    Now that the Shelby GT350 and GT350R are discontinued, the Mach 1 fills the role as the track focused performance Mustang GT iteration. It is not a full out Ford Performance product like the Shelby models, but it brings various powertrain, wheel and tire and aero components from the Shelbys. I had a Mach 1 non-handling pack for a week so we lined it up with my GT350R for a walkaround and details comparison video! We take a look at the differences in styling, how the engine and transmission compare, interior differences/similarities and a few more details. If you are shopping for a new Mach 1 or considering a used Shelby GT350, this video will hopefully help highlight how they compare!

    Coyote is a way more reliable and mod friendly engine than the Voodoo, but man.. that flat plane crank sound is just amazing. I also prefer the 15-17 headlights and taillights personally.

      This is a GT350R, it’s not a modders car, it’s a purpose built track car. It’s a drivers car. And Ford spared no expense to make it absolutely perfect. It would ruin the car if you modded it. It’s not meant for a straight line, like a whipplecharged 10 speed S550 Mustang is. It’s perfect, if you whipple a 350R you’d ruin it. But the regular GT350 it is kind of a shame that it’s not as mod friendly as a 5.0, but this ain’t no regular GT350.
      The aerodynamic bits such as the splitters, diffusers, skirts, and spoiler, the brembo brakes, the steering feel, the weight reduction, the dampers and magnetic suspension, the carbon fiber wheels for rotating mass reduction, the sticky CUP 2 tires for ultimate grip, these are all upgrades that Ford put onto the GT350R over the regular GT350 which doesn’t have any of these track package goodies. The result? A ballistic missile on a track, and you still get the GT350’s 526 horsepower naturally aspirated 5.2L Voodoo motor (the best sounding V8 of all time), and you still get the upgraded manual transmission. So at the end of the day you’re left with probably the most lively drivers car on the planet. Nothing is more enjoyable to drive, especially around a track. And it’s a Ford Mustang that you can buy for less than one hundred grand. However, it is extremely violent, unrefined, brash, and there’s no comfort or luxury. So if that’s what you want but a purpose track built Porsche. But that’s the point of this car, it’s what America does best. 🇺🇸
      It’s naturally aspirated for a reason. Because naturally aspirated cars are more fun to drive. I own a modified Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG with a 600 horsepower 5.4L supercharged V8. It’s got over 700 lb-ft of torque. It hits peak torque at 2,000 RPM’s then dies off the more you go through the rev range. Which sucks. You get a punch in the gut, and sat back in your seat early, and then torque dies the faster, and louder the car gets.
      With this GT350R a big reason it’s such a fun car to drive is because all things considered, the sound, and precision yes. But most importantly, it’s naturally aspirated. As you push the gas pedal in more, the torque just builds and builds. The louder the exhaust gets, the more you get sat back in your seat, the higher the engine revs, the more you get sat back in your seat, the faster you go the more you get sat back in your seat, all the way up to a 8250 RPM redline. If you boosted this flat plane crank V8 it would completely ruin the driving experience of this car.

    I just went through the process of evaluating which one was right car for me. Found a 19 CPO R for same price as Mach 1 and am happy. Mach 1 is a great car but the R is spectacular.

    I had a 69 Mach1 428cj back in the early 70s. I'm glad they went back to that basic shape and ditched those fox body things.
    Even with that fat block that car I had was well balance and was unbeatable on the street.
    I saw one of these on the street a few weeks ago but could not get near enough to really scope it out so I'm not sure what model it was but it sounded bad. He was driving it hard.

    I asked Ford Performance why they did not put a different engine into the Mach 1 and this is waht they said "Mostly the engine choice was due to the timeline of the S550 and when the Mach 1 was placed within that timeline. There was no room for a unique engine for the Mach 1 given the S650s fast approaching release."

      While your stuck on the side of the road with a gt350 my Mach 1 gonna be lasting a lot longer. No overheating, no clutch problems, same exact frame, more reliable engine.

I personally have a 2018 R and mine never had that problem n yes i drive tf out my car n daily drive it cuz its JUST THAT GOOD. Adding more power irresponsiblely n driving like dick to your car is why people fuck their cars up.

      Except Car and Driver just did there lightning laps 2022 and the Mach 1 posted a better time around Virginia International Raceway than the 350R. So by much better what do you mean? Slower around a track doesn't fit the much better than category.

    The mach 1 is missing the "IT" factor that the gt350/voodoo provides. It's not something you can just ignore between the 2. I would still potentially own a mach1 but I would debadge it all and relable it a Boss 302

      @@THEDriverMod_ The 12/13 Boss 302 had a 5.0 (roadrunner) as well, which is 302 cubic inches. I'm not sure what you think it had. It wasn't a slap on sticker package like the 2021 Mach 1 is. It had a specific development team and specific parts. No other car had the specific parts the Boss 302 had. Roadrunner built engine, quad exhaust, etc. Best handling straight axle etc etc.

      @@johnwalker5622 The new mach one gets the Shelby subframes and tranny with twin disc clutch. GT350/Bullitt intake mani too along with the tranny cooler and oil cooler. I'd take one over the 2012 any day.

    What I find interesting that no one talks about, is the fact that the stock MANUAL Mach 1 on the dyno makes 460 to the wheel, while rated at 480 hp by Ford. Also, the stock GT350 makes about 460 to the wheels while Ford says it makes 526 hp... kind of interesting. Auto Mach 1 makes 410 on dyno. Fact check me if you dont believe it. Ford may just be trying to protect the Shelby name, and replacing voodoo with a non-problematic motor.

    People who are saying the 350 is on another level are so misinformed. Look at the track numbers. Car and Driver just did their lightning laps 2022 and the Mach 1 posted a faster time than the GT350R. The GT350 made better time on the straightaways but that makes sense where as the Mach 1 handled the corners better which makes sense.

      Why would a GT350R be slower than a mach one in the corners. The GT350 was developed along with the FP350S which was made to race. It also weighs less and has more grip. The driver is the one to blame for it losing.

    Or, you can take your Non-handling pack Mach1, throw $7500 worth of Steeda suspension and braces and camber plates, and a set of LMR MPH1 10x19’s and 11x19 with 285/35R19 fronts and 325/30R19 rears and a slight lower with Steeda magneride springs and sway bars. Now you have one pissed off looking Mach1. The bigger wheels and tires with the Steeda stance mod gives this thing a great look.

    What turned out to be the 2021-23 Mach1, should have been the next BOSS 302! The Mach1 should have been something similar to the Mopar Drag Pack. The Mach1 should have been a more Drag Strip focused Package or Model with a N/A 5.2L cross plane engine based on the GT500 mill, with optional Supercharger. It could have had larger Street Drag Radials and slightly skinny front wheels and tires. It wouldn't need the Diff and Trans Coolers but would have a shaker hood scoop and unique spoiler and nose, it would also have different transmission tuning, suspension,and maybe an electric locking rear diff. more for straight line racing. It would have been great for those guys who race 1/4 mile at a time, and my '22 Mach1 would have been a BOSS like it should'a been.

    The Mach1 is the car I would buy if looking new today. But the 350 looks so much better. 350 hands down. I am admittedly biased. I own a 2018 350.

      There’s no Bias about it, the GT350R ranks among one of the most lively drivers cars of all time, especially around a track. That has a lot to do with the 5.2L voodoo motor. It ranks among the best sounding engine of all time, certainly the best sounding V8 of all time.

    I wonder what the cost would be buying a Mach 1 and supercharging it vs buying a GT350R? Yes, I know you would void the warranty and all that, but still just curious.

      About $10k-$15k which includes parts and labor. If done by Ford warranty is still valid. Roush also provides its own drivetrain warranty. A used 350R is going to cost you $75k-$90k. You can buy a brand new mach 1 and get to 700hp+ under $65k.

    Although I enjoy the sound and feel of the 5.2 shelby, its a bit expensive for what it is in todays market. A simple tune will make the mach 1 slightly faster than the gt350. (GT350 is only slighty faster than the 5.0) There is also the reliability of the 5.0 coyote and cost of repairability vs the 5.2 voodoo. If I was interested mostly in using it for track days and had money to blow, the GT350 all they way. If I was more careful of my money and wanted a great daily driver as well, mach 1 all the way. In 2015 the GT350 vs a Mustang GT was a no brainer in terms of performance(although way more expensive). But today a recent gt350 and a 2021 Mach 1 to me are too similar, and its obvious that Ford made it an indirect replacment for the GT350.

    Debating between getting a new Mach 1 (have an order placed, but it'll be at least 3-5 months) or finding a used GT350R. My main concerns are reliability of the 5.2L and the 5.0 having a much bigger aftermarket. I'd personally rather have the Mach 1, but I'm impatient, and part of me wonders if I'll ever get it with all the supply chain issues going on.

      Reliability? Coyote over Voodoo. Better engine as far as toughness and reliability goes by a country mile. The 350R is something special but the upkeep on them is crazy, the wheels are super expensive, the spitter too.

    Id buy the Mach 1 over the Shelby. I like the thought of having the tremec without the Voodoo and not having to change out the rims on the Shelby like you did.

      A base 350 doesn't have the CF wheels like the R version. I personally didn't remove the CF wheels when I had my R, seemed stupid to pay more to get an R only to remove one of the most unique parts of it.

    Why is the Mach 1 so expensive? The CAmaro SS 1LE is 45k and essentially in the same tier as the mach 1 for almost 15k less. A ZL1 1LE would smoke this car

      The only two things of that first statement the 350R got over the 350 were the weight reduction (minor) and carbon fiber wheels. Tires I can buy on my own. The rest it is missing is the wing and minor suspension updates.

      Except the Mach 1 posted a faster time around Virginia International Raceway than the GT350R. Go and look up Car and Driver lightning laps 2022 yourself if you dont believe it.

      @@predatorshelby5780 Yeah and a base GT beats a Bullitt, which is the same thing as a Mach 1. Mach 1 guys have to CONSTANTLY defend their poor buying decisions. Just face it, they are victims of easy Ford marketing and there's no way a Mach 1 beats a GT350R on a constant basis. That's just common sense. I guess a Mach can beat Jeff Gordon too.

    You flogged your car when doing the exhaust comparison. You hardly touched the pedal on the Mach 1. You should have given the same amount of stick.
    I like the deeper sound of the Mach 1 more but the GT350 is still amazing.

      I lowered mine on eibach sportlines and added cosmetic downforce mods. Gets rid of the body roll and car feels planted. Way better than stock

      I agree. I am 6ft tall and have no issues seeing out of it. The seat actually lifts and lowers too. Granted it’s no Mustang but after 3 drives I got very used to it. I just think that for the money nothing is beating a 1LE. Guys are porting their Superchargers on the 1LE and taking the fight to the GT500 in a straight line too. The GT350 is an easier car to drive on the limit because of the lower torque figures but the 1LE simply beats it everywhere. I am completely unbiased because I love mustangs. I wanted really bad to buy a Shelby but 1LE just made more sense for me. At the end of the day tho, we’re really just splitting hairs and all of these cars are wonderful.
