This game looks so good on 4K that there are moments when it LITERALLY looks like real life. Not when your up close to things, but when your on the open country roads it’s insanely realistic.
Forza Horizon is not just the most gorgeous racing game, it's one of the best racers of all time, and one of the most beautiful games of the past decade! Can't wait to see what else Playground is making!
They need to put their talents into other projects, unfortunately xbox drives the few original ips they have straight into the ground. No one denies this isnt a great title, with great technical prowess, just we've been down this road more times than we want to at this point. No puns intended!

Car talk aside, Playground Games has got to be one of the most talented developers out there. Definitely for Microsoft, imo, their recent developer acquisition most worth its weight in gold. I can't wait for Fable 4.
@felix y GT actually did hinting better as long ps2 days. And it still uses that low profile blinking gear indicator, hinting at breaking point. Why won't forza series implement something similar and sticks with this ugly mess for years and years is baffling to me.
I’ve had an X since day 1 but was still using a 1080p TV. The plan was to wait until Black Friday to see what deals they have. The demo convinced me to upgrade to a 4K HDR TV early. Should be here tomorrow.
88ihigo88 lol a cheap 4K tv won’t really are advantage of hdr since the nits will be so low. You’ll need mid to high tier TVs like Samsung, lg or Sony, Trust me I went from TCL to a Sony tv and it’s a big difference between brightness, processing motion
I play FH4 on XB1X and I prefer to play on Quality mode... The game is so beautiful it makes you want to cry. Everything just pops better in that mode. Almost photo realistic... It’s one of those things that’s hard to explain to someone... you really have to just experience it for yourself. It’s scary to think how much better this game will look on Xbox Scarlett, my head might explode!!! 🤯
Playground really are Masters of the racing genre. I was so blown away by the Demo on my rig I immediately ordered a wheel setup and subscribed to GamePass. I'm gonna play till my eyes bleed tomorrow.
Well not everyone has a 4k gaming pc, but Microsoft gives everyone a choose where ever you want to play it. Something very genius and innovating from Microsoft. Got my X for few days now and played the demo, and it's a gamer changer. I am so in love with this game
Who says pc gaming has to be 4k? I'm perfectly happy at 1080p 60 fps with my rig. Plus it's impossible to attain 60fps at such a high resolution unless you turn down the settings.
Such an amazing franchise and fantastic developer that keeps improving and raising the bar with every game. Can't wait to see what else they are working on and I'm glad to see them part of Microsoft Studios!
I love this kind of video where we can see how far game development is going into details nowadays. Us simple people can only grasp how much time and effort it asks from an entire team. Very informative and helps us gamers putting everything into perspective.
I heard the DLC, since it's England based, is going to be the James Bond Vehicles. So you're going to get to view all the individual gadgets each car has. Doubt you'll be able to use them in the multiplayer.
You can't overstate the impact of the dynamic nighttime shadows. It adds an indescribable depth and immersion that you can't unsee. The angles of light and dark thrown up against the scenery and creeping along the ground like demons emerging from the underbellies of the cars, leaping from the point where rubber digs into road... its a visual feast, a frantic beat era poem that is part of this living world but seems to extend from the player, as the cone of light from the headlights illuminates the solid, tangiblity of racecars, darkening the space beyond. Ok, so it's a little dramatic... I really love the (not so) little flourishes that make the Forza series a joy in every way.
Another big change in quality mode vs performance mode is the car models during gameplay. They look way better in quality mode. They actually have fully detailed interiors. And exterior models are better too.
Hmmm at first I was like "performance mode all the way there is no way in hell I'll be playing this in 30 fps" but my god the visuals in Quality Mode are INSANE!!! 😍

Am I the only one who can't see any drastic graphical upgrades compared to FH3? It looks very similar to FH3 in graphics and assets, just with seasons. I've played the last one so much I can't be wrong on this one. There's not much of a graphical update here, but I'm not saying that's a particularly bad thing, because it's still a good looking game. The thing that could've been improved though was LOD, but consoles are holding us back with their crappy CPUs, which bigger LODs require. I was expecting much more upgrades since xbox one x is supposed to be helping PC too by pushing graphics further. I guess not as much as I wanted to see.
I mean, for a start, like I said, view distance/LOD. Consoles can't handle higher view distances so games are built around their horsepower and not increased that much in the PC version's max settings. If consoles didn't exist developers could go ham with view distances and other graphics settings and make their games much more modular, optimize much better for PC, and would probably run much better on less powerful hardware due to the care gone into optimizing only for one platform.
TessellatedGuy They aren't as evident on a TH-cam video, but watching this game running at 4K with HDR makes FH3 look like a remastered last gen game. Even the performance mode looks better than FH3, and that's without HDR.
Thresh I played the demo at max settings on PC, I know exactly how it looks. Resolution only doesn't make a game look great. I was expecting a bump in graphical quality that makes it more obvious, like larger LOD, which is useful for large open areas like: 0:16. I could play FH3 at 4K on my PC already (after patches).
My guy the average gamer won't know any of that lol so yeah you and like 11 people will think that, not many people are THAT invested, they just want to play.
Recently I played the FH4 Demo on my Xbox One, and was blown away by how absolutely incredible everything was, and the gameplay itself was so smooth too, that I'm actually surprised to find out that it was only running at 30fps :o given that you'd require the Performance Mode on Xbox One X to achieve 60fps, as shown/compared in this video!
@@madfinntech I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of dusting off the old Titan XPP I regret buying. That is if Forza Horizon 3's PC performance is any indicator of 4's performance. If anything I want to use the performance mode on Xbox One X just to protest the stupid resolution wars. I think it's quite ironic that the least powerful and most budget oriented gaming machines (consoles) are the ones chasing high resolutions. Look at the Switch. It has a mobile APU in it and the games manage to look beautiful and usually run at 60 FPS. There's no excuse.

Played the demo on the PC and man does it look and play awesome. I have a gaming PC and an XB1X and it was just more convenient to play it on the PC - but I'll be loading it up via Gamepass once it's available on the XB1X. Forza Horizon 3, in particular with the Hot Wheels expansion, is the most fun to play driving game I've ever played, barely nudging out Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit from the late 90s, which was, and still is, an awesome game.
Glad I ditched the whole xbox name and got a PC. Paying a subscription to play online with your friends? That sounds sad and very greedy of console companies.

Height maps can't generate lods, they must have filled it with a separate algorithm. W/ Pre-made trees that has lods, same with foliage. It has to be painted in manually too. You showed the car going through snow as tessellation but that could also have been decal textures. This video was rushed -1
Quality looks great stood still like a British postcard but when moving the blurry vision takes away from it so I much prefer the smoothness of the performance mode because it maintains its graphic fidelity at all times, especially important in a racing game
I don't think so, unless they update it. People's 3D models and facial expressions are still average ATM, they need a lot of work to be used in an action game.
never been a big fan of racers only played the old forza(og xbox), burnout, and need for speed(old ones), but now I must say I'm truly impressed I'm going back to forza after all this years.
It’s great at racing... But it has allot of flaws in terms of design decisions. Allot of simple stuff like not being able to turn the music all the way down, or how hard it is to change cars, how it has to load you to a waypoint when you fast travel, then load you into the race... Instead of just loading you into the race. The actual racing is great, it’s just poorly designed.
I’m playing this on a base XB1... super excited to play on the series X now. The base version looks great and I was thinking how good it’ll look on the 1X, but series X should be even better
I am not a big fanatic of racing games. I always thought it was weird having rain splashing on screen when in third person mode. Makes the game feel more fake. Cockpit mode is the way to go imo. VR racing I agree from other comment is the best way to go. Just saying. 😁🏎️🏁
if youre like me a little bit and not sure if you want to play on performance or quality, i suggest this. Play the main campaign and showcases on quality. beat the main story or whatever that is. enjoy those deep shadows and bright reflections! then swap to performance when you get to the end game and go more competitive.
Since Forza 4 I thought, now that games are so elaborate, one could mix a racing open world game with a FPS. Like, Forza meets Far Cry. One group races, the other shoots. All in the same environment.
I played the demo, and if you pay close attention, about a minute into it, 2 closed roads and a mile of roadworks(course at warp 9 it is hard to spot), and for extra realism, when winter kicks in... No sign of a feckin gritter truck anywhere.... true simulation 😂
What they also don’t show in the footage, the reason you are forced off road to race. There’s a tractor sitting at 20mph on the road one way and 30 spandex clad middle aged men on bikes come in the opposite direction.
congrats to Playground Games for creating such a beautiful gem. I don't yet own a 1X (at some point I will), but rarely can you say about a racer (or any video game) that it is BOTH, one of the best looking games ever AND also one of the funnest racing games ever. Usually these two different aspects of video games isn't seen in one game... often a game looks brilliant visually but is at the very least somewhat flawed when it comes to gameplay (and vice versa). I just need to hurry up and get a 1X!! if it wasn't for the Forza Horizon franchise (and may be Gears), I wouldn't be thinking twice about owning a MS console. But you can't deny the greatness that is Playground Game's last two masterpieces of open-world racers (not to say FH 1 & 2 were bad games). if you are denying their greatness, then you're either a stubborn fanboy or you just don't like or care for racing games at all.
no TDU1 + hardcore mode is way way better physics wise and exploration wise and for cruising around, the only way FH4 wins is graphics and car selection hehe

I played the demo for about 15 minutes last night , it is a ma zing , even on my fat old Xbox One , the game looks and plays impeccably , the weather changes and physics are one step beyond , it is what this generation should have been.
Darrell Green Jr 4K is ideal for 65” tv’s anything bigger that and you’ll lose picture quality. 1080p is ideal for 55” so basically wait for a 6k or 8k console for a 75” tv
Bruce Banner yeah 65 is my fall back. I guess that’s why it’s easier to find reasonable 65’s for $600-$700 and 75’s are easily a thousand lol but like I said. I just want a bigger, better tv. My Phillips is a mid-end 4K tv, it’s better than owning an Hisense, Spectre, Vizio, but doesn’t match the quality of a LG/Sony/Samsung so either way I’d be upgrading. I just want he best deal possible though for a nice high end tv. So quality improvement or not, at 65 or 75 compared to what I have. It’s still an upgrade
Considering how much they use life assets to build their stuff, It still comes off as unrealistic. Take the tires at 6:46 for example, pretty weird lighting. Looks super pretty and clean, just stating an observation of them going stylistic. More Impressive is that it runs at 1080p on Xbox One, while still looking pretty similar in comparison.
Real life does not have motion blur. If you focus on the leaf passing through outside your car, you can still distinguish each leaf. In game, if you focus on the leaf, it is just a washed out blur.
Reason4Termination In a car at fast moving speeds, you'll never be able to focus your eyes on a leaf. Hence it'll be blurred. If you drive at 60mph, the motion blur won't be so heavy. It scales.
Are you all going to do a comparison between the various Valkryia Chronicles 4 versions? I am waiting to pick the game up, but want - at the very least - a baseline comparison of the resolutions for each console.
FH4 Looks and plays best on PC. Xbox One, S , X = inferior version PC = superior definitive version. I’m so glad this Microsoft published multiplat is not an Xbox one exclusive.

It's a racing game.. I'll honestly choose the 60 FPS performance mode.. Even in the old days.. I played, for example, Ridge racer on PSP which is 60 FPS, then the same game on 3DS which is 30, and i felt the difference drastically.. On another note, is this the one where you can drive through Australia? That's my home country and I am dying for a racing game that does so. Cheers

stablizershock Nope. I own Driveclub and been playing the FH4 demo. Driveclub may have some "photorealistic" look but is dated... On a big TV screen, the backgrounds and stages look very blurry and full of artifacts, due to heavily compressed textures and excessive post-processing (needed to hide the lower resolution assets since the PS4 wasnt capable of more...) Forza Horizon 4 instead, loos incredibly sharp and detailed as heaven!
All games on Xbox one x should have 3 options if capable. 4K@30fps, 1080p@60fps or 1080p@30fps with enhanced visuals like better shadows, AO, foliage, textures

I think the reason it looks so beautiful is the use of photogrammetry and the real-life captured skyboxes.

Who says pc gaming has to be 4k? I'm perfectly happy at 1080p 60 fps with my rig. Plus it's impossible to attain 60fps at such a high resolution unless you turn down the settings.

I heard the DLC, since it's England based, is going to be the James Bond Vehicles. So you're going to get to view all the individual gadgets each car has. Doubt you'll be able to use them in the multiplayer.

This game is probably the best looking game I've played. I get above 50 fps on PC maxed out at 4K and it's worth it. Truly gorgeous game.

Another big change in quality mode vs performance mode is the car models during gameplay. They look way better in quality mode. They actually have fully detailed interiors. And exterior models are better too.
Hmmm at first I was like "performance mode all the way there is no way in hell I'll be playing this in 30 fps" but my god the visuals in Quality Mode are INSANE!!! 😍
BTW, the engine is called ForzaTech and it needs more emphasis on its incredible rendering pipeline.

Am I the only one who can't see any drastic graphical upgrades compared to FH3? It looks very similar to FH3 in graphics and assets, just with seasons. I've played the last one so much I can't be wrong on this one. There's not much of a graphical update here, but I'm not saying that's a particularly bad thing, because it's still a good looking game. The thing that could've been improved though was LOD, but consoles are holding us back with their crappy CPUs, which bigger LODs require. I was expecting much more upgrades since xbox one x is supposed to be helping PC too by pushing graphics further. I guess not as much as I wanted to see.

I mean, for a start, like I said, view distance/LOD. Consoles can't handle higher view distances so games are built around their horsepower and not increased that much in the PC version's max settings. If consoles didn't exist developers could go ham with view distances and other graphics settings and make their games much more modular, optimize much better for PC, and would probably run much better on less powerful hardware due to the care gone into optimizing only for one platform.
TessellatedGuy They aren't as evident on a TH-cam video, but watching this game running at 4K with HDR makes FH3 look like a remastered last gen game. Even the performance mode looks better than FH3, and that's without HDR.
Thresh I played the demo at max settings on PC, I know exactly how it looks. Resolution only doesn't make a game look great. I was expecting a bump in graphical quality that makes it more obvious, like larger LOD, which is useful for large open areas like: 0:16. I could play FH3 at 4K on my PC already (after patches).
My guy the average gamer won't know any of that lol so yeah you and like 11 people will think that, not many people are THAT invested, they just want to play.

Recently I played the FH4 Demo on my Xbox One, and was blown away by how absolutely incredible everything was, and the gameplay itself was so smooth too, that I'm actually surprised to find out that it was only running at 30fps :o given that you'd require the Performance Mode on Xbox One X to achieve 60fps, as shown/compared in this video!
Gameplay over graphics. Double the frame time or SSAO and dynamic night shadows?

If anything I want to use the performance mode on Xbox One X just to protest the stupid resolution wars. I think it's quite ironic that the least powerful and most budget oriented gaming machines (consoles) are the ones chasing high resolutions.
Look at the Switch. It has a mobile APU in it and the games manage to look beautiful and usually run at 60 FPS. There's no excuse.

Played the demo on the PC and man does it look and play awesome. I have a gaming PC and an XB1X and it was just more convenient to play it on the PC - but I'll be loading it up via Gamepass once it's available on the XB1X. Forza Horizon 3, in particular with the Hot Wheels expansion, is the most fun to play driving game I've ever played, barely nudging out Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit from the late 90s, which was, and still is, an awesome game.

Height maps can't generate lods, they must have filled it with a separate algorithm. W/ Pre-made trees that has lods, same with foliage. It has to be painted in manually too. You showed the car going through snow as tessellation but that could also have been decal textures. This video was rushed -1

Quality looks great stood still like a British postcard but when moving the blurry vision takes away from it so I much prefer the smoothness of the performance mode because it maintains its graphic fidelity at all times, especially important in a racing game

It’s great at racing... But it has allot of flaws in terms of design decisions. Allot of simple stuff like not being able to turn the music all the way down, or how hard it is to change cars, how it has to load you to a waypoint when you fast travel, then load you into the race... Instead of just loading you into the race. The actual racing is great, it’s just poorly designed.
I’m playing this on a base XB1... super excited to play on the series X now. The base version looks great and I was thinking how good it’ll look on the 1X, but series X should be even better
I could never play a Racing-Game in 3rd Person. I played 95% of Forza 3 in Cockpit-Mode.
I prefer it when using a controller , especially in Motorsport. You can see the field way easier and make faster decisions.

I am not a big fanatic of racing games. I always thought it was weird having rain splashing on screen when in third person mode. Makes the game feel more fake. Cockpit mode is the way to go imo. VR racing I agree from other comment is the best way to go. Just saying. 😁🏎️🏁

if youre like me a little bit and not sure if you want to play on performance or quality, i suggest this.
Play the main campaign and showcases on quality. beat the main story or whatever that is. enjoy those deep shadows and bright reflections!
then swap to performance when you get to the end game and go more competitive.

Since Forza 4 I thought, now that games are so elaborate, one could mix a racing open world game with a FPS. Like, Forza meets Far Cry. One group races, the other shoots. All in the same environment.

I played the demo, and if you pay close attention, about a minute into it, 2 closed roads and a mile of roadworks(course at warp 9 it is hard to spot), and for extra realism, when winter kicks in... No sign of a feckin gritter truck anywhere.... true simulation 😂
What they also don’t show in the footage, the reason you are forced off road to race. There’s a tractor sitting at 20mph on the road one way and 30 spandex clad middle aged men on bikes come in the opposite direction.
congrats to Playground Games for creating such a beautiful gem. I don't yet own a 1X (at some point I will), but rarely can you say about a racer (or any video game) that it is BOTH, one of the best looking games ever AND also one of the funnest racing games ever. Usually these two different aspects of video games isn't seen in one game... often a game looks brilliant visually but is at the very least somewhat flawed when it comes to gameplay (and vice versa).
I just need to hurry up and get a 1X!! if it wasn't for the Forza Horizon franchise (and may be Gears), I wouldn't be thinking twice about owning a MS console. But you can't deny the greatness that is Playground Game's last two masterpieces of open-world racers (not to say FH 1 & 2 were bad games). if you are denying their greatness, then you're either a stubborn fanboy or you just don't like or care for racing games at all.

I played the demo for about 15 minutes last night , it is a ma zing , even on my fat old Xbox One , the game looks and plays impeccably , the weather changes and physics are one step beyond , it is what this generation should have been.

My Phillips is a mid-end 4K tv, it’s better than owning an Hisense, Spectre, Vizio, but doesn’t match the quality of a LG/Sony/Samsung so either way I’d be upgrading.

Considering how much they use life assets to build their stuff, It still comes off as unrealistic. Take the tires at 6:46 for example, pretty weird lighting. Looks super pretty and clean, just stating an observation of them going stylistic. More Impressive is that it runs at 1080p on Xbox One, while still looking pretty similar in comparison.

Real life does not have motion blur. If you focus on the leaf passing through outside your car, you can still distinguish each leaf. In game, if you focus on the leaf, it is just a washed out blur.
Reason4Termination In a car at fast moving speeds, you'll never be able to focus your eyes on a leaf. Hence it'll be blurred. If you drive at 60mph, the motion blur won't be so heavy. It scales.

It's a racing game.. I'll honestly choose the 60 FPS performance mode.. Even in the old days.. I played, for example, Ridge racer on PSP which is 60 FPS, then the same game on 3DS which is 30, and i felt the difference drastically..
On another note, is this the one where you can drive through Australia? That's my home country and I am dying for a racing game that does so. Cheers
No FH4 is set in Britain, the Australian one is FH3. (FH is Colorado I think, FH2 in southern France/Northern Italy)
