    Hi Ian. Great to see you back hiking again. As usual, love the terrain you show us. So nice that it’s in your “backyard”.
    I finally got out this past weekend with my Explore v2 E30 with the large ML core unit. It was only a 5 mi hike with 1000 ft of climbing so I carried more camera gear than I knew I needed just to test it. The bag passed with flying colors! The straps are so ridiculously comfortable and the design is so well thought out. My favorite touch is the camera pouch in the left strap. It fits my iPhone 12 Pro Max with a case. Used it countless times! So happy with my purchase. Thanks again!

    Wow, an amazing landscape! Definitely a location for the bucket list. I’m amazed at the facilities located at or near the summit - I thought that the mountain huts in the alps were luxurious but this is something else!! Here in Scotland the choice of summit accommodation is either a tent, bivvy bag or snow hole! We used to have mountain refuges called ‘Howffs’ near some of the summits, though these were all demolished back in the 70s, we still have a few Howffs and Bothys located low in the Glens (very basic shelters) but nothing high up. Then again our ‘mountains” are half the size of yours, though don’t let that fool you - due to our geographical location our weather patterns are very unpredictable, we also have a sub artic tundra/plateau found at the Cairngorm mountain range - I think we have more fatalities within the Scottish mountains then they do in the Alps, despite our incredible mountain rescue teams and relatively low mountain heights!

    You captured some nice images! Beer from a vending machine at the top of a mountain. Only in Japan! ;-) I got in my first serious hike with my new Explore v2 35L this weekend. Absolutely the most comfortable and well thought out pack I have owned. Loving it and will likely add an x50 for when I need more non-camera gear!

      Great to hear Chris. I think I could have gotten away with an E35 this trip but would have been on the edge, I like to have the extra space just in case... Also in retrospect, I should have brought my Jet boil and dried food which could have filled some of that extra room.

    In this video you talk about using water bottles. One reason I am looking at your pack is because is is compatible with a water bladder. I would love to see a video showing how well a bladder will integrate. I like to carry a 3 liter, minimum, as I live in the desert.

    This video is both entertaining and inspiring (and yes very informative regarding how good the X50 is). Just purchased a X70 here in Taiwan and used it on a trip but now I am thinking about getting the X50 for shorter trips. Absolutely enjoyed my experience with a Shimoda bag.
    Can we have more videos like this, please, pretty please?

    Just learned about Shimoda packs. Since I mainly do backpacking trips, I like the action series more. Since the action series is geared more towards adventure type activities like hiking/backpacking, it would really be nice to have built in hipbelt pockets as well as a compression strap to go over the top to secure like a jacket or a pad. Also an addition of two more side pockets for water bottles would be nice like the ones on the REI flash 55.

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, there are 2 small pockets on the belt but also an optional Accessory Pouch for the belt. There are optional Accessory straps that can attach to the top or base of the bag for externally mounting more gear like pads or jackets. And there are pockets on either side of the bag for water bottles, tripods or what ever else you want to fit in them. You can use the hidden pockets or sleeves depending on your waterbottle. Regards Ian

    • @funnybeingme
      @funnybeingme 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShimodaDesigns Thanks for replying Ian. Perhaps in the V2 of the action series, I really recommend the side pockets implemented by REI in the Flash 55 with regard to the two water bottle holder, in additional to the side pockets. It has two advantages, it doesn't block the side access to the camera and also it makes it much easier reaching the water bottles and putting it back in the pocket while wearing the pack as not everyone is very flexible in that regard. Thank you.

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@funnybeingme All I can say is try the bag and features before you change the designs... :) Having water battle pockets that actually move makes it quite easy. As well many users including myself do not wish to have exposed pockets collecting snow and other elements.

    I have the Action X30 with medium mirrorless core unit. I was going to buy a small to stack on top of it, but I think the large mirrorless might be a better fit for my uses. When will the large be available to order? Arigato goziamasu.

    Great video. Have you ever thought about using hiking sticks on your long hikes?

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do sometimes, but usually just when the weight of the pack is more than I my body wants to carry for long distances or I know the majority of the terrain will be rough or snow. For the most part I prefer not to use poles, I'd prefer my body is up to the challenge... but it's not always :) I use my tripod for the same duty if needed... less gear to mind. Overall the stronger your core is feeling, the more stable your body will carry, end of summer/fall is usually my best carry times.

    X50 has a depth of 20 cm internally and the mirrorless core unit has an external depth of 13 cm. Would the whole unit shake in the backpack, as the depth doesn't match and there seems to be no fixture in between?

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how you pack, and the external depth is not the same as the internal Core Unit area. There is only a few CM difference inside. Bag also has compression straps to adjust to what's inside. Many people including myself mix set ups like you suggest.

      It will fit the same as it does in the X50. Both share the same main compartment.
