DEATH FOR A MOMENT DISAPPEARS WHEN I GARDEN….Hello from El Paso Texas. I am a nurse with 2 jobs. I need 2 jobs so that I can have enough funds to provide for my family and my father’s medical needs. My father is in the dying process and he lives with me. When he has energy I make every effort to spend quality time with him and incorporate him in my gardening. I wheel him outside and while I pull weeds or add mulch I give him a light weight hose and he waters my trees. He wets himself more than he waters my trees but it’s absolutely fine. Gardening brings us together and the outdoors helps his spirit plus he feels useful. Death for a brief moment disappears when we garden together.

OMG this was the most educational , down to earth , honest video i have ever watched. Thank you . I felt so much better about my garden after watching your video today. People are always saying to me that I have enough space to make another garden area in my yard .They don't realize I am 71 and have no one helping nor money to pay some one. I keep reminding myself that I have a pretty garden and it's just enough. Its what I can handle on my own and it's my garden and what I like and your video reinforce that when you said it's what you like.♥️Hot and humid New Jersey

Oh Amanda! You have been reading my mind and I'm so thankful you spoke about not just the garden issues and how to treat, but the issues of budgeting and watching some of the big garden YT people that most of us can't relate to. That's why I watch you the most because not only are you in my area, but you do so much with a normal neighborhood home and garden and not outrageous budget. Thank you so much for showing how to save money by growing from seed and using Facebook Marketplace for savings on pots and other items. We all want it all, but we have to realize like you have, that many gardens we admire are well established gardens that happen over time. And the most joy we should receive is just being in our garden every day and enjoying the journey that is gardening. Big hugs! As for clothing, In the heat of the summer, I love wearing my Columbia UPF moisture wicking long sleeve tops. They are very thin, but protect me if I forget to put sunscreen on my arms. I've been looking for a hat because my hair is so thick, it's hard to find one that fits my big head! LOL

I am 71 and have minimal help. I have had to purchase smaller pkgs so I am physically able move them or add soil etc. I grow in containers so I try to put in the permanent spot before I fill them. Try to grow what I can from seed or winter sow them. Winter sowing is becoming more difficult for me so I need to scale the varieties back some. I use milk crates to move and store the supplies/plantings. I save seeds by keeping labeled paper plates labeled with the name of the plant written on it. When they are dry I store. Kinda like playing cards. Gardening feeds my artistic soul. Great video. Makes me think

So encouraging to hear what you are dealing with and how you manage it all with grace! Gardening is not for the faint of heart, but it helps so much to know that others struggle at times with a hobby we love so much.

It’s all about improving my mental health. No matter what my garden is doing. It’s a challenge to see what I may or may not be able to start from seed.

  • @sharonvanderpool4611

Thanks for letting us know gardening has different seasons throughout the year..excitement and burnout..😊😊

  • @nicolechew1029

I absolutely love this video! You are so real with what you face in the garden each day

  • @cynthia3157

Spidermites! arghh Thank you for showing how you are going to "fix" it. Putting Dead bug brew on my list.

  • @jenniferhooks2454

Thank you for this honest, authentic video. I have to remind myself that I can't get everything done in a day or even a week. I focus on a short list for each day.

Cutting flowers for my house and for friends erases pain and anxiety.

When I buy plants/flowers, I feel like I'm buying mostly dirt. I try to buy annuals in the smallest container (flats), but nurseries try to get you to buy lots of dirt. I spend Mondays on maintenance (pulling weeds, purning, mowing, watering). For north Texas I'm committed to drought tolerant, native perenials. August is like breathing from an car exhaust pipe. I garden in small time increments. Love your videos - so awesome.

  • @joydover1535

Wonderful video! As a seasoned gardener in North Texas it’s refreshing to be reminded how challenging it is to keep a garden here vs the locations of other You Tube garden experts. I’ve moved to growing many more salvias after the past few summers. I’ve also changed my mindset in that we have two garden seasons here - spring and fall - not summer.

  • @kathleenvadney6217

Having a vision for where you want your flower beds and how plant height will affect your line of sight from the street as well as from inside your house is a good place to start. Even if you are only able to start one or two beds in the current year, having the ultimate goal or plan at the beginning will be very helpful. You can always change or add plant varieties as you progress. Seed starting perennials and annuals is a huge cost savings!

  • @angiestelzer1064

Thanks, Amanda! It really does help to be reminded that I need to have grace in gardening and that it is always a work in progress. There really is fun in the planning and changing up. As long as I get the big work done by end of May (zone 8b, Boerne Texas), I’m happy to just “maintain” for the rest of the HOT summer.

    Love watching!❤

I grow lots from seed even coleus and geraniums. I like you also want all the pretty things. I do save seed from many of the plants I grow. Also I divide plants. I belong to a seed library and we share seeds, plants and pots. I do have friends that share plants with me. My favorite treatment for black spot is a product called bio advance rose and flower care but it works wonderfully. I’m NC zone 8a. It is very hot and humid here as well. Good advice at wearing clothing suitable for the weather and hats are a must for me. Pacing yourself is the only way to survive in the sticky south. Thanks saying what we all face!
