezuela Sp: France) they both fought along and against dictatorial war generals (Co: Bolívar, Sp: Bonaparte), they both received help from the British to achieve independence, they both were united with their current neighbors temporarily (Gran Colombia and Iberian Union), they both have football as their main sport although they tend to do better on other disciplines, they both have relatively loud and amicable peoples, they both received migrants from the middle east, they both support palestine without being anti-israel, they both are located near US enemies (Co: Venezuela Sp: algeria) they both have several political parties, they both allow same-sex marriage, they both have child and pet friendly cultures, they both love to eat rice dishes more than their neighbors, both countries have popular pork dishes and several soup recipes, they both grow and export bananas, and last but not least Shakira lived in and loved both countries.

While some countries in Latin America have turned their backs and closed their doors to Venezuelan nationals, Colombia has received over 3 million Venezuelan brothers and sisters into their territory in less than a decade, it hasn't been easy for Colombia to assimilate so many people in such short amount of time, but the Colombian border is still open and welcoming all Venezuelans looking for asylum. At one point in time the border city of Cucuta in Colombia was serving over 10000 meals a day to asylum seekers. As a Colombian /American I feel proud of Colombia's empathy and generosity. Tensions have risen due to the dictator currently in power in Venezuela, who spreads hatred of Colombians among Venezuelans
Which are already a thing between Colombians from diffenret regions, so not a new prejudice at all
@@yucol5661 Both countries have similar accents

You know, as a Colombian American, this was instantly eye catching. Such beautiful and rich countries with painful histories. I’m going to be in Colombia in a few weeks for Christmas, and it’s going to be quite a party the whole time!
Represent! I'm so glad you caught this.
You’re Canadian. Not American. You’re confusing the two countries.
Since we have discovered you’re Canadian, edit your comment to say “Canadian” and NOT “American”
You have to be white to be American. Not brown like you.
You can’t be American or even in America because you’re too poor.
Was born in Caracas, Venezuela. I’m grateful you covered the history of the country! Simon Bolivar is a big hero of mine
Simón Bolivar was a coward that wanted power. He was a traitor with Miranda and declare himself a dictator of the whole continent. That’s why the people who loved the republic tried to kill him.
This was a pleasant surprise as someone whose father is Colombian! I appreciate you making this!
Well thanks for watching!

I am Colombian, but I would love Venezuela to qualify to the 2026 World Cup.
Comparing South American history with North American history really puts into perspective just how hard it really was for Americans and Mexicans to build such large nation states.
It's kind of amazing the United States and Canada were able to pull it off, especially.
The US has nothing to do with this. Go back to Moscow Ivan.

I'm a Colombian who lives in Bogotá, when You come I would be glad to help you move around, I have followed you for some time and I'm so happy you're talking about my, Country
0:44 I always thought Chile could claim to border the Atlantic because of their strange border in Tierra del Fuego, but I know that in a technical sense that's an inlet sea border and Argentina does cut it off by a sliver in a sense.
This type of video is really cool to learn more about countries!
Viva Venezuela!!
Please do compare Chile and Argentina
As a Colombian myself, this video was an eye opener. I've been always told this country is doomed and the main goal is to leave, but you made me realise it is not quite like that. Yeah it may be a bit of a challenge compared to other countries' political, social and economical situation, but it doesn't mean it is impossible to have a worthy life in here, even better considering all the great stuff we have, it's just we don't put them to good use to the max.
Loved your vid!

I’ve always been interested in these two countries

Venezuela has zero economy ...the economy... of Venezuela is in total collapse.

Venezuela is a CUBAN style communist country ...zero freedom....
As a colombian I love both countries so far even their relations are a bit unstable but I love Venezuela so far aswel and I wish they be able to fix their problems, specially economic one 🇨🇴♥️🇻🇪
Although Colombia is not a rich country, it still manages to help their fellow neighbors. Cheers, thanks for the video.
Yes, but thanks to that our crime increased due to the Venezuelans who did not adapt and I am not saying this out of xenophobia because I had Venezuelan friends.
Proud to send weapons to Ukronazis ? What a shame ! And I thought naively " well at least Colombia makes up for that being on the side of Israel"....surprise surprise your current government is on the side of Palestinian terrorists....despicable !
Nice yo end the video with a positive message, greetings from Tenerife,Canary Islands
Well as a Venezuelan who lived in Colombia... this is a surprise. Havent seen it yet but thanks for covering both countries!!!

Me gustan ambos!

I already did: th-cam.com/video/laOb31H7ufQ/w-d-xo.html
It's a continent with no government
As a Venezuelan geographer living in the US, thank you so much for making this video… ! 🇻🇪🙏
