Ngl, at the start of mlp, I think fluttershy had some SERIOUS social anxiety, like, she could barely get her name out in front of twilight and looking after and talking to animals is probably her coping mechanism.
And she dealt with serious bullying as a child, as shown in the backstory of how she discovered her cutie mark, which would explain why she developed a social disorder
Applejack is a serious workaholic. When there's a job to be done, she can't stop till it's finished. She also has a really hard time letting others help her. I agree with the others, though.
@@NoNo-nj5un Well, you're right about that. But when you're so stubborn you end up being so fatigued you can't see, hear or think straight- that's when it's a disorder.
@@NoNo-nj5un yeah but being a workaholic is when you're so obsessed with work that it begins to become a problem. like imagine working so much you literally push everyone you care about away bc all you do is work. or working so much your health degrades.
Esha the LoneWolk That still technically isn’t a disorder because she is still feeding herself, she accidentally banged up her hearing, and lack of sleep is the cause of her eye sight(I’ve had enough of that in middle school). She has a extremely important job tot do that she has both responsibility and stubbornness to do. She has to get all them apples by the season but she also takes things like help as a challenge. That, believe it or not, is stubbornness.
Let's be honest applejack is probably the most sane out of the mane six, even if she can be a bit stubborn sometimes. Edit: goodness I never thought I’d get this many likes in my life, thanks everyone.
Actually that makes sense bc in the episode when RD didn't want Tank to hibernate everyone except Twilight and Applejack were crying and Twilight asks why Pinkie was on her about not crying instead of Applejack and Pinkie and Applejack both say that Applejack cries on the INSIDE so she already has a tendency to not let her emotions show on the outside
Pinkie Pie actually really fits the description of someone with BPD. And as someone with BPD ( borderline personality disorder ) I can say that I see myself a lot in Pinkie Pie. - Fear of abandonment - Unstable yet intense relationships - Unclear or unstable self-image - Impulsive, self-destructive behaviors - Extreme emotional swings - Psychotic experiences under stress Pinkie definitely shows a few of these symptoms. Bipolar mood swings usually happen over a period of months when people with BPD can feel suicidal one hour, but super energized the next. Bipolar just doesn't really fit Pinkie. BPD would also explain her psychotic episode during Party Of One. The stress of everyone abandoning her caused that reaction and the instability of her emotions helped her recover so easily.
Anjanka Jeff-Apologist no wonder pinkie pie was my favorite I related to her a lot with I was a kid and rainbow dash (no big suprise I turned out this way😗)
I had an ex gf who seemingly suffered from BPD. She literally met all the criteria. All that chick did was complain about past friends that left her and always reminded me of how much she missed them. She utterly despised being overweight and cuts herself. She’d also get these intense mood swings at the drop of a hat. She could basically bawl her eyes out on command! This was ultimately the reason why I broke up with her. I couldn’t tolerate her ups and downs any longer, and this is coming from a person diagnosed with deep depression. Sounds like she’s got BPD, right? It turns out my ex faked the mood swings for attention and sympathy. She admitted about having munchausen syndrome. What makes it more confusing is the fact she wasn’t even trying to emulate BPD at all, her intention was to pretend being bipolar. She went to the doctor and got diagnosed with depression and anxiety, out of all things. Which is complete bullshit because my ex is an outgoing extrovert and loves socializing. Either that doctor is horrible at their job or my ex didn’t tell them she had munchausen syndrome...
AJ is still grieving over her parents' death, so she's does so much farm work, because she wants to make her dead parents proud. Dashie is arrogant because she's insecure and she stood up for Fluttershy because Dashie had bully problems, too. Calling her Rainbow Crash makes her feel like a doormat, so she's no different from Fluttershy. Pinkie is a stepford smiler. She pretends to be happy when in reality, Pinkie's still depressed. Growing up on a rock farm with a equally depressed family and didn't had much of a childhood. Twilight always have ocd due to fearing failure and poor social skills. She rather be alone but still hang with a few friends once in a while. Books make Twilight happy; meaning less socializing, more learning. Fluttershy led a sheltered life with parents who are also shy. So, she spends most of her life being scared of almost everything and everyone. Fluttershy prefers animals than other ponies. Some people are not good with others in real life. Rarity is somewhat like Twilight. She's always so focused on her work and appearance, it can lead to too much stress and hardly spends time with her sister, Sweetie Belle.
Studionsey ! I wouldn't even mind a Season 8 Episode where Pinkie Pie reveals to her friends that she's truly happy but is only pretending to be happy she's like Beast Boy from Teen Titans both of them are Stepford Smilers.
Studionsey ! Uh let me fix that I meant an episode where Pinkie reveals to her friends That she's not truly happy but she's only pretending to be happy because she may be happy on the outside but on the inside she's depressed and lying to herself and trying to hide her true self. And also we really deserve an episode like that in Season 8. Hey Pinkie Pie you can't keep living a lie reveal your true inner self to your friends for once because you can't keep pretending to be happy all the time. That would be the greatest lesson for Pinkie Pie to learn in Season 8.
Studionsey ! Also I wish the writers would just go ahead and finally reveal how Applejack Apple Bloom and Big Mac's parents really died come on you writers stop being cowards and just do it reveal to us how Bright Mac and Pear Butter truly died it's not that hard you can't keep trying to keep it secret forever Bright Mac and Pear Butter's deaths need to be revealed right now because we're all sick of vague answers.
Like he says, there isn't that much evidence of it. Some episodes, you can see symptoms, but there's a lot of episodes that mainly show her narcissist personality disorder. ADHD can't just be turned off, so the episodes where you don't see it are a way to show she doesn't have it. Also, with ADHD comes a whole slew of other things, like insomnia, picky eating, sensitivity to sounds smells and tastes, anxiety, and even depression. I guess when pinkie pie keeps bringing her pies in that one episode and she secretly throws them away that it shows a spark of ADHD, but again, it's just one episode. I will say, if you connect flying to driving, there is absolutely no way she has ADHD, driving with ADHD is a car wreck waiting to happen. It's extremely difficult to pay attention to yourself and others and the car when your brain constantly switches topics at the drop of a hat. Rainbow dash could not fly and pay attention to her surroundings that well with ADHD.
Same, I watched this show a lot back when I was 12, I'm in my senior year of high school now and decided to rewatch the show and Jesus Christ Back then I just thought it was funny for the characters acting this way
WAIT!! Wouldn't this make princess luna and celestia therapists *Edit* Me- makes mindless coment 3 years ago Sudenly tons of replies Huh guess it wasnt so mindless XD
Good observation, yes it does! Luna is a therapist in pony's dreams and helps them overcome their nightmares and subconscious. I guess Celestia is more mentor than therapist, but she has helped the Mane 6.
Luna teaches them the reality of their situation and tries to help them that way. Celestia helps by showing them that their is always light and helps them see the good in life despite their situation!! :)
What if their adventures are really just inside their minds. Like everything they do is overcoming something. This could tie in with the idea that Luna and celestia are therapists, in their “hallucination” they see them as all good. Therefore deeming them princesses in their imaginary world. Idk

Freeshavaqia 。 I agree with you, my dad has mentioned multiple times that he thinks I have OCD when I say something bothers me (like a necklace clasp not being behind the neck, strings of a shirt not being even, stuff like that) and I fix it. I do not think I have OCD because I know it stems further than having things perfect, I’ve never been tested so I don’t even know if I’m right or wrong.
PhyinnLeigh Yeah straightening strings and necklaces is NOT OCD. I also do that but I don’t have ocd. My sister on the other hand, has dehabilitizing OCD about things being organized. She hates my room because it’s always messy.
I don't know if I have OCD. I haven't been tested or anything and my parents just think i'm being silly. everyday my brain just forces me to do so many things and if I don't, I tell myself something bad will happen, so i end up doing it anyway. almost everything I touch has to be touched with the same amount of pressure with the other hand or leg (or whatever) I also have to do almost everything 4 times. At one point I became kind of depressed because its really tiring and takes up so much time. Again I don't know if I have OCD but I know that its horrible
I’m not diagnosed with OCD but I almost 99% sure I have it because little thing frustrated me and I spend hours to get my homework done just to make it perfect. I spend probably 6 extra hours to make sure everything is right because I’m scared I’ll make a mistake or my work won’t be as good as others. I do have have ADHD to so I get easily distracted which is a struggle because of OCD which leads to me not being that social and I even live in a different city then were I go to school so I never see people and that’s probably why I don’t have that many friends too.
Speaking as someone who has social anxiety disorder, Fluttershy DEFINITELY has social anxiety disorder. Honestly, that's why she's my favorite character. I relate to her like crazy. This is probably why I became a brony, actually. Anypony who complains that Fluttershy has to learn the same lesson over and over again clearly does not have social anxiety.
THIS. i also struggle with severe social anxiety and it annoys me so much when people say that fluttershy constantly learns the same lesson. what they do not understand is just how difficult it is and saying stuff like "you have to get over it at some point" like its just an old fear is really belittling. i always wondered why i was so attached to fluttershy so hearing whats said in this video made it all clear
Good point. I would've DEFINITELY thought that Fluttershy's lessons were repetitive, but now that you bring up the fact that getting over something like this would take a LOOOOOT more than just an episode's adventure, it makes sense why she'd have to continuously get over it in different situations.
I don't think that's really a mental disorder though, or at least, can't be classified in the DSM 5. Though I could be wrong, that just sounds like a trait of her character.
I also have OCD, not sure why, but my mom told me that my doctor dignosed me with it, I think it might be because during the day I usually open the door to the fridge and freezer a lot, just looking at the stuff in them
Alex Dawson, my sister have A.D.D (without hyperactivity), but without ADHD, it might come from your anxiety coming from your ADHD. :) Just saying, my sister has anxiety too and have OCD, because of that... But sometimes, OCD can be a little bit helpful. :)
I came up with this myself, but Applejack could be autistic. She has a specific interest in a certain topic and will only focus on that subject at times. She is brutally honest and will tell the truth even in dire situations where a lie is needed She is extremely stubborn and will push her way through to get her way done at times. And that's what I got. Every person with autism is different, so let me know what you think!
Adriana Eason well, that's why I specified which traits she had. lLike I mentioned, every autistic person is different. This is what autism is like for Applejack.
I'm guessing apple Jack just keeps her emotions on the inside, probably from sad and depressed from her parents death, moved to work as hard as she can to make her parents proud, and the fact that she "crys on the inside" shows she doesn't like showing her emotions, either because she think she'll let her parents down, look weak, or be annoying other ponies with her emotions.
When I first started watching MLP:FiM, I used to think Twilight Sparkle had asperger syndrome, but the more I watched and got to know the characters, I've come to the conclusion that I think Rainbow Dash actually has it. I have asperger and as a female aspie, there are so many things about Dash that I recognise. AS manifests quite differently in women than in men, you know. I would argue that Rainbow is the most socially awkward out of all the Mane Six. She doesn't know when to choose politeness over sincerity, when it's okay to be very confident or when she should be more humble, and she doesn't always understand non-verbal interaction. There are so many instances where other ponies "scold" her by going "Rainbow Dash!" and giving her unapproving looks or throwing something to stop her from saying something they perceive as rude but she considers honest. She obsesses over quite narrow fields of interest, particularly the Wonderbolts and Daring Do, and can talk about both forever. But concentrating on something other than her interests has proven difficult for her. I feel like being airborne is her way of stimming. While many people with AS might flap their hands, she flaps her wings. More often than not, Rainbow will be flying when the others are standing, even when other pegasus ponies are stood on the ground. We know from the show that she can concentrate on what's going on when she's flying and it might also serve as a way to remove herself a little from the situation and get a better overview, like when someone with AS prefers to stand off to the side in a social situation. She has issues with unexpected change, shown very obviously when she realises Tank has to hibernate and her plans for winter are cancelled, or when the next Daring Do book was delayed. Both times she had somewhat of a meltdown. She doesn't know how to express her emotions very well and keeps them bottled up a lot. But when she does let them out, they're intense and, again, might even be full meltdowns. Really, there is so much more and so many more symptoms that she exhibits. Some women with AS show a dislike for what's fashionable and feminine, that's Dash to a T. People with AS are known to be very loyal (hello element of Harmony). Preferring adventurous social interaction (sports, treasure hunts etc.) rather than more "female", talk-focused socialising. Even her frequent napping could be a symptom as constantly deciphering while socialising is truly exhausting (I nap a lot). If you google "asperger syndrome in girls", you'll find a lot of interesting stuff that describes Rainbow Dash very accurately and you'll see why I think she shares my disorder. Maybe that's why she's my favourite. :) Essay over!
mia Thank you for sharing how ASD affects your life. The ponies sure are relatable. That is one of the great things about the characters of the show. Because of this we often project aspects of ourselves on others. I think the pony with the closest resemblance to ASD is Maud Pie. This might be a good topic of a future video
I'm also a female aspie and I see more of myself in Twilight than in Dash. Such as her OCD tendencies, love of lists and routines, and development of special interests such as books, magic, princess Celestia, and her friends.
@@rosediamond4132I think Twilight is both OCPD and paranoia tho cause not only she had OCD like behaviour as part of her personality but she often overly paranoid when it comes one the things that involved Celestia which in return snaps her sanity
Could you edit this comment to change the word normal? That word intends that people with these disorders are not normal. I realize this was 2 years ago but still
@@artemis5312 but why? We (you, me, or anyone else) can't protect everyone from comments ln internet (or irl), so why is it so important for someone to change their comment in youtube? And how saying "normal" about someone is so wrong? Not being "normal" is not a bad thing. I don't think there is anyone who is completly normal, but if we didn't know what should "normal" person be like.... how could we know if someone has problem? With knowlege about what should be "normal" we can try to help others who are suffering something that "normal" people don't suffer. 🤷♀️ Or that's atleast how I see it.
Pinkie pie: depression, bipolar, or some sort of manic thing Applejack: idk she seems stubborn but sane to me Rainbow dash: adhd or narcissism-I agree Rarity: histrionic-I also agree Fluttershy: anxiety probably Twilight: OCD
Cotton_Cat 23-Revival I think Applejack might have PTSD from her parents passing away and is a Workaholic to keep herself distracted in order to not talk about her parents passing. Which explains why she’s stubborn too.
Seraphy Wang A lot of people with trauma symptoms or ptsd/cptsd tend to have “workaholic” tendencies because they can’t stand silence or inactivity or can’t function without a busy schedule. I’m the same way. I bury myself in chores, writing, school, and work to avoid being alone with my thoughts or connecting to people.
Applejack might have depression. She had the loss of her 2 parents. And allow me address: “The biggest smiles have the darkest secrets” “The prettiest eyes have shed the most tears” “The kindest hearts have felt the most pain.” So it’s a possibility
AJ has abandonment issues; Dashie is hiding her true self and emotions; Pinkie is a child in a grown up's body; Twilight isn't happy being an alicorn princess and secretly wants her old unicorn life back; Fluttershy knows how the cowardly lion feel; Rarity's job is like a drug addiction that she can't overcome. Who knows? They may be like that behind the scenes.
Gray The Floof yeah, she literally put her sleep on hold in that one episode, with her being really tired and dizzy in the morning, even having some double vision
@Gabriel 2020 i think they're talking about "applebuck season", where she literally stopped sleeping. but imo, i don't think she has self-defeating pd. in that episode she didn't let herself rest for a second but because she didn't want to accept help because she believed that she could do all the work alone. i would say that more than anything she has serious problems with stubbornness
I don’t think RD is a narcissist. True NPD sufferers are extremely manipulative and often see people as tools. I’ve lived with one of these people my whole life. RD is not manipulative and she actually cares about her friends.
ADHD has whole cloud of nearby disorders and NPD is somewhere within it. Also, it may be some kind of escaping her own adhd reality, when she acts like that. She needs external stimuli and admiration to get things done.. And i'm sure that if she finds time and calmness for her friends, she can be quite empathetic towards them.
About AppleJack--You say that stubbornness is not a mental disorder but it can be a side effect of guilt. When her parents "disappeared", she essentially abandoned the family to go to Manehatten. When she returned, she threw herself into farm work with a wild intensity to compensate for what she did. Her insistence on bucking all the apple trees herself seems to me to be a form of maintaining a false self-image. AppleJack is a tough, independent farm pony. Showing weakness is NOT allowed. This could also be a factor in her constant athletic competitions with Rainbow Dash.
john krappweis Oh wow, I was going to comment something like this but you basically summed it all up. Everyone sees Applejack as the most normal but she has plenty of things wrong with her as well she just usually doesn't show them in public
Don't forget the episode in season 4 when they left her sister alone at home and she just couldn't trust her enough to be independent, she's overprotective and i think she also has some trusting issues
All are not disorders. And that's not bad, we can all be glad that someone lacking a disorder is so careing and trying so hard to understand what her friends' are going through [if they actually have those disorders] it is a good way to show that you don't need something wrong with you to be a good person or understanding. You just gotta put in the effort.
+Omni Viewer Yup, I was thinking the same thing while making this video. Each character has at least one Learning Disorder or Personality Disorder. Dyslexia seems to be the most prevalent in that group.
The characters of Winnie the Pooh are the stuffed toys of a young boy. Thus, their personalities are simple and stereotypical. Owl, for instance, is supposed to be wise, but his knowledge comes from a child and his personality is based on the stereotypical old aristocratic who'd been (or pretends to have been) a gentleman adventurer in his youth.
I've seen pinkie in quite a few episodes have hallucinations and/or delusions, so I think it's quite possible that she has bipolar schizoaffective disorder! I have it too, it's an extremely rare condition that consists of mood disorder symptoms and symptoms of schizophrenia. Most people (im pretty sure) have mania so, I think it makes sense
In my opinion, you got this correct. Here's my thoughts. Applejack does indeed have a mental disorder: Attachment Separation Disorder. Now that, I can relate to, having had the same thing, which is usually caused by traumatic separation from family members or those considered close to you - AJs parents dying. As for Pinkie, you are entirely correct, albeit forgetting to mention that the 'happy Pinkie' is actually a mask put on by her, so as to hide her depression, a common tactic for those with depression. You know, when you ask them if they feel okay, some will just try to end the conversation with 'I'm fine'? Twilight is definitely OCD, no complaints there, and also has Anxiety Disorder, at least in my opinion. Funnily enough, so does Fluttershy. I have no arguments for Fluttershy at all. You got Rarity perfectly, though I forget if you mentioned that being so manipulative, she could very well be a sociopath. RD is the purest form of ADHD I have ever seen. For her, always move, move, move. What do y'all think?
I think Twilights is deeper than anxiety stemmed OCD, she has a lot of traits of high functioning autism. I have it as well and I notice a lot of similar traits
Hyperactivity, despite being apart of the name, is actually a rather small part of ADHD. Anyone got any examples of where Rainbow Dash couldn't see reason once upset? How bad are her tantrums, and how frequent? Do her parents exhibit any of this? Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, I just happen to have ADHD, have been taught a lot about it, and know multiple people with it.
I think Fluttershy might have mild PTSD as being bullied as a child made her afraid to do things as an adult, and even gets flashbacks to being teased when she was young.
Those make sense! But i feel like Pinkie pie has bpd because there is always a trigger and bipolar depressive episodes come without one(I AM NOT SURE) I also headcanon Rainbowdash and Twilight as autistic
I can agree with a lot of this, especially Twi's disorder- I have severe OCD myself. I can't speak for anyone else, but you explained OCD quite well, so thank you for not perpetuating the age-old stereotype of 'hand washing and germophobia'! And as for Applejack's disorder, maybe depression? It's the only thing I can see for her- perhaps she uses work as a distraction? Anyways, +1 sub ^-^
+Gracedia Clear-Skies Thanks of subscribing! I have a close friend with OCD and Panic Attacks so I know second hand how it affects people. You may also relate to 2 of my other videos, the PMV- Worn and my archaic 2nd video of my channel explaining Twilight's Anxiety in 'It's About Time.'
horror movies are terrible in regards to how they handle mental conditions. i wish the genre would just fuck off and stick to monsters instead of stigmatizing real disorders that people struggle with every day
Apple Jack is she is too overprotective of her sister and she legit like wrapped everything in the house with plastic and checked on her to see if she needed anything durning the night she just is scared alot that her sister will get hurt alot but she trust her now but not sure if the overprotectiveness is gone now?
The concept of giving a character a specific, researched mental disorder to make them more real is a very interesting approach to me. And something I had not really considered. Thanks a lot for this great video.
+Carmyn D It is easy to label as an annoying habit, but I think she has the most serious condition, yet luckily it seems to have improved over the seasons.
I used to ask myself as a young child; which character is most like me? Which one has the same emotional feelings as me? Which one do I relate to the most? But now I realize… It’s all of them
"No matter how unrealistic that anxiety appears, it is real to them." omg. thank you. it's like nobody ever understood that in my life. I have been diagnosed with OCD, and anxiety. I have had it all my life and when I was little Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie were my favorite characters. But it makes me feel nice that someone said that it is real to the person with the anxiety. I have been in so many situations, and have had so many attacks, and people just act like it's fine. I know it isn't real to them but it's real to me and if it's getting to the point where I am hallucinating and then passing out because of the hallucinations, I need to be calmed down, don't just tell me it's not real and walk the other way.
Pinkie is not Bipolar. Her up's and down's are not random and are not constantly recurring. There is always a good reason for her to become sad. She has Mania.
more like hypomania, which is a rather mild form of mania which doesn't cause psychosis except under certain conditions. She seems hypomanic but when depression hits her even when there is an external cause, it hits hard. Possibly bipolar where she is usually hypomanic, but when under certain stress, she is at risk of triggering a depressive episode. not everyone with bipolar has randomly changing moods, they sometimes change when situations change. such cases do tend to be mild.
You also forgot that Fluttershy is totally insane. That episode at the gala with her total obsession with getting the animals to love her was about the most insane thing I have ever seen.
Sorry to hear that. This video was never made for viewers to self-diagnose because only a professional can make an accurate diagnosis. Even if are diagnosed, your struggles don't define who you are, they are just hurtles that can be managed while living a fulfilling life. Hang in there.
Well this just showed up in my recommended... Weird but I know enough to spot a thing or two others seem less sure of. Applejack does have a disorder but I am seeing multiple ideas and a few who come close but I think I can do one better. PTSD is a good guess and I would say you are not far off but we can be a bit more specific. The Atlas complex, a disorder commonly developed in childhood when a sudden burden of responsibility is put on them. Common traits include taking on parental roles and are frequently burdened with a fear of failure in the eyes of others, sound familiar? AppleJack takes a big burden of the Farm onto herself even when she has help from family or friends, her fear of failure time and time again has led her to push herself to her breaking point on more then one occasion. good examples of that fear of failure were her efforts to prove she could harvest the farms apples by herself and refusing to admit she couldn't do it alone, the time she abandoned her ideals after she failed to get the blue ribbons at the rodeo(more on that in a moment) and her rivalry with rainbow dash during fall weather friends. Apple Jack holds certain things close to heart, things she values greatly, integrity, honesty, hard work and family. In the episode The Last Round up she was burdened with the task of getting prize money to fix city hall. She did take this burden on her self but when she failed she abandoned 3 of her most important ideals simply to avoid returning a failure, she left her family behind, her responsibilities, and even lied/withheld the truth to avoid being seen failing. The burden of letting the whole of ponyville down was enough to have her abandon parts of her identity. I'm no expert here but I think this fits well, the burdens she was left with after the loss of her parents did a number on her. While she does not show it outwardly much, that is just her trying to prove herself capable of handling the responsibility and upholding the ideals she believes others hold her to. She wants to be the pony everyone looks up to and turns to in times of need. Such a burden to carry the world on ones shoulders.
The mane-six appear to be modeled after actual (healthy) personality types who have specific normal weaknesses, and then placed into situations which play on those weaknesses. It's pretty clever. We have Twilight the INTP, Applejack the ESTJ, Rainbow Dash the ESTP, Rarity the ENFJ, Fluttershy the ISFP, and Pinkie the ENFP. Also, don't forget to repost this on fimfiction. :P
I have always believed that Rainbow Dash has Autism because I watched a video presented to by someone who has that condition who told us the symptoms of it. Which Rainbow has like uncomfortable being touched by strangers, their moods change from good to bad and visa versa and they always love to do their research. In Pinkie Pie's case in the table scene in " Party of One " that was meant to be based on a 20 minute sketch show that is watched in Germany every New Year's Eve called " Dinner for One " where an old lady celebrates New Year the same as she always did when they were alive. Yes, that's right she outlived her friends on who happen to be sitting on the table with her but she thinks are all alive but actually they're all dead.
From my perspective: 1.Twilight A severe case of OCD, with Anxiety Disorder 2 .Fluttershy has Anxiety and I would I argue she has Avoidant Disorder. Could possibly develop a bipolar disorder. 3. Pinkie Pie, easily ADHD with depression(imagine if she lost all her friends, and if this were the case, she would be so done.)She could potentially have a schizophrenic disorder too(Let me remind you, S1 e25). 4. Rainbow Dash - Obviously, NPD. I don't know who else would have it. Dash is arrogant and thinks she's above else. 5. Applejack - If there's a disorder about a hardcore stubborness, that'd be her disorder. Workaholic to the bone. 6. Rarity - This one is a strange case because Idk how people are failing to see that Rarity has an OCD. At least slightly. Organisation, perfection, attention to detail, like to being clean would all lead to some kind of an OCD. No matter if development or not,she still has it in herself because you can turn a disorder down a bit, but you can't leave it away.. And of course, she's a drama queen, attention-seeker too!
Frost Bolt True...But that's a good thing for her job so. With the year she might have been able to coop withit...Oh...So, if something isn't perfect she start being drama queen?
Just that ADHD and scizofrenia don't really usually together since they are caused by opposite malfunctions in the brains reward system ADHD being to little rewards and Scizofrenia to much. Other than that I find your diagnosis very fitting.👍
Just started watching this cartoon and was very surprised how diverse and relatable these characters are. It's refreshing to have a cartoon that explored the many sides and complications that can happen in friendships
It might not be a personality disorder, but Twilight exhibits some traits that make me believe she may be Autistic. Firstly, she is very passionate about books and studying- this could be viewed as what's known as a special interest. She tends to infodump about books and things she studies, and she is known to be happy sharing books and study tips with others. She also took the time to find the best study method for Rainbow, even if it seemed impossible. She also forms attachment to specific objects and tends to panic when things don't go as expected or planned. She has a history of beating herself up over mistakes she makes and tends to worry about possibilities of various things happening... *a lot.* Twilight is very particular about her space being the way she layed it out, in this case being neat and orderly. Autism also often presents itself along with some other mental conditions or disorders, such as anxiety.
+Bright Idea Bro-Hoof! Thank you, I spent weeks researching various sources on Personality Disorders before I even started this video. Yet this is only the 2nd longest I spent conducting research for a video. The 1st was to answer if Starlight Glimmer is in fact a Communist. Glad you like my humor. For me, there is no such thing as 'no pun intended.'
@@hallelujahbrony3263 great job!!!!! Oh and fluttershy gas no oroblem standing up to the opposite sex. It's other girls that are the problem.. don't blame her. Girls are mean!
I think Twilight fits more with high functioning ASD/Asperger's Syndrome. She develops special interests, attachments to certain things and certain people (well, ponies lol), and can have slight tendencies of hyperactivity and hyperfocus when talking about her special interests (her studies, magic, history, ect). OCD can also be rooted in Autism Spectrum Disorders like Asperger's. I see a lot of my own personal traits in Twilight, especially since I got my ASD diagnosis
I suffer from social anxiety and depression, and Fluttershy, Twilight and Applejack have become extremely comfortable characters for me to relate to. I relate to Fluttershy's struggles in social situations, Twilight's constant worry that something might go wrong, and Applejack's need to please everyone around her at her own expense. Watching the show has actually helped me find different ways of coping with my issues and make me feel a bit better about things. I'm really glad to have a show like this in my life.
@Shauna Dodson I mean it's just personal experience. Like I understand her flamboyant nature masking her fits of depression. Her fear of abandonment. Her psychotic breaks. Not everything is quite the same but I relate a bit. I'm sure ots different for evrry9
Great video! Rainbow DEFINITELY has ADHD, I was diagnosed with it in 4th grade and it isn’t just Testing, Testing 123 that displays the attributes of someone with the disorder. She tends to fall asleep when bored as she stated she did in certain classes when she was becoming a Bolt. In the Season 6 episode “Top Bolt” when Twilight was teaching some newbies she had to blast an air horn to wake her up since she’d fallen asleep during her lesson. This is something that I’ve experienced throughout my entire school career, even in classes I love and was thoroughly interested in like Science classes I’d often fight to keep my eyes open and struggle to keep my attention held, usually passing out eventually and waking up after everyone left class. If you notice she’s almost always flying, even when it’s completely unnecessary and that could easily be viewed as an expression of the restlessness that comes with ADHD similar to the knee bouncing, rocking of stationary chairs and sort of leg wagging that myself and others do while sitting. This restlessness is also displayed in Season one’s episode “Swarm Of The Century” when Rarity has her try a dress on and she’s trotting in place...Rarity tells her to stand still and she says “I can’t! I need to fly, this is way too boring for me!” I personally think the aspects that can be viewed as narcissistic are more a combination of her upbringing and her ADHD. Having parents that support and praise you as strongly as hers would produce the kind of confidence she has in herself, even though she recognizes her own flaws and how her parents praise her more than her achievements warrant, she seems to overcome her doubt by telling herself (and others for that matter) that she can do whatever she sets out to, similarly to how her parents would probably encourage her when she doubted herself. In Season 7’s “Fame and Misfortune” she even sings about her overconfident ego giving her the courage to fail. Representing the element of loyalty, her lack of regard for others only appears when she becomes completely obsessed with an idea which is another common trait of ADHD...though my personality combines the flaws of Rainbow, Twilight and Fluttershy and my overthinking, caring nature never lets me forget how any of my actions might affect another person, I know what it’s like to become so obsessed with something that you become absorbed by it and forget pretty much everything else in the process.
Pinkie Pie shows textbook Autism herself. A lot of people displaying Autism commonly known as savants tend to be somewhat gifted in certain skill sets, and that has Pinkie Pie written all over it. Her Childlike demeanor might not make her the kind of person you’d want to hire for a job, but she’s incredibly smart. She knows the names, birthdays, and preferences of every Ponyville resident by memory.
aesthetic rose Talks for watching, but Yikes! I hope you are joking. This video was for entertainment and education. Not diagnosing anything. Self-diagnosing can be dangerous. Only a professional can make a proper diagnosis.
@@hallelujahbrony3263 Self-diagnostic is actually a pretty good thing. You're able to feel more valid and to actually search help, professionally or not (if it's not possible to get professional help), and as long as the deep researches are made or that you don't say it to catch everyone's attention...I don't really see any bad things in it ^^'
honestly self-diagnosing isn't that bad as long as you plan to take it to a professional and do extensive research. (coming from someone who has adhd and autism which was both diagnosed by a professional)
I think Apple Jack has depression or something, so she tries to hide it by being so out going and determined. I don’t know tho because we haven’t really seen her be super sad, but this is just what I think it could be. What do YOU think?
I really liked that one episode where pinkie pie experiences extremely severe dissociation, depersonalisation, and identity alteration? It’s just so relatable! … just me? okay … *Later diagnosed with D.I.D.* Thanks My Little Pony …
I’m my opinion AJ has anxiety. Most stubborn people are stubborn because they’re afraid of change. A lot of things have changed for AJ within the past couple years. She lost her parents, is now in charge of Sweet Apple Acres, became the element of honesty, is helping other ponies with friendship problems, and has to saving Equestria almost every year! Then she has to deal with her own problems like getting things done on time because waiting is not an option for her. And she could possibly be depressed because she lost BOTH her parents and has little to know emotional support because she refuses to let others help her. All that weight being put on one pony and then refusing to go to others. Stubbornness isn’t a disorder but the effects of it can be.
I belive this is why they made them like that. Adhd, anxiety, ocd, etc.. These are quite normal disorder and thats why many people who watch have fav ponies which could mean they relate. The show teaches the viewers who might have these disorders that everything will be fine and show them ways to cope with the.
Before i even waith this, fluttershy has social anxiety. Im just gonna say right now. (But can also be very aggresive because she bottles up her feelings out of her fear to talk to people about it.) Edit: I KNEW IT!!
9:07 I thought I remembered an episode where pinkie pie was starting to become grey and went to this place thing.. I don’t know where that episode or what that episode is/ is called but I know that i did see it
applejack could have Asperger's syndrome, one of the common symptoms is social awkwardness due to an inability to 'read between the lines' subtlety is lost on those with this autistic spectrum disorder, they also can be quite blunt and direct...sound familiar? and before you ask no i dont have that one but i have a few friends who do.
Borderline personality disorder (BPD), is almost a perfect match for Pinkie. feel very worried about people abandoning you, and would do anything to stop that happening have very intense emotions that last from a few hours to a few days and can change quickly (for example, from feeling very happy and confident in the morning to feeling low and sad in the afternoon) not have a strong sense of who you are, and it can change depending on who you're with act impulsively and do things that could harm you (such as binge eating, using drugs or driving dangerously)... Namely the binge eating... have suicidal thoughts or self-harming behavior... About the only thing that doesn't match. feel empty and lonely a lot of the time... Whenever she is at a loss for what to do... mostly when she is unable to make others happy. get very angry, and struggle to control your anger... Never break a Pinkie Promise... When Stressed, the following applies to those with BDP: Feel Paranoid Have psychotic experiences, such as seeing or hearing things that other people don't feel numb or 'checked out' and not remember things properly after they've happened. She also shows signs of Schizotypal personality disorder. believe that you can read minds or that you have special powers such as a ‘sixth sense’... Pinkie Sense anyone? behave in ways that others find eccentric... If you don't think this is Pinkie Pie, you're delusional. think and express yourself in ways that others find ‘odd’, using unusual words or phrases... Again, if you don't think this is Pinkie Pie, you're delusional. feel anxious and tense with others who do not share these beliefs... How she dealt with Cranky Doodle Donkey. feel very anxious and paranoid in social situations... The Situation with the Yaks. Situation with Cheese Sandwich. find making close relationships extremely difficult... The only one that doesn't match.

Honestly I wish I had those personal qualities too
Having a good work ethic and trying to be independent isn't a disorder tho ....
@@NoNo-nj5un Well, you're right about that. But when you're so stubborn you end up being so fatigued you can't see, hear or think straight- that's when it's a disorder.

That still technically isn’t a disorder because she is still feeding herself, she accidentally banged up her hearing, and lack of sleep is the cause of her eye sight(I’ve had enough of that in middle school). She has a extremely important job tot do that she has both responsibility and stubbornness to do. She has to get all them apples by the season but she also takes things like help as a challenge. That, believe it or not, is stubbornness.

Pinkie Pie actually really fits the description of someone with BPD.
And as someone with BPD ( borderline personality disorder ) I can say that I see myself a lot in Pinkie Pie.
- Fear of abandonment
- Unstable yet intense relationships
- Unclear or unstable self-image
- Impulsive, self-destructive behaviors
- Extreme emotional swings
- Psychotic experiences under stress
Pinkie definitely shows a few of these symptoms.
Anjanka Jeff-Apologist I agree with this. As someone who suffers from BPD myself. I think your right
My father has BPD and honestly thinking about it and what I’ve seen from him. I think you are 100% correct in saying that Pinkie has it.
Anjanka Jeff-Apologist no wonder pinkie pie was my favorite I related to her a lot with I was a kid and rainbow dash (no big suprise I turned out this way😗)
AGREED I ALSO HAVE BPD!!!

Asch Arts Where is Twinkle Sprinkle?
Rainbow Dash is the most obvious case of ADHD I've seen in my life but she's still awesome.
i am rainbow dash, rainbow dash is me. lol.

When I was younger I never noticed all of this. Now that I started watching the show again, I'm noticing of this.

Idk

I have ocd so it offends me when people fake that they have ocd and they think its making things that are not straight perfect
I also have ocd and it also offends me
I don't know if I have OCD.

@@flamyluci pretty sure they meant to type anypony
Good point. I would've DEFINITELY thought that Fluttershy's lessons were repetitive, but now that you bring up the fact that getting over something like this would take a LOOOOOT more than just an episode's adventure, it makes sense why she'd have to continuously get over it in different situations.
Applejack's a workaholic...
I don't think that's really a mental disorder though, or at least, can't be classified in the DSM 5. Though I could be wrong, that just sounds like a trait of her character.

She is brutally honest and will tell the truth even in dire situations where a lie is needed
She is extremely stubborn and will push her way through to get her way done at times.

Yeah, but many say that she is a workaholic. I say she has has healthy boundaries, but is set on her own ways
He just wanted to make sure nobody would call him out on that or something
Well it can be (Oppositional Defiance Disorder).
This me in a fucking nutshell
Essay over!
mia Thank you for sharing how ASD affects your life.

Applejack might have depression. She had the loss of her 2 parents. And allow me address:
“The biggest smiles have the darkest secrets”
“The prettiest eyes have shed the most tears”
“The kindest hearts have felt the most pain.”
So it’s a possibility
AJ has abandonment issues; Dashie is hiding her true self and emotions; Pinkie is a child in a grown up's body; Twilight isn't happy being an alicorn princess and secretly wants her old unicorn life back; Fluttershy knows how the cowardly lion feel; Rarity's job is like a drug addiction that she can't overcome.
Who knows? They may be like that behind the scenes.
That would be cool
It would be horrible not cool.

Who said that Twilight wanted to be an unicorn again?
Best idea for mlp:adult party cartoon
Maybe Applejack has Self-defeating Personality Disorder? She puts herself in harms way a lot...
Gray The Floof yeah, she literally put her sleep on hold in that one episode, with her being really tired and dizzy in the morning, even having some double vision
She doesn't quite match up with the symptoms. Or maybe I'm just missing something.
I think she also has separation anxiety and depression
Maybe the adhd should be meant for applejack
AJ could just have hidden depression considering her “crying on the inside” quote from when tank went into hibernation episode
I don’t think RD is a narcissist. True NPD sufferers are extremely manipulative and often see people as tools. I’ve lived with one of these people my whole life. RD is not manipulative and she actually cares about her friends.
That actually sounds more like Rarity. I am not saying that Rarity has NPD. I am not an expert.
@@morianarnia9356 Rarity doesn't manipulate anyone either. No one in the show does.
ADHD has whole cloud of nearby disorders and NPD is somewhere within it.
Also, it may be some kind of escaping her own adhd reality, when she acts like that. She needs external stimuli and admiration to get things done..
And i'm sure that if she finds time and calmness for her friends, she can be quite empathetic towards them.
are you armchair diagnosing, OP
npd doesn’t automatically mean you’re a manipulator though
About AppleJack--You say that stubbornness is not a mental disorder but it can be a side effect of guilt. When her parents "disappeared", she essentially abandoned the family to go to Manehatten. When she returned, she threw herself into farm work with a wild intensity to compensate for what she did. Her insistence on bucking all the apple trees herself seems to me to be a form of maintaining a false self-image. AppleJack is a tough, independent farm pony. Showing weakness is NOT allowed. This could also be a factor in her constant athletic competitions with Rainbow Dash.
john krappweis
Oh wow, I was going to comment something like this but you basically summed it all up. Everyone sees Applejack as the most normal but she has plenty of things wrong with her as well she just usually doesn't show them in public
While guilt may be a contributing factor in what she's doing, that's not a disorder either.
You just gotta put in the effort.
apple jack is a capricorn. nothing more.

"Smiling for a long period of time can cause psychopathy"
Applejack is easy. She’s a workaholic. And might sometimes over thinks things.
This also applies to Winnie the Pooh, does it not?
+Omni Viewer Yup, I was thinking the same thing while making this video. Each character has at least one Learning Disorder or Personality Disorder. Dyslexia seems to be the most prevalent in that group.
+Hallelujah Brony Well, that's no surprise. Whenever we see the Equestrian alphabet, it's all but unreadable.
Omni Viewer it does
The characters of Winnie the Pooh are the stuffed toys of a young boy. Thus, their personalities are simple and stereotypical. Owl, for instance, is supposed to be wise, but his knowledge comes from a child and his personality is based on the stereotypical old aristocratic who'd been (or pretends to have been) a gentleman adventurer in his youth.
Omni Viewer 😐😐😐😐
I've seen pinkie in quite a few episodes have hallucinations and/or delusions, so I think it's quite possible that she has bipolar schizoaffective disorder! I have it too, it's an extremely rare condition that consists of mood disorder symptoms and symptoms of schizophrenia. Most people (im pretty sure) have mania so, I think it makes sense
Most people don’t experience mania
We all knew RD had ADHD when Twilight was trying to teach her wonderbolt history
I think Fluttershy might have mild PTSD as being bullied as a child made her afraid to do things as an adult, and even gets flashbacks to being teased when she was young.
I don't think Rainbow has ADHD, or atleast, not strongly.
Why not? They're all *my* favorite.

My opinions:
Rainbow Dash: ADHD
Fluttershy: Social Anxiety

AppleJack: separation anxiety
Pinkie pie: Bipolar Disorder
Rarity Histrionic Personality Disorder
I’d say that rarity also has OCD. She wants to make her clothes perfect. She’s also a huge drama queen

The concept of giving a character a specific, researched mental disorder to make them more real is a very interesting approach to me. And something I had not really considered. Thanks a lot for this great video.
I think you make a lot of sense. Granted I have to really wonder how Fluttershy got so shy and anxious.
+Carmyn D It is easy to label as an annoying habit, but I think she has the most serious condition, yet luckily it seems to have improved over the seasons.
True. It's just that she used to make me think that her parents must have raised her in a basement closet or something.
+Carmyn D Or taught her the stranger danger principle.
Remember filly's and colts don't talk to strangers. Fluttershy: "Ok, won't talk to anypony ever.

@@hallelujahbrony3263Actually I self-diagnosed with BPD and I ended up being right
Well this just showed up in my recommended...

Recon.777 Well said. I don't understand why everyone is all about assigning mental health problems to fictional characters these days.

Never thought I’d be watching a grown man talk about mlp
Never though any one cared if a grown man had a fucking interest
@example 1 example 2 no like, even if they are your friends, you dont want them to touch you
From my perspective:
1.Twilight A severe case of OCD, with Anxiety Disorder
2 .Fluttershy has Anxiety and I would I argue she has Avoidant Disorder.
+Christinewho Gaming No, no, no, don't get me wrong... She's overreacting, and it shouldn't be considered as a part of being a perfectionist.
Just that ADHD and scizofrenia don't really usually together since they are caused by opposite malfunctions in the brains reward system ADHD being to little rewards and Scizofrenia to much.
Other than that I find your diagnosis very fitting.👍

Wait if Apple jack had a a sad back story would that mean she's been through trauma? Diagnosis PTSD I think?
not necessarily. not all people with sad pasts have ptsd. it is still a possibility, though
she doesn't really give signs of ptsd, no
I kinda agree showing that I gave ptsd
I kinda agree, I think she has separation anxiety though.
Autism also often presents itself along with some other mental conditions or disorders, such as anxiety.
she has ocd (why am i responding a year later? because i can)

I need to fly, this is way too boring for me!”
I personally think the aspects that can be viewed as narcissistic are more a combination of her upbringing and her ADHD.
She knows the names, birthdays, and preferences of every Ponyville resident by memory.
this video diagnosed me with anxiety, social anxiety and panic disorder
aesthetic rose Talks for watching, but Yikes! I hope you are joking. This video was for entertainment and education. Not diagnosing anything. Self-diagnosing can be dangerous. Only a professional can make a proper diagnosis.

Self-diagnostic is actually a pretty good thing. You're able to feel more valid and to actually search help, professionally or not (if it's not possible to get professional help), and as long as the deep researches are made or that you don't say it to catch everyone's attention...I don't really see any bad things in it ^^'
@@painslut self diagnosing is a not good final note, unless you intend to take your suspicions to a professional.
