You know what would be really helpful? A video concerning pet insurance options, as many of us have limited budgets and often have problems paying for vet visits, particularly those of us who are disabled and have no alternatives save animals for our socializing needs... Just a thought...

I no longer feed my cats dry food, ever. I think a diet that restricts carbs will definitely prevent diabetes/cancer. I have seen wayyyyy too many cats die from diabetes/cancer when on dry food diet.

My cat is about 12, adopted from a shelter in 2013. She weigh a little over 10 pounds then and was perfect. Some time later she started gaining weight. Over the years o have tried EVERY food imaginable and she just keeps creeping up. At the point she is just about 14 pounds. I feed her the recommended amount for a 10 pound cat, divided in three meals but she usually cries for food about two hours later. She is destructive when she wants food so it’s frustrating. She’s had the thyroid and diabetes tests last summer and nothing. Lately she is drinking more water. Problem is- she is a volcano kitty at the vet. She has been only going once a years when she had her teeth cleaned. The vet had to knock her out just to handle her to get blood work done. Any thoughts on this? I can’t afford anesthesia for a checkup!

I'm sorry you feel that way at the vet. I would definitely look for a new veterinarian. I say this only out of encouragement but I absolutely love my vet's office. They don't rush me, answer my questions, and extend the offer if I think of a question I would like to ask later I can always call. I also get an email with notes from our visit. So don't give up hope. There are amazing veterinarian offices out there just waiting to be found. 🤗

The vets office I take my cat seems to center more around dogs; however, there is a small section waiting area just for cats. The doctors, I've noticed, tend to know what they want to say, but they don't quit know how to communicate to someone who hasn't gone through vet school. I think it's time to find another vet' office.

I know this video is old, but someone may need to know this. My cat was eating normally, but was losing weight rapidly. After every test imaginable and three different vet consulations I had no answer. My cat was slowly starving to death in front of my eyes.. After researching on the web, I discovered Exocrine Pancreatic Insuffiency. I asked my vet to test my cat for this (blood test) and she hesitated saying that it was rare in cats and most were ravenously hungry. I forced her to test my cat anyway. Guess what, my cat was not making any digestive enzymes at all! Now I put digestive enzymes in her food and she has gained all her weight back. So to everyone out there - EPI is not that rare in cats. Veterinarians just don't test enough for it. Cats are not always ravenous and may just eat normally when they have it. I hope this can save someone's cat.

I’m going through the same thing right now. I have a 15 year old that had complete bloodwork up Oct 2022 , Feb 2023 and her weight was a little less but she had appt today and she lost almost 2 pounds in 8 months. I had not even noticed it. I only brought her in bc I was noticing speckled blood in bathtub after she was drinking from faucet. The night before her appt I noticed she had fleas ! I had her for 15 years and never noticed she had them and it looked kind of bad. But the weight loss concerns me and she is eating well. She had a full panel done again and is now on meds for fleas. I am nervous waiting for results. Her teeth were fine.

I can agree that cats do not show their pain no matter how severe. About a year ago my cat suddenly stopped eating started vomiting and hiding. I wasted no time bringing her to the vet. There she got the full package - blood test and an ultrasonic (mostly because my vet had a hunch). The ultrasonic revealed a severe infection of the pancreas (even I could spot that). She must have been in major pain for quite some time at this point. My vet told me a regular human would have jumped off a roof for being in such pain yet my little Mrs. tough-lady here didn't bat an eye. No crying, nothing. Luckily we could treat the infection completely and my cat is in very good condition ever since.

My cat is dying and i paid $600 at one visit. If I want further things done like biopsy or blood work that’s extra 800-1000k and to have her in patient care and get all help they quoted 4K to 8k . They said that he has lung tissue cancer or fungal infection in her lungs. Her breathing and behavior only changed few days ago and I got hit by this news. They told me to put her to sleep but this decision is so shocking I can’t make my decision. She is eating , walking and drinking water but she seems so sad and tired and she’s under 1 years old. My heart is broken. I have been crying non stop

I am still trying to cope with the loss of my baby... She got so so so sick... out of absolutely nowhere... She was so lethargic her whole life, right around her first birthday... Is when she got REALLY lethargic and I took her to the hospital immediately... Her body temperature was super low come to find out.. They had to give her a blood transfusion, but couldnt tell me what was going on with her!! I thought we were out of the woods, for a few days she was back to her quirky self! I thanked God and went on life as normal... 4 days after she came home... I went to feed her, she heard her food bag and jumped out of bed and came running as she always did... Until about half way to me... She stopped and laid down fast, and meowed this heart wrenching meow... I knew immediately something really, really bad was about to happen, I could feel it in my soul... I rushed her back to the doctor, and as we were waiting to be seen... I was holding her like a baby... she looked up at me... And this I will never forget... It haunts me still.. One of her pupils.... Like... Liquified...? For 2 or 3 seconds it look like her black pupil was like a runny egg floating around inside her eyeball... I lost my cool and started crying profusely... (I am an Army Vet btw... Male.. if this tells yall anything about how bad this was) I asked the vet what the HELL was that and she told me I must have been seeing things and not wo worry about it... She decided to keep her over night for "observation".... I pleadded with the vet to PLEASE PLEASE PLKEASE do everything they could.. I CAN NOT have kids so she was my everything... I loved and kissed her for an hour before we left.... as soon as we got in the car I had the worst break down Ive ever had I lost total control of myself... Because I was powerless to save my baby girl.. I got a call that next morning... She died in the middle of the night... Probably laying in a fucking cold ass kennel lonely and scared and I hate myself so much for leaving her...
Doc... What the hell happened to my baby??? :((

Hey, I'm so sorry this happened. Dr. Sarah doesn't answer comments at this time, and as much as I wish we could give you a satisfying answer, there's no way to fully explain what happened without being able to examine your cat and fully access her medical records.
Again, I'm not a vet, but here's my take on the situation: from what you've described, it sounds like your cat may have been anemic (given the low body temperature and need for a blood transfusion). The symptoms you described could be caused by many different things, and your vet may not have known at the time, and that's why they couldn't give a concrete answer. From my (non-expert) understanding, the symptoms sound a bit like those of FeLV or Feline Leukemia Virus, which is one of the most common and deadly diseases in cats. There is a simple blood test that can diagnose FeLV very reliably, so I would ask the vet if they did this test (if you don't know), and ask them if they have any more concrete information on your cat's diagnosis.
The reason I'm mentioning FeLV and encouraging you to learn more about it is because FeLV can cause spastic pupil syndrome and anisocoria. In other words, it can cause one of a cat's pupils to suddenly get much bigger than the other. This might explain the "liquefying" you witnessed.
I'm very sorry, not only that you lost your cat, but that you were treated in such a confusing and dismissive way. You deserve answers, and what you saw was actually in line with a possible diagnosis. Your vet should have paid more attention and been much more reassuring/informative.
I hope you can find some peace soon. Take care.
      - Mallory

I took my 6 yr old calico cat to the vet. Because she was losing hair & had severe dandruff and the Dr seems uninterested and looked in her mouth and teeth. They were fine, she said she was overweight a little. She gave me no diagnosis of her hair loss and said she was very healthy and needed a bath to help her skin, she told me to com back & pick her up in 2 hours a d she’d be beautiful. I got a cell phone call in an hour to inform me my cat was DEAD. I WAS IN TOTAL SHOCK AND TGE VET HAD NOTHING TO SAY TO ME. My 17 year old, Tiger, suffers from hyperthyroidism, and showed many of these signs, but I fear he is coming to an end because he has never been a lap cat. When he got poisoned by bad canned food (years ago) he got in my brother's lap, seeking help. Now, he is doing the same thing and getting in my lap to be petted and brushed for as long as 2 hours before I have to help him to the floor again. He is also sleeping on my bed, next to my head. I think he is trying to spend as much time with me, as possible and he goes back to the vet next Wednesday to have blood work to check how his thyroid is doing. The vet has already told me that he is surprised that Tiger is still around as he went from 11 pounds down to 6.9 pounds.

    • @mikekeenan8706
      @mikekeenan8706 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Unfortunately, Tiger stopped eating and was falling over when he tried to walk. I had to have him euthanized, a month after the former post. His ashes are spread where the ashes of my brother, his dog,, our favorite cat are and where my ashes will be, when the time comes. I'm glad he had a good last month of his life.
I donated the last $240 worth of his transdermal medication to give to others with cats suffering from hyperthyroidism and will give several cases of canned food to the local animal shelter (my other at will not eat anything but dry food). I will also donate most of his tunnel toys, and his carrier.

Our vet is a cat lover like this lady, he was especially fond of our late 22 year old Tom and I think he’ll end up as close to our kittens. In the U.K. a lot of vets come across as business men more than obvious animal lovers. Paul is different, he’s the only vet I know that credits cats with emotions like understanding their human is doing their best for them. If you get a good vet stick with them.

This veterinarian that has posted this video is amazing because everything that she has said I have symptoms with my cat. It’s crazy! She doesn’t eat a lot. She has lost a lot of weight in her back. You could see her hip bones and her spine. She’s still a little chunky she sleeps all day all night walks to the, water bowl and food bowl goes back kind of cleans herself, but she doesn’t clean her back which is oily dandruff and everything! She eats a tiny bit. She’ll take a couple bites and then she’ll go back to sleep. It’s so expensive to go to the veterinarian and I dealt with Continuous health issues with animals and their late years and I believe definitely believe it is the food whatever processed stuff they put in animal food is harming the animals there’s no smoke. It’s an inside cat never outside. It’s just sad that you have to go through this and see your animalslowly deteriorate

oh my god... the third eyelid thing... back in October of 2017, my 14-year-old cat's third eyelid was prolapsed. I took her to the vet and they couldn't find a cause for it, so they gave me eyedrops. I gave her eyedrops for a week and it went back to normal, so I figured she was fine. She got very sick and died less than 2 months later. I had assumed the timing of the eye thing was a coincidence, but maybe not...

I have a lot of signs that you have said!! Lacy is about or close to 11 years old. I adopted her from my mother last year. She is always been overweight, obese, always been very affectionate, loves to play and the last month she slept a lot doesn’t eat a lot which she never did anyway, she nitpicks like a little bird all day long she drinks her water. I’ve been monitoring everything but today what really bothered me i’ve noticed she has dropped weight. I don’t know if it’s because I have to, but she kept meowing. She would not jump on the chair which we have a special chair for her or on the couch or the bed we had to pick her up and she sleeps a lot. I don’t know what to do. That’s are very expensive and I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to afford for her to go! It scares me because I’ve had dogs and cats every animal that we’ve had has died from cancer and I believe it is the food. I had an amazing cat named socki she brain cancer and intestinal cancer at 13 years old. She died first and then we had a border collie named Layla. She died three months later of brain cancer and she was 13 years old. And then my sister Dog shadow, which was half chow half pit she had sis all over her body and died of cancer too within another three months, they all grew up together! I’m not understanding what is going on and how to approach this

I took my boy to the vet today after a few days of watching him and sure enough he had a fever and needed to be cooled down and given fluids and antibiotics. He gave the symptoms below. This is a great list.
I’ve been giving him clear pedialyte by syringe orally of course.
    1. My cat was hiding and I knew something was wrong.
    2. Not jumping or climbing. He usually sleeps in his 5ft high cat hammock. He also stopped jumping on the bed which he always does.
    3. He ate a bit but definitely not his normal amount. I’ve been feeding him meat based baby food and his love that so that’s something. He goes to his food bowl and nibbles but not much.
    4. Not grooming

Not all vets are good vets. I told my vet last August (2022) during my cat's annual visit that she was not the same cat. The vet asked "What do you mean", "Well she doesn't jump on the counter anymore, she does not want to play anymore, she doesn't drink from the sink faucet, she has become aggressive at times". My vet's answer was "Well she is getting older" (she was 6) "As for her aggression we'll prescribe some Gabapentin". I also addressed the acne on her chin and the aggression showed up when the acne appeared. She told me I was feeding her something that did not agree with her (The same food she always ate) and I should change her food. Days after the visit she became very ill and almost died. She sneezed and coughed with mucus draining from her nose all night. It was late Saturday night so I called ER and they said to wait it out and take her to a vet in the later morning (it was 2 am) So, I took her to an ER and they charged me hundreds of dollars and did nothing for her. She was also suffering from constipation, again they did nothing about that and said she was given fluids and if it continued take her to your vet the next day.
Fast forward to August 2023 and my cat suffered from constipation again and my vet gave her enemas and sent us on our way. Took her back and NOW she did an x-ray and found that she needed emergency surgery NOW. I could not afford the emergency ER and she could not do the surgery herself and it is a bit risky as well for recovery. I had to say goodbye that afternoon to my wonderful feral/stray whom I loved so much because of the actions, or lack of, from my vet. One other note, she would never give her a distemper shot. Maybe that had something to do with it? I don't know... Not all vets are good vets. Now I spend a lot of time blaming myself for all that happened. Without a doubt the worst feeling ever...

I wish there was a vet line to talk to someone when emergencies pop up. I'm worried sick right now but don't want to jump the gun and bring my anxious girl to the vet if it's just an upset tummy, and no less than 1,000.00 for emergency care.
My cat was fine yesterday, today she is lethargic and not eating. It's Friday evening, I called my vet they can't see me until next Thursday.. I don't know if I should see if it's like a bug or something.. she has stage 2 kidney disease, takes gabapentin for declaw pain (got her this way 😪) I'm a pet sitter and have 2 clients counting on me this weekend, 1 dog, 2 cats, I have to stay away from her tonight im terrified. My dad will be staying with her tonight, has anyone had a cat get a bug or sick overnight? I plan to bring her to the emergency vet if she is not better by the morning. Any advice would be appreciated. My dad let her out yesterday so there is a chance she ate something bad too. I have given her a Cerenia for nausea about an hour ago. She is drinking a ton but not eating.

I’be always watched him careful and he’s been healthy for years but all the sudden he’s just laying around the house instead of being active like normal. He’s never had a litter box and trained to go to the door if he has to use the bathroom. He goes out and uses bathroom and right back in here lately. Something just seems off,, soo I guess off to the vet. Great video.!.!.!

Very informative video. I didn't even come across the third eyelid sign when researching so thanks for that.
For your next videos, can you delve on how to manage or help your cats that are in-heat? Like a dos and donts?
I'm a new cat slave and my cat has been in heat several times. I would just like to know what are the things I can do to make it easy or comfortable for her.
P.S. - I'm still saving some money for her spay operation.

How is cancer usually diagnosed in a cat? Half a year ago my cat was diagnosed with large cell lymphoma based on an ultrasound, an aspirate, and symptoms of vomiting and inappetence. Strangely, since her first chemo treatment she hasn't shown signs of cancer, but continued vomiting, and eventually they had to stop her chemo treatment three months ago because her vomiting was so severe and led to an acute kidney infection. They then found that she seemed to have a stricture in her intestines, which they've since removed. Even now she still doesn't have signs of cancer, and her surgeon wonders if she may have just had high grade irritable bowel disease. Is an aspirate enough to diagnose cancer?

This is how they do it in humans - take an aspirate from the spot

My cat does not hide. Unless we play hide and seek and he will jump out of the box or from under the couch. He does sneeze and wheezes. The vet said he's not sick. He might have seasonal allergies. I am treating it by keeping everything clean and I clean his eyes when he has booger's. We do grooming every morning because he likes it. He loves being groomed in my lap. If anything changes I will take him to the vet. My cat doesn't eat a lot. He likes eating three times a day in small amounts. He will waste food if I give him more. I also play hard with him before bedtime. He sleeps all night. I make sure he has clean water too. He loves water. His favorite thing to do is bathing and being petted while he lays under the running water. He yells at me if I don't give him water playtime. He has toys for the bath because he loves water. I've been looking for a rubber ducky. He would love it. Also, I have towels for him. He likes certain towels. He also has a favorite nursing blanket. I keep him stress free. 🥰😺

My cat recently started showing some greasy patches of fur but she eats and drinks normally and seems to clean herself as frequently as she ever has.
