When Granny Haze had tears in her eyes, I think that this is the biggest accolade you can give an artist. That their work move you so much that you had such a reaction. Clear sign that the artist is doing something right.
Same... but i think these two ladies have a much deeper experience with the tragedies of so many young men dying because they were sent off to fight a war... we as the next generation have been more or less lucky (speaking from a privileged european background) to live in peace
Justice is my all time favorite album, there are ZERO weaknesses on it. This album is what got me into the older thrash Metallica when I was in high school in the early 2000s. I had never heard anything like it at all, and played the CD on a loop until I wore out two copies and had to get a 3rd. I grew up in the 90s so the black album, load and reload were constantly played by my father, but this album opened my eyes to the amazing world of heavy metal/thrash, and I haven't been the same since, in the most wonderful of ways.
It's amazing how this song is a great metaphor for PTSD and the physical shit it causes after long periods of mental anguish, delusions, and hallucinations, isn't it? I got shot at the bottom edge of my frag plate, broke the bone underneath, and knocked the air out of me. A piece of penetrated, but not deep enough, but it produced enough blood for them to assume it was worse than it was and call for an evac. Got a stitch, some ice cream, and went back out to work the next day. Didn't think about for years and one day I woke up to scared and undeserving to live.
@Cyberdemon Mike drugs and alcohol can be catalysts for creativity and music. Some of the best albums ever created were written under the influence. I don't recommend trying it though.
Lars was so instrumental ... excuse the pun in the machine gun riff also... he gets so much hate but nobody realises how pivotal he is for the songwriting
it's nice to see "older" people who can respect metal and understand thats it's not just noise but rather, the deepest and most lyrically thought out genre, thank you.
People born between, say, 1945 and 1960, grew up with Rock'n'Roll and Beat music. Some of them lost their path, others stuck true to the music of their childhood, and some, like me, ventured into metal early on. I was around 10 years old when Zeppelin, Purple, Cooper, Sabbath - you name them - kicked it all off, and I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be listening to metal some 50 years later. Metal up your ass, and up the irons!
I loved the video, the song has a place in my heart, it was my grandmother's favorite song. Unfortunately she passed away in early November. Id ove to see for whom the bell tolls and day on the Green in 1985 or pulling teeth live at the metro in 1983 with their debut bassist Also, I'm familiar with the King 810. I live 20 miles from Flint in Clio where the area code is 810 (hence the band's name)
Amazing reaction. No matter how many times I've heard this song the message still comes thru loud and clear and watching you two react from a maternal side gives it more poignancy. Thanks for all you do
You ladies need to react to "Alice in Chains - The Rooster" It's about Jerry Cantrell's fathers experience in Vietnam. Very sad song (Music video is a bit graphic though, little heads up).
Yes! Agreed! Layne Staley's and Jerry Cantrell's harmonies are special! I know they are considered grunge but they are more along the lines of hard rock. So heavy. Layne's vocals were effortless. 🤘
I'll never forget being shown this music video in 10th grade in my history class. As a metalhead, I was shocked and overjoyed that my teacher would show something like this. We even set up our desks on their sides and built "trenches" with them to emulate the trenches of WWI while we watched. Seeing my classmates react to one of my favorite songs emotionally was truly a great experience for someone who always felt peripheral and like an outsider. This song has always moved me.
Metallica actually ended up buying the rights to the "Johnny got his gun" movie to use it in this video. Awesome reaction as always, thank you grannies, hope you are doing well and I hope you saw my other comments with recommendations for Gojira and Zeal and Ardor.
I managed to find this movie, and when I watched the whole thing I couldn’t believe it. All politicians and presidents should be required to watch it before ever sending young people into war.
I love Zeal & Ardor! I didn’t see your other comments, so I don’t know which of their songs you’ve already recommended, but my favorites are “Ship on Fire”, “Row Row”, and “Don’t You Dare”.

No, it isn’t. It certainly isn’t. It isn’t even a good line. The man who says that is a priest-he’s representing a religion which has caused so many massacres. Fucking “holy wars”; the Crusades; the Spanish Inquisition; the countless “witch trials”; let’s not even get into all the horrors in the Bible which may or may not have happened; and it’s still harming people today.
I have had a really, really bad day. A memorably bad day. But your video honestly made it a good night. I love that you're here, I feel so happy seeing your faces and feeling that great love for the music. I too am an over-50 rocking mama, not a grandma yet but I do have a grandpuppy! And I love metal and other subgenres of rock. I have seen this band live back in the 80s when I was young. This really brought back memories. One always makes me cry too. My daughter watched this video with me tonight. She had never seen the video and she and I were wiping away tears too. I look forward to many more videos from you two. If you ever get around to it, my favorite band is Rush. They're not metal so much as prog, but if you're not familiar with Neil Peart's drumming I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Johnny Got His Gun has been called the most powerful anti-war movie in which not a single shot was fired. it is powerful and worth the watch. If my memory is correct, the Metallica guys wrote the song and while talking about the concept (someone alive but totally unable to communicate and interact with the world) someone told them about the movie. A dear friend died of cancer and I got the music for the opening 4 notes to this song as a tattoo in tribute. Her experience and all the medications she was on reminded me of Johnny. Any metalhead who hears those 4 notes, knows the song right away.
Actually, Jonny got his gun as a movie came out in 1971. The book was published in 1938 but I definitely think there's some flexiblity in the translation of adapting literature to cinema. Then certainly to music which came in '88. There's a thorough line of truth to the concept and morals regardless whether it came before Vietnam or otherwise. Edit; either way, I love watching you guys react and talk about this.
Dalton Trumbo pulled the book at the outbreak of the second World War, he doesn't want to cause unsure heartbreak for those families sending boys to war.
It's so...curious to see people cry to One. Outstanding song, but even without that, you can just tell when the subject matter really hits home for somebody when they get teary like these ladies. Great video
It's also giving you a perspective of how soldiers actually go thru the same pain as being ordered without contorl of thier own selves and how thier body is literally a prison.
I love watching you ladies!! I'm 43, a grandma of 2 sweet littles and I will rock out til the day I die. Love your spirit. Keep rockin on and rockin hard 🤘🏻🤘🏻!
The movie Johnny Got His Gun, was a fictional story based on the same titled book. The book however was based on the true story of, Ethelbert "Curley" Christian the first and only surviving quadruple amputee from Canada during WW1. If you have some time read up on him its actually a very good story.
My Grandfather was at the liberation of Buchenwald and the thing's he told me are etched into my soul. The way he described the objects made of human skin(the General made each of the solider's walk by a table with lamps, pillows etc made from the skin of the prisoner's)so they would be forced to see up.close the evil of the Bitch of Buchenwald and the Nazi's. After the war he never slept a single night without screaming at the top of his lungs "RUDY! RUDY! I would recommend a re-listen without the video. Sometimes the video is so overpowering it interferes with the fact that this is a GREAT song. Glad you liked it!
I agree, a lot of times reactors are so distracted by the video that they lose sight of the song, especially since a lot of videos have little to do with the actual song. After all these years, I still find this video tough to watch. I nearly didn't watch this reaction because I knew I'd spring a leak. Just the song by itself is powerful enough.
i love the reaction, metallica is one of my favorite bands of all time thanks to my father that raised me with metal. my great grandfathers, my grandfather, my great uncle, and my dad all served and my grandfather passed away in 2018 on christmas day due to cancer that he got from being stationed at a base in vietnam that was storing agent orange. this song is close to my heart and always will be.
Oh, please, oh please. "Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow?" It's a song that means a lot to me. I'm curious about your take on it. You girls rock! Keep it up! \m/
This is an EPIC song! My dad was the youngest of 11 children. 4 brothers went to war. 3 in WWII and one in the Korean War. Only one was killed in the South Pacific. My little brother was in Desert Storm, never fired a shot nor was fired upon, still he is not the same. My nephew was in Afghanistan and he seen plenty, actually he seen things we can't imagine. Now he has many problems of his own and he deals with them through alcohol. Look war SUCKS.....but sometimes it is necessary. This song kinda says this. Aren't you glad you can have a channel like this and enjoy the freedom it gives you. That's why we thank our vets everyday!
This song is still impressive, it was the first Metallica song I heard when the video released when I was just a little lad in the 80's. I was way too young to understand it, but I thought it sounded cool and only grew to love and appreciate it more as I got older.
Well done ladies!! Reading some of the previous comments makes me think it is all about "them". Yes there are other songs you could listen to however this one is strong. I actually shed a tear watching your review (do not tell the wife - haha).
3:05 I also feel this sentiment, although I doubt those politicians have the empathy to understand the detriment of their actions sending their pawns out to war. Their motive is money, and war lies in industry, thus they cannot be bothered with facts and evidence. Theirs is a life based solely on faith, and decisions based on such are never healthy.
I failed to mention those fireworks we hear on this day, the 4th of July, are remnants of war. This holiday is significantly based upon our freedom, they claim. I find it hard to take thinking about war being the central focus upon which America's heartwarming spirit is analogous to.
You should listen to Five Finger Death Punch “wrong side of heaven”. That song will REALLY make you think and the music is incredible as well. I hope you can get to it soon. I really love watching you guys react. Its so refreshing so thank you
That song came out when I was 16... it is "THE" foundational, central point of my life in music. I also read the book in high school, and saw the movie several times since... its beyond words
I love the channel so far but I only have one request: I’d like to see more commentary on the lyrics. I know some of them are hard to understand, but perhaps you guys could pull up the lyrics after listening and tell us what your interpretation is? I love that you gave commentary on the meaning of this song and I’d like to see more of your insight on what the songs are about, especially since you’ve both lived through so many eras of rock. Otherwise, love the channel and you’ve definitely got a new subscriber in me! And you’re both beautiful!
Love the work you two are doing ladies. Good schtuff! As a disabled veteran, this subject matter can't be spread enough. To push the issue further, I humbly request your reaction to Five Finger Death Punch's "Wrong Side of Heaven". There's a lot of "haters" of this band, but the message is beyond that.
Great reaction. My dad was a Vietnam Vet and he didn’t talk too much about the war but he was a highly decorated soldier and received a Silver Star. He had nightmares till the day he died in 2019. I miss him but he is now free.
Not sure if "One" is my number one favorite, but it is easily top 5. Freedom isn't free, and never more than one generation from extinction ... this current generation may be the ones to tear it down.
hey grannys.. much love all the way from sri lanka.! please do a reaction to behemoth - bartzable. Love you two.. hope you two an amazing life ahead! blessings
There are some other bands you should check out: Static X, Machine Head, Ill Niño, Sabaton, Fear Factory, Earshot, Tetrarch, Spineshank, Three Days Grace, Trivium, Soulfly, and Sepultura
I have never seen such a full hearted and honest reaction than that of Granny Haze. True emotions. Thank you for experiencing this with you. You both are my favorites when it comes to see how other people think about the music I love.
My grandfather was in Vietnam also and he served 2 years and I'm happy he is still alive today and hope he lives longer to tell his stories of the past.
Metallica evokes a lot of emotion from their music. Its beauty, sadness, angst and paranoia rolled into a package. Their music is timeless. Listen to some ACDC - TNT live
I'm just going to leave my suggestions: Soldiers of the Wasteland - Dragonforce Alone in the Drak - Testament Holy Wars... The Punishment Due - Megadeth Violent and Funky - Sucidal Tendencies House of Pain - Venom Walk - Pantera

I just want to say, thank you. I have seen numerous people react to this song and most people completely miss the story of the song. Some don't even grasp it until halfway through the song. They seem to just groove to the song and completely miss the lyrics and even the clips from the movie throughout the video. You ladies could feel they were singing about not only the horrors of war, but the specific nightmare of those with debilitating injuries after the fact. I'm glad that you both enjoyed the song but also felt the weight of the words.
I hope she doesn't pause the song in the middle of one of the greatest solos ever created! Don't do it, don't do it stop.........ahhhhhh you did it! Why God why????

Metallica is one of those bands that wont hesitate to ask "when will this vicious cycle end?", because by god someone has to. damn, i need to go cheer up now, this is one depressing song, GREAT song, but depressing.
Too bad they don’t ask themselves that question...of when will the vicious cycle of them releasing shitty albums end? Haven’t made a good metal album since Justice...
I don’t know why, I’ve heard this song and seen the video countless times, but watching you two grand dames watch it made me cry. Maybe just made me think of the mothers behind the sons who die in war, I’m not sure. But this song struck me more than it ever has in 30 years.

i love the reaction, metallica is one of my favorite bands of all time thanks to my father that raised me with metal. my great grandfathers, my grandfather, my great uncle, and my dad all served and my grandfather passed away in 2018 on christmas day due to cancer that he got from being stationed at a base in vietnam that was storing agent orange. this song is close to my heart and always will be.
Oh, please, oh please. "Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow?"
It's a song that means a lot to me. I'm curious about your take on it. You girls rock! Keep it up! \m/
Fabulous reaction - loved it. I always fill up when Jason Robards is explaining democracy to the young boy. What a song!
you guys should listen to FADE TO BLACK bt METALLICA
I've seen this video a few hundred times and I still tear up at the end. Powerful stuff.
React to orion !! My favourite instrumental song of all time, very melodic
Agreed
Listen to Death - Voice of the soul. Also a masterpiece of a instrumental.
Awesome video. You two ladies have become my two favorite people right now.... So glad I subscribed.
Lol. This went from a METALLICA reaction to a history lesson. Lol
Well done ladies!! Reading some of the previous comments makes me think it is all about "them". Yes there are other songs you could listen to however this one is strong. I actually shed a tear watching your review (do not tell the wife - haha).

I also feel this sentiment, although I doubt those politicians have the empathy to understand the detriment of their actions sending their pawns out to war.

What's so thumbs down about my opinion?
@Lance Lust, nothing at all. Everything you’ve said is true.
Granny, I could see you feeling that! I just wanted to hug you! When I saw this video for the first time, I was shaken as well! Love you ladies!
You should listen to Five Finger Death Punch “wrong side of heaven”. That song will REALLY make you think and the music is incredible as well. I hope you can get to it soon. I really love watching you guys react. Its so refreshing so thank you
I agree with you wholeheartedly on this one.
they suck
That song came out when I was 16... it is "THE" foundational, central point of my life in music. I also read the book in high school, and saw the movie several times since... its beyond words
I love the channel so far but I only have one request:
I’d like to see more commentary on the lyrics.
I need a "Granny Squad" t-shir sorting your logo.
Thank you for this great and appropriate reaction video. This song is a masterpiece - as is the movie.
Ladies, I'd love to see you react to Judas Priest's "Painkiller", or DragonForce's "Through The Fire And Flames". Rock On :-)
This is definitely one of those songs that can't help but bring tears to your eyes. A true masterpiece that speaks to many on such a deep level.
hey grannys.. much love all the way from sri lanka.! please do a reaction to behemoth - bartzable. Love you two.. hope you two an amazing life ahead! blessings
Agreed! My favorite song EVER! Granny Haze -- your tears brought tears to MY eyes.
There are some other bands you should check out: Static X, Machine Head, Ill Niño, Sabaton, Fear Factory, Earshot, Tetrarch, Spineshank, Three Days Grace, Trivium, Soulfly, and Sepultura
I would love to see fear factory
OMG please do Sepultura from Brazil
Ah, another man of class
Static-X, Machine Head and Sabaton are going to be easier for them than Fear Factory, Soulfly and Sepultura though
You have a great taste in music, I love static x😁
I would vote for three days grace as well
I have never seen such a full hearted and honest reaction than that of Granny Haze. True emotions. Thank you for experiencing this with you. You both are my favorites when it comes to see how other people think about the music I love.
One is 1 of my favourite tunes by Metallica...🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻..keep rocking maybe look up some of cradle of filth..
I'm just going to leave my suggestions:
Soldiers of the Wasteland - Dragonforce
Alone in the Drak - Testament
Holy Wars... The Punishment Due - Megadeth
Violent and Funky - Sucidal Tendencies
House of Pain - Venom
Walk - Pantera
This is so beautiful to see both of you so moved by the lyrics.
Grannies, you rock! Please review Institutionalized by Suicidal Tendencies. Happy 4th!
you two are adorable!! never seen two grannies actually like heavy metal before.
just subscribed to your channel.
React to Alice In Chains - Rooster. It was written after one of the band member's family talked about Vietnam.
Give me goosebumps everytime without fail, incredible piece of work, love you Grannies! Keep up the fine work! 🖤
React to the acoustic version of Snuff with Corey Taylor
I hope they do this
I actually prefer them to listen to the Slipknot version. The acoustic is good but it’s not as impactful as the rest of the band on it
You really Rock Grannies, it's amazing to see so much love for true art, best wishes from Bolivia.
Please please react to the live version of Panteras Domination in Moscow!!!
"I think that every president and general should sit down and watch this video"
Mesmerized Grannies right here!!
My Mom, who is 80 this august, loved "One"! I was starting guitar IN '88-'89 and the song was on MTV. I would walk into the house and she would be tapping her foot to it, mesmerized!!!
Next song hahahaha!!
Anthrax: "Among the Living"
The Album "Among the Living" was dedicated to Cliff Burton (Metallica) after his tragic death. He was replaced by Jason Newsted that you see here, on his first full length album appearance)
You guys should react to wrong side of Heaven by five finger Death Punch
I just want to say, thank you. I have seen numerous people react to this song and most people completely miss the story of the song. Some don't even grasp it until halfway through the song. They seem to just groove to the song and completely miss the lyrics and even the clips from the movie throughout the video. You ladies could feel they were singing about not only the horrors of war, but the specific nightmare of those with debilitating injuries after the fact. I'm glad that you both enjoyed the song but also felt the weight of the words.
One of the best anti-war songs ever too...
Hands down the coolest grandmas I've ever seen.
I hope she doesn't pause the song in the middle of one of the greatest solos ever created! Don't do it, don't do it stop.........ahhhhhh you did it! Why God why????
I love you girls so much for loving metal like I do. My mom hated it since the 80s, when I became a metalhead.
My Chemical Romance "Helena" or "Welcome to the Black Parade" Great videos they will not disappoint!!!
Hello sweets ladies,..I love yours emocional reactions..it's a huge pleasure, see you when you feel in yourselves a real feeling about that masterpiece heavy metal song's..Thank you!! Greetings from Chile-Southamerica.. Heavy Metal
That comment at 5:00; You've GOT to be kidding me. Sad to see TDS infecting so many still.
I love that you two are so willing to give bands like Metallica not only a shot, but actually are open minded enough to enjoy the music. Thanks so much for this one. Honestly a classic and always a favorite of mine. You two are so fun and always show age is just a number. Much love ladies. Thanks for this one!
WHYD YOU LEAVE YOUR KEYS UP ON THE TABLE? 1:17
Uuuuhhhhmmm........You wanted to.
You have the best, and funniest name I've ever seen. I'm still smiling about it bro
I just joined the Granny club listened to Metallica One with y’all! I’m a Granny of 3! Having fun with you girls ! Rock on 🤘🏾
Please react to Iron Maiden - Fear of the dark, Live in Rio
Just recorded a reaction to that today. We did a lot, so might take a little bit to upload, but it's coming for sure. Thank you.

Bless you ladies, GREAT reaction.
Please react Dream Theater-Under the Glass Moon (Live in Tokio). Amazing song. Please please please
Or The Glass Prison!
YES!!!! Dream Theater is my favorite band I would love to see that
Thank you, I teared up with you. I watched this video after it suggested your review of creeping death and I am Immediately subscribed to you .........you rock. You asked for suggestions and I think after watching several of your videos that you would severely like a band called Rammstein and their video KEINE LUST, It is in German but they were popular and still are here in the USA please give them a try this is a great song and GREAT video! Keep up the great work! Matthew Schug Portland Indiana
Metallica is one of those bands that wont hesitate to ask "when will this vicious cycle end?", because by god someone has to. damn, i need to go cheer up now, this is one depressing song, GREAT song, but depressing.
As long as there will be citizens willing to waste their lives for our uncaring elites, the cycle will continue. People must learn to say no.
Please react to Avenged Sevenfold - The Stage, it's my mom's fav song :)
You two rock so down to earth. I can see in her eyes one on the right that has been or had a loved one a war
Please react to-Metallica’s: the day that never comes, amazing song!
This is the song that made me a METALLICA fan. I still remember when this video premiered on MTv, back when they actually played music. This song and "Fade to Black" along with "Welcome Home" (aka Sanitarium) are my favorites !!! Take care ladies. Stay safe. \m/
Please react to nightmare by avenged sevenfold
Nightmare, Hail to the King and Shepherd of Fire are my faves by A7X.
butter them up for a little piece of heaven I agree
