Annual Profections Workshop: Timing in Astrology

- A workshop on a timing technique used in astrology called annual profections, where we introduce the technique and then demonstrate how it works in practice by taking example charts from the audience, led by astrologers Chris Brennan and Leisa Schaim.
This episode begins with a brief introduction to annual profections and review of some of the basic principles of the technique, and then we quickly transitioned into asking audience members to look through their own chronology and see if they could find any good examples that demonstrated the technique in their own lives.
In the end we had seven different audience members share their birth charts and talk about specific years in their life, explaining how the technique correlated with their lived experience.
This style of discussion can be important because sometimes it is only by talking to a person directly about their life and asking them questions that you can get a full sense of exactly how the techniques of astrology work out in practice.

I have a question in mind: My Asc is in the middle of the sign and every year i noticed around 6 month later of my birthday, the Profected Asc will change the sign, so does that mean the Year Lord will change as well for the half of the year? Thank you so much for this video! profections are so awesome! More videos about it will be appreciated.
@@dav4187 - In the older approach to profections that I follow, the profected Ascendant doesn't move forward by degree, but it just jumps one sign per year at a person's birthday, and that is it. So it is more of a symbolic technique.

I entered a 10th house profection this year. Venus rules my 10th whole sign. Today the sun went into 0 degrees of Libra and I received a job offer making the most I've ever made in my career. This is insane.

@@junemoon8675 The fifth house isn't inherently ruled by Venus--it just has its joy in the 5th House.
The ruler of a house is the ruler of the sign on the house cusp. So your 5th house would only be ruled by Venus if you had Taurus or Libra on your 5th House Cusp (this is true regardless of what house system you use).

I use profections all the time it works fantastically.

Thanks so much for this wonderful episode! The Lisa Marie Presley example shocked me the first time I saw it in the annual profections class because it's so similar to what happened to me. At 37 I'm in a 2nd house profection year, with no planets but my lot of fortune is there. My 2nd house is in Leo, with the Sun ruling, which can indicate the father in a chart. My Sun is also cazimi Uranus and in the sixth house of illness. I inherited some money this year when my father died of an unexpected heart attack which left everyone in shock (a very Uranus type of event) due to an illness everyone thought was under control. Certainly not Lisa Marie money, but the pattern holds nonetheless.

Crazy. I recently entered my 1H profection year, 1H in Leo ruled by my 10H sun. On the day of my actual birthday, my solar return, I got offered a job making the most money I’ve ever made.
Thank you for the video guys! Interesting examples and comments about how profection's influence might not be obvious from the start in a particular year. Also funny how astrologers get excited to see whether good or challenging things happening that proves astrology working in life. Appreciate people offering examples as well.

Enjoyed this video! I am just starting to learn about Profections. Feel likes its good timing as I enter a first year with Mars transiting my first house in Gemini. The 12th year example was really informative. I spent the last year rather isolated, focusing on LOVE (through art, poetry, music and taking good care of myself and my pet) Taurus/Venus vibes. And I felt the shift to take more action and get out there with this solar return.

When I learned about this technique on here I looked at a few years ago when I had a 12th house profection year in Scorpio. Because that year a parent was held hostage, i was suicidal, I had a demonic possession situation and my education was delayed, the whole year was pain and then transformation i met a healer, was taken in to a sufi group, learned to live alone and on my own on. It was the most painful year...but now I get it. Remembering it hurts even now.
I’m sorry to hear that all happened. 12th house years can be particularly rough. I am glad to know that you are now ok. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.

12th house profection year- working remotely as a nurse from home with a dog pin (I.e. imprisonment) around my work space to keep out the puppies. Maximizing all the significations.
Two years ago in my 12th house protection year I dealt with a lot of mental health issues. I also got admitted to a psychiatric hospital and got diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Ohhhh that looks like so much fun to be a part of!!!!! If only I wasn’t living in another continent in another hemisphere.

Wow so accurate. I was in a 4th house year when I started healing work for family trauma it's been a huge theme in my life since then not surprising as my north node is also in the 4th. I also experienced my Mum almost dying this year twice and spending lots more time with family.
I just had my chart read by the Men Tsee Khang Institute in Dharamsala, they use the Tibetan astrological system. In this system, obstacle years in a person's life are 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 etc. So, the same as a first house profection! (Note, when researching this, you will often see the Tibetan calculation of age adding one year to these numbers).

Crazy how accurate this is. I’m a Scorpio Rising and 26 years (2019-2020). This would make it a Capricorn 3rd house profection with Saturn. Capricorn has been going through ESPECIALLY the beginning part of 2020. This was all opposing my Cancer Sun and Mercury during all of Saturn’s conjunction. It’s been a rough year 😂
I get it! My Sun, North Node, Ascendant, Uranus, Neptune are in Capricorn. My chart ruler Saturn is in Aquarius. I feel like I've been in a squeeze for 4 or 5 years now. I'm turning into a diamond though. I'm excited to finish my Saturn Return. I was also born the day after an eclipse, so my Leo Moon is opposite Saturn

Loved this episode. Thanks. What is the signification of having the sun and profected time lord? I have my Leo fifth house profected in a day chart and it seems pretty broad to me, in terms of how the sun will affect the profected year.

Im in a 10th house year...left a job started my vocation/business however it has been slow going as im also dealing with eclipses hitting my ascendant so I've been really questioning my identity and place in the world which doesn't help with the career ha ha. I started off really motivated up til July since then basically been a hermit reflecting on who I am. Interesting mix of a year for me 😊

I wondered if the perfected house that represents the year of age can be divided into time, if a planet is at 19 degrees of the perfected house, for example, will an event related to that planet occur 7 months after the birthday date. 7x2.5=17.5 to 20 degrees. this is based on 30 degrees divided by 2.5 = 12 months of the year calculated to follow birthday .sorry if this sounds confusing.
1:30:18 Venus goes stationary before it can retrograde back to Saturn. Something to watch out for when Venus is going to be 28 1/2 or 29 from the Sun.
In a Scorpio profection year (Pisces rising age 56). My natal Mars is retrograde in my 6th house. When Mars transitted Leo last month, overnight, I experienced a sudden infection that saw me hospitalised for 10 days. I am a healthy, extremely fit woman, but got extremely ill and needed surgery. Surgery occurred the day mars became conjunct my natal mars. Cannot wait to turn 57 late December!
... and I meant to add, though I recall nothing of note at age 32 or 44, I also required surgery at age 20 (again something sudden)
I have a question: I am in my 32nd perfection year which is activating the 9th house containing my MidHeaven and nothing else. Now should I consider the MH or should I default to the ruler of the house, in this case being Jupiter residing in my 10th house.
I’ve just entered my 1st house perfection year. I’m Aquarius ascendant so I’m assuming saturn is the ruler? Not sure about Uranus? My natal saturn is 13 scorpio with Pluto at 0 deg and mars at 24 deg all in 10th house. Would this make my saturn in bad condition? I’m just learning astrology so I wondered if it meant this year il focus on astrology as that will eventually be my career?

Wow, my profection year this year is in the 6th house in Gemini, and I do have a Stellium in that house (Mercury, Venus and Sun), plus I am on my Saturn Return. D: Watching to see how it unfolds.
And when I was 24 years old, my profection year was in the 2nd house, and I have Saturn Retrograde in Aquarius in there, which is the Ruler of my Rising Sign (Capricorn), and so on that year I had to drop out College missing only one year and a half to finish, because my mom could not afford college anymore, I was studying in the US, but since I was a foreign, we did not have any financial aid for college, and so I had to drop out and I also move out of the US. Anyway, all of that was very harsh on me, still want to go back to college and finish my degree, but I am waiting the time to allow me to do so. (:
Hello Everyone, I'm a little late to the party but I couldn't resist letting everyone know that in the Oriental fortune telling(?) they also use a 12 year cycle and also use 12 symbolic signs- Animals. Just amazing!!! World's apart yet both cultures came to the same conclusion.
Thanks for this episode, it was really great. I had a question: What happens if most of the planets in your chart are either in aspect to the ruler of the year, or are activating areas of importance by sign or house location. Are these houses and areas of life also activated in turn?
For instance: I have Venus conjunct Mercury (opposite Neptune in Capricorn and trine Pluto in the 2nd) and the Sun in Cancer in the 10th house opposite the Moon.
So during Venus years, My 1st and 8th houses (Venus ruled), 2nd house (trine Pluto), 4th House (opposite Neptune) my 9th and 12th houses (conjunct Mercury) and my 10th house ( Venus in 10th) is activated.
During Mercury Years 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th, 9th 10th and 12th are activated.
During Cancer/ 10th house years it is the same plus 11th house (Leo).
I could go on and on.
I just want to make sure I am interpreting this right that all of these elements would be activated. It seems as though that can't possibly be the case, as almost all the houses in my chart would be active for large sections of my life. I could be wrong though.
I, of course used my own chart as an example because I know it best, but I hope this question and possible answer could help others.

simplify. profected house; what's in house(Valens); what house is ruler in(others), and maybe what other house that ruler rules. That's 2 or 3 houses at a time then and you don't have a complication problem.

Great presentation ! Thank you! I have a question My profections do not match if I count from 0 I would be on 5 house matters, If I count from 1 I would be on 4 house matters this year. I moved back to my home country, I am living with my mother and sister and being in touch with my biggest family, doing work from home. I was born in 1991 How is this possible? Any insights would be great.
If there are other planets in the house where the timelord is, do these get activated as well? E.g. Libra profection year with Venus in Gemini, let's say mars is also in Gemini, do the houses Mars rules get activated too?
If I am relocated in a different country my chat changes, which chart should use for projections, my natal chart or my relocated chart (planet places are different in both charts an planets affect different houses) thank you
My Asc is at 29:10 Aries - does this not rule out the Whole Sign House approach?
As long as your Ascendant is definitely in Aries and is not actually in Taurus due to a birth time issue, then it would not rule out the whole sign approach, and your entire first house would still be Aries because that is the rising sign. The most sensitive point of the rising sign would just be at the very end of the sign for you, so transits through the first may often culminate later rather than earlier, with a long build up period. You can test this by watching outer planet transits like Saturn through your first house. The first house themes will begin at the ingress of the planet into the sign, and culminate when it hits the degree of the Ascendant at the end of the sign.

Separation from the father due to divorce at age 6 , 7th H profected year. Saturn father in the night chart. Saturn severs and is activated during this year. There was no comment about the house ruler, which is Moon in the 3rd H. Moon can be mother, and sibling there as well by house signification. Siblings were involved. Communication can be involved in the repeated House 7 profected years bringing breakdown there, most especially since this house is and apex of a T Square so this house is a hard house in this chart.
My sister is in a 3rd house profection year ruler Jupiter (Pisces)with mercury sitting in the 3rd house square Neptune. On feb 1st this year Venus was conjunct her 3rd house mercury also activating the mercury/Neptune square. On this day a guy came back into her life and till now she’s been involved with him, but he’s just bread crumbing her. I’ve told her she needs to work on her boundaries.

I have saturn conjunct my lot of fortune in aries in the 11th house, which is opposite my libra sun in the 5th house (in a night chart). My dad died when I was ten, so I had to move two states away because my mom wanted live near her own family for help. I lost a lot of friends and became incredibly introverted and withdrawn during this time, except for one best friend I made right after the move. She's still my best friend today (more than a decade later) and she also has an eleventh house saturn (we met + became friends when we were both 10). the way profections have played out in my life is why i'm a believer in astrology. bc what

Yes, if an eclipse occurs in the profected sign then you know it is going to be more important than usual. In general, when people are in Cancer or Leo profection years, all of the eclipses are more important that year, because the luminaries become the time-lord for the year.

@@Yogis406 Same! I’m about to hit a 12th house profected year with Saturn in sag - the eclipse just happened over my moon Saturn (chart ruler) opposition. Time lord Jupiter is in his own sign in Pisces 3rd conjunct my IC- also having my Jupiter return in the next 10 months as well so seems further emphasised. Wondering how this is going to play out given I have a nocturnal chart 🪐 . The last two 12th years, one of them I moved three hours away to a beachside community and had a completely new life (11 yrs old), new school half way through the year- so like literally 2 weeks after my birthday, the other I returned from living overseas for 2.5 years and bought a new car later in the year. So both involved significant moves and changes in every day community/day to day life/3rd house stuff, with the 23 yes one involving Jupiter in the more traditional sense and separating (🪐) from life overseas which was quite difficult - it took me a long time to get used to living in my home country again. It’s also when I started a significant job in the public service. Given Saturn rules my first and second and is in the 12th, and the 12th ruler is in the third with my IC, I’m expecting it’s going to have flow on effects for 12,1,2,3 and maybe even 4th given that third house IC.

I’m in a 12th house profection year, Gemini with Saturn and part of fortune in the 12th. My mercury is in Sagittarius 6th house. When mars squared my mercury, that was the day I started my thyroid medication. Thyroid ruled by mercury.
Then, How should I interpretate the fact tha I had my first child on the V house profection year, one year later I had another child with another woman (that would be my VI house profection year); and eleven years after my first child was born I had a trird child with the same woman I had my first child (that would be my IV house profection year ) ? So every child was born in a different profection year !!!

Night chart, 5th house has N.Node. Saturn ruled 5th(And 6th) profect to Saturn(in 11th) when 41 and 42y/o. Jupiter in 6th(rules 4 and 7) Mars maltreating Jupiter. 7th house empty. Summers babysitting friend's boys, slave-like job with dismal pay... it SuCcKkeD. Bradybunched together, One sociopath, and other with ADD and ODD - a condition marked by chronic aggression, frequent outbursts, and a tendency to argue, ignore requests, and engage in intentionally annoying behavior. Those kids can barely keep a school, they need Supernanny, not an indentured and abusively-payed servant-slave.

Nearly killed in 2 major car accidents in 1st and 3rd house profections.
First one, area highway merger followed by an off ramp where traffic always slows but a semi driver had road rage ramming into cars (mostly mine) where it shattered the back end, when I moved out of lane he rammed the corner to swipe me into a divider where the car flipped into the grass going like 60 mph sustaining no injuries. Jupiter was in my 12 where Mercury is which would be the lord. The scorpio 3rd, t boned by a drunk paramedic on st Patrick’s say who was suspended from driving an ambulance for a vehicular homicide the week prior running red lights without sirens. In short, T bones with minor injuries but bone damage found later. Insurance company refused to pay for full head x rays so jaw damage wasn’t known for 1-2 years later which turned into another insurance fiasco over it being “cosmetic” when it’s not. My point, it does look like estimating Venus, mars, and pluto in conjunction in the 1st is more accurate because there wasn’t any major noticeable transits. You can argue both houses were impacted but it was primarily the 1st.
Helps form a house system opinion, that’s all.
I’d have so much fun going over each profection just because it can explain why a beautifully harmonic chart can be an absolute nightmare in hell. 😂 That round through profections were nasty. It reads like a spiritual chart focused on the underprivileged where just superficially glancing it’s a borderline sociopath 😆.. kidding, it’s why I don’t mind malefic’s, actually. However, being in an 8th where mechanics apparently botched my brakes not being able to get in right away is kinda freaking me out. Ha! Interesting. The 9th, 10th, and 11th should be pretty amazing actually. No whammy’s.
If I’m not being pulled into astrology for astrology it would probably be being dragged through the mud for so long and seeing that upcoming 11th profection time.
