    I do appreciate the clicky attention. I’m not “clicky gang” or any “gang”; I like all 3 types. But it’s nice to see the clickies getting good attention. Have you heard of the new Zeal Clickiez? I preordered a bunch. They’re supposed to be modeled after ALPS tactile click switches but made for Cherry-style uses.

      How did you like the clickiez? I like them, but they're better with a spring swap from 4x to 58g. Without that they don't recover as fast. With the swap, they're my favorites.

    • @TBSxDRUMS
      @TBSxDRUMS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@andrewkailhofer4802 I was actually putting them into a hotswap board when this comment notification came up lol. I have the 75g version, unmodded. They are a bit heavy (I typically like anywhere from 60 to 80g, depending on the switch), though I think they feel heavier than they actually are due to the tactility / click mechanism.The 40g version would be too light for me, and I don't enjoy switch modding, so I need to stock up on some more 75g. That said, I am really satisfied with the feel AND sound. Testing them in aluminum gasket board now, and I am thinking they will do very well in a large plastic chassis to take advantage of a deep, resonant click. Might be reminiscent of a vintage IBM board or something similar. I'll be trying that out when my Boston 120% kit arrives. Unfortunately... that's a whole darn lot of switches I'll have to contemplate buying!

    Aye, fellow clicky gang here, I'm actually really excited when I saw this video cuz barely anyone in the community makes these types of stuff. I do agree with the opinions with some switches out there. Blues IMO is the worst ones and a lot of ppl think that every clicky switch sounded the same which is far from being true. However, I personally wouldn't put Box Jades and Navies on the S tier (probably a B tier for me) cuz there are much better switches for me such as White Owls or Arctic Foxes. (Probably that upcoming Zeal Clickez switch as well).
    Also one thing is that you can lube all parts of the clicky switch as well like linears, Just that you need to avoid lubing that triangle wedge at the back of the stem so it won't affect the click sound of the switch (this only applies to Box-Style and MX-Style with click bars only).
    Hopefully this will brighten up the misconceptions of ppl in the community about clicky switch. ^^

    honestly, i really appreciate this video, it feels good to see good clicky switches actually being appreciated and not hated on because "clicky switch baad" one thing i wish people would understand more is when clickys are bad they are terrible but when they are good they can actually be really good and i wish people would stop hating on them all because of the bad switches. case in point just because alot of clickys are bad doesnt mean they all are.
    i hate this common misconception that all clicky switches are bad, you are allowed to have preferences but the amount of hate clicky switches get in general when there are some AMAZING ones is something i wish would be acknowledged more

    I love clickies, but I've grown away from them, and now use tactile letters/numbers, and clicky function buttons. It actually makes sense to me to hear 'enter', 'delete', 'caps lock', ect.
    I think, even if I went back to a full clicky board, I'd have to have a stronger spring on my functions now. It just seems to be like that's the way nature intended it.

    Kaihl Speed Navy's - Largest tactility of any switch ever made. Fixes the sluggish long push of the Box Navy. Most cushioned bottom out of any switch ever. I call it building for "feedback." Loudest sound and biggest feel on actuation. Best switch ever made. I say this everywhere. No one every replies. Just downvotes. Tell me why I scream into the internet void and hear nothing but negativity back! I know their force curve says they are super heavy but the actuation and resistance drop(biggest ever) is so early it's effectively a medium-light switch.

    Crazy clicky gang here. Just wanted to share that I once went out of my way to get a sample of both NK Sherbets and Kailh Speed Navies for an experiment: thick click bar switch that has the same points of contact as a standard MX switch so that they can take lube better than BOX switches.
    The reason I got both is because I also wanted to address a flaw in the Speed Navies: because they're "speed" switches, their actuation comes above the actual tactile clickbar bump. That never sat right with me, and Sherbets were the only MX-type clickbar switch I knew that had full travel. I found the Sherbets atrociously uncrisp and almost rattly like click jackets. So I took the Speed Navy stem, spring, and click bar and frankensteined them into the Sherbet housing.
    The result is normal actuation clickbar switch that's more lube-able, and still as loud but has a slightly lower pitch than BOX Navies (and also the negative frankenswitch that just has all the worse qualities of Sherbets and Speed Navies lol). In the end though, buying a full set of both Speed Navies and Sherbets would make this absurdly expensive, so I just kept these on my sampler-tester and moved back to my buckling springs, w/c I really like better anyway. But at least as far as I know, this is the best clickbar switch I've never tried. Some of you might wanna try if you've got the money to burn.

    Recently put together my first custom board with Box Crystal Navys, and yeah, it blows my old prebuilt with Cherry MX Blues out of the water. Not the best switches if you're an obsessive speed typist, but the tactility is so intensely satisfying that I don't mind dropping a couple WPM. I've personally never "clicked" with linear switches, from the limited experience I've had with them

    Dont understand why we are only 5%. Linears I generally dont get unless youre a boring person altogether. Tactile is like: yeah I understand that a button is not enough.

    As a clicky gang enthusiast, I must defend the honor of my main switch the Box White. It provides not only a good click sound (which anyone should want) but it's lighter weight needed makes it one of the few clickys that are truly as good at gaming as they are for regular typing. And even then, they still provided a good tactility that would be missing from a linear switch. It's basically a jack of all trades switch, it's not exceptional for many use cases but it provides a good experience in all of them, which for people like me is a god send

    Thanks for a finally shading some light on the more under-appreciated and over-hated (imo) switch type! While more of a tactile guy myself, I personally think clickies get their bad rap currently due to MX Blues's Click Jacket mechanism, which have decent tactility but terrible2 rattly sound.
    Very unfortunate considering that other types of clickies back in the vintage days (examples include, but not limited to: Blue/White ALPS, IBM Beam Springs, IBM Buckling Springs, and NMB Space Invader Clickies) were actually really good or amazing, with some arguably having some of the best sounds in any keyboard (referring to Blue ALPS here).
    For those interested in these great vintage clicky designs, I highly recommend the videos posted by Chyrosran22 on many of these vintage designs, especially to see how vastly superior many of the Clicky designs were compared to MX Blues.
    The recent comeback by Click jackets have been really great to finally fix the reputation of Clickies, with newer clicky designs even being attempted, such as the Snap Springs shown here, and the upcoming Zeal's MX-ALPS Hybrid, the Clickiez. Here's hoping that the Clickiez design can be brought down to more affordable pricing and more friendly tactility weighting though, so that it may become a more common new type of clicky alternative!

      oh then you're absolutely gonna love Zeal Clickiez, which are modelled after none other than the vintage SKCM alps series by incorporating the click leaf mechanism into modern mx compatible switches. They have a single click which when compared to kailh box clicky switches are much more deep and bassy yet still crisp. Also if you like vintage sounding mechanical keyboards, I recommend using them in the NCR 80, which are basically hollow plastic chassis' that act as a resonance chamber and really bring out the sound of the switches. Basically they're like modernised versions of vintage mechanical keyboards, and in my opinion they sound better than the buckling springs found in the ibm model m with buckling springs (although that probably is due to them being compatible with durock v2 stabs and having less rattle or spring ping as a result of their mx housing design. The only things that you should be warned about are that quite a few people find the tactility a bit overbearing and they're pretty dang expensive, but from your description about your preference, I believe you should definitely check them out!

    I agree 100000% with you at 6:12 when you said you would put Jade and White in S-Tier then Navy in A-Tier. Personally I've tried about 8 different clicky switches and I've found Box White to be my favourite for gaming and speed typing. If I was only typing I'd go for Box Jade but if I was heavy-handed I'd agree with the Box Navy. Nice tier list thanks for posting

    Kailh's low profile clicky switches are underrated. Choc Navies are my first choice for any low profile keyboard that would actually support them.

    Thanks for making a video for all 5 of us that love clicky switches. 😂 I am now eager to build my first mechanical keyboard with box whites since I bought a stock clicky mechanical keyboard and have loved it. I plan on modeling mine after your tournament for the best looking keyboard. I’m going with the drop carina, box whites and white pom keycaps, although I’m going to try modding it a bit with tape on the back of the pcb etc to make it sound a bit deeper instead of clicky. I do have to admit I love the sound of a deep marbly keyboard.

    NK Sherbets are extremely tactile and violent but so inconsistent from switch to switch that some of them feel like they get stuck and need extra force to smash them all the way down (and the tactile bump it feels so crunchy and gross... sharp, yes, but not crisp). I enjoy that they have significant pre-travel, but that’s it. I couldn’t wait to take them out of my board lol. It’s possible I could have gotten a bad batch, but the quality and inconsistency was frankly inexcusable.

  • @Munky332

    I prefer linears for general purpose, but I feel like certain keys really should be clicky.
    Example, I'm contemplating swapping my entire F-key row on my Keychron V1 (including the escape and delete key, the arrow keys, and the pgup/pgdown/home keys) a heavier click type. generally when I'm using those keys I want a nice firm tactile (YES, YOU DEF CLICKED THIS SWITCH WITH AUTHORITY) feel.
    Also, I do a lot of VR flight simulator stuff, and was going to get 1 or 2 "numpads", like the Idobao Montex numpad or the Keychron Q0 plus for use as multi-function button panels. I really want them to have a stiff tactile CLICK. something to shatter the world if you will lol.
    Its a shame none of the gateron clickys really ended up in S-tier. I really like gateron KS-9 pro 2.0's in yellows for m every day typing keys.

    This is like a loudness tier. As far as clicky the box whites are A possibly S due to the nice loudish click and lighter on the push. Box jades are by far the loudest I've ever heard or owned, but they are very heavy, but still A to S tier... Box navy is not as loud as I thought they would be, but very comfortable to use. One not on here the budget clickies Akko TTC Gold Blue Switch is comparable to the box white/pinks, but a better click. Wither way I would put this list close to my own. Other than what I said... Cool little list. Too bad everyone is going for creamy, and thocky linear sounding builds. Something I was never really into, but after learning mods, and building a few keyboards. I will have to say thocky, and creamy is just so much better feeling, and sounding!

    • @Sh0yo
      @Sh0yo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, currently they're a bit too tactile, but if Zeal can make new versions that have a less extreme tactile bump to properly match the tactility and weighting of alps switches that provide a full travel key press rather than a tactile drop that forces bottoming out which can be a bit fatiguing when typing, as well as making the contact plates a bit more identical to the alps structure that results in a more rounded tactile bump.

    strange. I'm rather new to Kailh switches as I recently bought an Atreus keyboard, so just when I get comfortable and fall in love with the Box White, I find this and discover its regarded as a notch above, "meh!"
