And they were basically re-enacting a real life situation they experienced, just that it was Patton Oswalt's new wife having trouble bonding with his daughter
@@SkydreamPony As Clear Sky, I think she did a pretty decent job with the material she was given. But the clear stand out star was young Miss Oswalt as Windsprint.
I tend to describe The Perfect Pear thus. Fans wanted to know how the Apple parents died. The show instead told us how they lived. And I am ever so grateful for that.
I agree, that episode was great not only in how they included show fan William Shatner, but also a really heartfelt emotional plot; The best theory I heard for how they died though is they were killed by the chimera while making the pie delivery done in somepony to watch over me which would explain Applejack s paranoia throughout that episode.th-cam.com/video/_AeqV5nkyX0/w-d-xo.html
It is always the "quiet" ones... -> He had a collection of clouds. She had a garden in the clouds. Fluttershy herself is an avid manga/anime fan (or whatever equivalent there is in Equestria); something so uncommon none of her friends even recognized the characters (when she attempted to scare them with cutout figures).
They probably misunderstood something and thought the other one was asking them out, and both were too scared to do anything other than go along with it.
My dad let me buy whatever I wanted as long as I had the money. It was very formative in saving and learning what I did and did not need. BUT, he pulled through when he saw I wanted something that meant a lot to me: The third edition print of Fallout: Equestria. To date, I still have this book and have expanded my library of pony fanworks. It’s one of the things that remind me of him even when I live far (enough) away.
I actually found myself feeling for RD in Parental Glideance more. Yes, her parents mean well. But if they keep drowning her in affection, it becomes overwhelming even for someone who loves attention, like Dash. And if they're willing to cheer her on for something as insignificant as hanging a towel...then the praise itself kinda loses its meaning. I don't like how the episode uses Scoots to guilt-trip RD into taking the entirety of the blame. Both parties were somewhat in the wrong, I think that's fairly clear from Bow and Windy firing fireworks during a Wonderbolts show without WARNING ANYONE.
@@jamestolbert1856 Their behavior was still too much for her to handle, and needed to be called out. RD wasn't exactly in the right headspace to deliver the message in a calm manner.
My thoughts exactly. It isn’t RD’s fault for wanting to set boundaries. She only ended up lashing out because they wouldn’t listen to her no matter what.
I don't know if it stopped being the case, but I remember loads of fan work about Derpy being a single working mom, which I guess that moment was a shout out too. I think it was an idea that really helped endear her and flesh out her image beyond just being goofy.
12:00 "Why don't I hear more people talking about this? Derpy would be a great mom." In fanon Derpy (Hooves) is usually considered the mom of Dinky Doo/Dinky Hooves, and often the mom or adoptive mom of Amethyst Star. It's usually pretty adorable. This is probably why her helping that pegasus colt with his derby cart hasn't gained much traction.
The mlp bandaid gift is so silly, it made me giggle, it's so sweet and wholesome, and I love it! Little things like this have a lot of meaning, and will be remembered for a long time. And just the fact that they tried is so heartwarming.
I'm really endeared by the stories you shared about your own parents, that last one about the bandaids made me tear up a little ngl. I enjoy your videos a lot and this one is no different! Your editing is always great and the background music isn't too distracting. I love seeing the parents in mlp, pony genetics really interest me so it was cool to find this video on my homepage. Keep it up man!
I was gonna make a comment about this as well, but you pretty much said what I was thinking. I love how open Johnny is and he really comes off as emotionally intelligent. I never realized until I was an adult how many people have trouble expressing their feelings properly and I really appreciate genuine displays of emotional vulnerability; it's even more surprising when it's with an audience and not just loved ones. I understand *why* people may have their guards up, and I'm definitely guilty of this myself, but it's honestly such a good feeling when you're able to express yourself in comfort at essentially any time. Not to make too many assumptions about Johnny, of course.
Excellent video. I want to add that Queen Haven is an interesting parent figure because you get to see her going from living with her kids to her kids moving out and starting new lives but still being in contact. It's a fun dynamic.
I would LOVE to see if G5 explores the idea of Haven and Alphabittle getting married, and Misty and Pipp/Zipp being half sisters. That would be amazing.
@@gatorgoatjohnny Add Izzy Moonbow (who was "de-facto" adopted by Alphabittle) to the mix. -> With Sunny being an "alicorn" [ a "de-jure" Princess], then the only one who would NOT be "royalty" would be Sheriff Hitch [unless his adoptive son Sparky (who seems to be a "chosen one" sorcerer) is also revealed to be a Dragon Prince or something].
My parents are well aware of my love for the series. It was my favorite show growing up and is still one of my favorites to this day. My mom is incredibly supportive and even helped me make Twilight wings (which are massive, we used a maleficent pattern) to wear to a convention to meet Tara Strong. She knows the show is more than your run of the mill kids show and I am so grateful that she’ll happily listen to any talk about it. My first ever convention even happened to be a Mlp convention that she took me to while I was middle school. I love both of my parents and am so glad that they do not mind my out of the ordinary interests!
My parents are completely okay with their adult kids enjoying My Little Pony because our dad turned into the biggest brony out of all of us. We're more casual viewers while dad quickly went from watching over our shoulders to watching on his own to writing fanfiction to attending conventions. The bandaids made me laugh because we've pretty much all gifted him pony stuff over the years, from licensed to homemade. Including our mom, she commissioned artwork of his favorite character, Twilight Sparkle (who is his favorite because she resembles our mom). "Cartoons are for children" or "needing to throw out childish hobbies or interests when you become an adult" was never a thing in our house. That's just a bunch of nonsense created by old bitter adults trying to make more old bitter adults. Keep the things that make you happy and keep adding to them as you grow.
It really is a shame that parental characters in mlp fim were given such limited screen time, Whether they were the parents of main or or secondary characters. It would've been interesting if they had made more episodes that focused specifically more on family dynamics and bonding just like "Once Upon a Zeppelin" somewhat did with Twilight's family. Because in addition to parental figures getting more screen time in the show, It would've also given the main characters more development.
Truthfully, I’d take Celestia as a mother. My relationship with my parents hasn’t necessarily been great. Never outright hostile or physical, mostly distanced and dismissive. I’m always told to drop whatever I’m doing to come partake in what the family enjoys, but then when I want them to try something I like, it’s always ‘Ohh, we’ll have to see if we can fit it in our schedules! We might be able to tonight.’ Or when we have guests over, they expect me to engage with whatever they set up, but if I want to show the guests something I’m into, I’m told by my parents that the guests wouldn’t care and wouldn’t be interested in it. It’s why I never really speak about what my interests are, even when asked. When you’re told over a span of years that you should take interest in the lives and interests of others, but told that no one would care about your interests by the two most influential people in a child’s life, you grow to internalize that and come to believe it’s true. Celestia’s attentiveness with Twilight always resonated with me, because my parents have always been so dismissive, I’d stand to argue I never really had parents, just two landlords.
@user-vl6dc2mc8hplease don’t go looking for traumatized people that you can influence. religion isn’t something that should be pushed on others, it’s something that someone should find themselves and make an active decision to practice if they want to.
My parents are young and nerdy, so I'm fortunate that they've been largely supportive of my hyper-fixations. (They grew up with conservative boomer parents, so I think they understand better than most how it feels to have your passions disrespected.) When it comes to "MLP," our entire household was into it at one point. We took pony personality quizzes online and made vague plans to go to conventions (though that never happened). We even went to see the movie in theaters. A younger coworker of my mom's who was also a fan, went with us. Hands down, my favorite theater experience of 2017, and one of my favorite theater experiences in general. There was something so liberating about being a late-teens/early-twenties girl and enjoying something traditionally "girlie"/"kiddie" without feeling any shame about it because your younger brother, stepdad, and older sister enjoyed it, too. 😁 The only one who never really "got it" was my dad. (The whole idea of the brony fandom was too much for him to handle, let's say.) But he was at least nice enough not to directly put me down over it. Sorry for the text crawl. I've been waiting for a chance to write about this somewhere. Makes me realize how awesome my family is and how much I love them. 🥰 Great video!
this made me tear up a little, that’s so sweet!! your family sounds lovely. having your interests validated by your parents and even participated in, especially one that may be “controversial” like MLP, is so nice. thanks for sharing your story!!
No MLP characters can replace my parents, especially my Dad. My Dad had taught me many great lessons throughout my childhood, some of those lessons were life changing. My respect and love my parents.
@@livia4838 To put it in brief, fandom bullshit. The most common sentiment I saw expressed was that AJ's parents were gone so long, how could they just come back, especially since it has been heavily implied/theorized the Apple siblings were orphans. How could their parents just waltz back into their lives? This was entirely based on the info that they were making an appearance at all, with no episode context. Basically, people were mad about their headcannons being messed with.
@@ShadowyKatz That's such a needlessly unpleasant way to say it. Dumb fandom bullshit mad about headcanon? It was incredibly valid criticism of what would have been a terrible idea. The fans were not wrong at all in their response, only wrong in their interpretation of the teased info. The fandom can be blamed for causing outrage over nothing at times, but it's not fair to phrase this as one of those times. Especially since it was a blip as far as how long this drama lasted as we got the episode so soon after.
It was more a case that fans were worried that they would just introduce Applejack's parents the same way they did rarity's parents when Lauren Forest specifically said they are dead and when Applejack looks up at the sky in apple family reunion at the two shooting stars that's representing that they're with her in spirit. She would have even made an episode on their passing, but she didn't think Hasbro would have allowed it.
The tree bit for the Changelings is from comics in fiendship is magic. I still believe that she dose make her own children due to Thorax talking about it to Spike. Which made me wonder why such a small group attacked Canterlot. I think a race we will never see helped by stopping a massive invasion and probably wiping themselves out almost. I have been playing with the idea myself and linked my OC to there race a little. The Changelings and Queen Chrysalis have always had me thinking and wondering more about them.
honestly i find it shocking how many of the mane six (and co)’s parents/ parental figures were put on the show i just thought they only featured twighlight’s and pinkie pie’s glad i came across this video :D
I always thought Dash was in the right, even when they told us that she was in the wrong because she’s in the right to feel like her parents are a little bit too overbearing. I thought the solution would be for her to tell her parents that she appreciates what they’ve done for her but if they could tone down their constant yelling, and Whoopy, you did it and maybe cheer in a less assertive tone? if that’s the right way to call it. I think both Rainbow Dash and her parents in that episode were in the right. They were right to be hurt by her outburst, but she was right to feel the way that she did because despite them being the ones who made her who she is, and that she should appreciate them for what they’ve done for her they also get a little bit in the way with all of that cheering. They mean well, and that’s what matters, but maybe maybe they can celebrate in the less fan girly way and more of a parents way. Like yell at each other, Whoopy, that’s my girl yeah! instead of yelling at other ponies that she’s the best at everything. 🤷♀️ just my thought.
exactly. it would've been much better if the show presented it in a naunced way instead of blaming rainbow dash for being upset at her parents being overbearing
It's funny how MLP comics were revealed as in-universe fiction made by Spike to -spread Twilight's propaganda- justify all canon contradictions -which was totally not censorship-
the little stories you gave about your parents are super adorable. I’ve always been incredibly open about my interests to my parents, yet it seems like my dad is always clueless about what I like and do. having parents that try to connect with you when it comes to your interests is so special.
i started liking mlp when i was suuuuper young, i was born in 2005 and joined about the time of canterlot wedding so i was around 7 years old. back then my parents were still very protective over what i watched, i wanted to share everything anyways, so my dad watched the whole show with me. to this day (im almost 19 and starting my 2nd year of college) we still talk about and watch old episodes we liked when i was little. i love my dad ❤️
11:55 When I first saw this ep and saw the kid with derpy I generally thought it was her little brother. (kinda wish it was canon/get to see more content with them)
the pressure definitely gets to you. my parents were somewhat like that but a lot less severe about it. i can imagine how if your parents celebrate when you get an achievement you would feel absolutely worthless when you aren’t the absolute best.
I dont typically comment on pony videos since it's not my strongest interest, but I really want to say that I like your section about Applejack the most, as it hits the most home for me. You are completely correct in that the show hits the nail on the head in how deceased parents are typically remembered. (Just a warning, I'm about to get a bit personal, so if a random commentor's business isn't something you wanna hear about, scroll by.) My mother died late last year from (if i recall correctly) liver failure that resulted from cancer treatment. She was a Stage 4 cancer patient and had fought for years and came out from chemotherapy each day still as strong as ever. There was multiple points where she seemingly narrowly avoided death. But at some point, she tanked hard, which in hindsight was likely the liver failure hitting her already weakened body like a truck, and it only took three days before she was handed the mercy of hospice care and eventually, death. I have a very poor memory most of the time, its a problem of mine, but the memories i do retain of her is small things we did together or anecdotes of things she did or what she was like, just like Applejack and her siblings. I remember small things, like how she went Action Park when she was young and escaped relatively unscathed, or that time I asked her about Showbiz Pizza and she told me that the pizza tasted like cardboard and the robots were creepy as hell. Its not much, but it makes me feel like she's still with me, and that's all that really matters. That night, when i went home from the hospital, i got on a call with my one of my closest friends, and watched The Perfect Pear with him. Its been my comfort episode ever since and helped me through my grieving in a way that another human, no matter how close, really couldnt. Im so happy that many people consider The Perfect Pear one of (if not) the best episodes in FiM. It has thoroughly earned such a title, and I'm glad there's a push for more family dynamics in media. Its just something the average person doesnt think matters, but once you experience it yourself, you realize what these do for you and many others. Love this video and your ranking, and i love the way you analyze the silly horse show. Hope you keep going with this.
Thank you so much for sharing. ❤ It sounds like your mom lived a full life. It’s the little things you remember, like when Haley’s mom was at Stage 3 cervical cancer, and she was so high on painkillers that she called their house and tried to leave an answering machine message for their cat. It’s awesome that your mom wanted to share those Action Park and Showbiz Pizza memories with you.
My parents are basically Pinkie Pie and Sludge (Spike's "dad"). I never see my dad anymore, and my mum is great but is non-stop busy making everyone's day better. So it's effortless to imagine how Lil Cheese is gonna feel about his mum as he grows up. Both my parents know I like pony, and the one time I tried to go to a con, I was told not without adult supervision as my dad did not trust any of us going anywhere ever. I was at this time an adult and said as such. He responded with a condescending "no you're not"... Meanwhile my mum has gotten me a few pony figures here and there, mostly ones she found at work, rather than going out and buying. Thanks to her and a couple friends I ended up with an impressive figure collection. It never really comes up though in conversation. IRL there's no-one at all I can share my MLP interest with. Though my mum is the type to also embarassingly call out that she found something I'd love at the charity shop or the car-boot sale, and it'll be some G3 trash. I don't mind it anymore, now that being a brony isn't special or new. It's become old and normal. Nothing left to be embarrassed about. Just so long as I can clarify "nonono that's Pony Life, that's not the same thing I like. Yes I know the characters have the same names and colors but it doesn't count!"
I want to talk about the absolutely terrible conditions in which Trixie began and the conditions of Twilight’s literally predetermined fate. All of her main advantages were obtained thanks to someone (magic from the cutie mark, friends from the Celestial Plane, wings from the Starswirl)
My mom has made a lot of irreversible mistakes to me and my siblings growing up, and as frustrating as she can be, she makes the effort and I just wanna say that.
Parents are definitely interesting because as you said in the video, no two people will have the same experiences with them. Thank you for sharing those personal bits with us! I'm sad we didn't see more of Rarity's parents. We know very little about her past-I'd say the rest of the mane six got something at least a bit more substantial than she did. And the fact Rarity's so different from her parents and perhaps weren't so supportive of her love of fashion and high society at first had potential for some good stories, as the comics sort of proved. I'd also like to add Twilight to the list of honorable mentions. Yeah, her treatment of Spike wasn't always perfect, a reason people don't like Spike's earlier episodes, and maybe she's more of a sister figure than a mother. And perhaps I'm projecting, as I'm also an only child adopted by a single mother of a different race/culture, but in all the things wrong with Father Knows Beast, Twilight definitely wasn't one of them.
My mom died when I was 13. Never had a dad. To say my relationship with parenthood is complicated is an understatement. But I really enjoy these types of moments in kids shows.
i get the talk about your own parents. my parents buy me an mlp gift every christmas since i told them i liked it- but they definitely made fun of me at first. now i think they legit like it, and they always get me twilight sparkle. hopefully toys keep getting produced of her so they can continue getting them for me
Whenever I tell my mom about what games and shows I like, she does sit there and lets me talk about it even if she doesn't understand it. Like with MLP, she knows I like it and when I told her I liked the show she said something like 'your a bit big to like a kids show but as long as your happy then I'm happy.' She supports what I like even if to her, I'm too big for it and that's all I can ask for 🤩🤩
OMG! The contortions your parents went through to feighn interest in your MLP consumption cracked me up the entire video. Thanks for sharing. This was a cool watch. Now to go finish watching so I can meet all those parents they finally introduced AFTER I quit watching.
I feel like Rarity’s parents were only introduced to get people to stop theorizing that Rarity went through teenage pregnancy to become Sweetie Belle’s mom and then wrote them out of the story because they didn’t serve a purpose beyond dismissing that not-so-TV-Y theory. Anyways, The Perfect Pear is the perfect episode and I’m going to go cry.
I'll tell you the story of when my parents found out I like mlp. Since I am legally blind, I can download pretty much any book for free on bookshare, which my account is with my mom's email, so she gets an email for the books I download. I decided to get some mlp books off bookshare, and my mom saw that. One day when my whole family gathered together, my mom asked me if I had been reading mlp. I admitted that I watch mlp. The best part is, it was only my mom who was a little weirded out, not my dad or any of my siblings. My dad knew about bronys, and had seen some episodes, because my younger sister watches mlp, so he knew how good it actually is. All my other siblings have watched mlp as well (just never revealed to my parents). My older sisters played with mlp toys, and I think they watched some generation before g4, but since my younger sister had been watching g4, they also watched it. My brother actually watched mlp years ago, and I think it came up once in my house, but what really got me to know for sure, was when my band teacher (who was the same one for my brother) mentioned that my brother watched mlp (that was actually part of how I got into mlp). My other sister, who is also older than me, she watched fim a couple years ago, so she knows everything about it. And then my second younger sister (I have a lot of sisters) has watched mlp with my youngest sister, although I think she doesn't like it (she doesn't like bluey, so her opinions are terrible), and then my youngest sister is who brought mlp on our tv for the first time since the time when my two oldest sisters watched it. Basically, the only one in my family that hasn't seen g4 (is my mom she watched g1), and so she doesn't know how awesome it is. Also, just to be clear, I'm pretty sure my parents didn't know all my siblings also watched mlp, since I only found out way later (I'm the last one in my family to watch mlp).
It's pretty impressive that even after all these years, well beyond the end of the Brony community's golden era, some of you still stuck with it and didn't move on to Bluey. 🤣
super epic comprehensive list! big thanks for your explorations of these characters and their dynamics! reminding me how many episodes aren't on netflix ::P
The perfect pear episode at least to me felt like MLP reaching its peak maturity. I didn’t see all of the later seasons but I felt like it was just perfect. Not only cause it answered a long held question beautifully. But because it perfectly captures that bittersweet feeling of hearing stories about a lost parent. That episode still makes me cry
I too wish Alphabittle was my dad, but instead I got Opaline as a dad! Also Derpy canonically having a son/little brother/nephew/ younger cousin is adorable and makes me happy
To the thing about Derpy being a mom, a good chunk of fans' headcanon is that she IS a mom. They call her Dinky Hooves and she's a cute little unicorn. As to who the headcanon-father is, that differs from story to story. For most instances, he's just not in the picture, period and it's never talked about. In one story in particular she's a mixed-DNA clone of her and Time Turner/Doctor Whooves or a rando college unicorn that she met at a graduation party. I've yet to read a story where he's dead or they're divorced.
My mom loved my little pony when she was little so she was overjoyed when I became a fan of it, although I was a young child when I became a fan, we still both enjoy the show together even though I’m an adult. My dad is very neutral about it but he would enjoy watching it with me sometimes, I knew his favorites were applejack and fluttershy bc he found them funny. Me becoming a fan of MLP as a child actually got my mom into collecting old g1 ponies so now she has a bunch of them in her office.
I stopped being interested (the first time round) in MLP not long after my 12th birthday. perhaps a little "too old" to be into it or whatever, but I'll never forget the Canterlot Castle playset they got me as a gift. I could never bring myself to part with all the pony stuff they'd let me indulge in. even with my more recent interests, they'll find and show me things they've seen while they were out, or get me stuff. I'm getting back into MLP again, now a college student, and thinking about what my parents might say about it now that I'm older. I suppose if they still show me Mario or Sonic-related stuff at my age, hopefully they won't take too much issue with MLP either. parents that support your interests really do wonders. Everyone deserves parents like that :)
Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles are, hands down, the best parents of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! Yes, they may go a little overboard with their support, but their hearts are in the right place. Plus, I think that Bow and Windy make the perfect parents, not just for Rainbow Dash, but for Scootaloo as well. If they had Bow and Windy adopted Scootaloo and made her their 2nd daughter, it would have been wonderful to see Rainbow and Scootaloo's sister bond becoming offical! Pear Butter and Bright Mac are also really good, although I think that they're a little....overrated. As for worst parents...definitely Snap Shutter and Mane Allgood. They absolutely suck! On every level they suck!
RD's parents are great, but they need to tone it down a bit, their presence and how they kept over celebrating everything was overwhelming, and overdoing it makes praise they give lose meaning when they do it over literally everything. I also absolutely adore Brightmac and Pear Butter, watching their relationship grow and how they handled their struggles was so sweet. How Granny Smith took in Buttercup like that, despite her being a pear, was a big deal.
@@Chiller-pc1dv I respect your opinion. In my opinion, Bow and Windy are WAY better than Snap and Mane as well as... *Cough-Cough* ...Butters' parents Stephen and Linda...
To be honest,i have the same kind of parents. I am not the biggest mlp fan, but i adore things like pokemon and certain anime. My parent's, who grew up in the late 70s, never really understood the hype for these things. But every so often, my mom would find something pokemon or an anime thing while thrift shopping and ask if i have it already. Dad doesnt care about my hobbies but he respects them
I’m Eastern European, of course my parents have no idea I watch MLP videos. Also, my brother would probably call me a hypocrite, because I’m pretty sure I didn’t allow him to watch MLP when we were younger (for obvious reasons)
Be glad that considered you an "investment", rather than another piece of social furniture to decorate the house of his life (like many men do, starting with their wife).
@@adolfodef that is fair. Its an interesting mental and emotional acrobatics talking to him. Like a business strategy/meeting. Paraphrased Example: ("Can you exchange anything of value for my help, or will you just donate your time to work for me for experiance?")
My family have always kinda tease me about still loving "colorful ponies",.but there was this birthday a few years ago, where tecnically I was a "teeenager" and "too old for ponies" but my oldest bother (who teased me the most) and my parents got me a "My little pony birthday cake"( possibly made by my goodmother) and they allowed me to keep the four little-sized ponies that were "modeling" in the cake. So I have a quartet of Rarity ,Flutershy, Rainbow dash and Cherrilee that are my most cherissed gift ever 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I've honestly never seen a cartoon episode where kids love their parents and not been like "damn bootlickers". I've not seen any episodes past season four just because I've been out of the fandom for so long. I didn't get to grow up with actual parents, partly because I was adopted, and partly because the people who adopted me were abusive in ways I i frequently wish I could forget. Even as a kid I didn't like them because of how I was treated, so these episodes from shows where parents are brought up are usually ones I skip by default. If I ever have kids I know for a fact I'll be better parents than them, but that wouldn't really be the explicit goal. If I had kids I'd want them to grow up to feel like life was worth living, a childhood worth remembering, parents that were never dangerous and abusive. To me my parents are dangerous freaks who hurt children for their own profit and enjoyment, I want that to be an alien concept to my future kids. I've gone way off topic, I guess.
Ditzy would not be great mom. Ditzy is best mom! Also, that was clearly supposed to be Dinky Doo and they just couldn't render her correctly. But then again, they literally used Archer and Sun Glimmer as place holder classmates for Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle respectively back in season one, so who's to say Dinky doesn't have a twin brother
I love my parents so much, they care for me and my brothers. Ofc they can be strict sometimes when we do something wrong but they just want us to be the best version of ourselves. They are cool that I like mlp, my dad watches with me when he came back from work everyday in my childhood. Surprisingly, he didn't mind if my brother was a brony, he just said it's cool we shared something :3. And i can kinda relate to Season9 Ep6, 4 years after my grandpa's passed away, my grandma started a relationship with other man, me and my brother didn't wanted to know anything about that man, we didn't wanted him to take my grandpa's place; but nowadays i have matured enough to know its ok if she wants to love him, also he isn't a bad person, he loves working and cares for her, i do jokes sometimes with him too. My brother still does not like him but tolerates him.
my mother doesn’t know i still like mlp, i keep it to myself since she points out things i like as childish already i don’t even wanna hear what she will say if she finds out, which sucks cause i see a lot of mlp plushies on sale and want to get them but can’t cause she sees my mail xd awesome video found a new mlp youtube to watch! 💙
12:14 awwwww the story made me cry, how sweet and funny and wholesome. Don’t mind me I’m a cry baby I cry for everything don’t know why I just do. I’m like Wade from elemental.
My parents are pretty supportive of my interest in that sweet but confused way. Like my mom went out of her way to ask me about the season finale of Bluey. And she let me briefly talk about how much I loved the writing. Buuut she also bought me a Bluey coloring book I’m definitely too old for 😅
4:41 i just realized how great that scene is. you rarely (never?) look in the same direction as the current protagonist. or pony. edit: like, take a closer look on scoots mane, how her head turns with the "camera". its interesting 🤔
I kind of wish my parents didnt call me childish for watching MLP. I used to watch it as a kid and now as a 15 year old I still love the series so much, sadly my mom calls me a baby when watching it. I wasnt really raised in a happy family. Also keep up the work on your videos they are awesome!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I think rarity’s parents are super absent because rarity was originally supposed to be sweetie belle’s mom but the show didn’t want to supports young pregnancy
Ironically enough with the quibble pants parent situation, it was actually Patton Oswalt acting across from his biological daughter.
And they were basically re-enacting a real life situation they experienced, just that it was Patton Oswalt's new wife having trouble bonding with his daughter

I tend to describe The Perfect Pear thus.
Fans wanted to know how the Apple parents died. The show instead told us how they lived. And I am ever so grateful for that.
OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS.
I feel it's always better to remember how someone lived then died
I describe it as a Pony version of a Nicholas Sparks novel, but this is better.
WAAIITT UR SO RIGHTTT AWWEE I LOVE THAT
Seeing how Fluttershy's parents behave (even shyer than her) It's a wonder they managed to go on a date let alone procreate.
Procreate TWICE too
Arranged marriage?
@@lastswordfighter WHY THE HELL ARE YOU EVEN HERE?!?
It is always the "quiet" ones...
-> He had a collection of clouds. She had a garden in the clouds.
Fluttershy herself is an avid manga/anime fan (or whatever equivalent there is in Equestria); something so uncommon none of her friends even recognized the characters (when she attempted to scare them with cutout figures).
They probably misunderstood something and thought the other one was asking them out, and both were too scared to do anything other than go along with it.
“it’s the proudest box of bandaids i own” is probably one of the most wholesome sentences i’ve ever heard
Your dad sounds great.
Yeah but she shouldn’t have yelled at them like that, especially since they’re the ones who helped put her in her place
@@jamestolbert1856 Their behavior was still too much for her to handle, and needed to be called out. RD wasn't exactly in the right headspace to deliver the message in a calm manner.
I agree, just watching the episode, I felt RD's stress, just watching her parents act like that was overwhelming.
@@freakcircus6109 I know
My thoughts exactly.
Yeah, Derpy being a single mom is actually incredibly common in MLP fanfics. Usually, her daughter is Dinky Doo.
Or Amethyst Sparkler, usually as an older child or teenager
@@TheRavenir Nice
@@bakedbaker9882 Or both, with Amethyst being the older sister.
12:00 "Why don't I hear more people talking about this? Derpy would be a great mom."
In fanon Derpy (Hooves) is usually considered the mom of Dinky Doo/Dinky Hooves, and often the mom or adoptive mom of Amethyst Star. It's usually pretty adorable. This is probably why her helping that pegasus colt with his derby cart hasn't gained much traction.
but that small pony looks like it could be either her canon kid, or maybe a sibling like sweetie and rare
The mlp bandaid gift is so silly, it made me giggle, it's so sweet and wholesome, and I love it! Little things like this have a lot of meaning, and will be remembered for a long time. And just the fact that they tried is so heartwarming.
I just love how he managed to perfectly talk about mlp parents while squeezing his own parents experiences in perfectly😭
This is one of my favorite episodes, I'm glad you liked it! My dad tries, he just doesn't get it.
I'm glad you liked it! And yeah, I always worry if the background music is distracting.
Whos Queen Haven?
Queen Haven is a character from G5, the ruler of Zephyr Heights, and Zipp and Pipp's mother!
Celestia’s attentiveness with Twilight always resonated with me, because my parents have always been so dismissive, I’d stand to argue I never really had parents, just two landlords.
i thought the same thing, i've considered her twilight's second mother for a little while now
@user-vl6dc2mc8hplease don’t go looking for traumatized people that you can influence. religion isn’t something that should be pushed on others, it’s something that someone should find themselves and make an active decision to practice if they want to.
My parents are young and nerdy, so I'm fortunate that they've been largely supportive of my hyper-fixations. (They grew up with conservative boomer parents, so I think they understand better than most how it feels to have your passions disrespected.)
When it comes to "MLP," our entire household was into it at one point. 😁
The only one who never really "got it" was my dad.
@@bonkers1917 Aww, thank you, and you're welcome! 😊
No MLP characters can replace my parents, especially my Dad. My Dad had taught me many great lessons throughout my childhood, some of those lessons were life changing.
My respect and love my parents.
I remembered how angry everyone was when it was announced Applejack's parents were gonna be in an episode.
Why?
@@livia4838 To put it in brief, fandom bullshit. The most common sentiment I saw expressed was that AJ's parents were gone so long, how could they just come back, especially since it has been heavily implied/theorized the Apple siblings were orphans. How could their parents just waltz back into their lives? This was entirely based on the info that they were making an appearance at all, with no episode context. Basically, people were mad about their headcannons being messed with.
@@ShadowyKatz Can't believe they didn't stop to consider these crazy things called flashbacks.
The Changelings and Queen Chrysalis have always had me thinking and wondering more about them.
honestly i find it shocking how many of the mane six (and co)’s parents/ parental figures were put on the show
i just thought they only featured twighlight’s and pinkie pie’s
glad i came across this video :D
That's cute, I like to hear your relationship with your parents
This was very entertaining to watch. I like how you include your own personal experience as well.
Rarely would I find a video on TH-cam about parents, let alone using examples from a franchise I like. So this was a real breath of fresh air for me.
11:55 When I first saw this ep and saw the kid with derpy I generally thought it was her little brother. (kinda wish it was canon/get to see more content with them)
I’d steal rainbow dash’s parents. Having parents be so unconditionally proud of me would’ve done wonders for me at a young age
I think I wouldn't mind borrowing them...maybe once a week.
the pressure definitely gets to you. my parents were somewhat like that but a lot less severe about it. i can imagine how if your parents celebrate when you get an achievement you would feel absolutely worthless when you aren’t the absolute best.
Man I love your commentary, so well written, surprised you don’t have more subs :3
This commentary video makes me want to rewatch these old FiM episodes!
6:22 You can't fool me. I know exactly what you're referencing here!
I dont typically comment on pony videos since it's not my strongest interest, but I really want to say that I like your section about Applejack the most, as it hits the most home for me. You are completely correct in that the show hits the nail on the head in how deceased parents are typically remembered.
(Just a warning, I'm about to get a bit personal, so if a random commentor's business isn't something you wanna hear about, scroll by.)
My mother died late last year from (if i recall correctly) liver failure that resulted from cancer treatment.
My mom had a rough time with her parents and she all ways try’s her best to parent me the best she can❤
I love watching your vids :) thanks for making pony content in this day and age
Your parents seem so wholesome ❤
cringe or not, your parents made an effort lol. you have a great family, cherish them.
My mom died when I was 13. Never had a dad. To say my relationship with parenthood is complicated is an understatement. But I really enjoy these types of moments in kids shows.
Derpy has a fanmade daughter named Ditzy she is a little purple unicorn, she some times is seen in the show standing next to Derpy or Doctor Whooves.
i get the talk about your own parents. my parents buy me an mlp gift every christmas since i told them i liked it- but they definitely made fun of me at first. now i think they legit like it, and they always get me twilight sparkle. hopefully toys keep getting produced of her so they can continue getting them for me
Whenever I tell my mom about what games and shows I like, she does sit there and lets me talk about it even if she doesn't understand it.
Now to go finish watching so I can meet all those parents they finally introduced AFTER I quit watching.
your mom was SO CUTE for that omg
The perfect pear was such a genuinely amazing episode. Still makes me cry to this day to be honest. It’s so beautiful, and such an amazing story.
I love Pinkie Pie’s parents, the way their face lights up suddenly at Pinkie’s first party fills my heart with joy
That's pretty cool! That's pretty awesome that your siblings all watched at one time or another.
This is an amazing video I loved it.. man if only I was in this community 14 years ago…
And here i thought that the Brony fandom had died out after Friendship is Magic but i guess not. Great video btw. Brohoof /) (\
Great video. I also think Oak Nut and Butternut (Pistachio’s parents from Best Gift Ever) are worth mentioning
Definitely. This list wasn't meant to be exhaustive, but I still feel bad I left them out.

WHY SO UNDERRATED 😭
To the thing about Derpy being a mom, a good chunk of fans' headcanon is that she IS a mom. They call her Dinky Hooves and she's a cute little unicorn. As to who the headcanon-father is, that differs from story to story. For most instances, he's just not in the picture, period and it's never talked about. In one story in particular she's a mixed-DNA clone of her and Time Turner/Doctor Whooves or a rando college unicorn that she met at a graduation party. I've yet to read a story where he's dead or they're divorced.
I will cry.
I truly enjoyed your commentary, Thank you!
*Your* parents sound so sweet for their support!
Love the background music :)

Dad doesnt care about my hobbies but he respects them
My mom buys me mlp calendars every year, and she just bought me a Bluey 3 in 1 wash. 😂 I love it.
I also have g5 bandages too I love them so much ❤️ 💗 💖 💕 💓
Funny enough my dad actually watched mlp and his favourite character was Fluttershy while my mum not so much she thinks it is childish
I’m Eastern European, of course my parents have no idea I watch MLP videos. Also, my brother would probably call me a hypocrite, because I’m pretty sure I didn’t allow him to watch MLP when we were younger (for obvious reasons)

I would love for Pinkie pie to be my mom- She is so sweet and fun and would honestly be so caring to her child no matter thw investment in fasion
oml, I haven’t seen the 2D designs of gen5 until now! Why do they look like that!? It’s uncanny! 😭
The Chrysalis tree origin thing comes from the Fiendship is Magic comic miniseries
I won't spoil it though
idk but twilight's mom is cute as hell
Happy Mother's Day y'all 🫶💐
my mother doesn’t know i still like mlp, i keep it to myself since she points out things i like as childish already i don’t even wanna hear what she will say if she finds out, which sucks cause i see a lot of mlp plushies on sale and want to get them but can’t cause she sees my mail xd awesome video found a new mlp youtube to watch!
Yeah, that definitely shocked me while I was editing!
When he said that his dad yelled 2 him bout the map dvd lol I can’t relate but with Breyer horses I currently have 3 moving boxes worth rn
Your mom's a sweetheart, your dads also being quite supportive compared to most so i think he's A okay too~☆🐴👍
i like your channel
