Great watch.... I came to this video from the FB Group Shimoda Explore so was pleasantly suprised to see a travel vlog thrown in with the "what's in my bag" (V2 Med 30 owner here)
Thank you. My plan is to actually split up the XT-4 with Zooms and X-Pro3 with Primes (for different days)... but still getting used to both before I do that.
I'm loving these little road trip excursions! Looking forward to the next ones to come. The stories and photo ops are by far the best dose of medicine. Thank you Ian. By the way, I am loving the Explore 25. It's now my favorite Shimoda bag. I did love my Action X30 but it has now been reduced to second place. The extra bottom handle and extra length of the side handle is EVERYTHING!
Always look forward to these field trip videos. Your content and style is quite enjoyable to watch! On side note, got the e25 2 weeks ago and it has become one of my favorite bags (photography and non photography) I've ever own. Shocked how comfortable it is, even under load. Keep up the good work!
@@ShimodaDesigns I think it was the other way, I think we got blanked! How are you enjoying the Fuji system? I keep thinking I might do the switch from Sony as well, but sometimes the XT-4 seems uncomfortable when shooting handheld. But I really respect their decisions as a company and love the colors.

Thanks for the video showcasing the bag as well as the scenery. The drone footage really helped to capture the unique beauty of the shoreline. I have an Action X30 which I really like. It’s a very comfortable bag. A few weeks ago I carried it consistently for about 6 hours and it still felt like I wasn’t really carrying a bag if that makes sense. Really comfortable. I also really appreciate the Give Back To Nature Project. When I saw the Explorer came in a 25L I was excited because often the 30 is just to large for what I want day to day. The Action X30 does have a vegan option which is great and why I purchased it, however the Explorer doesn’t currently offer this as an option. Maybe in the future? In the meantime I’ll enjoy the X30. Cheers.
I enjoyed seeing some areas of Japan that were off the beaten track. BTW, I received my Filter Wrap 150 a few weeks ago and really think that its a great piece of gear. Thanks Ian!
Been watching your videos. First off its great to watch. To be honest been watching it because i have been on the fence for the x25 action v2 but cant find any videos that show exactly whether i can fit a canon m50 with a couple or small lens, insta360 camera, and dji mini pro 3 and pro controller. Aside from those items obviously a few more non camera/tech stuff. Not sure x30 is a good choice as it may be bigger.
Hi Ian, nice video as usual.I was even more interested as I live in Osaka so pretty close and I would have loved to join your road trip. Let me know if you come back in Kansai area and want some photographic and outdoors company as I enjoy it as well. Cheers
I would love to see a 25l and 30l comparison. I just bought the 25l because I wanted something small. But I feel like I'm regretting it if the 30l is not that much bigger but can't find videos between the two sizes.
Hi, if you compare the dimensions you should get a very good idea (now that you have a 25 in hand). The 30 is few cm taller and wider. Dims are at the bottom: shimodadesigns.com/explore-v2/
@ShimodaDesigns what's the use case between the two sizes? Maybe that will ease my mind :) either I love the 25L just wondering if it's a small difference the 30l might be the better size? Not sure. Lol
@ShimodaDesigns yeah I know but I feel like the 30 and 25 are very close to each other but can't tell with videos that are out there on YT. Been scrubbing through your videos as well as other users to determine exactly what fits. The reality is I like to keep it compact and small. From wandrd prvk line and think tank photo bags I have reviewed them all. Just trying to deep dive into the shimoda bags.

That's such a cute truck of yours! Just started looking at Shimoda bags and been enjoying your videos. Whereabouts in Maizuru was that particular canal? Last been to Ine and those row of trees in Shiga while it was snowing. It was quite something... :)

Hi I have your action x50 and love it. Thinking about grabbing the explore v2 25L and had a question about if the medium core unit from the action would fit the explore v2 25L?
I was a Canon guy at first, followed in my Dad's footsteps and borrowed his gear, used the 40D first then the 6D Mark2. Then I played around with my brothers Fuji XT2 and fell in love with the Fuji system and picked up my own XT2. Fuji gear doesn't get enough love within the camera community in my opinion. Another great vid and you take amazing pics! I also love how much Fuji gear you packed into the Explore 25. Now i know the Explore series could be a fit for me but hoping Vistek or Henry's in Toronto will start to carry the Explore V2 series in stores so I can go and check them out to pick the right size that suits my size. Ian do you know when that will happen lol!
Hi, regarding Toronto retailers, I was under the impression both did - although they may be out stock. You can try contacting the distributor directly for more detailed info (bwood@macgroupca.com). Henry's on Queen was "my first camera store", so I hope they have stock soon :)
@@ShimodaDesigns Thanks Ian for sharing that contact. Both carry Shimoda products of course but Henry's doesn't list the Explorer V2 at all and Vistek does but its on special order status. I am a PM that covers both US and Canada and I've been dealing with the supply chain mess for a long time now and our company usually prioritizes shipments of new products to US and the EU so I just felt something similar was going on. @@samuraihouse109 Hi, there is no prioritizing for us, possibly more a matter of the distributor prioritizing Shimoda and ordering the product. @@ShimodaDesigns Well when you put it that way it makes sense and I know retail took a big hit because of the closures. Great idea putting your second camera body in the top pocket. I’ve been struggling to configure my medium mirror unit to fit two Sony bodies. Did you add any other protection to the top pocket?
The upper has the light padding (as you likely know) but I did not add any additional padding. You can put dividers or foam in the front panel clear pockets to add protection but IMO and expereince in most cases it would be slim odds you will be experiencing impact that high on the bag, especially if you are mindful of it when putting your bag down. I had the CC there one day to quickly dispose of a GoPro but since it is black and the bag was black plus the location... I never noticed it when I got home and it was there for a while :)
To be honest I'm not to big on quality checks or comparisons - I think at certain levels of gear your basically getting the same thing but a different expereince... I do feel a difference in the images but nothing I could put into words. No so much a quality thing more just a different end product. I could totally be imaging it though and influenced by how cute the Fuji bodies and primes are. One thing I thought of on this trip was how 'Sony to Fuji' was somewhat a 'Mac to PC' expereince. Sony being PC and Fuji being Mac but leaning towards nostalgia instead of modern. As for switching, I have not left Sony but (due to customer feedback) I plan to create bags for more minimal set-ups in the future. The X-Pro3 and Primes will help me embed my self into that mindset.
