5:02 Did you guys mix up the Pro and X footage when talking about the grass? Tom said the X version has grass and the Pro doesn't but in the footage it's the other way around.
@Dillon Sykes "So what Alex refers to as 'grass being completely stripped out' is vertical blades of grass and geometry missing so its more like a texture of grass." But that what people mean when they say "grass", at least. Not just the flat texture on the ground.
I think he misspoke and meant the PS pro has grass. 44% more resolution and less Jaggies on the X!X allows them to push the settings like Grass up on the PS pro. That would make sense anyway. I dnt think 1X has a 44% resolution gap AND higher settings. The X is more powerful, certainly by quite a bit, but not THAT much more powerful.

@Ashley Ramirez I'm not sure Microsoft has much to do with a 3rd party dev. But there is a line that once you cross it you have to give other things up. So to hit the resolution that they wanted to they had to give up some non essentials. Things that most won't notice unless you do what DF does and go frame by frame and stop and blow a frame up 300% in real time you won't notice the filter issue and you more than likely won't notice the grass issue. But you may notice the resolution difference if you have a 4k tv. If not. You won't even notice that difference.
@DigitalFoundry, please take a look at the Switch version of Grid, the result is very very impressive! Graphics, controls, sounds... What a job from the devs!!

The original grid was a very muted saturation if they're is such a thing.. This remastered version seems to have got rid of that grey which leaves us with the saturation
I've always found ps4 output seems to have its default contrast and saturation bumped up a bit compared to the neutral xbox output, even from launch back in 2013. Makes things pop a bit more (why it was done) but at the cost of realism.
Ignorance is the issue here. The industry has unfortunately succeeded in dumbing down the general population into thinking that "resolution" is paramount when the reality is that performance or "frame rates" are the far more pressing issue. The goal for these developers should be making the games run at locked 60FPS and NOT be so concerned that the game looks pretty only when you're not in motion (like less than 1% percent of the time..) Games play and look MUCH better at 1080p/60FPS than 4K/30FPS without question and the same is true when you reach truly high frame rates above 100hz. Too many apparently STILL do not understand just how important frame rates are when it comes to gaming. Resolution means VERY LITTLE when you don't have the performance to back it up. As usual the reason for the lack of performance is largely due to the lack of CPU power and hence the reason I'd never recommend console gaming to anybody even half way concerned with gaming performance. Really it doesn't cost all that much more to buy / build a rig that can run AAA games at 1080p/60FPS + which is FAR superior than what any current gaming console can do.
On a Samsung QLED TV you'll have Freesync down to 48fps. As long as they can keep above that number then Freesync users will keep a fluid gameplay experience. Apparently they didn't keep above 48fps all the time, and I'm not saying the severe FPS drops are excusable, but still you do have ways to mitigate this kind of thing on Xbox X.
@Mike UK 1970 welp. at least the switch gets that much. but can it really not run the new grid? i feel like codematers is doing the whole "testing waters" thing on switch.
@Mike UK 1970 what they should have done, was just made the GRID reboot for switch right off the bat i wouldn't be surprised at all that a 5 year old game won't sell well
Richard please this is a completely different question but please can you tell me what framerate ps2 and xbox fatal frame games run at? I can't find it anywhere online and i am really frustrated....
Grid 1 is my fav Racing game. Shame no other game comes close to it, even Grid 2 or the other racers. I hope this one does, but it doesnt seem to. I loved how easy it was to crash, how much dirt came out of the cars when they went out of the track, how cars got dirty or broken. It wasss soooo cool to see a crash, something i just got to see in Wreckfest. Still, Grid 1 wins even over that for me cuz its more realistic as well.
I've said this in every comment about Grid 1 that it was perfect because it was just as much fun in that game to race the perfect line as it was to total the car. I think they knew it too, because they had no-touch duels as well as a demolition derby, and both felt good. That's when you have that sim-arcade balance just right. I hope this game returns to that.
grant4evergamer They’re mentioning PC because the game is very optimized , hence why it can hit 60. GRID is a different game made by different developers
Actually i have both consoles and i don't care about the graphics, but could someone tell us if there will be a split screen local co op gameplay option in the game please? Or like most of the racing games, online multiplayer only. Thank you.
A 1440p mode on the Xbox One X makes sense, since 1440p monitors are supported via Xbox ironically unlike on the Pro. The game looks like fun and physical damage is accepted with open arms.
I don't see why people make a big deal if a game drops from 60fps to 52fps, it's silly. That's like someone complaining their game dropping from 90fps to 80fps.... it's still high enough to be good.
Yeah! I too am 12 years old and only play kiddie games on an under-powered tablet, please review the switch port of this old, shitty game that looks worse than it's last gen counterpart. So exciting!
Woow look at these Grid 2 graphics, I'm so impressed... The worst part of this is, it's a 55€ game (costs almost as much as a tripple A game) that's 10x the size of Grid 2, even though it has basically the same amount of content and will require a way more powerful PC with like a Ryzen 5 and a RX 580 to be able to run at ultra level of Grid 2 graphics. Are Codemasters joking or what? This is at max a 30€ game.
7:06 these are the worst shadows I've ever seen, what's going on? The original grid didn't have that problem, they can't possibly be this incompetent can they? Well now I realize that they fucked up every grid sequel they've ever made, so let's hope this one is alright on PC.
You'd not say that if you have a good 4k display... The shimmer that you get when the TV or console upscales is just so distracting, especially when you have mostly hard edge geometry, unless you filter the hell out of it but then you might as well run at 1080 if you do that.
@jvalex18 U mean 4K is only hard for Multi-Platform games. Sony push PS4 pro past it's limits with 4K checkerboard games. And Microsoft would've had more 4K games if they had more games this gen.
No it's because lazy ass game developers don't want to take the time and effort to do the work right Microsoft and Sony better crack the whip on their asses when the next systems come out

AM Watching this on my CRT monitor. Looks amazing.!!
GRID for Switch when?
This isn't the Death Stranding analysis
That would be a great idea, looked like a fun game.
jvalex18 I know, right.
The grass was on the pro, he said that backwards
Edis Delgado I think the footage was swapped
Everyone: getting ready to buy grid for current gen consoles
Me: still playing grid for ds :(
@Mike UK 1970 that's not the same grid.
Dex the gamer 😂
@Mike UK 1970 welp. at least the switch gets that much. but can it really not run the new grid? i feel like codematers is doing the whole "testing waters" thing on switch.
@Mike UK 1970 what they should have done, was just made the GRID reboot for switch right off the bat
i wouldn't be surprised at all that a 5 year old game won't sell well
The whole comment section: GRASS!!!
10:30 the wiper pattern doesn't even follow the wiper blade animation, lol
For everyone up in arms about the grass how many of you are paying attention to it when you're flying around the dam track
Richard please this is a completely different question but please can you tell me what framerate ps2 and xbox fatal frame games run at? I can't find it anywhere online and i am really frustrated....
Grid for Switch please!
Guys you can stop asking about the grass i think he saw it after the first 200 comments.
Shadows appearing right in front of your face is not a thing for such kind of game in 2019. The game looks nice other than that.
Give me 1080 and a solid 60fps instead of 80% of 4K and frame drops
Its too difficult to do on current gen consoles
I'll take the pseudo 4k and frame drops, 1080p is cack
I'd like to see this 'potato' PC you're talking about that can run Forza Motorsport 7 at 4k 60 fps.
grant4evergamer They’re mentioning PC because the game is very optimized , hence why it can hit 60. GRID is a different game made by different developers
@@unknowinglyfavorite8631 Not really
Really hope you guys doing a MW Beta 4K PS4 pro vs Xbox One X comparison so i could kick in which one to buy it for :)
please grid autosport switch analysis!!!! :):):):)
You guys inverted the screens ? The grass comparison does note with what Thom is dating.
Has this been cleared up yet ?
I don't see why people make a big deal if a game drops from 60fps to 52fps, it's silly.
That's like someone complaining their game dropping from 90fps to 80fps.... it's still high enough to be good.
The coming PC release will of course be the superior version of them all.
No one cares.
Using a 980 ti pretty old card. YOU just need something decent to game on doesn't have to be new/latest thing. Also some form of knowledge helps.
Digital Foundry has so many subscribers but so little views in return. RIP TH-cam checkmark.
Uh oh digital foundry you have to comment on “Grassgate”. Did you mix them up, or did you lie? 😂
Meanwhile I'm enjoying a lot grid on the switch, pretty damn cool game
Did Tom smoke some *grass* before talking about the grass comparision?
looks and run smooth so far, the final changes might be very subtle at the end
Will you guys do a similar video for COD : MW Beta on consoles and PC please ?
Damn, Codemasters have come a long way from being a budget developer from the early 2000s!
Codemasters are still a AA studio mate
We want the Nintendo Switch Version. Please Please Digital Foundry. Grid for Nintendo Switch
Yeah! I too am 12 years old and only play kiddie games on an under-powered tablet, please review the switch port of this old, shitty game that looks worse than it's last gen counterpart. So exciting!
@@null_subject you ignorant.
Man, GRID2 has way better visuals! I can't believe they are going to release so outdated game in 2019
7:06 these are the worst shadows I've ever seen, what's going on? The original grid didn't have that problem, they can't possibly be this incompetent can they? Well now I realize that they fucked up every grid sequel they've ever made, so let's hope this one is alright on PC.
Isnt this coming to the switch
1440p is fine. The improved detail and filtering make PS4 Pro look way better.
You'd not say that if you have a good 4k display... The shimmer that you get when the TV or console upscales is just so distracting, especially when you have mostly hard edge geometry, unless you filter the hell out of it but then you might as well run at 1080 if you do that.
Did the preview have HDR? I can see this one looking especially nice.
Just innocent quest... Does Xbox One X delivers higher resolution than PS4 Pro or there is something else like lighting, shadowns and framerate?
I swear, you guys teased CRT content WAY TOO HARD to have gone this long without seeing some of that goodness. -.-
Is this game still going to be on the switch?
Yeah. is very good Grid autosport. trust me
Nope, only one of the old shitty sequel that no on liked, and it manages to look worse than it's 360 counterpart. Have fun.
"you are getting your money's worth for that res difference"
They look identical to my eye, maybe i'm going blind? :|
Michael C I don’t see a difference either on a 4K monitor.
What about Grid on Switch (not the same game, i know) ???
5:05
That was mixed up. Either footage was labeled wrong or y'all read the script wrong and didn't catch it.
It needs multiple patches to be well cooked. and a patch for the freaking PS4 to be 60fps.
osamaFXX yea it looks like a ps3 game on the ps4
What's up with so many games in 2019 not using the full power of Xbox One X to hit 4K
Uh maybe because it drops frames and makes the racing experience very unstable.....
@jvalex18 U mean 4K is only hard for Multi-Platform games. Sony push PS4 pro past it's limits with 4K checkerboard games. And Microsoft would've had more 4K games if they had more games this gen.
No it's because lazy ass game developers don't want to take the time and effort to do the work right Microsoft and Sony better crack the whip on their asses when the next systems come out
I was so ready to buy this on the X, but if that frame rate isn’t fixed they’re not getting my money.
Over one game?
CovertBrony read what I said one more time
@@DeesBees85 Like I had said. Over a single game?
CovertBrony you’re clearly not understanding, but that’s ok.
Fps>1728p. But hey at least X has VR and exclusives..
Oh wait..
4k>60fps on my Samsung 4k 55" HDR that My PS4 can't do....
@@AvieeNash I would rather take a lower resolution at 60fps instead of no grass and 45FPS in 4K in a racing game
“VR” lol
Could you possibly look at Grid Autosport on Nintendo Switch as that game has been ported to Nintendo Switch
tdek33 that game is so old
Im loving the game on Switch
@@DeesBees85 Mmm... Nobody care. Im enjoying the game now on Switch
Is it using a bad version of TAA? I've noticed a lot of ghosting like object trails in some scenese
Please do Grid Autosport on Switch
To the average gamer there is no difference.
Confused with the grass comment. The PS4 Pro has grass. Just designed differently as it looks like it's got more growth and hasn't been mowed lol Honestly, the graphics difference really isn't that much different. Most people wont even notice if blind tested.
That's a deal-breaker for me. No grass no purchase. It's that simple 😂
Doesn't seem like a big difference visually from Grid 2.
King thrash got these dude finally putting some effort into their videos now
Storm-Shadow123 and they still mixed up the grass😂😂
Finally what is the best version ?
More "true 4k," on the One X I see :p
Lol with framerate drops and no grass.
minners71 In other words small things u won’t notice enough to matter
What are you talking about? It's completely fine on Series X.
