@@Flowesomecat same reasons people do it in real life? societal pressures, family pressures, religious pressures ect. alot of people put too much weight on the idea that to be happy a child must remain with the birth parents particularly the mother. So much so it takes a literal track record of abuse/neglect for a child to be taken away, society as a whole needs to have proper sex education and realize not every single damn woman or couple is ready/wanting to have kids so they shouldn't be judged for taking options B or C.
I mean it would make sense, her parents are completely healthy. So it’s a reasonable assumption and adds up to the fact that her parents didn’t really care about her that much.
Scootaloo's parents: We've decided to become a part of your life due to the recent dangers of Ponyville Also Scootaloo's parents: *Decide to bring her along on their dangerous and life-threatening missions instead of just fucking quitting their job*
Imagine abandoning your disabled daughter. I hope they had Scoots so that the aunts could raise a child, rather than her being an accident and her parents pushing her onto the first couple they saw.
when i was watching the show i honestly thought scootaloo was an orphan, i never really saw her live any where, she was always by herself, and when she called rainbow dash out on how supportive rainbow dash's parents were and rainbow dash was embarrassed by their support, it just seemed to cement to me she was an orphan. then i met her aunts and thought oh her aunts are busy at times hence why she is alone sometimes and figured her parents were dead, then i actually saw her parents and oh my gosh what horrible, selfish, inconsiderate people her parents are. abandoning their child, putting their careers first, and never talking to scootaloo about moving or compromising and taking safer jobs. scootaloo deserves better and i am glad she has her aunts because her mom and dad are terrible people and i hope scootaloo is nothing like them and when she has kids she will be an actual parent.
The thing I hate about Scoots parents the most is who they're based on. Jane Goodall and Steve Erwin. Those two were actually very loving and responsible people. Steve in particular was an incredible father, aside from that one time he held his infant son too close to a croc. But the fact they make these two so horrible, and base them on such amazing real life people just infuriates me so much.

@@diddles3383 No, but in case you don’t know, Scootaloo’s aunts apparently left her with a babysitter for no reason at all MORE THAN ONCE! And they never bothered moving into Ponyville in the first place! What kind of parental figures do that?!
@@FeligamiAdrizoeSworaDooplivian why in the world would you like parents that : • Negelected her • left her just for they're jobs And worse is that they didn't even listen to her or talk to her, if you think her parents are "great" then why would they leave they`re *DISABLED* child, FOR A *JOB* , they didn't even give time for scootaloo! And as people said, or what I've seen, is that she's been showing hints she wants to talk about moving, but what did her parents do? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, they ignored the hints and forced her to move out of they`re house, when she clearly did not like the idea, and THEY ONLY ALLOWED HER OR LET HER STAY BECAUSE OF HER CUTIE MARK or her club, and they`ve left her for months or YEARS, her parents are absolutely horrible, they barely cared for scootaloo, and left her *insecurities* .
My theory she can’t fly is on account of her father being an earth pony. She might of inherit a bit of his earth pony muscle which makes her heavier than the average Pegasus her age and to top it off was that her wings were born too short which could also be from the earth pony genes. So my head canon is that ponies who have two different tribes of pony as parents (e.g. an earth pony and Pegasus, an earth pony and unicorn, etc.) that the said child has a probability to struggle with a certain aspect of that tribe’s natural talent ( magic, strength, and of course flight). So if that is the cause a doctor would of inform the parents of this before the baby’s birth. The reason Scootaloo might be unaware of this knowledge is if her parents didn’t tell anyone and/or didn’t want to tell to make her feel bad.
@@hedonismbot1508 As I said in my post there is a PROBABILITY. So one born with two different tribes or is a different tribe than both parents that they might struggling with a certain aspect whether it being flying, magic or strength. Sorry if I didn't make that clear
@@tmntgirl4life I guess it's possible. Though as for trying to spare her feelings by not telling her: Properly establishing her as disabled and getting her a glider or something (both the show and the comic have displayed examples of heavier-than-air flight technology - there's no excuse for her not to have been offered some assistive device) would likely have turned out better than letting her yearn to fly while nopony offers her any real assistance there.
Scootaloo has two of the worst parents: - According to the episode they have been writing to their daughter which according to Parental Glidence they have not given her any encouragement and according to Flight To The Finish are likely the reason for her insecurities. - Them forcing her to move is a plot hole sense according to the episode they shouldn't have custody of their daughter. - They ignore their daughters obvious hints that she is upset even when she spells it out for them. - They only let her stay because of her cutie mark which is to say they didn't learn anything.
She also has the worst aunts. They say they love her, yet all they ever did was leave her behind. Even if it’s under the care of other ponies! If that’s not an example of bad parenting and child neglect, I don’t know what is.
I feel their relationship portrays real-life parenting more than most other characters. This is why I should never have children, I'm a career girl and a workaholic, I don't see myself ever being able to put a child over that, and sadly society isn't fully on board with the understanding that some people should just never be parents. Just because you can be a parent, doesn't mean you should.
I always dreaded the idea as a kid that I would have to grow up and eventually have kids. I was so relieved when I got older and figured out that I don't actually have to have kids and I can't even discribe the relief I felt. On top of that I had a shitty home life growing up and there's no way in hell I'd ever subject a child to that kind of hell.
Exactly and people are always shocked when they say I don’t want kids when I just said I would be a bad parent “oh but you don’t know that” yeah I think I know my own self more than you know me Karen...
"Not every parent deserves a child, but every child deserves a parent" I am also not a kid person, I get anxiety and stress when I'm around children, but society still pressures me into having them. I know I will not take care of a child and would have a much better life getting sterilized and knowing that I can never have kids. But no doctor will ever allow that operation, because "You're too young and don't know what you want and will regret it later." So I'm not old enough to say I don't want kids, but old enough to have them? Make it make sense
Wait how is Heinz a bad dad. Yes, he tried to take over the tri-stat area but he moved passed it. He stopped being a villain more or less for her (it's been awhile since the ending of pheanas and ferb so my memory is a bit fuzzy). Heck, he spent a day (at least) as her summer science teacher. Edit: Sorry, I misread the line saying Heniz being a bad parent. Not his parents being terrible.
I've hated them since day 1. I agree with every single point and hate them so much. Scootaloo deserved much better throughout the series. I'm possibly reading into it too much, but the neglect can actually explain a lot about Scootaloo's character in the series. The reason she admires, clings, and wants to be around Rainbow so much is because of the lack of a consistent parental figure in her life. Rainbow is the first permanent family she can have, so she will subconsciously cling to it. Because of this admiration, it explains why she is so set to fly and would probably blame that on her parents' disappearance. As someone who has gone through a very similar situation, you still have that feeling in the back of your mind. She wants to prove herself capable because of her fear of those leaving as her parents have. It can really weigh on you.
As someone with a deadbeat mom. I can confidently tell you they don't really care. Or at least enough to do anything about it. And that's the same thing really.

I couldn't believe her parents just showed up and said 'hey we're moving!' You don't be gone for weeks or months then come back uproot someone's whole life.
Are we going to ignore that the CMC were shackled to the "for sale" sign while scootaloo's parents were taking everything out? Seriously, can Lofty and Holiday just adopt her?
Lofty and Holiday are Scootaloo’s legal guardians; I would’ve loved to see Rainbow adopt her as she would have legit supportive parents and an older sister this time around!
@@jades_cabinet they are negligent parents, unlike Scotaloo ones they travel to safe places but they don't take their daughter because yes It's showed in a episode but i don't remember what episode
ALSO I FORGOT TO POINT THIS OUT: I like how, in order to try and paint Scootaloo’s parents better, they had to make Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty’s arragement seem worse than it actually is. Like yeah, they’re only in Ponyville for the weekend, but they take care of her, and they don’t live far away so Scootaloo can visit them whenever. The people that babysit her throughout the week also take care of her and love her. Is it less than ideal? Yes. But you know what? A lot of kids IRL are in a similar situation. And as non-ideal it looks, it still works because the caretakers have a set routine the child can follow, and oh yeah, THEY ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE CHILD IN QUESTION! The episode could’ve been good, it could’ve brought attention to how not all deadbeat parents are 100% sociopathic trash heaps. Sometimes deadbeat parents are genuinely good people in other aspects, but it’s just painfully clear that their child is not the most important thing in their lives.
6:50 imagine seeing your parents again for the first time in a long time and then these people you barely know jam their way into your life and try to remove you from the only support system you've had for years.
It makes me uncomfortable since they are very obviously based on the Irwins. There is a video of Steve crying as he gushes about how much he loves Bindi after she was born, both he and Terri have shown so much love and care toward their two kids. Yet here it seems they intended for Scoots parents to be a tribute to them but it comes off really poorly, especially since this was made long after Steve passed. It just feels overall disrespectful to his memory.
I honestly think Scootaloo was an accident baby. Her parents did not plan on having her, but they went ahead and did, leaving their jobs to have her than going right back to what they love doing. They may still love their daughter...but no where near as much as their jobs. That's why they leave Scootaloo with her aunts, who do care for her and clearly stay involved in her life as much as possible, had they lived in Ponyvile before, you bet Scoota would be living with them already. What makes everything sadder is, this happens in real life too. Parents may care for their child, but give up their jobs and prefer someone else raising their child...while still caring, or somewhat loving their child for being their child...they dont care enough to be with their child and keep doing a job that takes all their time and attention away... At least Scootaloo has loving aunts, friends and is very important to Ponyvile.
I totally agree Mastercode, Scootaloo's parents are the worst however even though it's clear that they care more about their careers than their daughter, part of me understands that in some cases when it comes to life sometimes career gets in the way of family, also i absolutely adore Scoots relationship with her aunts they truly love her with all their hearts, in fact you can totally tell that even though Scootaloo is their niece, to Holiday and Lofty she's more than that why to Holiday and Lofty Scootaloo is the closest thing to a daughter they ever had!!!
I agree with you that Scootaloo's parents aren't the best. Looking through the comments, most people are assuming that they care more about their job more than their child without thinking about the situation they had to leave her with her aunts. Maybe something like a virus or wild creature threatened to destroy Equestria or something and they were called in to contain it or stop it. There are still unknown details. And of course, you can't explain everything or get that from just one episode. It's possible, but it would be hard to. And besides, it seems like the team behind this episode was trying to make the parents seem good but not overly aware, and if what I theorize was the reason why they left Scootaloo behind, it was probably cut because they couldn't flesh it out, or it took away from the plot of the episode. And remember, the storyboarders can't do everything perfectly.
Omg, if you can NOT spend some of your precious time for your kid, tHAN DON'T FREAKING MAKE ANY KIDS. Don't make their life misserable if you wanna focus on your carrier
@@joshuayonemura2572 i agree that work MAY get into the way of family, HOWEVER... it should only be temporary. And even if there was some sort of danger, perhaps they should have thought about that before having a child at all. Since it looks like they haven’t seen her in such a long time, probably years, they didn’t put the effort to be a part of her life AT ALL. If they truly loved her, even if they were the “only ones good enough to do the job”, they could have asked for more people to take over, or, even better , TEACH others how they do their job so they could leave and spend time with her more often, even if they still worked there . They could have made it work between them as a family, but they didn’t. It gets worse when you hear them say at the end of the episode that they left Scootaloo because they loved their job too much. It just reads as “I love my career more than my own child”, and is wrong on so many levels. It’s why so many people these days are much more vocal about not having children, because they don’t feel like they would make good parents, or just don’t want kids. See, the second the child is born, the well-being of your children should always come first, regardless of what you think of them, if you wanted them, or what their personality is. Everything in your life gets moved to the side. That’s an entire human being who depends on you. Scootaloo’s parents are an example of parents who put their job first, and their child second, or last. The fact that they just suddenly came back but didn’t care about her feelings (both in that episode and the comic) just shows that she was just really an afterthought to them. It was as if they just remembered she existed and was like “oh yea, we had a kid. I think we’re supposed be together? Idk” and took her away. Scootaloo deserved so much better. In glad she has such amazing Aunts.
"Scootaloo's parents are the worst" Rarity and Sweetie Belle's parents. "Hold my beer." Seriously, the two of them practically dump Sweetie Belle on her sister without discussing it with anyone so they can go off and vacation without having to worry about a foal. Oh, and this isn't just a few day thing, no, this is pretty much a permanent arrangement with them only visiting on the occasional holiday. Scootaloo's parents at least can claim that their work is too dangerous to have a foal around, but Sweetie Belle's parents. don't have that excuse. They just want to go out and have fun and not worry about parental obligations at all.
You can still make the argument they are in their daughters' lives. Throughout most of the series, none of the Pegasi even had families to speak of. Not even vaguely hinted at. They just sprung into existence in seven and eight without warning, then had a couple of subsequent appearances, but never anything essential. Fluttershy, RD and Scoots' have pretty consistently been nothing but disasters. All the rest had ups and downs all around.
@@TheNotverysocial the show was mostly set in ponyville, and most pegasus families are in cloudsdale. Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy moved away from their families to ponyville, so it’s not a very fair comparison.
@@TheNotverysocial yeah I had a small theory for a while that Pegasi don’t live with the family structures we are used to and that normally the foals are raised by all the ponies in the town they live in and that the most important family ties are siblings and maybe sometimes cousins and other close relatives instead parents and children and also that earth ponies have closer families and care more about it and unicorns are kinda in the middle
To be honest, most of the mane 6 didn't have great parents either Sure Fluttershy's parents aren't mean or anything but are in a way neglectful because they probably never disciplined zephyr breeze. As someone else commented, Rarity and Sweetie Bell's parents just dumped sweetie bell with her older sister. They make almost no appearance. Rainbow Dash's parents' actions could have resulted in a bully and narcissistic daughter. Pinkie's parents are just quite boring they never incorporated fun into anything. Twilight and apple jack are the only ones with "good" parents. It's sad that apple jack's parents aren't alive anymore though, but granny smith seems to be doing a great job. Twilight's parents are good enough if you compare them to the other parents, they helped twilight into the school of magic but never really encouraged her to make any friends or socialize.

I remember thinking way back in Season 2, when the cutie mark crusaders started getting attention, that the way that there was a danger to how heavily emphasized cutie marks and destiny was weighed and imported. That there was a clear slippery slope in pony society where your mark and what you wanted/what was best for you could outweigh a family. I expected it to stay a grimdark head cannon. And then this happened; showing us the bottom of the slope was alive and well after all.
The message at the end is gay parents are best parents lol. I thought scoots aunts were adorable when I first saw them. They got me thinking tho “wait, aunts? Not as in they’re sisters but they’re married and one of them is the sister of one of Scoots parents?” So it looks like they’re mlp’s first gay couple. Then Lyra and Bonbon and rainbow and AJ in the finale
They left a little filly all alone in Ponyville And they lived out of town but they didn’t try to do anything other than saying “come and visit us” basically But they are 100x better than the parents tho :)
What if Celestia herself gave Snap Shutter and Mane All-Good their professions? If that's the case, one can't just up and refuse a royal order to do what they do
While it may excuse their absence (partialy) it doesn't excuse everything else. Their blaintant disreguard for her safety, not caring enough to do things that she likes once in a while and the total unconsideration of her feeling are all issues that have nothing to do with their absence. Or they could've at least made sure that she has an adult figure in her life that is always there. Perhaps hire a babysitter, or ask her aunts to be in Ponyville while they are absent for Scoots sake. They were emidately all for it so I doubt they'd reject it if they were asked earlyer. The point is, it's fine for parents to not be able to spend time with their children, life heapends and you learn to live with it, but there is a bare minimum you have to provide for your child altho you can not be with them. The standarts are ground low and Snap Shutter and Mane All-Good are somehow miles bellow it.
The problem is that is leading to us fans making up the story for the show, Steven universe had a *lot* of that and I would say it almost (or maybe did) ruin the show. In MLP they never said that Celestia sent them out for work or anything of the sort, if the creators don't explain something then it best to say that it never happened, so maybe it's a possibilty that Celestia told them to go to dangerous lands to help Equestria, but if that didn't happen in the show then it never happened.
Her parents are so unfair! I mean they show up out of nowhere to tell her that she’s moving away from everyone she has grown to love because they weren’t there for her! I think her antis are better parents(and a better couple) than THEM
Here's something that'll put a smile back on your face. Scoots parents eventually travel to monsterverse skull island and get devoured by skull crawlers.
@Mangogurl OwO I mean they did practically say that AJs parents are dead, so they could've just done the same here where they suggested that Scoots parents were gone
Normally I say that reason why parents work a lot is for their family. And we shouldn’t blame them if they not always there. But here.... It’s just child neglect. They don’t really care about Scootaloo. They only care about their work. It’s not what I call parents.
At least Timmy's parents are portrayed as neglectful and are the literal reason why he has fairies, the worst is that Scoot's parents are meant to appear good
I can see the design influences from the Irwins but thankfully Steve and Terry were with yheir kids well unyil Steve you know... died. But even inspirit he is with them.
Hey Arnold did this a lot better. Stella and Miles at least gave up their passion and only left Arnold to help out a tribe that helped them out. They owed it to them. They didn’t expect to catch the sleeping sickness. They were only supposed to be gone for a few weeks. Why not take a Wild Thornberrys approach and take the kids with them?
Yeah, I agree these parents are really bad, caring about their job more then their daughter’s happiness is bad at best. What made them worst is that they don’t try to explain why to their daughter, or try to dry her tears when she is clearly upset about that. They just drop in after how many months or years, make this life altering decision, and not care with what their daughter has to say! They are not Timmy turner’s parents level of bad, but they are one of the worst of the show.
So her aunts are kind to her and are caring yet leave her to the watch of others? Sure she's better off in the care of her aunts but the fact still remains she's home alone a lot sooooooooooo..... It's still neglect.
Until they officially took her in and had her move in with them permanently. And to be fair, they did still have jobs (I think, Idk about Lofty since she seems kinda old). Maybe that’s why they couldn’t take her in before. Maybe her parents still visited her every once in a while, so taking full custody of her wasn’t on the aunts’ minds. Idk. And it’s hard to figure everything out from just one episode.
Honestly out of this whole series I feel like rainbow dash has been the best role model for scootaloo I mean come on! Her real perents are never there for her and the guardians she does have leave her unsupervised sometimes I mean sure there waaaayyy better than her real perents but still! so tell me this WHY is rainbow dash not her guardian!?

@@Splatt707 I just think Dashes parents are clearly over obsessed with their Daughter and don't respect her boundaries at all. For example, who keeps their daughters diaper for YEARS?! @@spicybicy6667 Perhaps my parents were odd but it really isn’t that unusual to keep your child’s diaper. I see it the same way as making a mold cast of your baby’s hand.
Sadly Scootalo may never be able to fly because of her wings being so small. And I dont see her parents trying to change their ways to acomodate her in their adventures like she dreams, they just had her and left. They don't even write her letters, and I'm pretty sure that relationship never got different since scootalo became a teacher in Twilight's academy rather than going in adventures with her parents
That fact that her dad is also supposed to be a Steve Erwin esc character, (literally one of the kindest souls this world has ever seen, and who would never abandon his kids if he had a choice) is just a punch in the gut.
Was having Scootsloo planed? It explained that they cared more about the job than her daughter maybe because they didn’t want a daughter. Or they wanted a son So the parents are disappointed with scootsloo and neglect her. Wait... scootsloo colors only her mothers. Do we think that’s scootsloo dad isn’t her birth dad?
I'm starting to think Scoots is an accident foal based on her parents behavior. they clearly weren't ready to be tied down by a foal as their entire lives revolve around their jobs and not their kid, so they dump their baby on the aunts like some sort of pet needing care while they're on holiday. there are many cases of real world scenarios like this with unplanned kids and their birth parents. some being dropped off with other family to care for them or put up for adoption all together.
THIS VIDEO IS EVERYTHING... I think a lot of people (including the writers) tend to not recognize the pattern neglect or abuse people like Scoots' biological parents lay down. A lot of people really go to the ends of the earth to defend parents like this simply because "oh but job important!" or things like that, trying to make others really sympathize with the parents... but it's always odd to me that people never think of the kid, yet somehow the child is always blamed. Unlike children who can usually hold no legal power, let alone power in general, Parents do have those rights as a legal adult. They are able to make more choices that can and *should* be more understanding of their child, but more often the not, the child is still put as the center of blame. "You're just not understanding enough." "You're parents really do love you, they just have important things to do." Things like that are commonly said by other non-involved parties and sometimes even the parents. This could even be categorized under gaslighting if put into the right context. It's only natural a child would feel unloved if their parent's practically insist on stay as far away from them as possible or flat-out ignoring their feelings. Telling the child they are misguided or being too dramatic to make them second guess their own judgement very well *can* be gaslighting. There's so much more I could go one about, but I don't want to write a whole essay. Sadly, this relationship for Scootaloo and her parents can become all too real for people in real life. Pretending things like this are normal or okay and that you should just "be more understanding" may under mind a lot of neglected children's feelings and it worries me that it's so normalizied nowadays. Anyway, great video! I enjoyed it and I agree with all your points!
@@nightshroud9671 mmm I think it'd be kind of interesting but ultimately pointless in showing them in another light? I do think it'd be really fun though if they had them learning to change a bit and understand their daughter! I just,,, really don't have enough faith in the writers to do that.
The only thing you missed in this video is that I think her aunts were just leaving for only those few days and they're probably home a lot, but Scoot goes out often to hang out with friends.
The recent dangers of king sombra and the tree of harmony destroyed to go get her. You didn't get her when Nightmare moon got free, you didn't come when discord got free, you didn't come when queen chrysalis appeared, when the 2 princess disappeared, when tirek attack, when chrysalis came back or when magic disappeared.
I know MLP FiM has come and gone now, but I still can't get over how fucked up it is that the show made it seem like anything these awful parents are doing is okay/normal. Like what kind of message were they trying to send to kids and families?!
the fact that they basically abandoned her means that they didnt want her. when scoots was born she was a mistake cuz she was born when the parents were having "fun", and well unlike most parents they didnt want to give that up, so they just use money to take care of her. i bet thats why she even lives in ponyvile, cuz the town is so small that everyone knows everyone unlike in the cites where criminals tend to live (and im not counting the world ending ones) ppl will know if this kid gets snatched or hurt by someone.
Growing up with an emotionally empty and abusive schizophrenic, I can say that it was never easy to be a kid. I had to be the adult even though I was a kid, I was taught by a loving man before he passed to cook and clean but yet it was never enough. Friends? Forget it! No one wanted to be friends with the 'girl with the weird grandmother who thinks every conceivable branch of government is after her'. If I DID manage to make a friend, along comes someone to whisper in their ear or along comes a panicked teacher who just got wind that a new kid had made friends with me. My entire childhood from age 4 onwards and my health problems are why I said no thanks to kids!
Something to consider for the prosecution: why couldn't Scoot's parents take turns on their deployments? Characters like A.K. Yearling clearly show that there are other adventuring ponies, Fluttershy mentioned a society focused on the conservation and study of rare creatures, meaning there are a lot of ponies with animal handling skills, and do I even need to say anything about Zecora's and Meadowbrook's extensive knowledge of plants? Or the entire Kirin society's close ties to trees? Bottom line, there was an option to give Scoot some kind of parental consistency besides being watched over by the entire town. There was an option to have at least one parent present at all times, one that didn't require either of them to quit. There was something they could have done to be present in their kid's life, but it can only be assumed that they chose not to for whatever reason.
The impressionable kid watching this episode who doesn’t have a constant parental figures and has been neglected their whole life: oh! I guess this is normal! :D
bro scoots parents made me released of how better family/parents i had in my life growing up. poor scoot tho man she deserve better parents like her unites who take care of her
Wow, this was a really nice analysis and it makes me want to read the Season 10 comics now. It makes me wonder why Scoots (at least in The Last Crusade) still feels so proud to talk about her parents after they've consistently neglected her for so long. Why would she boast about parents that rarely visit her and don't really care about her well-being?
I wouldn't be surprised if if let's say MLP did a comic series of season 11, where it centers around all of the MLP cast being older like at the end of season 9, that Scootaloo would hold a resentment towards her parents. A lot of children always see their parents as the best thing in the world even though the parents could be the worst possible people ever. So as a kid you always want to say that "my parents did this amazing thing" or "my parents are the best at this" while in reality they're not. And when those children grow up they usually see how their parents are not as perfect as they seemed. So yea I can totally see that when she grows older she would have a resentment towards her parents.
I kinda connect to Scoots, while obviously my parents aren't exactly like Scoots' parents. They focused purely on their jobs. I get it, even if they give the constant excuse of making my future "better." I just wished they'd actually spent the time to really get to _KNOW_ me. They don't know my likes or dislikes, my favourite colours, mental issues. Simple stuff ya know?
There's an old saying. "Every child deserves a parent, but not every parent deserves a child" This actually reminds me a lot about my relationships. I'm not a father, but an uncle of 3 nieces. My sister was mainly too busy to watch her daughters because she's a nurse, so whenever they had the chance, they'd stay with me and my parents for a few hours and we'd be the ones they talk about. They were happy, excited, to spend time with us.
So you're telling me that I watched every season and episode (that are available to me over Netflix) and never knew that Scootaloo has shitty parents, but amazing lesbian aunts?! How did I miss that? I love her Aunts! It just goes to show that same gendered couples can be better parents than cross gendered ones sometimes and I love that message
Also in the Equestria Girls series, there is also a "gay" couple(at least I hope so). It's (I forgot one of their name. It's the one with a brown bowl hair cut-) and Curly Winds.
I like how the show represents different kinds of families though, showing that not all families are perfect- or even good for that matter, and sometimes the best family you could have isn't the one you were born with.
I can see why they’re frowned upon greatly, but in a way they give me about the same vibe as the parents from Hey Arnold. They were explorers who did dangerous things against equally dangerous people. My guess would be that maybe Scoots parents are in a way in the same boat.
If I wrote this episode I would have Scootaloo living with Rainbow Dashes parents and make sure to have a scene of Dashes family beating up the dead beats.
I feel like the episode should’ve focused around Scoots being upset at her parents for leaving her for who knows how much of her life and her parents trying to make up for it That certainly would’ve impacted me as someone who had their father leave them at a young age And in general would’ve made this episode far more tolerable and emotional
OBJECTION!!!! We've already SEEN that, though cutie Mark's CAN be loosely interpreted, in some instances, in order to allow for slight leeway, in, a ponies " destiny " , they ARE an objectively important force, in, determining a ponies life path. As we saw with the hearts desire and cutiepox, a pony CAN be made, to act out a cutie mark. As we saw with twilights accidental cutie mark swapping spell, a swapped cutie mark CAN influence ponies, to act accordingly. As we saw with starlight glimmer and the feuding princesses, a cutie mark swap CAN force others, into being better at specific tasks, of, having to follow a different schedule. There is no reason, in context, that, scootaloo's " birth parents" , within the context of this world, can be claimed for prioritizing there work, in forms nessessairy, over spending time with scootaloo, as, trying to deny there lifes work, would likely leave them depressed, miserable rejects, unable to form as close a bond with there daughter, as, most of the other ponies in ponyville, already have anyway. : (
i would argue 3 different ponies having nearly identical cutie marks leaves very little room for ambiguity. scootaloo did everything in her power to show how upset she was and they still didn't bat an eye.
While I absolutely agree, leaving a young child with little to no care is still harmful, and they could have done a lot more to help their situation, such as simply giving Scootaloo to her aunts, who seem much more happy to adopt Scootaloo as their own, rather than stringing together lies and false hope, which can lead their daughter to be mentally scarred and could result in mental problems. It has even been shown in the show that it already has, such as her clinginess to Rainbow being her older sister, and shock of how supportive Rainbow's parents are. It was irresponsible for them to say they will keep their daughter when unfit to care for her, and then when finally deciding to take care of her, taking her to a hostile environment and possibly still being away from her, and leaving her with more strangers to care for her.
@@lord__pasta didn't they say they were going to shangra la, aka, where the kirin were? While the surrounding area is pretty wild, the village its self seems nice and peaceful. They could have literally been looking for such a place, where scootaloo would be safe, but, they could still do there research, via show logic, and, have just been ignorant to how much had changed, never staying in one place long enough, to understand the old adage " every day is an adventure". I mean.... it's not like several of the events they mentioned, for new dangers, had " nothing" to do with ponyville. Taking scoots somewhere far from the potential conflict, even with wild animals, does seem like one of those " parent moves" , where, they understand the risk of physical danger, but, not emotional balance . After all, we're talking about a world that NEEDS a " school of friendship" , and, still has people like chancellor neigh say. The fact that there isnt really a culture for handling emotions and conflict in equestria, easily explains these parents actions. It's just still nice, to see they actually listen to others, when the situation is " down to the wire". However, the fact that they reversed the decision, without asking anyone to " keep her safe" , at the end , DOES, kinda.... well, it undercuts such initial reasoning. : /
I found a amazing piece of art and story where Scootaloo's parents (or one of them anyway) was a member of the Royal Guard thus putting them away for long periods of time, but the reunion would have been 😢🤧so beautiful. Much better than the G'day we be kool adventurah's who probably haven't so much as talked to our daughtah in several yeah's cuz our jobs ah so amazin' and dangerous.
"Scootaloo's parents are terrible" I've been actually thinking about that recently cus my brother was asking me stuff about MLP while making fun of me. I'm glad someone finally talked about it.
If anything, this video serves as a highlight to how the show could have maintained one of the most popular fan theories and memes, only to resolve it in a way that would have been satisfying enough with her aunts being her legal guardians. All of this would have been fine, in the end, had they chosen to make Scootaloo’s parents the ponies detailed in this video.
One of my favorite scenes in Friendship is Magic is Scootaloo's parents getting called out about being neglectful absentee parents. The other favorite scene is Rainbow Dash calling her parents out for being WAY too supportive. EDIT: Man, I forgot just how douchebaggy Scoot's parents were in this episode. I want to give Scootaloo a hug. Again. I've wanted to give that poor abandoned kid a hug since season 1 and 2, because parental abandonment is hell. >.> Ask me how I know. And I'd give Rainbow Dash a hug too, because blindly over supportive parents are hell too, ask me how I know!
Scootaloo has her own character development story and the main message is that work is more important than family and friends. They really don't rake them across the coals like they should have.
As someone who grew up with disabilitys I feel like we are really put out there and recognized with Scootalo and derby with there life challenges I had a back brace for most of my life and had surgery on my eyes as a 4 year old. So I can really relate to Scott
I haven’t read a lot of the comics (mostly bc I don’t know where to find em) but to their credit at least they do portray her parents as much worse than that episode did
They finally decided to come back to their daughter and the first thing they do is tell her that she has to move leaving everything and everyone she loves to go to a strange and dangerous place where there are close to no people and when she wants to stay and shows a lot of emotional distress they just ignore her :/
We saw this very late in the series, it’s possible that in the past her aunts would stay all week, every week, bringing scoots with them when ever they went back to their own home. Scoots definitely missing a lot in her life, but I think it is more likely that someone was always watching her even if it wasn’t her aunts. In later seasons instead be of being left to care for her self, she’s being allowed to care for herself, as she is old enough to do so
They clearly were not ready to have a child, which means that Scootaloo was likely given birth to by mistake. That makes me sad.
Than at least give her up for adoption
Yeah this is just sad, why WOULD they have a child, they could just send her to adoption so she had a better family compared to them
@@Flowesomecat same reasons people do it in real life? societal pressures, family pressures, religious pressures ect. alot of people put too much weight on the idea that to be happy a child must remain with the birth parents particularly the mother. So much so it takes a literal track record of abuse/neglect for a child to be taken away, society as a whole needs to have proper sex education and realize not every single damn woman or couple is ready/wanting to have kids so they shouldn't be judged for taking options B or C.
She probably had the disability because her parents kept adventuring even while she was still unborn.
I mean it would make sense, her parents are completely healthy. So it’s a reasonable assumption and adds up to the fact that her parents didn’t really care about her that much.

The thing I hate about Scoots parents the most is who they're based on. Jane Goodall and Steve Erwin. Those two were actually very loving and responsible people. And worse is that they didn't even listen to her or talk to her, if you think her parents are "great" then why would they leave they`re *DISABLED* child, FOR A *JOB* , they didn't even give time for scootaloo!
And then there's the total lack of evidence that anyone in Scootaloo's biological family ever bothered to talk to a doctor about her wings.
Maybe her wing thing could have been prevented
@@tmntgirl4life Unlikely - Pound Cake's family tree is almost all earth ponies, and he can fly normally.
Scootaloo has two of the worst parents:
- According to the episode they have been writing to their daughter which according to Parental Glidence they have not given her any encouragement and according to Flight To The Finish are likely the reason for her insecurities.

Seriously, the two of them practically dump Sweetie Belle on her sister without discussing it with anyone so they can go off and vacation without having to worry about a foal.
More like, “Hold my cider”
@@TheNotverysocial the show was mostly set in ponyville, and most pegasus families are in cloudsdale. Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy moved away from their families to ponyville, so it’s not a very fair comparison.
Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo should bond over having shitty neglectful parents
@@TheNotverysocial yeah I had a small theory for a while that Pegasi don’t live with the family structures we are used to and that normally the foals are raised by all the ponies in the town they live in and that the most important family ties are siblings and maybe sometimes cousins and other close relatives instead parents and children and also that earth ponies have closer families and care more about it and unicorns are kinda in the middle
And that is why, fellow MLP fans, we are the rightful FOREVER parents of Scootaloo.
Nah fam, I could be a bro to Scoots, but am in no way responsible or prepared enough to parent Scoots....

Sure Fluttershy's parents aren't mean or anything but are in a way neglectful because they probably never disciplined zephyr breeze.
Twilight's parents are good enough if you compare them to the other parents, they helped twilight into the school of magic but never really encouraged her to make any friends or socialize.

it seems typical of that equestrian world.
"Scootaloo's parents are horrible. The end."

I feel like if scoot being raised by two mares was considered more socially acceptable it would have been shown before the final season.
Definitely. They only show up in the last season because it's not like the show can get cancelled because of their inclusion at that point.
*Change my mind-*
They left a little filly all alone in Ponyville
And they lived out of town but they didn’t try to do anything other than saying “come and visit us” basically
But they are 100x better than the parents tho :)
What if Celestia herself gave Snap Shutter and Mane All-Good their professions?
If that's the case, one can't just up and refuse a royal order to do what they do
Ah talk to celestia
I bet Luna would get after Celestia for that then.
I would drop kick celestia if that was the case, I hate her enough as it is, plus Luna would probably give her nightmares for a LONG time lmao
Her parents are so unfair! I mean they show up out of nowhere to tell her that she’s moving away from everyone she has grown to love because they weren’t there for her! I think her antis are better parents(and a better couple) than THEM

Dude, too dark.
Yay
@Mangogurl OwO I mean they did practically say that AJs parents are dead, so they could've just done the same here where they suggested that Scoots parents were gone
Normally I say that reason why parents work a lot is for their family. And we shouldn’t blame them if they not always there. But here.... It’s just child neglect. They don’t really care about Scootaloo. They only care about their work. It’s not what I call parents.
And they could get a stable job near Ponyville for her, when you have a child you must accept to make sacrifices or don't have kids
But...if they didn't care about her why would they ask her to come with them? Idk I feel like they do care about her but aren't fit to be parents.
Scoots parents remind me of Mom and Dad Turner from Fairly Oddparents.
At least Timmy's parents are portrayed as neglectful and are the literal reason why he has fairies, the worst is that Scoot's parents are meant to appear good
I love how this comment implies that "Mom" and "Dad" are their legal names.
@@MidnightMuffin Those are at least nicknames they have since childhood. And we never learned their actual names.

Her aunts are also the worst in the show. Heck, unlike her parents, they WILLINGLY abandoned her.
So her aunts are kind to her and are caring yet leave her to the watch of others? Sure she's better off in the care of her aunts but the fact still remains she's home alone a lot sooooooooooo..... It's still neglect.
Yea
Until they officially took her in and had her move in with them permanently. And to be fair, they did still have jobs (I think, Idk about Lofty since she seems kinda old). Maybe that’s why they couldn’t take her in before. Maybe her parents still visited her every once in a while, so taking full custody of her wasn’t on the aunts’ minds. Idk. And it’s hard to figure everything out from just one episode.
EXACTLY! Finally, I’m not the only one who thinks this!
Why is it that other people keep missing that?
Honestly out of this whole series I feel like rainbow dash has been the best role model for scootaloo I mean come on! Her real perents are never there for her and the guardians she does have leave her unsupervised sometimes I mean sure there waaaayyy better than her real perents but still! so tell me this WHY is rainbow dash not her guardian!?
FINALLY someone said it. I thought Dashie’s parents were bad but then I saw Scoots parents and realized they are way worse. Imagine leaving your handicapped daughter for years, and then coming back years later only to have her move away from the life she’s known with two strangers basically.
Wait, you considered Rainbow's parents bad too?
I thought they were a little to exaggerated, but good parents nonetheless

It doesn't really fit here, but Scootaloos aunts remind me of my own aunts! They even look the same!
I’ve always thought random ponies caring for her was an exception rather then a rule.
I feel that the parents may have gotten pregnant on accident and that’s why they are so distant
Orange sherbet is probably a dominant trait. She also has her father’s hair color.
the colors make sense. almost no pony is an exact color copy of their parents, rather a mix...
Any thoughts on the comic issue showing Scootaloo's parents again?
Not gonna lie, Rainbow Dash would be a great mom to Scootaloo
I know MLP FiM has come and gone now, but I still can't get over how fucked up it is that the show made it seem like anything these awful parents are doing is okay/normal. Like what kind of message were they trying to send to kids and families?!
Me an Ace Attorney fan: I cannot unsee the fact that someone can make beautiful content
the fact that they basically abandoned her means that they didnt want her. when scoots was born she was a mistake cuz she was born when the parents were having "fun", and well unlike most parents they didnt want to give that up, so they just use money to take care of her. i bet thats why she even lives in ponyvile, cuz the town is so small that everyone knows everyone unlike in the cites where criminals tend to live (and im not counting the world ending ones) ppl will know if this kid gets snatched or hurt by someone.
Espero que você esteja bem

I get it, even if they give the constant excuse of making my future "better."
I just wished they'd actually spent the time to really get to _KNOW_ me. They don't know my likes or dislikes, my favourite colours, mental issues. Simple stuff ya know?

This actually reminds me a lot about my relationships. I'm not a father, but an uncle of 3 nieces. My sister was mainly too busy to watch her daughters because she's a nurse, so whenever they had the chance, they'd stay with me and my parents for a few hours and we'd be the ones they talk about. No no... this video needed to exist, because bad parenting NEEDS called out.
I can see why they’re frowned upon greatly, but in a way they give me about the same vibe as the parents from Hey Arnold. They were explorers who did dangerous things against equally dangerous people. My guess would be that maybe Scoots parents are in a way in the same boat.
Being a cartoon pony makes having bad parents look easy
Scootaloo would have looked like the perfect combination of her parents if her dad had the same hair color
If I wrote this episode I would have Scootaloo living with Rainbow Dashes parents and make sure to have a scene of Dashes family beating up the dead beats.
dude i never realised how messed up scootalo's parents when i was a kid
I feel like the episode should’ve focused around Scoots being upset at her parents for leaving her for who knows how much of her life and her parents trying to make up for it
That certainly would’ve impacted me as someone who had their father leave them at a young age
And in general would’ve made this episode far more tolerable and emotional
Ngl you make a strong argument
i would argue 3 different ponies having nearly identical cutie marks leaves very little room for ambiguity. scootaloo did everything in her power to show how upset she was and they still didn't bat an eye.
This is a pretty good argument actually😯
