Hi all, we are starting a new series today, Field Trips will be a little longer in format ... and pace. The goal is to help you visualize some of the many ways you can use your Shimoda gear in the field. - Ian
@@ShimodaDesigns Not gonna lie to you, I'm a pretty big wuss when it comes to heights 😅 and felt a little anxious for you when I saw the look down from the top. The GoPro footage made me go " huh, that wasn't nearly as terrifying as I thought" 😁
I have been researching travel backpacks for some time and came across your product from one of the landscape photographers I watch. I am currently binging all your field trip videos. I LOVE how you showcase the pack in a real-world setting. I bought my first action x women's version, and I'm so excited to use it for my upcoming trip.
Awesome video! It’s nice to see all those random loops and straps being put to different uses. I feel like most backpack makers just say “use these for anything!” but it’s too open-ended and you never really know where to begin. This gets the wheels turning.
Thanks Ryan, glad it was useful. It can be tough to let people know the purpose of each part... Unfortunately copy on product pages can be a bit overwhelming if too much and become counter productive. With hiking season on the horizon, hoping I can get similar videos out and and as you say get the wheels turning... and legs moving.
Ordered the x50 after watching this video. You covered all the touch points for me where I struggled somewhat with my make-do setups over the last years.... I've started planning already this winter's ski tour trips ( in the alps 😉😊) thank you Ian.
I really enjoyed the video Ian! Thank you for sharing your day long adventure and packing tips with us. Great to see how you used the Top Loader with the Action X 50. Well done! 🙌
I don't remember if I already gave this as product-feedback on one of your other product videos, but: I tried the Shimoda Toploader in a store with intent of buying it and found that it was a bit tight and narrow for my cameras, a Fuji X-T3 and Fuji X-H1, with L-bracket attached. The camera fits, but is not convenient to pull out of the holster. A somewhat wider design would be preferred. (I ended up settling on another product that has more space, for this reason). BTW -- one thing that I would really like to have, actually, is a top loader style bag that can fit a camera with lens attached, and an extra lens to the side of it (below the body but parallel to the attached lens, if I see what I mean). That would make it easier and quicker to change lenses and keep everything in a single pouch, rather than needing multiple pouches on my belt. If I need more lenses than 2 I'll put the rest in my backpack, but my goal would be to facilitate quick switching between, for instance, an f/4 24-70mm and an f/4 70-200mm (or APS-equivalents thereof).
Love this video! Just got my explorer E25 couple days ago and order a top loader today. Wondering how I can do with the top loader and found this beautiful bc trip. As a snowboarder I really appreciate how you show the way you use it. I always have my gopro with me for snowboarding and now I think I would take a camera in my shimoda as well. Miss Japow so much, hope I could bring my shimoda and snowboard in Hakuba someday.
Hi YetTing Lin, I was wondering if my Explorer V2 25L was big enough to use the Top Loader instead of the core unit when I don't need all my camera stuff. Have you tried ? Does it work or is it too tight ? Thx for your answer. BTW I LOVE MY EXPLORER .. THE BEST BAG I'VE EVER USED (coming from Lowepro and lastly from Peak Design Everyday Backpack which is really bad beside the Shimoda). Bests
@@lynlynlyn1 Yes you can, and even with top loader extended. Sometimes I carry the toploader in my explorer and put a tripod inside it as well so I won't get too much attention. and even that you still have room on the top to put wind breaker, batteries and a small flash. The combination you can do with toploader is amazing. Love it as my explorer. let me know if you have more questions. Cheers.
Another beautiful adventure you took us on, Ian…as well as showing us how adaptable Shimoda bags are in the field. I finally committed to the E30 v2 with LG ML core unit on your kickstarter. Can’t wait to get it. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be using it in the extreme ways you do! P.S. There’s no way to select an E35 with LG ML core unit, is there? It looks like the E35 only comes with the LG DSLR core unit.
Hi, it is the same material as our backpacks, so fairly water-resistant. In long periods of rain, I would put it back in the bag though. If it is positioned on the chest or another area, the pressure from your arms can pressure water in quicker. You might also expereince drips from various parts of your upper body.

Absolutely loved it. The GoPro footage from the descent was very relaxing! Thanks for sharing, glad you had a great time.
@@GertjanVanderKelen I've never heard anyone say that about Go Pro footage :) The technology is finally there! Thank you.

The “Field Trip” series is my favorite content on TH-cam. Never stop making these

Literally obsessed with these series and am binge-watching them
Very cool...can’t wait for winter here in the Southern Hemisphere.
Hope it's a good one. Ours was good but too short...

Thanks Beaver. Winter is approaching here... my X50 will hopefully make an appearance in the next couple of weeks... if the snow gods cooperate.
Love the way you connect the top loader with side bag access, will try this method for sure
Works great for minimal camera kit days. Also allows a lower profile or to get more in your front pocket.
Great video Ian!! that was really fun to see
Thanks for sharing Ian, looking forward to more of these, love seeing how you use your own gear!
Thank you Saul.

Thanks Alex, much appreciated. With summer coming, I look forward to making more.
Awesome video Ian, enjoyed it a lot! Really inspiring for me to get out more. Plus showing how great and versatile Shimoda backpacks are :)
Thanks Adam, your comment will help get me back out as well. Happy to hear the formula has legs.
Nice, thank you for the video. Looks a bit tough on the legs though
Legs recover :)

Thx a lot for your answer. Just to be sure, you can use it in the same way as in the video, with the side access door ? Max.
@@lynlynlyn1 yes, it fits the width and can connect with the door but without top loader extended.

Love these new videos! Amazing story Ian, really can't wait to see more of them :D What lens did you have paired on the body for the toploader?
Hi Tom, thanks. I had a Sony G 24-70.
How water resistant is the top loader? Could it handle long stretches of rain?
